Pioneer A-Series component speaker systems offer high-quality sound and powerful playback, with the strong stereo image that only separate components can provide. The tough woofers pound out the low frequencies, the separate tweeters open up the sound with detailed highs, and the external crossovers make sure that every note's in perfect balance.

The TS-A1702C system includes 6-3/4" woofers made from polypropylene laced with Aramid, a synthetic fiber used in bullet-proof vests. Add in butyl rubber surrounds, and you can count on these woofers to pump out strong bass for years to come. You can surface- or flush-mount the component tweeters, and you can swivel them after installation to face your listening position.

This Pioneer component system's wide frequency response, strong power handling, and "aim-ability" give your music an incredible live image. You can drive this efficient component system with your car stereo, but it'll reach its full potential when paired with an outboard amplifier.

Product Highlights:

  • component speaker system includes two 6-3/4" woofers, 2 tweeters, two external crossovers, and two woofer grilles
  • injection-molded carbon graphite polypropylene with Aramid woofers
  • butyl rubber surrounds
  • 7/8" Tetron soft dome tweeters
  • 2-way external crossovers
  • 4-ohm impedance
  • 2-50 watts RMS power range (230 watts peak)
  • frequency response: 31-35,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90 dB
  • includes adapter rings for 6-1/2" and 6"x8" and 5"x7" openings
  • depth: 2-1/2"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

I ordered these for the front doors of my 89 gt mustang. They installed easy but the cord for the crossover was nice and long for the tweeter side but rather short for the woofer side. They sound nice as a midrange and highs. Bass is kinda low which was ok for me because i have a sub and wanted nice clear voice sounds. The tweeters are very clear and loud.

Great sounding speakers but you should note that the wiring to the crossover is tiny 18
gauge wire that is permanently soldered to the unit and then covered in epoxy. If you're
looking to run aftermarket speaker wire to the unit, you're wasting your time. The picture
of the crossover here and on Pioneer's website has the wire clipped off so you can't tell.
It looks as if you could merely plug your aftermarket speaker wire into the unit but you

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I temporarily hooked these up to my factory radio in my 2008 camry and they made a world of difference. I really did not expect such a difference but it sounds 100% clearer and better. I installed these in the two front doors with the tweeter against the inside of the side mirrors. The rear are Pioneer Premier TS-A933P and together, they match up wonderfully.

Will hook it up to an amp soon to provide highs and mids. From what I hear so far, it will be even better. Thanks Crutchfield for the advice!

I didn't get to enjoy these speakers the way they were intended to be enjoyed, but I can say this, when I saw these speakers and all they came with I was sure I was getting the best! These are top dollar high end component speakers! I wish I knew exactly what it was I was getting myself into when I bought them and I would have been able to use them the way they were intended and enjoy the high quality sound these speakers could offer.

Great Sound

I bought these to replace the speakers in my 90 Thunderbird SC.
The sound is crystal clear with the rockford 450.4 amp that is powering
them. I mounted the tweets on the a pillars aimed straight for my ears. Im
simply amazed at how well these sound with any type of music going
through them...highly recommend!

Clear, well rounded speakers.

I haven't had these speakers very long, but I knew right off the bat I was gonna like 'em, especially for the price. These are smooth sounding, and easy on the ears, compared to the metal tweeters I was using before. Yes, the lows lack somewhat, but that's a job for my subs. I'm going to install a 100 watt punch amp to push these 6-3/4's. That should really make a difference in my system. I would definitately recommend these to anyone wanting to save a couple hundred dollars, and get good speakers in the process. Mounting these speakers was a breeze, thanks to Crutchfield's guidance and Pioneer's mounting accessories.

2003 Ford Mustang
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a great oem replacement. Unlike many component speakers I listened to, these sound great with the factory stereo. I put them in a Workhorse chassis RV and the sound is 10 times as good as with the factory speakers.

The only down side is the tiny, nearly useless installation pictures (with no text at all) on the back of the speaker box. They try to show four different intallation methods in a space much smaller than the top half of a newspaper's front page. Since Crutchfield doesn't list my actual vehicle, I named my other car, a Mustang, so Crutchfield's directions weren't much help either.

