Overview

Our take on the Pioneer DEH-X4600BT

Add Bluetooth® to your ride

Pioneer's DEH-X4600BT CD receiver stretches the capabilities of your car's audio system with built-in Bluetooth. You can answer a phone call with the push of a button, then talk as if your caller is sitting next to you, freeing up your hands and letting you concentrate on the drive. The DEH-X4600BT supports Bluetooth audio streaming too, so you can stream music wirelessly from compatible devices to the receiver, plus control basic functions like "track up" or "track down."

Your music in your car

The front-panel USB input lets you hook up your iPod® or iPhone®, then access your playlists from the receiver's controls. You'll also enjoy control over your favorite Pandora® stations from the receiver when your iPhone is connected. You can use the USB input to tap into the music stored on many Android devices, while the front aux input handles just about any other audio source. If you're into your CD collection, you'll enjoy excellent playback of your store-bought and home-burned discs.

Find your perfect soundscape

Pioneer's MOSFET amplifier delivers plenty of power to your speakers, while the 5-band EQ lets you tweak the sound to match your taste. Two pairs of preamp outputs let you add external amplifiers or a powered sub.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Note: Bluetooth compatibility with this device may vary, depending on your phone and service provider.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

But a terrible owners manual!! The instructions for operation should be on page one not thirteen and fourteen in micro font print. The initial setup follows?? on page 16. They should have a letter size page for operation and adjustment added to all pioneer radio product. This is a HD radio display. not mentioned.

The price has just come down, for the cost you'd be stupid not to buy this. Easy install in my 2001 Jeep GC LTD, Crutchfield adapters and support second to none. If you want to use the steering wheel buttons you'll need an adapter (which costs as much as the radio) but it works

Pros: Bluetooth and iPhone iPad ipod a match made in heaven

Cons: Pioneer menus not intuitive and hard to navigate, wish I'd paid an extra $10 for the 4700 to get the variable-color illumination. Slightly annoying for instrument panel light color not to match the radio

This head unit is a huge upgrade over my factory radio. The bluetooth works great. I was concerned because the advertised RMS watts were lower than the competition. But it sounds great, and is no less powerful than any other brand name head unit in this price range. My only real complaint is that the display is too bright at night. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase.

Pros: inexpensive, bluetooth, good sound quality

Cons: overly bright display, even with dimmer turner down

Very good product at an attractive price. Installed in a 2004 F150. Fairly easy install. My wiring questions were answered by Crutchfield tech support. Did have to remove installed radio when I realized microphone plugs in back. Dial and controls are not intuitive but it is a quick learning curve. Phone sync was a tad frustrating until i click yes on both the phone and the unit. Overall it is all that i expected and maybe a bit more.

We bought the Pioneer DEH-X4600BT to replace the deceased factory stereo in our Chrysler PT Cruiser. The installation went without a hitch. The improvement in sound quality (even using the OEM speakers) was impressive. The bass is tight and the high end is clean even at high volume. You'll want to spend some time in the garage with the manual; the receiver is feature-rich, and you'll want to spend some time going through configuration options.

Pros: Excellent audio quality. Works well with iPhone 5s. FM receiver quality is excellent even in the crowded D/FW metro.

Cons: The manual could do a better job of explaining receiver features and options.

This radio was very easy to set up. For the Bluetooth pairing at least on my iPhone, all I needed to do was plug in the USB cord and it did the rest. This radio meet and exceeded my wants for an aftermarket radio. If you are thinking about getting a radio with Bluetooth, just stop and get this one. The phone calls are clear and the music streaming is outstanding.

Pros: Bluetooth for phone calls and music streaming Not to bright at night Very easy set up Best bang for your buck

Bought this for my daughter's first car and it works great and does all she wants. Hook up for her iPhone, excellent reception for the radio, removeable faceplate for security while she's in school, and looks great. Installation was a breeze as well. Paired with the Pioneer speakers we got her, it sounds incredible for a somewhat entry level stereo. Haven't tried the microphone for the hands free blue tooth, but hands free for a teenager is great no matter how it sounds.

I bought this product to go into an old 'classic car' a 1980 Chrysler New Yorker that we found that had been in storage for years. My wife fell in love with the way it drove, and desided that she would make it her part-time daily driver. It had a state of the art 1980 radio that didn't work. I chose this radio because it seemed to have the best bang for buck. She wanted a radio with CD and ipod included in it. She also wanted hands free bluetooth phone in the car. This unit filled the bill on all fronts. It has more features than she will ever use. The install wasnot to bad, I did have to call Crutchfield tech support a couple of times for direction since I couldn't find any help online with a couple of wiring questions. I must say that Crutchfield tech support was very helpful and had the answers to all my questions.

