Overview

Our take on the Pioneer TS-A6962R

Haven't listened to much music in your car recently? Maybe your factory speakers are on their last legs. Pioneer's A-Series speakers deliver great-sounding music on the road — you may find yourself relaxing in your car rather than your living room after you hear these speakers in action.

Haven't listened to much music in your car recently? Maybe your factory speakers are on their last legs. Pioneer's A-Series speakers deliver great-sounding music on the road — you may find yourself relaxing in your car rather than your living room after you hear these speakers in action.

The TS-A6962R 6"x9" speakers feature polypropylene woofers reinforced with Aramid fibers so they'll handle the stress of high-volume playback. Butyl rubber surrounds stand up to the wear and tear, so the bass stays tight and clear for years to come.

Cone midrange drivers add vibrance and clarity to the vocals and instrumentals. You'll hear everything from the stroke of the violin to the chimes of the percussion as soft dome tweeters disperse sparkling highs. Install a pair of TS-A6962R speakers in your car and impress your friends with concert-quality tunes.

These sound pretty good in my 2001 Bonneville. I think they distort with my stereo just a little too soon, but they still sound better than my old stock speakers. They fit perfect in my car, just like Crutchfield said they would, and would probably buy them again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I Just installed these speakers on the front rear cross beam after mounting them in the QL cabinets. The speakers are being driven by an MDX70 Dual deck. Other speakers in the van are Two infinity 4X6 in the dash and one BTA6100 bazooka sub. The Pioneers really do fill in the mid range for me. Outstanding sound all the way arround for all types of music from rock to Jazz. Many thanks to the gang at Crutchfied for the technical support and speaker recomendations !!! Great professional service !!!! thanks again, Dick

Excellent! I replaced the speakers in my wifes 2000 Accord Coupe (also did the door spearkers ) and it sounds worlds better than before. Enough bass to make the windows rattle and it gets plenty loud. I have an Alpine 9487 deck which works perfectly with these speakers.

The sound quality is not as good as the factory speakers that where in my car before. Also the factory rear deck speaker covers that you are told you can reuse is true but it takes some really good enginering to get them to go back on.

Great speakers for a moderate price

My rear deck speakers in my wifes 1997 Camry were broken, so I thought I'd take a chance on these, as their specs looked good and my jvc hd head unit with surround sound needed four speakers to really show its stuff. These sound as good as I've heard in a car and I don't need to add a sub woofer as these go low enough for me and my wife. Toyota speakers are fairly good quality, but these put the old toyota speakers to shame. It feels like I'm in the middle of the music, much like you feel in a movie theater. You can crank these up without distortion (at least as much as I can tolerate without ear damage) and I hear more of the music than I did with the old speakers. I highly recommend these.

2002 Chevrolet Cavalier
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to replace the factory one in my son's 2002 Cavalier. When we bought the car one of the speakers was not working. I knew even with the factory receiver, replacing the rear speakers would be a great way to cheaply upgrade the sound system. And it was! The bass is clean and enough to rattle the car. I can't speak for other cars, but when I removed the old speakers and sat them beside these Pioneer speakers it actually made me laugh. The factory 6 X 9s were paper and the magnet was about 1/4 the size of these Pioneers. Following the included step by step instructions made installing these speakers a breeze. My son's car stereo system was literally transformed for less than $100.00. Another Crutchfield success story!

Great Sound

Written by: itsamecameron from Sioux Falls, SD on June 21, 2008

Wired these to a 170 watt amp in the rear deck of my 07 Fusion, They fill in the mids and highs nicely, however i still prefer a sub to fill out the lower tones. Ran em today for about 2 hours straight and the speakers did not distort once even under high volume. If you are looking for a good all around speaker for a decent price these will fit the bill.

Cons:

Great speaker and bass.

Written by: Anonymous from Minnesota on June 15, 2008

The speakers sound great for only $80. I get enough bass to rattle the rear view mirror, and to give the back passengers a nice massage. Obviously its not the same bass as 300 watt subs, but if your short on money and want just nice sounding music with a bit of a kick. These speakers will do it.

1988 Ford LTD Crown
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the stock rear deck speakers in my 88 Crown Victoria with these. Installation was very easy. The low end response from these things is great! Its almost like a little sub! The high frequency range is a bit fake sounding, but I mainly want bass out of the rear deck speakers. I get my good high end response from the speakers in the dash (Alpine SPS-800). I use a Pioneer DEH-1800 receiver.

