Enjoy your smartphone apps on the big screen

Face it, you can't live without your smartphone and the apps that help make your life easier. Pioneer's AppRadio 3 receiver lets you view those apps on its big 7” screen so it's easier to control them while you're on the road. You'll check out your favorite apps on a simplified menu that's designed for mobile use, so you can keep your eyes on the road instead of fumbling around with your phone.

The AppRadio 3 works with iPhone® 4, 4S, and 5, as well as select Android™ models, so you can enjoy compatibility regardless of what platform you're into. In order to enable all of these cool features offered by this Pioneer, you'll need to make sure that your smartphone's compatible with the AppRadio 3, and then pick out the right connection kit for your smartphone (sold separately).

Pioneer SPH-DA110 AppRadio 3

Control your apps from the large 7" touchscreen.

Navigation, music streaming, and web browsing

AppRadio 3 has you covered by supporting some of the most popular apps available. You'll find plenty of apps to enjoy right now, including MotionX GPS Drive™, INRIX® traffic, AUPEO! Personal Radio, Pandora® Internet radio, and Pioneer's MIXTRAX, with more coming down the road. You'll have the advantage of a sleek app interface, and the apps will look great on the 7" capacitive touchscreen, which recognizes all zoom, swipe, and pinch gestures just like if you were using your smartphone.

Siri® Eyes Free

If you have an iPhone 4S or 5, you'll hear Siri's voice prompts through your vehicle's sound system, and you can make commands or ask questions through the microphone that's included with this receiver. You can set reminders, ask for songs, request directions, or anything else you'd normally do with your iPhone.

AppRadioLIVE makes it easy

Pioneer's innovative AppRadioLIVE streamlines your app info and functions into one easy-to-use interface. You'll enjoy quick access to your music, media, calendar, and other sources you subscribe to, just by downloading the AppRadioLIVE app and syncing your services. AppRadioLIVE works with your apps to provide visual map guidance and access to points of interest, as well as the ability to search for concerts, shows, and other local events of interest. And you can show several sources of information simultaneously, quickly shifting from one to another with a touch of your finger.

Note: AppRadio Mode and AppRadioLIVE are currently not compatible with iOS 8 due to stability and display issues. Please see "Details" for more information.

Works with Android™ phones and features MirrorLink™ connectivity

The AppRadio 3 doesn't leave Android by the wayside when it comes to features, either. Not only will its App Mode support many Android phones, but this receiver takes it to the next level with MirrorLink support.  MirrorLink allows certain Nokia and Samsung smartphones (with more to come in the future) to display their interface on the AppRadio 3, so you can make phone calls, access map services, or check out music with ease. If you don't have a MirrorLink phone, you can still download a free Pioneer app that enables voice commands with your Android phone.

Talk hands-free and stream audio wirelessly with Bluetooth®

Built-in Bluetooth adds to the versatility of this cool receiver — pair your phone, and you'll be able to talk hands-free and access your phone book from the touchscreen. You can even stream audio from your smartphone to the receiver.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Complement your setup with a phone mount

The AppRadio 3 requires input from your iPhone from time to time — most notably when running the MotionX GPS Drive app. It's a good idea to mount your iPhone where it's easy to reach. Check out our selection of Pro.Fit mounts.

This smartphone receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play discs in your vehicle, Pioneer's SPH-DA210 AppRadio 3 receiver will play CDs and DVDs.

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. Pioneer has delivered a radio that has made only the most limited use of the touchscreen while putting far to many obstacles in the way of its functionality to be safe for even normal use while driving.

    Pros: Easy to clean.

Cons: Too many to list. Live with this radio for month and you'll come to same conclusion most have, it stinks!

The Pioneer SPH-DA110 AppRadio 3 is an overall extremely cool and powerful little headunit.

Starting off with value, yeah- it's incredibly steep, especially at the MSRP/usual price. I happened to swing this at an Open Box price, and was very happy that I did because otherwise I'm not quite sure if this would had been worth it at original price. By all means, shop around, look around, see if there are alternatives to purchasing. I'll explain why below.

Sound quality, stepping up from a factory head unit, this thing does wonders. I know, I'm probably overloading the speakers or whatnot, but definitely the amplifier/setup with this headunit does push more sound and better quality sound, to the stock speakers.

It's very simple to use, for the most part. There are a ton of deep menus that could've been better refined, or better implemented methods for using the HDMI/USB, or just Bluetooth, but intermixing it all gets overly confusing. It's a little slow, but normal for most touch screen head units. Compare this with the average joe head unit, and people will drop their jaws when you show them the things this guy will be able to do.

