Pioneers continue to put out great sound

Written By Andy, Creston, IA on Friday, November 25, 2005

I bought these to replace the stock speakers in the dash of my car. They are definitely good speakers, and are able to handle loud music without distortion. My only complaint is that these speakers produce no noticeable amount of bass. Granted, these speakers are made for the front of the car, and they are supposed to produce mostly high frequencies. If you want the booming bass, these speakers aren't for you. If you are looking for factory speaker upgrades that can handle loud volumes, then I'd go with these.

They're awesome speakers for what they're made to do!

I bought some of these speakers for my car, and they sound great! No matter what 4" speakers you buy, they will have poor base- because thats what they are. If you're looking for good base with your speakers, then don't get 4" speakers! Get some 6x9's, an 8" sub, or if your really big into it, then go for a 10 or 12". These speakers arent made for base, but if you're looking for a speaker for your highs, then these speakers are awesome! i've got mine hooked up to an amp with a high-pass filter, and they sound excellent! no distortion, and they can get loud! Great speakers!

Can't beat 'em!

I bought these when I upgraded the entire system in my Toyota Pickup. I was extremely pleased when I heard these speakers do their stuff. Before I was running a pair of Clarion paper woofer's with tweeter and these blew them out of the way. I was suprised at the amount of bass the speakers can also take before they start making those flat thump hits. They get loud with minimal distortion (which is only noticeable if you have no rear speakers to back them up). I'm very happy with them and would definately buy them again. I'd even recommend them for someone to put as their rear speakers too if they didn't want a big system. You won't be disappointed.

They might be nice... if they FIT

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

To be honest, I haven't even heard the speakers in action because I haven't been able to install them. I bought them for my 1994 BMW 325i and they were too small for the rear deck (about 1/16th - 2/16th of an inch all the way around the speaker is left unsealed to the mounting pod), even though this site offered them as a "fit" for my car. To crutchfield's credit, they DID send me some sort of abs plastic 'gridplates' (free of charge) that can be used to fashion adaptors to make the speakers fit... which would have been enough had they not also tried to make excuses by stating that the site says they fit because they are a "close" fit. Well all I have to say is that it was not CLOSE enough. Trying to make these fit seems like too much trouble to me; I would have never bought the speakers if I knew they were not going to fit without jumping through a bunch of hoops.
Just to reiterate:
1. ALWAYS call and double check to make sure the speakers you're buying will ACTUALLY fit the car you plan to use them in, and not just be the best "closest fit"; and
2. thse speakers do NOT fit 1992-1998 BMW 3 Series!!!

P.S. those abs plastic gridplates are nearly impossible to cut to the right size. It's like trying to cut through a 3inch steel plate with a swiss army knife. Thanks anyway. You're lucky your customer service is so good.

Might be good speakers if you have a subwoofer

Written By JoshM, Sachse, TX on Wednesday, October 05, 2005

I just bought these speakers and installation was easy in my 94 Toyota Corolla Sedan DX. So far I have only installed the front driver door unit, but I will probably be replacing it with something else. The new speaker does not sound as good as my stock speakers. I had read other reviews where people said that it has NO BASS and I thought they were just wanting thumping bass, but these really have NO BASS at all, any resemblance of bass is horribly distorted. I'm not too terribly descerning when it comes to sound, but I am amazed that these actually are worse than the basic stock 12 year old Toyota units. At this point I am regretting buying these. If you have a system with a subwoofer, you may get enough bass from that and not need bass in a 4" unit.

Good speakers

These speakers you can't go wrong with for the money, they are mounted in the front of my car and they are much better than the factory speakers I had. I recommend these to people who are looking to replace their front speakers.

Very good for parcel shelf

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I discovered that I had to make adapters to fit these in the back of my 1993 BMW 325is. Quarter inch plywood worked pretty well. I also had to make the BMW plug a bit smaller to fit the small lug on the Pioneers. A squeeze with the pliers did the trick. The Pioneers sound infinitely better than the totally sun-bleached Nokias that were installed in the factory 12 years ago. The bass is tight, and the highs are clear. The snap-off tabs make installation pretty easy, and the results are pleasing.

Best front speakers I ever bought.

I bought these speakers when I used to have a 90 Pontiac Grand Am. The speakers replaced the front speakers, man where they awesome. Best speakers that I ever bought for that particular size. I just recently installed them in my 93 Corolla and they still rock!

Pioneer TS-G1040R

Written By roco, Rolla, MO on Sunday, March 20, 2005

I bought a set of these Pioneers for my 1990 Corsica. They went into the dash with little work. The hardest part was taking off the speaker grill because of being scared that I would crack my dash. Anyway they sound real crisp with real clear sound. They are a hundred times better than my stock ones. There perfect for being little highs.
