Our take on the Pioneer TS-A6882R

Pioneer uses high-tech materials in their A-Series speakers so you can have powerful, high-quality sound in your car. The smooth response and extended high frequency range of these speakers produce a superior stereo image — almost like listening to a band play live.

The TS-A6882R 6"x8" speakers feature carbon graphite polypropylene woofers reinforced with Aramid fibers, a lightweight synthetic used in bullet-proof vests — they not only stand up to the stress of high-volume playback, they hit louder using less power. Butyl rubber surrounds help keep cone movement smooth and resilient, so the bass plays tight and clean.

The TS-A6882R 4-way speakers don't scrimp when it comes to the mids and highs either. Pioneer made the midrange drivers out of a special laminated polyester that's 30% lighter than conventional material, resulting in faster, more accurate reproduction of instruments and vocals. PET silver film dome tweeters and supertweeters deliver bright, sparkling treble, letting you experience all the overtones that bring ambiance and life to your music.

Priced per pair

Sounds good so far. They are only powered by the factory head unit with no amp so who knows what the potential may be.

Daaaaam!

Written by: U Cant Guard Me....&1 from Chitown on December 10, 2010

Plainly put, these speakers are vastly superior to most if not all 6x8's out there. If you drive a Ford, you need to buy these right now! I had the Infinity 6820's front and back and they were ok, didn't hold bass at all, could never really find the sweet spot. My setup consists of modest gear, and Alpine head unit, Alpine KTP 445 amp, a 500 watt Kicker amp with 2 MTX 10" (avoid this amp at all costs) Just running the 6x8's off the alpine KTP amp sounds better than I had imagined, the highs are crisp, mids and bass are adequate, you won't win any awards but if you want good sounds for not a lot of money this is an option. I will only buy Pioneer speakers from now on, until somebody proves otherwise I know what a pain searching for the right setup can be, so I hope this helps, and no, you still can't guard me.......&1 "

these speakers are horrible. i've notice the positive reviews come from people running factory radios or replaced factory speakers. they may sound better than the original equipment, but if you're running amps, these are terrible. they don't sound clear and they distort at a relatively low volume. go w/the alpine type r!

2007 Ford F-150
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered two pairs of these speakers for my F-150. They arrived the next day with the wire connectors for the factory connection and complete instuructions. I installed them myself in less than an hour using only a few tools. They sound great, that's the bottom line. A rockin set of speakers at a great price. I'd recommend these to anyone. The fact that they are an exact fit for Ford and Mazda vehicles is also a bonus. Don't hesitate, you'll be greatly satisfied with these!

Nice Sound but They Don't Fit

Written by: Steven from Columbia, IL on July 21, 2009

I bought these based on Crutchfield's recommendation that they fit in a 2001 Ford Taurus front doors, but they do not. I can no longer roll the windows down all the way, they go down about 3/4 travel but then hit the speaker magnets. I previously had a pair of Polk 6 x 8's in there that fit fine but one eventually blew out so I chose these Pioneers as a replacement. These sound great and are a good value but unless I can shim them out somehow, I'm never going to be able to roll down the windows fully.

2001 Toyota Tacoma
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these speakers into an 01 Tacoma extracab and they sound so much better than the stock speakers that were in there! The stock speakers are fine, but these pick up so much more of the music that it sounds great. A little but more bass, which isn't really what I was after, but much more detail in the music. The installation was a bit of a pain, but still do-able. The instructions from Crutchfield list an 01 as an 02, but no big deal. One major issue that will make the installation run much smoother...take off the seatbelt retaining bolts!! The brackets stick up just enough to drive you insane while putting the body panel back up. Other than that, ran smooth and great sounding speakers!

