Versatile amp

You can also create a strong front soundstage with bass by putting your GM- DX975 into 3-channel mode, sending 200 watts RMS each to a set of high-performance components up front, for example, plus 600 watts to a sub.

Connecting and tuning made simple

Speaker-level inputs allow you to install this amp in a factory system with no RCA connections — the amplifier switches its input mode automatically when it detects the high-level signal, eliminating the need to run a turn-on lead to your receiver or fuse box. Built-in high- and low-pass filters let you adjust the sound for your vehicle's interior, and a wired remote boost that lets you control the amount of bass boost from the front seat.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 75 watts RMS x 4 + 350 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 75 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications: (not using the CEA 2006 criteria)

  • Power Output:
    • 100 watts RMS x 4 + 600 watts RMS x 1 into 2Ω (at 14.4 volts)
    • 200 watts RMS x 2 (bridged) + 350 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω (at 14.4 volts)
    • 150 watts (max) x 4 + 700 watts (max) x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 94 dB (at rated power output)
  • Distortion: 0.05% (measured at 10 watts, 1 kHz)

Class-FD Amp: A Class-D amplifier offers higher power in a smaller chassis than conventional Class-AB amp designs. Pioneer's exclusive Class-FD design not only delivers full-range Class-D amplification, but is more efficient than other designs. The result is clear full-range sound in a small amplifier. The compact design provides many installation options.

Channel Layout: The GM-DX975 is a 5-channel amplifier; the channels are labeled A (left and right), B (left and right), and SW (subwoofer). The A and B channels are bridgeable, so it can be wired as 5-channel, 4-channel, or 3-channel.

Auto Turn-on: When using a speaker level input, a signal sensing circuit will automatically turn the amp on and off along with the source unit. This eliminates the need for running a system remote control wire (turn-on lead).

Controls

Input Select Switches: The amplifier has two input select switches that allow you to choose the preferred input mode. For the A and B channels, the 4-channel mode requires two pair of RCA inputs be connected to the amplifier's A and B inputs, while the 2-channel mode only requires one pair connected to the A inputs. If you have a separate RCA signal for the subwoofer channel, the SW Input Select should be in the SW position. If you do not have a separate subwoofer input, the switch should be in the A/B position (the subwoofer channel will receive a signal from the A/B input).

Gain Control: There are independent gain controls for the A, B, and SW (subwoofer) amplifier sections, each is continuously variable from 200 mV to 6.5 V. When you use a speaker level input, the gain control range is from 800 mV to 16 V.

Crossovers: The A, B, and SW sections also have independent crossover controls. The A and B channel crossovers can be set to Low Pass, High Pass, or Off (Full Range). The rotary frequency controls are continuously variable from 40 Hz to 500 Hz. The subwoofer channel low-pass crossover is always engaged (can't be bypassed) and is also continuously variable from 40 Hz to 500 Hz. The crossover slope is 12 dB/octave for the A and B channels, and is selectable for the subwoofer channel, between 12 dB/octave and 24 dB/octave via a 2-way switch.

Remote Bass Boost Control: The included Remote Bass Boost control module lets you adjust the amount of bass boost (output by the subwoofer channel) from the front of the vehicle. The Bass Boost circuit is centered at 50 Hz, with a variable boost level of 0 dB to 18 dB. Module dimensions:

  • Width: 1¾" (2⅝ including the mounting tabs)
  • Height: ¾"
  • Depth: 1⅝" (2⅛" including knob and wiring)
Connections

Power: The power and ground connections are set screw terminals that will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten/loosen the terminals. Pioneer recommends different power and ground wire gauges based on the length of the wire:

  • 8-Gauge: up to 7' 3"
  • 6-Gauge: up to 11' 10"
  • 4-Gauge: up to 21'
Note: The amplifier has three 30-amp fuses installed and Pioneer recommends a 100-amp fuse in-line within 12" of the battery.

Remote Turn-on: The remote connection is a set screw terminal that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The included 3mm Allen wrench is used to tighten/loosen the terminals.

Speaker Connections: The A and B channel output terminals will accept up to 12-gauge speaker wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened using the included 1.5mm Allen wrench. The subwoofer output will accept up to 8-gauge wire. Its set screws are tightened/loosened using the included 3mm Allen wrench.

Signal Input: The amplifier features three pair of stereo RCA inputs for Channels A, B, and SW. If no preamp level signal is available, use the included speaker level input harness, and splice the speaker wires from the source unit to the harness.

Q
I'm installing in an 2019 Civic SI that already has individual speaker outputs for 4 x tweeters, 1 x 3.5, 4 x 6.5s, and a sub. I want to leave the tweeters and 3.5 on the factory amp. How would I get the sub signal to the amp if the input wiring only has the 4 channel block?
matt  Mar 13, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Matt. Thank you for your question. If this is to be used with a factory radio, all it needs is 4 channel input via speaker wire there is an input switch to carry over the 4 channel in to send the signal over to channel 5 for your subwoofer.
hogan  Mar 13, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Should I use a line output converter with this amplifier? I'm pretty set on getting this amp. I have focal door speakers, front 6x9s 150 watt RMS and back 6x6.5s 125 watt RMS paired with 2 Rockford Fosgate P3 shallow 10s that give 600 RMS total.

