    Features

Overview: The Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS is an AM/FM/CD receiver that can also play MP3, WMA, WAV, and AAC files on disc as well. The headunit features a 24-bit Burr-Brown DAC and DSP processing for the purest sound quality. Additional accessories that are compatible with this unit include iPod adapter (sold separately), XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio (with an optional satellite radio tuner and antenna), and a multi-CD player.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the Premier DEH-P800PRS are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the Premier DEH-P800PRS are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels

MOSFET Amplifier: The Premier DEH-P800PRS is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

Supertuner IIID+ AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

24-Bit Burr Brown DAC: The headunit features a 24-bit Burr-Brown DAC for the purest sound quality when playing back your Audio CDs and compressed music files.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: This unit can play MP3/WMA/WAV files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name, plus comments. Up to 8 directories, 99 folders and 999 files per disc are recognized by this unit.

AAC Decoding: This unit will playback AAC files encoded by iTunes recorded onto CDs, however files purchased from the iTunes Music Store (.m4p file extension) are not compatible. Tracks recorded at transmission rates of 16-320 kbps are playable on this unit.

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-P800PR is equipped with a bottom-front panel 2.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player, DVD, or VCR. Once AUX 1 is selected as a source, you can change the source display of the input to any 10-character name. The unit's electronic front-panel must be slid down to access this input. A second auxiliary device can be connected to this unit when an optional adapter is connected to the IP-Bus connector on the rear panel. Both Aux 1 and Aux 2 must be turned on in the setup menu in order to be selected as a source. See below for more information on the 2nd Auxiliary Input.

2nd Auxiliary Input: You can connect an auxiliary component by connecting a Pioneer IP-Bus/RCA connector (sold separately). The CD-RB10 lets you connect one auxiliary component, and the CD-RB20 lets you connect an auxiliary component and a CD changer via the IP-Bus connector on the back of the head unit. The 10-character name of the connected auxiliary component can be entered into memory, and will appear as you cycle through the sources.

Three 5-Volt Preamp Output: The Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS features three 5-Volt preamp outputs (Front, Rear, and Sub). The Front and Rear preamp outputs feature fade control, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

Position Control: For a better sound-stage you can select your optimal listening position. You can choose from All, Front Left, Front Right or Front. You can also select to manually fine tune the sound stage by selecting the distance for each individual speaker in the vehicle compared to your listening position.

Auto TA (Time Alignment) and EQ (Equalization): The Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS comes with a wired set-up microphone for automatic time alignment and equalization to make setting up your vehicle's car stereo system simple. The supplied microphone plugs into the bottom 2.5mm port on the face-plate (which must be in the down position) and should be placed in the center of the driver's seat headrest facing forward (stop the car in a place that is as quiet as possible, close all doors, windows, and the sun roof, and turn the engine off). The auto-time alignment is automatically adjusted for the distance between each speaker and the listening position. The auto-equalizer automatically measures the car's interior acoustic characteristics, and then creates the auto-equalizer curve based on that information.

Audio Operation Modes: This unit features two operation modes: the 3-way network mode (NW), and the standard mode (STD).