Pros: Has all the components in one small and neat package. I'll be back for another for my truck.

Cons: Some of the installation instrution in the Pioneer manual could have been better.

I bought this receiver for my 2000 Chevy Tahoe (new body, without Bose, with factory subwoofer) as I wanted to replace the factory receiver. Most importantly, I wanted something that wouldn't break the back, was highly rated, had bluetooth, and was easy to install considering I've never changed a receiver before. Install was very easy - had one issue with no sound coming through, but one call to customer service and I was able to fix it quickly and easily. With the kit provided by Crutchfield, the receiver looks great considering it's narrower than the factory receiver. Bluetooth was easy to set up and pairing to my phone was very simple. Sound is 100X better than factory and it also helps that I installed new speakers and sub. I forgot to mention that the mic is a nice added touch and was very easy to install. Instead of attaching it to the visor, I attached it on top of the steering wheel column and has worked out just fine - tested it and my voice goes through clear to the receiver. This receiver delivers more than I expected....very happy with the purchase and highly recommended. BTW, I highly recommend using the wire caps when splicing the wires of the harness together. They're available from Crutchfield.

Pros: Easy install, bluetooth, mic, great sound, detachable face

Cons: None thus far after about a month of use

I was shopping for the same stereo model in the local shops and the estimate was around $350 for fixing it along with steering wheel integration. But all I spent in Crutchfield was just a bit over $200 in total and 2 hours of my time fixing the stereo. I was a little skeptical about whether I can fix it by myself. But I took the risk and ordered it. Worst comes, I would take this to a local sound shop and get it fixed from them. Still saving a lot of money. But boy I was surprised with the customer support. I was totally clueless when I opened the box and was blinking what to do. I called the customer support center and those guys walked me through each step very patiently when I was asking the same questions again and again. Kudos to tech support. 2 weeks now, I am happy with the stereo. But I can give only 4 star, because when I was talking to some representative before buying the product, I asked if the BT mic was built into the stereo and they guy said yes. Later found out that I had to fix it outside the system and it is hanging on my dashboard rather ugly.

Pros: Slick product and fittings. Easy to do it yourself. Great technical support.

    Cons: None so far.

This is the second DEH-X4600-BT I have installed in our cars. The unit sounds fantastic with factory speakers. It has all the functions I wanted for an inexpensive replacement for the stock stereo. The Bluetooth works great. Always recognizes my iPhone5. I don't have to take my phone out of my pocket to listen to music. Very happy and would recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive stereo.

Pros: Plenty of basic functions. Bluetooth works well. Sounds great with my factory speakers.

I have had this unit install for about 1 week and so far I am very impressed. I wanted a inexpensive (< $200) aftermarket radio that could replace my stock radio in a 2008 Lancer ES. I chose this unit because I was looking for a unit that had BT capabilities for calling and at least an AUX input for music streaming. To my surprise, I was able to find a unit within my price range that has BT capabilities for most music apps that I use (Pandora, Amazon Prime, Google Music Player). I have a Nexus 5 and I couldn't be happier with the 4600BT built in features for BT music streaming. I place my phone in the car charger and never have to touch my phone again. Phone Calling: Missed, Incoming and Recent calls are all available through scrolling on the unit. Press and hold the phone button and you can use Google's voice command to make a phone call through the pioneer microphone that comes with this unit. (mine is placed on the driver side sun visor and everyone says they can hear me fairly well.) Music Apps: I have used Amazon Prime, which is a little slow to initalize but once that happens no issues with moving tracking forwards or backwards, pause and play through the 4600BT, Same with the standard music player on the phone and Pandora. You can also thumbs up or down using the folder buttons on the unit. Sound: Plenty of power over my stock unit, 2 custom EQs, Bass Boost, and two different general volume adjustments for compensating for road noise or different sources

Pros: Bluetooth capability for music applications and calling Comes with a microphone and plenty of cable to put it anywhere Able to be integrated with steering wheel controls Price Sound quality vs stock radio decent interface for most features, some I still need to reference the manual to understand I also use Torque App to get data from my BT OBD2 module and I can connect to that and my radio at the same time via BT

Cons: Only con so far is that the display is a bit dim even with the dimmer option 'OFF'. It is somewhat difficult to see on the drive home ~5pm on a sunny day.

