Product Research

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured into a 4Ω load, with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N), and over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4Ω. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare amplifiers on an equal basis. Using CEA-2006 criteria, the Pioneer GM-A5602 is rated at 150 watts RMS x 2 channels, with a 75 dBA signal to noise ratio.

Specifications: The manual also lists these non CEA-2006 compliant specifications:

  • Power:
    • 2Ω: 225 watts x 2 channels (14.4 volts, 1 kHz, no more than 1% THD+N)
    • Bridged: 450 watts x 1 channel (into 4Ω, 14.4 volts, 1 kHz, no more than 1% THD+N)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 96 dB (at rated power)

Gain Control: To accommodate the varying range of signal levels coming from today's factory and aftermarket radios, the input gain is adjustable (300mV-6.5V line level, 3V-26V speaker level).

Gain Control Caution: If the gain control level is set too high, Pioneer's Gain Control Caution feature will automatically reduce the amplifier's output until the headunit volume is decreased to acceptable levels. This added layer of protection helps prevent damage to the amplifier and the connected speakers due to improper gain control adjustments.

LPF: A two position switch turns the low pass filter (LPF) on/off. The crossover point is continuously variable from 40-500 Hz and the slope is 12dB/octave.

Bass Boost: A three position switch sets the bass boost; 0 dB, +6 dB, or +12 dB.

Power Connections: The power and ground connections are 0.54" wide screw terminals, the remote turn-on screw terminal is 0.325" wide. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not included) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Spade connectors are recommended for the power, ground, and remote wires.

Speaker Connections: The speaker screw terminals are 0.325" wide. A Phillips-head or flat blade screw driver (not included) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. Spade connectors are recommended for the speaker wires.

RCA Input: The amplifier features one pair of stereo RCA line level inputs (left/right).

Speaker Input: The included speaker level input harness allows you to connect your OEM radio (or aftermarket radio that does not have the typical RCA-type outputs) without having to buy an adapter.

Auto Power On: When using the speaker level input, a circuit senses the input signal and turns the amp on automatically. This feature makes it easier to add an amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs.

Fuse: The amp is protected by two 30-amp ATO blade fuses.

Q
Will this work with the alpine sws10d4 sub? Will the amp be strained?
joseph  Mar 31, 2016

This Pioneer amp wouldn't be a good option for the Alpine SWS 10" dual 4-ohm model; the amp is only stable down to 4-ohm in bridged mode and there's no way to wire a dual 4-ohm sub to a bridged (mono) 4-ohm amp. This would match up a lot better with the Alpine SWS 10" dual 2-ohm model though since you can wire the dual 2-ohm coils together in series to show the amp a 4-ohm impedance load. I hope that helps. Sorry bud! Never own dual coils on my subs!! That's going to be a question for a installer with a few years under there belt.
kevin  Dec 11, 2015
A
You need 2 single 4 ohm subs' . Wire positive to positive', negative to negative to make sub's 2 ohm. Then out to amp. Pigtail 1 sub out to amp. Double voice coils impossible to get 2 ohm which is best power wise

Q
Can I bridge PIONEER GM-A5602 amplifier to two 12" TS-W304R 4 ohm speakers ? If so - how? Please help! Trying to increase the power. Thanks!!
benjamin  Jun 28, 2014
1 answer
A
If you mean put the speakers in parallel (bridged?) that might blow your amp if you crank it as it's looking at a 2 Ohm load. If you have the option with this amp to bridge to mono you'll want to put the speakers connected in series so the amp will be seeing an 8 Ohm load. Not sure if this will make it louder but that's the way I would approach it. Good luck, Ron

Will this amp be good to run with a 300 watt rms sub at 4 ohms or wil the 450 watt rms that this amp puts out be to much for the sub to handle? Or how should i wire it to be stable for the sub?

Would this amp work on my kicker 10" sub with 150 rms ?
pablo jr  May 24, 2014

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You will be overpowering the sub, but not drastically so. If you don't play your stuff full volume a lot you would probably be OK. To be on the safe side though and so you could run the sub as hard as you want I would recommend also checking out the Rockford Fosgate Punch P3002 or the Alpine MRV-M500. Those are both great amps that will give you 300 watts RMS power at a 4 ohm resistance. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Can i use this amp to power my 2 way system Hertz DSK 165.3? I'm currently using an Hertz HE2 amp. Hertz DSK 165.3 Specs: -2 way channel -160 W peak, 80 W continuous - 4Ohm -Sensitivity: 93 Db SPL Hertz HE2 specs: - 70Wx2 RMS(4ohm)

A
You could use this amplifier, but you would need to adjust the gain down significantly. This is because your speakers can only handle 80 Watts RMS, and this amp will be delivering up to 150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms. For information on selecting the best amp for your system I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

Q
Not much of an Audiophile but want to make sure I get my son the best set up and could use some help from the more advanced car audiophiles. I should probably say, more advanced than me, which probably means anyone reading this. I purchased the Polk Audio DXi112 (with ported sub enclosure) and want him to get the most out of the sub. My confusion and ignorance comes into play when trying to figure out Ohms! I'm looking at the Pioneer GM-A5602 and the spec sheet states: 2-channel car amplifier 150 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (225 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms) 450 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode) (also looking at the JL Audio JX360/2) The Sub spec sheet states: USE WITH 2 OHM COMPATIBLE AMPLIFIERS. NOT ALL AMPLIFIERS ARE STABLE INTO A 2 OHM LOAD (ESPECIALLY IN BRIDGED MODE). My questions are - if he bridges to pull 450 watts it looks like the amp operates at 4 Ohms. Is that correct? Will he only be able to use 225 watts in order to achieve 2 Ohms?
greg  Dec 17, 2013
1 answer
A
This amp will not be a good match for that subwoofer. The subwoofer will prevent a 2-ohm load to the amplifier, and the amplifier is designed to handle that in bridged mode. I would recommend taking a look at mono subwoofer amplifiers. They are designed to work with specifically with subwoofers, and can handle the lower ohm rating. For help on selecting the best amp for the system feel free to reach out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. They will be happy to help find a amp that will fit the system and your budget.
