Overview

Our take on the Pioneer TS-A1374R

You jump in your ride and turn on your favorite song — you're straining to hear the snare drum, but it's still just barely audible. And that dull, fuzzy-sounding bass guitar is just about breaking your heart. Pioneer TS-A Series speakers bring your music back into focus with precise, superior reproduction of instruments and vocals, so all those details you love will really pop.

Pioneer's TS-A1374R 3-way speakers feature 5-1/4" woofers with stiff Aramid-reinforced polypropylene cones that ensure clarity in your music's bass and percussion. Highly elastic polymer surrounds help keep cone movement under control, for smooth, tight bass. The 1-5/8" cones fill in all the midrange details for lush vocals and crisp instruments.

Soft dome tweeters deliver warm, dimensional treble, so you'll hear all the overtones that give your music ambiance. The built-in crossovers ensure that the right frequencies go to the tweeter, midrange, and woofer, so your music sounds natural, just as the artist intended.

Arrived quickly and installed with ease. Excellent sound.

Pioneer still sounds great

Written by: John J. from Humble, TX on May 19, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After more than four decades of mobile sound in my cars & trucks, Pioneer is still the most dependable of speakers to use. In a Jeep sound bar, these Pioneer TS-A1374R speakers sound great. They replaced the Chrysler factory paper speakers with a "whizzer cones" for highs. (Someone still uses whizzer cones?) There are no boom-boom lows for rap lovers, but if you like music, real music, these will meet or exceed your expectations. They could be a bit more efficient for use with a factory radio, but with my factory set up they are fine. Recommended.

Pros: Good sound, and three way speakers catch more nuances than two way speakers. Easy to install in a Jeep sound bar, and for $50 and free plugs from Crutchfield- do it.

Cons: None worth mentioning.

So easy!

Crutchfield really goes above and beyond including everything you need to install any product in a given vehicle, they just take the guess work out of everything. These speakers came with practically everything I needed to install them except the tools. Couldn't ask for better service out of a company.

Pros: Great sound at any volume Easy to install

Cons: None

No bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used these speakers with a JVC receiver, and got no almost no bass at all, even with the low frequencies dialed to "10" on the Eq. They do give clear mids and high range, so they are fine if you have other speakers to supply the bass. I don't recommend them for use on their own, though.

I listen to classic rock and classic metal and these speakers are an excellent upgrade. Great mids and highs and the bass is good too. They won't shake your car, but they do provide decent bass. I installed them in the doors of my Ford with the 6x8 to 5 1/4 adapter bracket and I'm using the foam baffles with the bottoms cut off. Powered by a Sony WX-GT80UI headunit.

1993 Volkswagen Eurovan
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these because of the wide frequency response range, as an upgrade from the single cone door speakers in my VW Eurovan Camper . My head unit is an older Kenwood with 6 diferent EQ modes plus adjustable bass, mid, and treble. The crossovers in these speakers produce very well defined mid and high range with a wide range of adjustment. The bass is lacking, but even at the max setting it doesn't distort at high volume.

Pros: These are excellent replacement or upgrade speakers, well worth the price. Very easy to install using the grill as a template for the mounting holes. Crutchfield included the VW speaker wiring harness adapters and customized installation instructions. Don't waste your time and money at the local car audio, dvd, and wheel store.

Cons: Don't expect a lot of bass from 5.25" speakers

These are a replacement for the stock rear speakers that came with my 2007 Civic. Shipping and installation instructions were great from Crutchfield. The Pioneer speakers on the on other hand sound worse than the stock speakers they replaced. I am no sound expert and my car radio is stock, but I could not believe Pioneer was bested by Honda's part bin. You get what you pay for I guess.

Pros: They fit properly.

One of the best 5 1/4 speakers

2005 Chevrolet Avalanche
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed these today in the rear doors of my 2005 Avalanche with Bose system. I've replaced the factory receiver with a Sony WX-GT90BT using the Metra GMOS-100, so I'm still running the Bose amp and miniature subwoofer. My front door speakers are Infinity 6030CS. I think that these Pioneer TS-A1374R are some of the best sounding 5 1/4 inch speakers I've ever heard. I've had them turned up fairly loudly and I've noticed no distortion. They seem to have very good mid-range and the highs are good, also. For this size speaker, they also have very good bass response. I'm not going to tell you that they have the same bass response as a subwoofer or even 6x9 speakers, but for their size, they put out as some good mid bass, again, with no distortion. I tend to listen to mostly classic rock from the 60s, 70s and 80s and they work very well for that. They sound far better overall and much more clear and crisp than the factory Bose speakers. It took less than an hour combined to install them. They're direct bolt-ins with no modification needed. I know that Crutchfield recommends larger speakers for the rear doors of the Avalanche, but the Avalanche rear speakers with the Bose system are actually 5 1/4 speakers and if you don't want to remove the plastic factory mounts, these are a perfect fit. I had no issues with clearance with these, using the factory grills. So far, after one day, I couldn't be happier with these. If that changes, I'll revisit my review.