The Pioneer GM-DX975 5-channel amp is a true performer Brenden, I have one in my daily-driver! The Pioneer amp comes with a speaker-level input harness for direct connection to factory radio's. For the best possible sound quality from a factory radio, a line output converter/processor is required. The Audio Control LC7i PRO below would be an excellent choice to get the best out of your system! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC7IPRO/AudioControl-LC7iPRO.html

Q
When using a factory head unit with no RCAs, can I use the SP INPUT and set it to 4 channel and that provides audio for a subwoofer, without the need for an LOC or anything else?
stony  Oct 29, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Stony. Thank you for your question. Yes, the speaker level input just needs the 4 main channel outputs from a factory radio and it will create a sub channel output.

Q
How to wire the subwoofer channel to pioneer DMH-341EX which has one preout subwoofer rca ?
ryad  Mar 16, 2023
1 answer
A
I would be happy to help, Ryad. You can use the Hosa Y-adapter in the link below. This will split the RCA mono output so you can run a traditional 2-channel RCA cable to your subwoofer amp! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_979YRA104/Hosa-RCA-Y-Adapter.html

You have plenty of wattage to work with, Steve. The Pioneer GM-DX975 puts out 600-watts RMS to a 2-ohm load, and for quality a single sub setup would be a great call here. The JL 12W3v3-2 would be a great choice is a small, sealed box for superb sound quality. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13612W3V32/JL-Audio-12W3v3-2.html

Q
How does compare to GM-D9705? What are the differences?
oscar  Nov 10, 2022
1 answer
A
So visually and feature wise these amps are strikingly similar, and that's intended Oscar. The GM-D9705 is the newer version of the GM-D9605, essentially the older amplifier's internals with the new outside case appearance. The performance is great for the price, but it is not internally similar to the GM-DX975. The GM-DX975 Limited Edition in the link below does have the newest Class-FD design (exclusive to Pioneer) that not only delivers full-range Class-D amplification but is more efficient than other designs. You have to pay close attention nowadays, and the additional price cut on the GM-D9705 is due to the fact that it is slightly older technology internally. It's still a banger though! The GM-DX975 below is one of my favorite amps, personally. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-tnhFdqEwWAa/p_130GMDX975/Pioneer-GM-DX975.html

Q
I have never dealt with gains that are not either low or high. The gain on this seems to be backwards where turning to the right side is (low) and turning to the left side is (high). So if my preout is 2.0v then I would need to set at normal? Am I looking at this correctly?

Q
Can I run this without using the sub channel until I add a sub? Can I run the sub and 4 other channels at different impedance, 4 main channels at 4ohm and sub at 2ohm?

Yes and yes. The sub-channel is independent of the others. It doesn't care.
monte  Dec 20, 2019

Yes just run the 6 rcas to it and dont hook up the speaker wires for the sub until you are ready. I am running 2 10's at a 2 ohm load with 4 speakers inside the car at 4 ohms. 8 months and no issues
brian  Dec 08, 2019
Q
What would be the difference in the sound if i choose to use 1 pair of rca cables running from head unit going to the amp instead off running rca cables for all channels seperately?
delroy  Nov 02, 2019

A
You will lose the ability to fade, mainly. Ideally you would want to to feed the amplifier as many signal as possible to better tune the sound.

Q
I want to power my four 6.75 kickers rated @ 100w rms at 4ohms and a pioneer free air 8" sub rated @150w rms at 4ohms. Will my sound quality suffer or will the speakers overpower the sub if I simply turn the gain down on the sub channel so as not to blow it?
patrick  Aug 03, 2019
2 answers
A
This amp would an excellent option for your planned build Patrick. Granted, the output to your 8" free-air sub is high and generally speaking, one needs to pay attention to overpowering subs that are in larger air spaces because excursion limits can be reached easily. But you will hear that and I would suggest that you set your gains optimally, rather than deliberately try to limit by running the amp gain down. Reason I say that is because there are signal advantages to having gains set optimally. I have this amp bridged into a component set of Morel's and twin 10" Polk MM1 subs in my escape and I can tell you that it sounds great and runs cool.
robert  Aug 05, 2019
A
Well I power 4 6.5 JL audio an 1 JL audio 10. For as the pioneer 8 only 150 watts not sure if it to much power. You mite need to call them on that one. But hands down best amp I have ever owned.
ted  Aug 04, 2019
Q
Can this amp be bridged to 2 channels at 4 ohm, and then run the sub channel at 2 ohms, or if I bridge it to 2 channels, do I have to run the sub channel also at 4 ohms?

Yes, The sub is a Separate Chanel.

You sure can bridge the 4 channels down to 2 channels and run each bridged channel at 4 ohms while running the 5th channel, the sub channel, at 2 ohms My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

I think it's set wherever your gain is on the amp. I didn't use it at first, but since I installed it, I love the remote. I can adjust the bass simply with the knob.

cant give you direct answers but I would run the remote, even if its right next to your amp and set it on mid.

This thing really surprised me I have it powering two 6x9 Alpine type S front door speaker's and two 5.5 inch Alpine type S rear door speaker's and 1 Rockford Fosgate punch 2, 10 inch sub and it has way more than enough power for what I have . I'll admit I was a little hesitant on this unit didn't think it would quite do the job I'm really impressed I'm thinking of actually adding another 10.