Bottom line, though, the speakers are installed, and sound fantastic.

2001 Ford Ranger
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers to replace some JBL speakers in a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge. The install was straightforward with the outstanding directions supplied by Crutchfield. The installation took me about 5 hours as I had to drill the holes for the tweeters and soldier the wires due to the factory connectors being removed by the previous owner.
The speakers have very good highs and mids but I need a sub to recreate the bass response I desire. I will also be installing an aftermarket amplifier as the factory radio does not supply enough power for my taste. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who wants budget friendly component speaker. Sound much better then separates. I am happy with the purchase.

front pontiac g6 replacement

I bought these to replace the front mids and highs in my 07 g6 gtp sedan. I had to make the holes for the tweeters a little bigger than the stock and use the old speaker as a bracket. Took all of a hour! Excellent sound with a Alpine MRP-F250. crisp highs. Only issue is no adjustable crossover.

Great sound, install sketchy.

2003 Nissan Xterra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this component set to replace the stock woofers and tweeters in my 2003 Xterra.

The component set worked great after I wasted a day doing a custom install.

The two-piece design of the free mounting brackets didn't provide a nice seal between the front and back of the woofer creating a drastic loss of bass response.

I ended up destroying the factory speakers to use them to fabricate my own brackets. After that the speakers were golden.

The tweeters screwed directly onto the factory tweeter brackets, which was nice, but required me to modify the grilles by removing the tabs that retained them in the A-piller. Super glue was my friend.

All-in-all, the speakers do sound good, but if you've got an Xterra, be sure to allow yourself some extra time for the install.

Great Sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great in my Avalanche. They replaced the factory components (tweeter & woofer) in the front doors. Combined with the EQ options and imaging with my Sony head unit, the sound can be awesome. With some oldies, I'm hearing thing I haven't heard in 30 years- amazing.

Don't expect a direct fit to replace the factory tweeter. I covered the old hole with the black/gray material from my old woofer. The new Pioneer tweeter attached easily to the surface but with enough room to fit under the factory grill- and allowed setting a nice angle for imaging. There's also a nice and convenient place in the door at about the 10 o'clock position from the woofer in which to attach the crossover.

The downside- Pioneer doesn't really have an install guide book. They have only diagrams and too few/too small words in many laguages, on the box. Thankfully the Crutchfield included instructions worked, and the supplemental information online made it an over-the-top successful installation.

IMPP Woofer: Each 6-3/4" cone woofer is made from interlaced dual Aramid fiber-reinforced Carbon Graphite IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene). With long dual Aramid fibers interlacing together inside, this Carbon Graphite IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity powerful bass sound requires. The high-density, compressed internal architecture is resilient and stacks up against high power and transfers sound very quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound.

Surrounds: For durability and a smoother response, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Grilles: The TS-A1702C comes supplied with a set of speaker grilles that feature a plastic silver ring and a black metal mesh insert. The supplied grilles are designed for when the woofers are installed in aftermarket 6-3/4" openings.

Mounting: The TS-A1702C's woofers can be mounted in a standard 4-hole 6-3/4" opening without the use of a bracket. In addition, the woofers can be mounted in a standard 3-hole 6-1/2" opening with the use of the supplied 6-1/2" speaker adapter 1/2" lift rings. The woofers can also be mounted in a standard 6x8" opening or a Ford/Mazda 5x7" opening using the supplied 6x8"/6x8C adapter brackets.

Soft-Dome Tweeter: The TS-A1702C features two 7/8" soft-dome tweeters with magnetic fluid and Neodymium magnets for efficient, crisp, clear highs.

Mounting: The tweeters can be flush mounted using the supplied metal clamps. The supplied plastic mounting cups allow you to surface mount the tweeters in an aftermarket location or mount the tweeters in a factory tweeter location behind a factory installed grille. The surface mounting cup lets you position the tweeter at 50-degree or 75-degree angle. Once installed the tweeters do not swivel. The surface mounting cups attach to a flat, clean surface of your vehicle with the supplied two-sided tape.
