Our take on the Pioneer TS-G1340R

by Ken Nail
Pioneer

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Pioneer's bold and blue TS-G1340R 5-1/4" speakers lay down great sounds when you crank 'em up! These affordably-priced Pioneers feature beefy IMPP composite woofers that belt out satisfyingly full bass. Warm and clear high-frequency response is a given, thanks to the metal film cone tweeters.

The combination of great sound and solid power handling makes these speakers a fine choice when you're ready to ditch the worn-out factory speakers in your ride.

Features

Injection-molded Polypropylene (IMPP) Composite Woofers: Each composite woofer is constructed from injection-molded polypropylene. This process of cone molding assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. In addition, the cones are lightweight and rigid for decreased distortion and superior bass response.

Treated Cloth Surrounds: Each woofer uses a treated cloth surround for improved durability.

1-3/8" PET Silver Film Cone Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1-3/8" PET silver film cone tweeter for crisp, clear highs.

Smart Purchase

Written By Greg Starr, Virginia Beach, VA on Monday, October 03, 2005
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These 5 1/4 two-way speakers give good sound and value for their size. These speakers are relatively small so don't expect big sound to come out of them, as does come out of 6 x 9 inch speakers, but for their size and price these speakers perform very satisfactorly.

Tinny, cold sound

Written By Scott, Cleveland, OH on Monday, September 12, 2005
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were excessively tinny, even for their size. For the price, they are OK, but at any sort of volume, they distorted very much.

The lower midrange was virtually nonexistent. The highs, because of the distortion, were somewhat irritating at volume. I like a mellow and warm speaker; this was neither.

I ended up returning them for a larger, more expensive Pioneer speaker.

Great Product, For The Price

Written By Marvin Jiron, Raleigh, NC on Saturday, August 20, 2005

I just installed the Pioneer TS-G1340R, and it was great for the price. Very easy to install, fits perfectly in my Toyota Corolla. If you do crank up the volume to the MAX, it won't sound as clear, but if you are looking for an affordable speaker system, this the one to buy. If you like to listen to loud music all the time, these aren't for you, but if your looking for great sound and for a good price, get these, overall great for the price.

Excellent Replacement Speakers

Written By TG, NJ on Monday, August 15, 2005
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just wanted to share my experience with ordering from Crutchfield. Everything was PERFECT. The included speaker mounting brackets fit EXACTLY and Crutchfield could not make it any easier with the included wiring connectors. I did not have to solder anything. I just connected the provided wires and everything worked perfectly. The speaker quality is very good. These speakers were installed in the front doors of my 1998 GMC Jimmy, as a replacement for the factory speakers. The fit was perfect, the speakers sound very good and I could not be happier with my purchase. Thanks Crutchfield. I will definately order again!

Pioneer TS-G1340R

Written By SUMAN, Princeton, NJ on Saturday, August 06, 2005
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are an excellent value for money. I replaced my OEM speakers from my 92 Civic and what a difference. The midrange sound quality is superb, tweeter is bright. However, bass response is sub par. Anything below 80Hz create distortion but that is understandable from such a small and cheap speaker.

Better than Stock

Written By TJ, Milwaukee on Friday, July 01, 2005
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my rear deck and they carry a good sound, they were what I was looking for- a good mid quality speaker. For the money they defiantly out perform my stock speakers and are worth the investment.

Pioneer TS-G1340R

Written By joe, PA on Thursday, March 10, 2005
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the money that i spent on them they are an acceptable replacement. The only problem i see is if you are looking for some extremely loud music these are not for you. They are loud but at a good volume they play phenomanal lows and crisp highs.

Okay replacement speaker

Written By John, Bucks Co., PA on Wednesday, February 23, 2005
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It has a great sound quality inspite of it's low price. However, the response is horrible. You need to really crank it to hear it.

An inexpensive, adequate speaker

Written By GaS, Jersey Shore, PA on Wednesday, February 16, 2005

I put these in the front door of my 2005 Corolla S (reused the stock speaker as a bracket to fit a 6 1/2" in instead of using a Crutchfield bracket and a 5 1/4" speaker.

These are more than adequate speakers for those not wanting to go the component route. The bass is not paticularly impressive, but these are a very good midrange speaker. I can't judge their high freq other than it complements the stock tweeter. The low door placement isn't the best, but these are more than adequate.

They look pretty decent too.

These speakers are very clear. They shoot out the highs and blast the lows. They fit very well. Quality you can expect from Pioneer. Highly Recommended
