Features

Woofers: Each speaker features an interlaced Aramid fiber-reinforced IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) cone woofer. With long Aramid fibers interlacing together inside, this IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity powerful bass sound requires. The high-density, compressed internal architecture is resilient, stacks up against high power and transfers sound very quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound.

Surrounds: For durability and a smoother response, each speaker uses a butyl rubber surround.

Midranges: Each speaker uses a 1-5/8" Foamed Pearl PolyCarbon (PPC) balanced-dome midrange with magnetic fluid and a strontium magnet. PPC is a lightweight material that delivers high sensitivity, open sound character and smooth extended frequency response. Its high inner loss reduces distortion. It's blended with special carbon fiber for UV resistance and protection against the harsh environment of a car.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 3/8" PET silver film dome tweeter for crisp, clear highs.

Can't beat the value

Written By Michael, Havelock, NC on Saturday, January 14, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these behind the seat of my Ford F-150 and they might be the best value available. I put more expensive speakers in the front doors and after hearing the difference in sound quality I should have saved some money and put these Pioneers up front too. Not to mention these speakers were actually slightly bigger than the more expensive speakers. I highly recommend these speakers for both their value and quality.

Amazing

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

All I can say is wow! I'm upgrading my car system slowly, and this was the first change I made and did it make a difference. I replaced my stock speakers (both fronts and backs) with these 3-ways and I don't think I could have spent 79.99 any better. It was a real bargain and the quality is amazing. Even my friend who installs car systems as a side job was amazed at the quality of the sound that was produced. Good Buy for anyone in need of some good speakers.

Excellent Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these speakers in my 96 Explorer matched with an Alpine 9847 deck that puts out 72W for all 4 channels together and that is all you need! The installation was simple and easy except for the screws that were supplied by Pioneer were simply not adequate enough so I had to reuse the stock screws, No biggie. Lets just say if you are considering these speakers, when cranking with the treble all the way up and the bass most of the way up, i can play them so that my rear view and side mirrors shake! Yes they are that good. Overall EXCELLENT product by Pioneer.

Excellent Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I finally got to take these for a long drive to really test them out. I love them.

I have these powered by an Alpine head unit and paired up with a boomy sub, which means I need my speakers to pump out 80Hz and higher, since my sub booms the very low frequencies best. These speakers handle everything the head unit could give to them.

They are rather versatile. They can be warm or very crisp, depending on the head unit setup. Warm enough to do Mark Knopfler justice and crisp enough for Pearl Jam.

The speakers make me wish I had an external amp -- at excessive volume, the midrange gets muddied up by the bass. The 18W RMS I have is fine for serious volume over open-window freeway noise while next to a truck.

For all but the serious audiophile (that really has no place in a noisy vehicular setting), these speakers are excellent. Considering the price, they are easy to recommend.

decent

pretty good speakers, but not great. i went from 2 working/2 half blown stock Ford Contour speakers to a set of these pioneers, and really, the difference isnt all that incredible. Now all I can really say is that I have working speakers now. bass response isnt anything to run home about but the high end is pretty good.

Good Product for the Price paid

Killer speakers, great price

Written By Brian, FL on Tuesday, July 12, 2005

I added these speakers after replacing my Mustang's factory deck with the Kenwood SR700. These speakers sound great with Sirius or cds, nice bass for the size and very clear! From my experience Pioneer makes speakers that really sound good inside of a car no matter the deck. This is the 2nd vehicle I have had aftermarket Pioneer speakers in (the other had a Pioneer deck) and the sound difference has been amazing with both.

Great value

There wasn't a huge slection that would fit in the doors on my car and I normally wouldn't have gone with what I considered a lower end speaker. It did have features I wanted like rubber surrounds. I am impressed with the value these Pioneers provide. Highs are clear and there is decent bass output for a 6x8. Overall they are a great value. You get alot for the money.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers! Put them my '99 Ford Ranger ... fit just right. I've been really impressed with the lower end on these speakers -- plenty for the space in my truck, even without an amp. The highs are clear as well ... go with the threeways: well worth the extra money.

I paired these with a Panasonic CQ-C8100U, made for a very nice combination.

Yes, it is better to use the screws that came with the speakers -- Ford factory screws won't fit.

Well Worth It

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to replace the front ones in my 1993 Crown Victoria because the stereo I installed, a Pioneer DEH-P8MP, with its 60 watts per channel, yes 60, decided that the factory ones were too weak and that they must be sacrificed in the name of good tunes. The only problem that I had was that the master sheet told me to use the car's screws, but the washer that's built into the head of said screw was too large for the the space above the hole of the speaker mount. Other than that this speaker is perfect, nice highs, awesome bass, a well rounded speaker.

Okay

Installation was easy. Mid range and bass is very good. But I was disappointed with the high range -- not "crisp" as stated in the other reviews. I am using the factory PT Cruiser radio/tape player with no additional amp, etc.

Crisp Highs, Sweet Midrange, Thumping Bass at a nice price...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

WOW, that sums it all up...end of story! I purchased two sets of these speakes for my 2000 Ford Explorer a few weeks ago. The price was right and I wanted to get the most out of my newly installed Sony headunit. I could not belive the difference that these speakers made. I listen to ALL types of music and I must admit it was worth the money! Extreamly easy to install and the support that you receive from Crutchfield is second to none! You can't go wrong with these...

Great speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers work great in my 99 Ranger. They sound excellent and were an easy install. The only tricky part was the rear pair. If you have an extended cab 2-door truck, the supplied screws are not long enough. However, a quick trip to the hardware store and 60 cents made that an easy fix. Great product - especially for the price!

One Word: Awesome

Paired with my Sony head-unit 52x4 really produces great sound. It puts out more bass than expected and the all ranges sound good. I recommended these for everyone.

Well worth the money. They produce excellent mid-range and CRISP highs if you provide them the power with an amp. I have the XPlod head unit producing 52W max and added another 50W to all 4 in my truck and it will DEFINITELY hurt your ears. I have always love Pioneer's mid and high range speakers.

Great bang for the buck

I just installed 4 of these in my Convertible Mustang w/an Alpine headunit. It rocks! A lot of value for the money. Crisp highs and a great Mid Bass Punch!

Pioneer 6x8 3 way speakers

Written By jared schatz, St. Mary's, PA on Wednesday, February 09, 2005

The pioneers were absolutely awesome in my ranger. Then, i got the idea to wire them into my 250W Sony Xplod amp. Wow. I cant describe the performance of these speakers in words. They are absolutely awesome. I have absolutely no complaints with them and would recommend them to anyone the needs 6x8 speakers and is interested in pioneer speakers. I would really have a hard time believing anything other than the 4 way speakers pioneer sells would sound any better for the price. Bottom line great price, phenominal sound, a great bang for your buck setup.

Get everything you’ll need to enjoy your new Pioneer TS-A6870R

Reduce ambient road noise and your vehicle's "rattles," for better sound inside your car.
You'll need speaker wire to connect your speakers to your amp.
Keep your speakers clean and dry. They compress to fit behind your speakers.
The right tools will help keep your installation simple and clean.
If your stereo doesn't cut the deep bass from your full-range speakers, a set of bass blockers can help prevent distortion and give you cleaner bass too.