This is an excellent unit for the price. Went in easy with Crutchfield's supplied harness. Sound quality is good. Love the Bluetooth and USB access which is why I put this unit in. The factory unit in my car was very good but in an 05 vehicle was lacking the ability to even play an MP3 file. This unit gives me comparable quality to the factory unit ( separate amp in the car ca not be overridden easily), so it still uses the same amp. I now have an up to date unit as far as features goes, for a little over a hundred bucks. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

    Pros: cost features value

Cons: Blue tooth mic.could be better.

I had high expectations from this radio after all the positive feedback I have read, The main reason for my purchase was the blue tooth feature. I loved the idea of hands free calling with the push of a button, but the sound quality is diminished from that of listening to the radio, and sometimes cutting out. The same low quality sound is heard when listening to xbox music through my phone and blue tooth. The radio and cd player is great, but the player does take a little getting used to navigating through the features. I would probably go back to alpine or jvc players again if I did it over.

Pros: looks good out of the box - cool features - radio and cd player works great

Cons: blue tooth sound not as good as radio sound- digital display is impossible to read on sunny day, even at its brightest level.

Pros: -You don't need to purchase the tools to get the old stereo out because they are included in the box. They are located in the small plastic bag with the screws. - The bluetooth audio works great with my iphone. I am able to listen to music on my phone and read what is playing. I can change the song using the arrow keys on the stereo or the handy remote. -There is a phone button that you can push to be able to select people in your contacts you wish to call.

Cons: - It may be my old speakers in my car, but I am unable to have a great connection to hear what people are saying when I am using the bluetooth on a phone call. Like I said this may be my old car speakers.

Overall, this is an excellent buy. The fact that it comes will all of the installation gear free (although more of a comment on how great Crutchfield is) makes this well worth the money. The sound quality is noticeably improved on my stock speakers, especially when playing directly from a cd or ipod/iphone. The controls are fairly intuitive, and it takes no time at all to set up once you have it installed. The sound quality of the included microphone is quite good, if you have it installed in the right place. Bluetooth connectivity is easy to use and has not given me any trouble yet. The removable face-plate is convenient and fairly stylish. I am extremely pleased with this product.

Pros: Despite what some people say, the brightness is not an issue, it's just fine for me. Intuitive Controls All of the features work as advertised, and are easy to use. Decent quality microphone Great value for your money

Cons: Display suffers from some serious glare in the sun - only affects digital readout, all buttons still easily recognizable.

I ordered this unit to replace an older pioneer in my truck. The unit shipped and I received it in three days as guaranteed in the website. The install was easy because of existing hardware. I unplugged the old unit and wired in the new one. The sound is great, but it's too much for factory speakers. The EQ settings are bit different in that adjustments are made by frequency rather than treble, mid, and bass. The Bluetooth feature works very well. Overall I'm very pleased with the unit. Also, it was a scratch and dent item. Didn't notice any defect and works great.

Don't consider it user friendly, maybe I should have looked harder. I just wanted a good CD player/ receiver. Didn't need all the Blue tooth and I Pod features. Gonna check to see if Crutchfield can repair the Rockford Equipment I took out. Their Tech. support is awesome, had answers for all my questions.

This was a graduation gift for my daughter. She wanted to upgrade her radio in her 2004 Jeep Liberty. It has all the bells and whistles she desired in a new radio, Bluetooth connection to Ipod and Iphone as well as a CD player and hands free telephone use. Installation was very easy with the supplied instructions and all of things needed to make it compatible with her Jeep. She is very pleased.

Pros: Nice unit that looks and sounds great.

Cons: I agree with another owner that the factory manual needs some improvement.

This is a terrific unit and a great replacement for the aging factory unit in my daughter's '97 Civic - especially for the price! Installation went very well - the Crutchfield instructions and wiring harness were great as always. The included face plate / surround looks even better than I thought it would. Lots of ability to customize sound to your liking with EQ settings, loudness & bass boost. Paring with an iphone was a snap and hands-free calling works and sounds great. Definitely recommend this unit. PS - pay special attention to Crutchfield's instructions regarding the dome light wiring and the splice you need to make - a terrific help!

Pros: A terrific replacement for an aging factory unit. Makes the driving / entertainment / cell phone experience so much better.

Cons: The factory manual is a bit cumbersome - not written in a clear, easy to follow manner.

Really like this radio. Wish I would have swapped out the factory radio years ago.

Pros: Love the remote. Bluetooth works great with my iPhone.

Cons: The main dial is also a button. Sometimes when you reach to turn the volume down, you can accidentally push it in and then it will jump into the menus/functions.

    Great Value