Albeit, lots of the software are closed, slow, or overly intensive, it's definitely high up on the coolness scale. In other words, AppRadio is cool and awesome and sweet for a touch screen, but severely limited. I wish developers would start developing and customizing it to it's max potential.

Build quality wise, it's been tough and durable!

Pros: -Awesome coolness factory -Adds "umph" in the stock speakers -Adds a ton of awesome features- bluetooth, Pandora, nav, etc. -Definitely modernizes any old car -Tons of ways of integration and supports it all

Cons: -Slow sometimes -Integration through bluetooth/HDMi/USB gets overly complicated at times -Severely limited, basically only capable of what your smartphone is capable of.

For the price, this is worth it. Now for all the add-ons to make it even better... Still may be worth it for some. I made it so it could mirror my phone, which costed me 1/3rd of the price after rooting my phone, gettin extra apps, extra adapters/cables, etc. Honestly, if they had a molded trim for my car where I could stick in an iPad mini or Galaxy tablet I would've paid the extra for that. But overall it does what it's supposed to do as long as you don't care to mess with it too much.

I was a little "Concerned" about this unit with no CD option.(Didn't want to shell out for DVD model) This unit is awesome even with a Android phone. Highly recommend this unit!

Pros: Bluetooth audio is clean and clear, the difference in sound over factory unit is even better than what I expected. Plenty of features with AppMode too.

Cons: Didn't come with HDMI connector for AppMode hookup. Unit is a little sluggish but does everything its asked.

Love this unit! Almost returned it because my phone would not pair bluetooth (Samsung GS4 on KitKat) ended up doing a factory restore on phone to fix. Do your research on what cables you need to be able to mirror your screen to the AR3! If you have a Samsung the Pioneer Android cable kit is useless. Get the Samsung HDTV adapter with HDMI cable and a micro USB to standard USB cable, or if your like me and hate having the phone plugged in, use Samsung's wireless AllShare dongle.

    Pros: Everything!

    Cons: Needs more compatible apps

Wasn't to hard to install. Fits like it was meant to be in the car. I would say that I would only change a couple of things. Take the wire out for the parking brake. What if I want to use this to show a video to my daughter to calm her down while driving down the road?? Can't with this product. Also I would make it more clear that when you are hooking up to the apps that you have to touch the white dot on the radio screen a few times. Thanks to the great Crutchfield tech support for helping me through that, even though he didn't even know about it.

I am very pleased with this Radio and using it with AR Unchained and a rooted Android phone has worked perfectly. The combination of those two gives me exactly what I want out of car stereo.

Pros: Solid Construction that looks great. Captive touch screen and AR Unchained gives me my phone display on a 7" screen in the middle of my dash. GREAT!

Cons: Stock apps are not that great, but AR Unchained fixes that.

I got it installed pretty easily, but finding the connectors for an iPhone 5 that will work with the radio and make it easy to connect is impossible. There are no lightning cable extensions available that will work. Beyond that fact, I couldn't believe how useless this thing was once I finally got my phone connected. No iPod connectivity, no gps on screen while driving, and the interface looks terrible on the screen. Yeah, it'll launch Waze on your phone, but that is pointless. I'm beyond frustrated with it. It sounds good. Looks good. Behaves like crap. I'll be sticking with Pioneer for the sound, but I am switching to something that has a front mounted usb port and easy iphone connectivity because this was a waste of time.

    Pros: Looks good, sounds good

Cons: Does not work anything like advertised

I am super happy about my App Radio 3 purchase. the install was a little confusing at first, since I have never tried to install a stereo before, but a quick call into Crutchfield and it all made sense. 2 weeks into having the Radio installed I lost all sound. One more quick call to Crutchfield to see what was going on, and they quickly diagnosed the problem to be with one of the adapters. 2 days later I had the replacement part, popped it in and all was well.

Pros: Bluetooth connection is quicker then in my wife's 2013 Prius, call quality is amazing. The touch screen responsiveness is fantastic.

Cons: hooking it up to my iPhone 5 (I have not purchased the kit yet) does not excite me. spending an additional $100-120 ($150 if you don'y buy from Crutchfield) is pretty lame for a radio that was designed to work with iPhone. With out the iphone adapter cables I have very limited functionality on the Radio. If you plan to buy this Radio, be prepared to buy the iPhone adapter kits, and do it at the time of purchasing the Radio.

Pioneer should be ashamed of themselves

Pioneer should be ashamed of themselves for releasing a product such as this. I could see if this were first generation of this product having the ridiculous problems that this thing has, but 3rd generation? Pioneer should be begging their customers that bought this junk for forgiveness. If I hadn't let this sit in my garage waiting to be installed for so long, I would be returning it to Crutchfield for a refund. I gave it a full month after install to see if I could get used to its quirks, but these aren't quirks, these are outright flaws in concept, design, and execution.