Bangin' Bass for Low Cost

Written by: Geoffrey from Fairmont, WV on May 29, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers for the rear deck of my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. The original speakers were pretty much gone with periodic buzzing and not much music coming out of them. It took me about 3 hours to install these speakers because you have to completely remove the back seat to get to the speakers. Wow was it worth it! I have the factory radio in the car, and the speakers just bump the bass and perform very well with the windows down, even on the interstate (you can still hear the music and feel it too). Pioneer's products are exceptional and their prices are just right. Great product, great support, great prices. I don't know how many times I've purchased from Crutchfield, but I'll be back again.

Great Speakers!

Written by: fpdsniper from Quad Cities, Illinois on May 26, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a pair of these to put in my '07 Dodge Ram Quad Cab. Installing these speakers was very easy, but I will give you a tip. Mount them with the tweeter in the down position in the front doors. Otherwise, your window will snag the wires when rolled down and disconnect them. Also, take the plastic spacer off the factory speakers, and clip them on the new ones. Very easy 15 second process that makes mounting the speakers very easy. The increased sound quality with the stock head unit is huge. I can now hear the symbols that I couldn't before, and the entire sound range is greatly increased. I will eventually replace the stock head unit, but for now these speakers really do the trick for a big sound quality improvement for a small price. Anyone can install these in a truck like mine. Took me about 20 minutes! :)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these speakers in the rear deck of my car, they sound great. They completely changed the sound. These speakers hit the mids, high, and lows well, with a crisp sound. They bring out every detail, such as the cymbals, drums, and every sound that normal speakers don't bring out. I have them installed with matching 6 1/2 pioneer 3-way speakers and a pioneer sub, and the whole system sounds great. If you are looking for a new 6 X 9 speaker, these are the way to go.

2003 Honda Accord LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My first car had two sets of pioneer speakers so when I recently purchased my '03 Accord---I started here. For whatever reason, the stock rear speakers weren't very good (at all!) So I researched a small upgrade. These speakers fit the bill. The car's stock radio seems to put out more than enough power and my stock front speakers are fine. Adding these speakers really up'ed the over all sound quality. I did my research and have these had the best sensitivity and frequency response for the price range. I'm sure higher-end (and more expensive) speakers would sound better---but for me the Pioneer's are working great!

Fits 98 Acura TL

Written by: Anthony from White plains, MD on September 28, 2007

I know the crutchfield site says these will not fit a 98 Acura 3.2TL, but they fit perfectly wih no modification. It took a couple of days for these bad boys to get going, but now, the sound awesome. definately can't beat them for the price. I now have a totally different sound and at a fraction of the cost. Thanks crutchfield.

Another great deal

Written by: Randy from Minneapolis, MN on July 30, 2007

In installed these in the front doors and rear deck of my 2006 Dodge Stratus. My system also includes Infinity Reference 3012cf 3-1/2" speakers in the dash--along with a Sony CDX-GT310 CD Receiver, a Sony CDX-757MX 10-disc CD/MP3 Changer and Sirius Radio.

The sound of these full-range speakers is outstanding. They can really thump on the bass, but also do well with mids and highs. A setup that includes an amp and a more high-powered system would probably need something more powerful. But for a standard setup, these put out high-quality sound at a fair price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am the proud owner of a 07 mitisushibi Galant! I did not get the Rockford Fosgate system, because I did not want leather seats in Texas! The system in the car sounds good. It had tweeters in the dash and 6.25 in the door. The weak point was the 6x9's in the back, just mud! The brought the clarity and punch that the rear needed. This may be the only mod I make to the system but it is worth the money, these are good speakers!
Features

Woofers: Each speaker features carbon graphite IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) cone woofers interlaced with long Aramid fibers. This IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity powerful bass sound requires. The high-density, compressed internal architecture is resilient, stacks up against high power and transfers sound very quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound.

Surrounds: For durability and a smoother response, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Midranges: Each speaker has a 2-1/4" PET silver film cone midrange for fast, accurate response with low distortion. The midrange has a 1.3 ounce strontium magnet.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 5/8" PET silver film dome tweeter for crisp, clear highs.
