Pioneer's 4-way TS-A6981R 6"x9" car speakers have a couple of great things going for them — great sound and great style. The aggressively-styled grilles will make a statement in a custom install, while the crisp, clean sound will make your music sparkle.

This 4-way design offers a woofer cone made from rugged injection-molded polypropylene, reinforced with Aramid fibers, and supported by a rubber surround. This strong material belts out the bass without distorting the low tones. The mids project with energy, thanks to the polyester fiber semi-dome driver. To add the all-important top-end details, the TS-A6981R sports a silver film cone tweeter and a silver film dome supertweeter that'll make the highs shine.

The high efficiency of the TS-A6981R ensures that you'll enjoy robust sound, even with a low-powered system. But hook them up to an amp, or a powerful in-dash receiver, and make your system really wail!

Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Amazing Speakers for the Money

Written By Jan, Upstate, New York on Tuesday, April 25, 2006

These speakers are definitally worth the money. I bought them around christmas time and had to wait for a cd player to put them in. They max 420 with rms of 80 and i have 17 watts runnin through them currently. They make my trunk lid go crazy! My mom hates the booming bass that i like. When i put these 6x9's in, my gutters and living room were rattling. Definitally need a decent powered amp so you can feed the right amount of power to them. They will put some 8 inch subs to shame, some 10's too! Definitally worth the buy!

Very good for the price.

I don't know how anyone could expect more for the price. They're very clearly not the best speakers you can buy, but judging by the products I've auditioned they certainly sound better than their peers, most of which sound far too bright -- which is a bad combination with the lifeless, artificial, shallow sound characteristics typical of cheap speakers. These Pioneers, by contrast, manage to sound perfectly fine for the price: again, not the best, but very good for the money.

They're fairly warm sounding speakers: not too bright, and definitely lacking in clarity and crispness. But they have a perfectly reasonable frequency response -- a little weak on the high end, perhaps, but somehow not muffled-sounding, which is a BIG plus. Bass response is good. Midrange is present and fairly articulate. My favorite thing about them is that even though they're not the nicest speakers I've heard, they're very inoffensive to listen to, even for long periods of time at high levels.

That's a great balance for a relatively cheap pair of speakers: you don't have the open, clear, full, articulate, detailed sound of more expensive speakers, but you get a good frequency range and a speaker that will play loud without killing your ears. That makes these speakers perfect for rear fill. At this price, they could also be excellent main speakers if you're on a budget because they'll play well and sound good with a wide variety of setups.

These speakers are awesome. I have them powered by an audiofonics amp (200watts RMS x 2) and these little badboys can definitely kickass.Much better than Sony and a few other expensive brands.I give pioneer 5 out of 5 on all their products.

Product Research

Woofers: Each speaker features an interlaced dual Aramid fiber-reinforced IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) cone woofer. With long Aramid fibers interlacing together inside, this IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity powerful bass sound requires. The high-density, compressed internal architecture is resilient, stacks up against high power and transfers sound very quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound.

Surrounds: For durability and a smoother response, each woofer uses a butyl rubber surround.

Midranges: Each speaker has a 2-1/4" laminated polyester fiber balanced-dome midrange for fast, accurate response with low distortion.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1-1/2" PET silver film cone tweeter and a 3/4" PET silver film dome supertweeter for crisp, clear highs.