If Crutchfield would let me type more than a 1000 characters, I would give this thing a proper review, but this format is far too limited to do so.

The only real positive I can find with this head unit is that it fits and conforms to Double DIN standards. It was easy to install because it fits and conforms to those standards. Beyond that, I can find no redeeming qualities. Garbage. Stay away from it. You will regret it. I can't even give it "cool" points because it HAS TO WORK in order to be "cool".

Pros: Fits. Conforms to DIN Standards.

Cons: Everything else. Slow. Sloppy execution. Bluetooth auto-connect is garbage. App "integration" is garbage. It should be called app interrogation, as Pandora has been made useless when in my car. I hate this thing so much that it has turned me from a Pioneer fan into a consumer who will likely never buy one of their products again. Truly shameful.

Overall from install to use, this radio is easy and cool, my issues with it come when you try to sync your phone with it. In my experience the phones I've used have only ever gotten to a half way point of being usable through appradio. The apps themselves are very limited and not that useful or great in general. A lot of bulk for minimal "additional features". I think Pioneer is ahead of its time (ironic) with this technology. Parts of it are very solid and deliever a true quality product and then other aspects seem to remind me of a beta version.

Pros: Sounds, menus, ease of use/install

Cons: appradio not quite where it should be yet.

I purchased this unit as well as a micro bypass and installation was a breeze. However i initally had this set up using a 64gb iphone 4s and performance was OK . in ipod mode it worked great however in app mode i found most of the apps to be useless and slow. The carmedia app would crash often and overall performance was sluggish. However the radio, Bluetooth streaming and ipod features worked flawless. After being slightly dissapointed i decided to go the alternate route by installing the "ARUNCHAINED " app on my rooted Galaxy s3 and I have never been happier with a car stereo. This stereo suddenly became a dream the unit i always wanted . Its a great price and it can be as great as you want it to be if you have the tools and know how.

Pros: Price ,Endless availability of tools and software to customize it to perfection.

Cons: Default app mode can be very buggy and slow.

Cons: requires so much additional equipment, which is currently unavailable, that the system is almost as disappointing as buying a sony product

Overall, I am very satisfied with this product. The AppRadio connecting via the 2 expensive cables in my glovebox is not the most practical thing in the world, so I use the bluetooth connectivity almost exclusively. Very simple to navigate on the touchscreen, the fm radio seemed to lose some power & frequency after installing this unit, but no real complaints, great sound quality & great sound controls at the unit

Pros: great display, very attractive unit, simple bluetooth connectivity makes me never take my phone out of my pocket in the vehicle, touchscreen is plenty responsive, no glitches, very durable

Cons: For AppRadio I have to connect 2 cables & put my phone in the glovebox and it's always more of a hassle, thus I find myself just bluetoothing my iTunes Library & Pandora most of the time, the display could be more responsive, but this is not bad bang for the buck,

This radio takes some getting used to. It is also very frustrating when the connection between the phone and radio fails. When you turn your car on, make sure the phone is unlocked. If the phone is locked the app will fail to load and you will have to unplug and plug in again - you do get the request for permission on the locked screen, but it does not work for me, it never opens the app when you unlock. To log into the app section of the radio you have to hit 'allow' when the prompt comes on the screen of the phone. If for some reason you exit that section, you will have to hit allow on the phone again. When you plug the phone into the radio, the bluetooth turns off. If you plug the phone in, while the app is not working/hung on your phone, the phone call features, apps or music will not work at all. While your phone is connected and working properly, the screen has to be on - so if you go on a long trip, the phone is charged, but also very hot when you place it back in your pocket. I am really hoping they put out a patch or upgrade to the software to make it more user friendly or I will eventually find a different head unit. On an unrelated note, the Crutchfield staff was more than helpful and knowledgable.

Pros: * the bluetooth feature works very well * the radio itself works very well * the phone calls are clear and the microphone works well

Cons: * hard to use * they need more apps * the MAPS feature is not useful. You have to download a third party app to use navigation

This is a great radio, looks great in the vette and integrates nicely. The crutchfield team was awesome at all stages (I even got a handwritten TY from Hunter). The appradio has HUGE potential to be a game changer but...it needs more aggressive development and synch improvements. My iPhone 5 only connects about 50% of the time and I have no idea why.

Buy it for the cool...you get it right away. Buy it for the potential...and hope that it comes to fruition!