Pros: Excellent frequency response (28 - 29k Hz). Great deal for the price. Excellent replacement for factory speakers.

Cons: They don't install themselves?

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was easy especially since Crutchfield supplied vehicle specific instructions and the adapters to connect the factory harness to these speakers. I paired these with the Pioneer 3-way 6X9's in the rear and together they are a great improvement over the 13 year old factory speakers. Wish I had upgraded to these much earlier.

Pros: Sound clarity, ease of installation

Cons: Rears could use an amp to drive the bass at lower volumes.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First off, I put these in after having only stock speakers so of coarse the improvement is going to be substantial. I only replaced the speakers and left the factory headunit in the vehicle and these speakers make such a huge difference in quality. I can turn these all the way up and no distortion at all. (note I have dual 10" subs that handle majority of the bass) I am very pleased with these speakers.

Pros: Good highs with the tweeters, and good lows. NO distortion even at max volume.

Cons: The mid range of these could use a little boost, but they are not top of the line so you cant expect them to be flawless.

Good upgrade for 2002 CRV speakers

2002 Honda CRV LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For those owning a 2nd gen Honda CRV, these speakers pack a nice punch. Granted these nor any speakers around this size will give you deep bass output (also depends on your headunit and available EQ settings), they produce good sound without distortion. Don't let the box get you too concerned on minimum RMS stating 35W as most aftermarket headunits only provide up to 20-25 Watts RMS. Cruthfield does a nice job of providing a RANGE of acceptable RMS watt headunit for powering these speakers as 2 - 35 Watts. A quick call to Crutchfield helpdesk confirmed this range acceptable for these speakers.

Pros: Good upgrade for price Clearer sound than factory provided speakers

Cons:

not bad

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have waited years to finally get replacement speakers that would fit in my wife's 2002 CRV. I replaced all four OEM speakers and the quality of the sound was amazing. The OEM speaker is a one way/single cone speaker. The Pioneer three way has so much more clarity, even with the OEM radio. The installation guide is a "must have" item that provided the information I needed to install all four speakers in one hour. Finding all of those hidden screws, clips, etc. is nearly impossible without the installation guide.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Considering I upsized from crappy factory 4" speakers with magnets better suited for my refrigerator, cones made from computer paper and a factory reciever that put out arround 5-8 watts RMS with a JVC KRW-XR610 (20 watts RMS), I am still amazed with the overall perfomanceof said speakers! Crystal clear sound and bass that makes me consiously realize that I HAVE rear speakers makes my daily trek to and from work unmeasurably better! Traffic? so what!!! (HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPEAKERS) *sigh*.... Subaru uses a propietary bolt pattern for their speakers that only uses 3 screws instead of the typical 4 so the factory speaker brackets have more of a triangular shape not square so if you own an '02-'07 impreza and want new speakers that is why crutchfield.com gives you a warning once you select your car in the drop down menu. They recomend 4" speakers but the won't fit because the cutout in the door frame is literaly the same shape as a 4" speaker... yes, the cutout is a square (more or less) for a triangular speaker. You can fit a 5.25" speaker but you need to find a set of subaru specific speaker adapters (I got mine from iaperformance.com).

Features

Woofers: Each speaker features an IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) cone woofer interlaced with carbon graphite and long aramid fibers and a 7.6-ounce strontium ferrite magnet. This IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity that powerful bass requires. The high-density, compressed internal architecture is resilient and transfers sound very quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound.

Surrounds: For durability and a smooth response, each woofer uses an elastic polymer surround.

Midranges: Each speaker has a 1-5/8" polyester fiber cone midrange for accurate response with low distortion. The midranges have 0.7 ounce strontium ferrite magnets.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 3/8" dome tweeter made from PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) film for crisp, clear highs.
