Pioneer TS-D1002R

A solid upgrade

Car audio enthusiasts know that replacing your factory speakers is the first step towards better sound. Pioneer's TS-D1002 4" speakers sport innovative technologies and materials that'll put your car's sound miles ahead of where it was.

The journey begins with the innovative woofer — a high-tech composite material made from basalt and Aramid creates a rigid, lightweight cone. This design supplies solid midbass punch with exceptional midrange definition, while its rubber surround ensures smooth cone excursion.

The soft-dome tweeter radiates impressive highs, aided by a special wave guide that improves off-axis performance — meaning you'll get better stereo imaging throughout your car. A sealed rear chamber allows the tweeter to reach lower into the midrange to improve the definition of vocals and instruments. The tweeter's compact and powerful neodymium magnet provides excellent performance even when the power levels are cranked.

Speakers look like good quality; however more thorough door panel removal instructions/tools would be helpful.

These speakers are a great replacement for the stock speakers. I can here a much wider range of frequencies compared with the stock speakers. The highs are crisper and I can actually hear low notes as well. I am powering them using the stock radio cassette deck. For anyone concerned about the bass response, just go for larger speakers. A 4" speaker can only move so much air. That being said, I can hear many more low notes that were not present when listening with the factory speakers.

Pros: Great sound; much better than stock

Cons:

In door speakers

While they may be limited in both size and RMS, these little speakers made my truck sound great paired with a new Pioneer headunit.

Pros: Small Fit stock location

Cons: none so far

Good Stock Replacement

2003 Jeep Wrangler
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put these speakers in to replace the OEM dash speakers on a 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon which were starting to sound a little raspy. They are a solid replacement, very easy to install, and as always, the adapters and instructions from Crutchfield were outstanding. If you are looking for a good replacement for the original speakers, these work very well, and are a slight improvement in my mind. They are not going to give you a ton of bass (they are 4" speakers!), but the sound quality is solid and crisp.

Pros: Easy to install, sound clarity, cost

Cons: Not much bass

Decent for high and mid range

2001 Volkswagen Eurovan
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered these speakers to replace the 10 year old speakers in my Eurovan. They are clearer and crisper, but the base is lacking. Dialing up base and loudness on the stereo helps some, but the speakers start distorting before the sound becomes satisfying. I ordered a compact subwoofer to fill out the sound. $200 I didn't intend to spend, but should make the listening experience much more satisfying.

Pros: crisp, clean sound

Cons: lacks base

Good little speakers!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers provide good sound output. Bass output is limited, but that was expected as they're very small in size. Perfect for my application - 1998 Jeep Wrangler front speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a 4 inch set of speakers for the rear end of my FJ Cruiser. I was expecting these to sound good but not this good. These speakers really helped fill out the sound in the truck and are well worth the money.

Pros: Sounder very nice, easy to install.

Cons:

Sound good

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Paired these with the Pioneer TS-A1305C and Pioneer receiver. Good overall sound. Of course could use a sub but fine without. Fit in rear of my 2000 Silverado 1500 but needed more hardware than came with adapters.

Pros:

Cons: needs better adapters

Great sound and awesome value

Linus F from Hoboken, NJ on 4/11/2012

I installed these in my 2002 Porsche 996 Cabriolet as a direct replacement for the dash and rear factory speakers. I considered the Focal 100CA but the Focals mounted too deep for the rears. The Pioneers are a steal at this price and their performance is terrific.

Pros: Price, build, sound

Cons: Metal basket vs. glass reinforced plastic.

Very good quality. They went in the dash on my 2000 Jeep Wrangler and I can definitely notice a major improvement along with my Pioneer HU while driving on the highway with no top or doors. Very crisp and clear, especially on the highs

Pros:

Cons:

Strong performance

Fit neatly in rear door panels of my 95 Volvo 850 wagon. Adapters worked as advertised and the sound is far superior to the "premium" sound system from the factory.

very good mid-bass/mids and good strong highs too. although i would definitely recommend getting a set of bass blockers (i wish i had) for these because they really break down in the low notes. great sounding (and pretty nice looking if you don't use the grills) speakers. definitely worth the money. i was putting 22W RMS through these from a Kenwood KDCHD545U if anybody would like to know.

Features

Dual-Layer IMX Aramid/Basalt Fiber Composite Cone: The Pioneer D-Series speaker features Dual-layer IMX (Injection-molded Matrix) aramid/basalt fiber composite cone woofers. Used in the surface layer, this Aramid/Basalt Fiber material is highly rigid and better absorbent, enhancing stability and maintaining integrity throughout a wide temperature range. The woofers also have butyl rubber surrounds for a smoother response, heat resistant voice coil, and 5.3-ounce Strontium magnets.

Rear Chamber Tweeter Enclosure: The Pioneer D-Series speakers feature an exclusive rear chamber tweeter enclosure. This design extends mid-range frequency for improved vocal imaging and staging. The TS-D1002R's 3/4" soft dome tweeters also utilizes wave guides to control sound dispersion to make sound stage wider in the car. In addition, the tweeter uses a magnetic fluid neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.

Grilles: The speakers come with black steel mesh grilles with silver heat-proof resin frames.

Removable Tabs: The speaker mounting tabs are scored so that they can be removed if necessary to mount the speakers in 4T installations.