1996 Ford Explorer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought 2 pair to replace the stock "Premium Speakers" that were installed in my Explorer. I was tired of listening to my wife say she did not like how distorted the music was with my Duel receiver was with the stock speakers. They were easy to install with the guide that Crutchfield sent with them, and easy to hook up with the wiring harness they also sent. It only took me about an hour to replace all 4. The hardest part was removing the door panels, but I have done it before to replace the power window motors, it was no big deal. They fit in the stock openings, and the screws lined up correctly with no problems. They now sound so much better, you can hear the full range of the music now. Granted, they are not built to "thump" with the heavy base, but I don't like my music that way anyway. If you want the base, then get a set of kickers, etc. But for everyday use they sound clear, and great. Anyone wanting to replace any stock Ford speakers I would recommend these to do the trick.

2000 Ford Focus ZX3

I installed these over a month ago in the front of my 2000 Ford Focus ZX3. The installation was smooth and easy. The sound was great lots of clear mid and high end without distortion at higher levels. I ended up buying duct insulation and insulating my doors, this almost doubled the bass and increased the sound quality quite a bit. Over all these are great speakers. Now for the bad (for some people). The bass is lacking. Without a sub I can hardly tell whether a bass is playing or the drum is kicking. if you dont care about hearing the full range get these, but I'd highly recommend finding another way to fill in the low end.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love these speakers, the highs and low tones are soo clear. I'm very happy with my product. Crutchfield sent the package quickly and I replaced my factory speakers as soon as it came. I would buy more if it would effect the sound but it is already crystal clear and almost too loud.

What terrific sound!!!!!

Written by: Jeffrey from Glen Allen, VA on October 26, 2008

I put these in my wifes Nissan Quest van after my kids blew out the stock speakers and I don't know why I waited so long. These 6x8 Pioneer speakers have the greatest sound and really have a nice kick from the bass. I also added 4" Alpines to the rear and the van sounds "GREAT." My kids love the sound and my wife can drive in peace now. Thanks Crutchfield, not only for another happy customer but an entire happy family. Elvis was a wonderful helper with all my questions. Thats why I buy from Crutchfield!

TS-A6882R 4-Way Pioneer Speakers

Written by: Marc from Tampa, FL on September 3, 2008

1997 Ford Thunderbird
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had used Pioneer's previous 3-way & 4-way speakers in other cars, and these did not disappoint in any way on the new car either. Compared to the stock single-cone speakers, they were worlds better, demuddling the sound coming from the stock stereo enough that I questioned whether I should proceed with the stereo upgrade as well (speakers went in first & got tested on the old stereo to verify proper operation/wiring). Frequency response chart listed on the box is very accurate (wish Crutchfield would post these!) -- they have a bit of weakness below 45 Hz, then are almost linearly flat clean through the very top-end of the frequency range where they start to peter out again, but both of these issues can be addressed with minor tweaks of the bass & treble or EQ settings on most stereos if your music even hits those frequencies. Special Notes: - These sounded better being driven by the stock Ford stereo & by Pioneer's own stereo offerings than they did being driven by the JVC KD-HDR30 (although the JVC has marginally more power RMS, the tones just aren't as rich & vibrant, esp off the same FM sources). - The speakers also sound better when installed in the rear deck facing a slanted rear window of most cars than they do buried in speaker surrounds in the doors or rear side panels (the reflection off the glass casting the sound forward gives it a much better ambiance).

Features

Woofers: Each speaker features carbon graphite IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) cone woofers interlaced with long Aramid fibers. This IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity powerful bass sound requires. The high-density, compressed internal architecture is resilient, stacks up against high power and transfers sound very quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound.

Surrounds: For durability and a smoother response, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Midranges: Each speaker uses a 1-1/2" balanced dome midrange with laminated polyester fiber which is 30% lighter than conventional materials. That difference in weight means faster and more accurate response, for exceptionally clean, detailed music. Each midrange also features a magnetic fluid and a neodymium magnet.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1/2" silver PET film soft dome tweeter and a 3/8" silver PET film soft dome super-tweeter for crisp, clear highs.

Custom Fit: The 6x8" speaker's frame features two additional mounting holes which allows the speaker to fit in 5x7" openings of select Ford and Mazda vehicles.