    • 3-Way Network Mode (NW): This mode lets you create a 3-way multi-amp, multi-speaker system with separate speakers for reproduction of high, middle and low frequencies (bands), each driven by a dedicated power amp using the headunit's three 5-volt preamp outputs. The 3-way network mode provides network and time alignment functions; two functions essential for a multi-amp, multi-speaker system to enable precise control over settings for each frequency range. The 3-way network mode also enables low-pass, high-pass, level, and phase adjustments.
      • Time Alignment: The time alignment function lets you adjust the distance between each speaker and the listening position from 0 to 160-inches.
      • High-Pass Crossover Filter: The HPF cuts frequencies below the set frequency (1.25, 1.6, 2.0, 2.5, 3.15, 4.0, 5.0, 6.3, 8.0, 10.0, or 12.5 kHz), letting high frequencies through to the connected speakers.
      • Low-Pass Crossover Filter: The LPF cuts frequencies above the set frequency (25, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 250 Hz), letting low frequencies through to the connected subwoofers.
      • Mid-Pass Crossover Filter: This allows you to set a HPF frequency (1.25, 1.6, 2.0, 2.5, 3.15, 4.0, 5.0, 6.3, 8.0, 10.0, or 12.5 kHz) and LPF frequency (25, 31.5, 40, 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, 200, or 250 Hz) to allow only a specific range of frequencies to played through the connected speakers.
      • Slope: You can adjust the HPF/LPF/MPF slope for each speaker unit connected - LPF Slope (-36, -30, -24, -18, or -12 dB/oct), MPF (-24, -18, -12, -6, or 0 dB/oct), and HFP (-24, -18, -12, or -6 dB/oct).
      • Level: You can adjust the level of each speaker unit connected - High Frequencies (-24 to 0 dB), Mid Frequencies (-24 to 0 dB), and Low Frequencies (-24 to +6 dB).
      • Phase: You can switch Phase (Normal or Reverse) for each speaker unit's input signal.
      • Mute: You can mute each speaker unit (filter. When a speaker unit (filter) is muted, no sound is output from that speaker.
    • Standard Mode (STD): This mode lets you create a 4-speaker system with front and rear speakers using the headunits speaker outputs, or a 6-speaker system with front and rear speaker and subwoofers using the headunits preamp outputs.
      • Subwoofer Output: This unit is equipped with a dedicated subwoofer preamp output which can be turned on or off. You can adjust the Phase (Normal/Reverse), LPF (50/63/80/100/125/160/200Hz), Slope (-18/-12/-6dB), and Level (-24 to +6 dB) of the unit's subwoofer preamp output.
      • High Pass Filter: The headunit features an independent High Pass Crossover Filter for the Front and Rear speakers. You can set the High Pass Filter for the front and rear speakers from 50, 63, 80, 100, 125, 160, or 200 Hz. You can also adjust the slope of the HPF to -12, -6 or 0 dB/oct.
      • Speaker Level: You can independently adjust the output level of the front and rear speakers from -24 to 0 dB.
      • Mute: You can mute front and rear speaker units separately. When speakers units are muted, no sound is output from those speakers.

Equalizer: The Equalizer lets you adjust the equalization to match your car's interior acoustics characteristics as desired. There are 5 Preset EQ curves and 2 Custom EQ curves to choose from.

    • Preset EQ: You can select from the following Preset EQ settings - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Flat, or Super Bass.
    • Custom EQ 1 & 2: The headunit features an adjustable 16-band graphic equalizer (20Hz, 31.5hz, 50Hz, 80Hz, 125Hz, 200Hz, 315hz, 500Hz, 800Hz, 1.25kHz, 2kHz, 3.15kHz, 5kHz, 8kHz, 12.5kHz, and 20kHz. Each center frequency can be adjusted from -6 to +6 dB.

BBE Sound: With BBE, playback very close to the original sound can be obtained by correction with a combination of phase compensation and high-range boost for the delay of the high-frequency components and the amplitude deviation occurring during playback. This function makes it possible to reproduce the dynamic sound field as if you are listening to a live performance. You can adjust the BBE sound processing technology form -4 to +4.

BMX Compression: Using the BMX and Compression functions let you adjust the sound playback quality of this unit. Each of the functions has a two-step adjsutment. BMX controls sound reverberations to give playback a fuller sound. The Compression function balances the output of louder and softer sounds at higher volumes.

Loudness: Loudness compensates for deficiencies in the low and high frequencies at low volumes.

