Our take on the Pioneer CD-IU201V

by Ken Nail
Pioneer

Why would I need an iPod® adapter?

An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music.

The CD-IU201V interface cable lets you connect your iPod or iPhone® to Pioneer's AVH-P4400BH and other select DVD receivers, so you can access your iPod's audio and video content with the system's touchscreen controls. You'll see information like song and album titles, artist names, and track length — all conveniently displayed on the receiver's screen. Just connect the cable to your iPod, plug it into the receiver, and enjoy. The cable's design ensures maximum charging speed for your devices when used with 1-amp USB ports. Warranty: 1 year.

Compatibility Note: Be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this iPod adapter.

Features

Overview: The Pioneer CD-IU201V iPod adapter permits direct control, audio/video playback, and charging of your iPod through select Pioneer multimedia head units. A compatible Pioneer multimedia head unit can be connected with an iPod via this dedicated adapter by attaching the cable's USB type-A and 3.5mm minijack connector to the head unit's rear panel USB and minijack ports and plugging the cable's dock connector into your iPod's dock connection. Using the touch panel or soft keys of your compatible Pioneer multimedia head unit, you can play iPod-recorded songs with the following convenient functions.

  • Text Information Display: Song/album titles, artist names, and track length are conveniently displayed on the monitor display. This capability also permits multiple "search" functions, making it a snap to find a song to play back.
  • Multiple Search Functions: Just like looking for files stored on a PC, iPod-recorded songs may be sorted according to registered playlists, genres, artists, or albums to ensure easy access to each music file.

Good cable, but...

The cable itself looks well made and it comes with an auxiliary extension but not a usb extension. Why not? You know that it's going to be too short.

Not Right

Written By BrianM, Louisville, KY on Friday, December 20, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this cable to work with Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS. This cable did not work with my IPhone 4S. It would work with an IPod but not my IPhone. Did not find out cable would not work until after a paid installation. Caused extreme amount of money, time and frustration.
Pros:
Nothing. Did not work
Cons:
Everything. Did not work

ipod video cable

Written By Rayland, Alexandria, LA on Tuesday, July 09, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

cable enables Ipod to play video on Pioneer video capable head units. Works as intended without difficulty. Remember however that video quality is limited to resolution of source material and video formats for Ipods may pixelate on larger display.
Pros:
allows video as above
Cons:
Ipod connector is too large to fit units when in rigid/plastic cases, will work with neoprene type cases.

Pioneer CD-IU201V

Written By Dan, Portland, CT on Sunday, May 05, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It works very well. Just plugs in to the back of the receiver. I use it with a iPod Classic 120Gb. The iPod charges while connected. The cord was long enough to reach into the glove compartment of my 2004 F150 with room to spare. Data such as song information, album cover, etc is being displayed on the Pioneer receiver I purchased along with the cable.
Pros:
Ease of installation. No problems with iPod operation or data transfer.
Cons:
No lightning adapter

Yes, it is expensive from Pioneer but thank you Crutchfield for offering an "Open Box" for $10 less. I selected this option and I am glad I did, saved some money and it works like a charm. Yes perhaps it could have been half as much, but all in all I am happy.
Pros:
Works like it should
Cons:
High cost, even with open box option

Too Expensive Pioneer

Written By JeffP, Poquoson, VA on Monday, February 04, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This cable works fine. But, it's an iphone cable. It's not magical. There is no reason this should cost this much. It's actually worse than HDMI cables and even Apple's own overpriced cables. This is no fault of Crutchfield.
Pros:
Works
Cons:
Way Overpriced Pioneer (and probably Apple)

Reviews for the Pioneer CD-IU201V

Written By UweK, West Michigan,MI on Tuesday, January 15, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this cable because I wanted more features other than music from my ipod touch 3rd. Gen. After drying 2 cheaper cables that did not work I ended up with this one. I still don't know what this cable can do because I never got video or any apps do show up on my main unit or seen any reviews do confirm what it can do or supposed to do.
Pros:
Don't know yet
Cons:
Short, pricey

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Unfortunately, I had to purchase this product because I could no longer control my iPhone with the receiver remote when streaming music due to the new apple software update. This product restores that functionality, after connecting the phone to it.
Cons:
No instructions on how to hook it up to the receiver.

Poor execution of a much needed cable.

Written By James, Houston, OH on Monday, June 25, 2012

When used with an iPhone 4, connector is too big to fit through 4 different cases I tried. Luckily I have a case which is split just above the home button and I can remove the bottom portion when using the iPhone 4 with a dock. This allows the connector of this cable to make a good connection.
Pros:
Works with audio AND video.
Cons:
Why the big bulky connector, Pioneer?!? Cable is split into two cables at connector. Couldn't all of these wires fit into one?!?
