Pioneer TS-D1302R

Improve your ride with Pioneer

Car audio enthusiasts know that replacing your factory speakers is the first step towards better sound. Pioneer's TS-D1302R 2-way 5-1/4" speakers sport innovative technologies and materials that'll put your car's sound miles ahead of where it was.

The journey begins with the innovative woofer — a high-tech composite material made from basalt and Aramid creates a rigid, lightweight cone. This design supplies solid midbass punch with exceptional midrange definition, while its rubber surround ensures smooth cone excursion.

The soft-dome tweeter radiates impressive highs, aided by a special wave guide that improves off-axis performance — meaning you'll get better stereo imaging in more locations throughout your car. A sealed rear chamber allows the tweeter to reach lower into the midrange to improve the definition of vocals and instruments. The tweeter's compact and powerful neodymium magnet provides excellent performance even when the power levels are cranked.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-way car speakers for 5-1/4" locations (pair)
  • Aramid/basalt fiber composite woofer with rubber surround
  • 3/4" soft dome tweeter
  • frequency response: 35-40,000 Hz
  • recommended power range: 2-35 watts RMS
  • peak power handling: 180 watts
  • sensitivity: 88 dB
  • depth: 2-1/4"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Replacement speaker for front doors on my 94' Montero.

Pros: Cost vs sound was better than expected. Rich Bass, clear highs.

Cons: Had to drill new mounting holes in my existing spacer. No big deal. Quick and easy.

Great Easy Upgrade to Factory Speakers

2010 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Pioneer two-way speakers to replace factory speakers in a 2010 Subaru Forester. I had previously replaced the factory radio with a Kenwood receiver from Crutchfield. The install was fast and easy with the mounting kit, cables and instructions from Crutchfield. My wife and I replaced both the front and rear door speakers in less than 4 hours. Sound quality improvement is awesome. Should have done the upgrade sooner!

Pros: Specific instructions for model and year of vehicle and complete kit including mounting adaptor and cables included with speakers at no extra cost. Great sound.

Cons: None

Not a great upgrade for Harley Davidson.

I ordered these along with a new Kenwood Head unit to replace the stock system on my 2013 Street Glide. The speakers performed much better than stock but not as well as I had hoped. I learned that the 6-3/4" version Will Fit with an adapter and installed those. The larger version sound a bit better with just the Kenwood head unit powering them and I look forward to hearing them with an amp I'll be installing shortly. For such a small price increase, I have to recommend the 6-3/4" over the 5-1/4" if they will fit your application. The 5-1/4" are a fine upgrade if it is your only option. FYI: Crutchfield says the larger speakers will not fit my bike but they will with the adapter they themselves supply. Double check internet forums and online videos to be sure that the larger speakers will not work as a larger speaker is almost always better! I hope this helps!

Pros: Small, good fit for tight spaces

Cons: Small, bigger is better

Crutchfield response on April 28, 2015 Eddie, thanks for taking the time to leave this review. Our database shows the 6-3/4" speakers as being about a quarter inch too deep to fit. But since you didn't have any problem with them, we're sending your review to our research team so they can take another look. We'll update our database accordingly.

I have a pair of these along with a pair of the 6 1/2" size of the Pioneer D-Series. I have them powered with the 1,200 Watt Pioneer digital amp in my 2011 Honda Civic. The improvement these speakers made over the stock ones is amazing. My music is so clear now that I sometimes don't realize how loud it is until I realize I cannot hear talking right next to me. The amp I have is capable of driving 100 Watts per channel, so I have the gain set lower for this pair (the front) than I do for the rear. Once the gain was set correctly, these speakers really sing!

Pros: -Great sound quality - Great power handling

Cons: -Nothing

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these on the advice of a Crutchfield rep to replace the speakers in the rear shelf of an Alfa Romeo Spider along with installing a new Alpine CDE 143bt tuner to drive them. I have always appreciated the quality of Pioneer products and it turned out to be a good match for the Alpine unit.

Sound quality of the Pioneer D1302R speakers is precise throughout the range with no distortion at higher volumes for such a small speaker. I wish I could have added a second pair in the front, door-mounted speaker locations but had to go with inferior, shallow-mount 5.25" speakers there. These Pioneers provide a crisp response in the higher ranges and compensate for the weak bass response of the front speakers when the fader, balance and base response is adjusted to suit the small, noisy cabin of the Alfa, and I am pleased with the overall sound quality. The included metal grills are tough enough to work in a location that gets some banging around by parcels occasionally placed on the rear shelf and look OK.

Pros: Durable design, high quality, linear sound from a 5.25" co-axial speaker.

Cons: None noted.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent product, really enhanced the sound on my Jeep Wrangler.

Pros: Easy to install. Excellent sound. Clear and crisp sound.

Cons: Didn't really need the spacers included and the speaker covers wouldn't work at all. Instructions were so-so, but it was pretty basic, so figuring it out wasn't hard.

2006 GMC Sierra 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent factory replacement speaker, crisp sound, adequate base and treble. I put these speakers in the front doors of my '06 GMC pick-up. Installation was a bit of a challange since the instructions were only generic and not specific to my vehicle, plus I had to make a slight modification for proper fit. If you take your time, it's not rocket science...

Cons: Generic instructions were no help.

Dual-Layer IMX Aramid/Basalt Fiber Composite Cone: The Pioneer D-Series speaker features Dual-layer IMX (Injection-molded Matrix) aramid/basalt fiber composite cone woofers. Used in the surface layer, this Aramid/Basalt Fiber material is highly rigid and better absorbent, enhancing stability and maintaining integrity throughout a wide temperature range. The woofers also have butyl rubber surrounds for a smoother response, heat resistant voice coil, and 10-ounce Strontium magnets.

Rear Chamber Tweeter Enclosure: The Pioneer D-Series speakers feature an exclusive rear chamber tweeter enclosure. This design extends mid-range frequency for improved vocal imaging and staging. The TS-D1302R's 3/4" soft dome tweeters also utilizes wave guides to control sound dispersion to make sound stage wider in the car. In addition, the tweeter uses a magnetic fluid neodymium magnet for higher efficiency.

Grilles: The speakers come with black steel mesh grilles with silver heat-proof resin frames.

Mounting: The speaker features a standard 5.25", 4-hole mounting pattern.