Digital Attenuator: When listening to a CD or other source on which the recording level is high, setting the equalizer curve level to high may result in distortion. You can switch the digital attenuator to low to reduce this distortion.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

Auto-Flap Motorized Detachpable Face: The Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS features an Auto-Flap Motorized Face. Simply push the OPEN button and the motorized face plate slides down to expose the CD slot, and back again when the CD's loaded. Another advantage with this design is that slide-down face protects the CD slot from dust. The electronic face-plate is also detachable. Just push the OPEN button, pull the face toward you, and pop it into the included face case. If the front panel is not detached from the head unit within five seconds of turning off the ignition, a warning tone will sound. The warning tone can be turned off in the menu, if desired. Face-fixing holders and screws are supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Pure White OEL Mulit-Language Display: The Premier DEH-P800PRS uses an exclusive White OEL (Organic Electro-Luminescent) display with an adjustable twelve step brightness setting. This creates a clean, easy-to-read display that easily fits in with any dashboard. For extra convenience, the headunit offers a multi-language menu, which can show information in three different languages-English, French, or Spanish. Using the Rotary Commander, allows you to change default language for all screen displays and menus.

Entertainment Displays: You can enjoy various entertainment displays while listening to each sound source. You can select from 4 visual backgrounds, 4 background pictures, 2 spectrum analyzers, a level meter, a level indicator, battery voltage indicator, an entertainment clock, movie screen, or Off.

Switchable Button Illumination: The headunit's button illumination can be changed to either white or blue.

Disc Naming: You can use the disc title input feature to store up to 48 CD titles in the unit's memory. Each title can be up to 10 characters long.

Text Scroll: This unit can display the first 14 letters of disc title, disc artist name, track title, and track artist name. When the text information is longer than 14 letter, you can scroll the text information using Ever Scroll. When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. It will auto-scroll up to 64 characters. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock displayremains on. When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display be pressing the clock button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

Dimmer: The dimmer function will dim this unit's display automatically when the vehicle light switch is turned On when you connect orange/white Illumination wire of this player.

Remote Control: The Premier DEH-P800PRS comes with a wireless remote control (CXC5717). The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. The attenuator button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90%. The head unit also has a 3.5mm minijack on the back panel for connecting an optional wired remote control, such as the CD-MR70 or CD-MR80 (130CDMR70 or 130CDMR80). In addition, the PAC SWI-PS steering wheel remote interface is compatible with this head unit.

    External Device Controls

iPod Ready: Using the Pioneer CD-iB100ii iPod Control Interface Adapter (130IB100II, sold separately) you can connect select iPods to the Premier DEH-P800PRS. The Premier DEH-P800PRS provides audio playback, control, information display, and charging for your iPod when connected via the CD-iB100ii (your connected iPod's control will be locked). The Premier DEH-P800PRS is compatible with the following iPods via the CD-iB100ii iPod adapter: iPod click-wheel (3rd generation), iPod color/photo (4th generation), iPod mini (1st/2nd generation), iPod video (5th generation), iPod classic (80/120/160GB), iPod nano (1st/2nd/3rd/4th generation), iPod touch (1st/2nd generation), and iPhone/iPhone 3G. The adapter uses the CD changer input on the Pioneer head unit. If you also want to use a CD changer, satellite tuner, or other IP-BUS device, there is a pass-through connection on the adapter, so they can be daisy chained together.

Note: Will not charge the iPod nano (4th generation), iPod touch (2nd generation), or iPhone 3G

Satellite Radio Ready: You can connect and control an external satellite radio tuner from XM or SIRIUS. The head unit is compatible with the GEX-P920XM (item number 130P920XM) Pioneer XM receiver. For Sirius, connect the SC-C1 SiriusConnect Universal Vehicle tuner and the CD-SB10 Pioneer Sirius Satellite Radio interface (package item number 700SIRPION) A subscription to XM or Sirius, plus the proper antenna is required in order to receive satellite radio programming. The satellite radio tuners connect via the IP-Bus connector on the back of the head unit.

Optional USB Adapter: You can also use this unit to control a USB adapter (CD-UB100, sold separately) to playback audio from a portable audio player that features a USB interface. The CD-UB100 allows you to listen to songs by connecting a USB portable audio/player USB memory that is USB Mass Storage Class compliant. This USB adapter plugs into the IP-Bus port on back of the radio and features a IP-Bus pass-through for daisy chaining another IP-Bus compatible component.

IP-Bus Changer Controls: You can add an IP-Bus-compatible 6-disc or 12-disc Pioneer CD changer, and control it from the head unit. The unit feature the following CD-changer features.

