Plays loud and clear

Many people never think to upgrade their car's audio system, suffering with subpar sound when they listen to music. Pioneer's GM-A5602 2-channel amplifier will greatly improve the sound quality in your vehicle, so you'll look forward to spending time on the road. This brawny Pioneer amp will power a pair of high performance speakers with 150 watts RMS each, which is a huge jump over the power supplied by your car radio or an aftermarket receiver. You'll hear more of the little details in your music, even when you turn your system up to compete with the road noise.

Practical features

You can put this versatile amp into 1-channel mode, engage and tune a low-pass filter for clarity, and send up to 450 watts RMS to a subwoofer or two, for some rockin' bass. A bass boost adds extra kick, if you want it. Speaker-level inputs allow you to add the GM-A5602 to a factory radio. This amp's performance features and reasonable price make it a great choice for almost any vehicle needing a sonic upgrade.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-channel car amplifier
  • 150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (225 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms)
  • 450 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
  • CEA-2006 compliant
  • variable low-pass filter (40-500 Hz, 12 dB per octave)
  • bass boost (0, 6, 12 dB at 50 Hz)
  • MOSFET power supply
  • preamp and speaker-level inputs
  • fuse rating: 30A x 2
  • 4-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
  • 13-7/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 8-1/2"D
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4Ω load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N), and over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4Ω. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare amplifiers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Pioneer GM-A5602 is rated at 150 watts RMS x 2 channels, with a 75 dBA signal to noise ratio.

Specifications: The manual also lists these non CEA-2006 compliant specifications:

  • Power:
    • 2Ω: 225 watts x 2 channels (14.4 volts, 1 kHz, no more than 1% THD+N)
    • Bridged: 450 watts x 1 channel (into 4Ω, 14.4 volts, 1 kHz, no more than 1% THD+N)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 96 dB (at rated power)

Gain Control: To accommodate the varying range of signal levels coming from today's factory and aftermarket radios, the input gain is adjustable (300mV-6.5V line level, 3V-26V speaker level).

Gain Control Caution: If the gain control level is set too high, Pioneer's Gain Control Caution feature will automatically reduce the amplifier's output until the headunit volume is decreased to acceptable levels. This added layer of protection helps prevent damage to the amplifier and the connected speakers due to improper gain control adjustments.

LPF: A two position switch turns the low pass filter (LPF) on/off. The crossover point is continuously variable from 40-500 Hz and the slope is 12dB/octave.

Bass Boost: A three position switch sets the bass boost; 0 dB, +6 dB, or +12 dB.

Power Connections: The power and ground connections are 0.54" wide screw terminals, the remote turn-on screw terminal is 0.325" wide. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not included) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Spade connectors are recommended for the power, ground, and remote wires.

Speaker Connections: The speaker screw terminals are 0.325" wide. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not included) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Spade connectors are recommended for the speaker wires.

RCA Input: The amplifier features one pair of stereo RCA line level inputs (left/right).

Speaker Input: The included speaker level input harness allows you to connect your OEM radio (or aftermarket radio that does not have the typical RCA-type outputs) without having to buy an adapter.

Auto Power On: When using the speaker level input, a circuit senses the input signal and turns the amp on automatically. This feature makes it easier to add an amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs.

Fuse: The amp is protected by two 30-amp ATO blade fuses.

Ok amp. Needs better design

Written By David C, Shokan New York on Monday, January 20, 2014

It's a good amp that pumps out really well..... If the sub your trying to power aren't much higher wattage than the amp. I'm running a pioneer 12" 1300 watt max sub and I have it bridged with a kenwood amp from a capacitor. Needless to say I push my system hard and it lasted a week. My kenwood has an internal cooling fan this amp doesn't not. I bought a infrared gun to test temp and the outside was 125 degreese. The kenwood was nowhere near that. So if your just looking for a little extra bass then this is for you. If your looking for something to hold up to constant hard bass. Find something with a cooling fan I'm looking at the kenwood KAC-7204 now

Pros: Small. Powerful. Easy to install

Cons: No cooling fan. Runs to hot when pushed and goes into protection mode

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great amplifier for the price. Really hits hard.

Pros: Great sound for a great price

Cons: None

Giant SPL but pretty pennies!!!

Written By lovesNaysayer, Northern Virginia on Friday, November 22, 2013

I decided to resurrect my Blaupunkt overdrive ODW1200 which I bought early 2000's which 1k watts just fine. Always loved it till the amp died some time ago but anyways. The sub runs max 1100W peak / 400x2 @ 4 ohms which would just be a rock crusher. But, like everyone being poor wad looking for less then dirt cheap found this amp from Pioneer which I knew of the product line being great felt like giving it a try. That was 4 days ago my wife well tell you I have with any chance been either sitting out driving it sedan since. The range of power in my sub just non stop leaves me with a grin non stop. @ 4 ohms 225 rms watts it at just half power runs clean and cool it can rattle the taste out of your fillings which once you hit play fell right to the floor and looked like pop corn popping. But, with just a scroll on your media device leaves you feeling soft soothe tones and SPL that makes your econo awesome car not feel like a p.o.s. but a classy box seat watching London orchestral playing just for you as you sit in grid lock. Sorry the human ear is built the such like vision it's all about the 20 to 20. If that's the best my ears can do eh why pay top shelf price to Mb who ever and pay out the nose in this economy for things only my dog can hear.. The long and short of it if you come by the money for this cheap amp. You will be sure to have a grin by the turn of a car key and no hearing vibe the next Friday. The amp for the price is a no brainer.

Pros: Price, SPL output and range, stable hot cold were ever, ease of install, being able to go from 8 down to 2 ohms and still run down the middle and wonder are few windows gonna pop off wheels fall off of this poor cat that's taking a serious SPL pounding.

Cons: I Don't have another system to warrant getting another

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy  Jul 06, 2014 ]  Staff
If you mean put the speakers in parallel (bridged?) that might blow your amp if you crank it as it's looking at a 2 Ohm load. If you have the option with this amp to bridge to mono you'll want to put the speakers connected in series so the amp will be seeing an 8 Ohm load. Not sure if this will make it louder but that's the way I would approach it. Good luck, Ron [ Ron  Jun 29, 2014 ]

Yes, I installed a 50 amp fuse and it works great. [ Hart  May 04, 2014 ]
Would this amp work on my kicker 10" sub with 150 rms ? [ pablo jr  May 24, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You will be overpowering the sub, but not drastically so. If you don't play your stuff full volume a lot you would probably be OK. To be on the safe side though and so you could run the sub as hard as you want I would recommend also checking out the Rockford Fosgate Punch P3002 or the Alpine MRV-M500. Those are both great amps that will give you 300 watts RMS power at a 4 ohm resistance. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Apr 30, 2014 ]  Staff

You could use this amplifier, but you would need to adjust the gain down significantly. This is because your speakers can only handle 80 Watts RMS, and this amp will be delivering up to 150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms. For information on selecting the best amp for your system I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Jeff  Dec 29, 2013 ]  Staff
This amp will not be a good match for that subwoofer. The subwoofer will prevent a 2-ohm load to the amplifier, and the amplifier is designed to handle that in bridged mode. I would recommend taking a look at mono subwoofer amplifiers. They are designed to work with specifically with subwoofers, and can handle the lower ohm rating. For help on selecting the best amp for the system feel free to reach out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. They will be happy to help find a amp that will fit the system and your budget.