    • ITS (Instant Track Selection) Programming: The ITS function can be used to program automatic playback of up to 99 tracks per disc for up to 100 discs. With changers sold before the CDX-P1250 and CDX-P650, up to 24 tracks can be stored in the playlist.
    • Direct Disc Selection: You can directly select discs 1-6 by pressing the corresponding button number on the front panel or remote. Discs 7-12 can be selected by pressing and holding the corresponding button number, such as button 1 for disc 7, etc.
    • CD Track Scan: The beginning of each track on the selected disc plays for about 10 seconds before moving onto the next track and continues until you make your selection.
    • CD Text Display: When used with a CD Text-compatible Pioneer CD changer, this unit will display the titles of CD Text encoded discs that are played in the changer. When playing a CD Text disc on a CD Text compatible changer, you cannot switch to the Disc Title Input mode. CD Text disc titles, artist names and track titles longer than 8 characters may be scrolled once to reveal the entire string of text by holding down the Display button.
    • CD Sound Quality Adjustment: Using the "COMP" (compression) and "DBE" (dynamic bass emphasis) functions, you can adjust the playback quality of the changer. Each function may be set to one of two levels or off. The "COMP" function compresses the audio signal to eliminate distortions caused by the imbalances between the loudest and softest sounds when played at high volumes. The "DBE" function boosts bass frequencies to give your music a more full sound.

Note: For these functions to work, they must be supported by the Pioneer CD changer.

    Perfect HU... almost

Written By Tad, Iowa on Monday, August 03, 2009

I got this unit to control my active 3-way setup in my 06 Mustang GT. All the wiring took a bit but it was well worth it! The sound is absolutely amazing. The Auto EQ kept setting my bass way too low for my liking so I did manually manipulate that after a few attempts with the Auto EQ. My mids & highs sound absolutely amazing and I was able to get the subs to blend well. This head unit also looks great in my car. It looks very classy, yet simple. It isn't as "busy" as many others. Again, amazing sound is produced. My one frustration is with the BlueTooth. I purchased the adapter but I couldn't get it to work. I called Pioneer CS and they told me I couldn't use the active 3-way setup AND the BlueTooth; I had to pick one or the other. The first representative didn't really sound like they knew what they were talking about so I called back again the next day and got the same story. Neither worker sounded like they really knew this HU though. So anyway, I have a great sounding system, but the BlueTooth is still a no go :-( If not for this issue, I'd rate it a 6 stars out of 5!

    Excellent

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have been an enthusiast for over 18 years and have owned units from Kenwood, Alpine, and Pioneer. Today I run a full active system with seperate amplification for each channel. To me, this unit earns top marks for fit and finish, sound quality, and overall system tuning ability. I have not heard sound quality like this in many years, it sounds as good as the old-school Alpines from the '90s, in other words - excellent. Of course the long list of built-in functionality from a system tuning perspective is simply astounding, I loved ditching my separate crossover and 31 band EQ, don't miss them at all. Buying separate interfaces for Bluetooth and iPod isn't great and the menu system takes a few days to learn but gaining so much functionality with this level of sound quality makes it worth it for me. Great job Pioneer.

    Awesome HU

Written By Erik, Schererville, IN on Tuesday, May 12, 2009

I recently purchased this HU to replace an older alpine 9855. This was a definite upgrade. As far as SQ goes, this is probably the best HU I've ever had. The screen is a little smaller than the one I had on my 9855, but that's something I can deal with. The unit overall looks much classier in my car. As far as setting it up, the menus are very simple to use. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to turn off the beep whenever you press a key. I'm not sure if there is a way. I have yet to use the auto EQ or the auto TA so I'm not sure on how well they work. I don't believe that any auto EQ is going to be 100% accurate; however, I'm sure this one will get you pretty close to where you want to be then you'd be able to fine tune it from there. Also, the HU itself is very well built. As you've all probably seen, it's got a copper plated chassis. The face is also brushed aluminum I believe. I know it doesn't mean much, but you can literally feel the quality in this HU. I'd highly recommend this HU to anyone looking to get a one specifically designed for SQ.
