Not a Solid Replacement for Longterm

Written by: Tom from Leon Valley, TX on January 14, 2006

Linked to my Profile AP740, I tested these Pioneers for replacement over my 1995 Jetta GLX's stock door speakers.

The Pioneers had little to no bass and rather than pumping and pounding sound out they popped a fair share of highs and mids. Barely a decent speaker-for-price if linked to a receiver, but even linked to the pureness of the amp it struggles to handle mid/lows and any loudness at higher volumes without the hard cone and surround constantly producing an un*POP*ular sound.

Better then factory

I have these in my 01 nissan altima. I put them in my rear deck. The speakers are a good deal for the price. I wouldnt pay more than that for them. Spend a little more for better speakers. Good step up from factory but i will definatly replace them soon.

2000 Nissan Xterra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced factory speakers in 2000 Xterra...the rears were 6x9 but the included adapter brackets work nice. The units are slightly better than the original Panasonics...using Rockford Fosgate 100W tuner, it's adequate. I'll have to add an amp/sub combo for real bass, but for a replacement, they are nice choices. I love Crutchfield.

Put a set off these in a 2000 Chev Venture in the front doors. Way better than the paper factory units. Good mids and highs, ok bass. Good factory replacement speaker for the money. The adapters sent by crutchfield fit perfect very easy install

2001 Dodge Dakota
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have an '01 Dakota Club Cab with the factory Infinity system. A few weeks ago my left front speaker began buzzing. After inspecting it I found the foam surround had detoriated. I immediately began shopping for speakers, but in the mean time, I took some black silicone RTV sealant and repaired the blown speaker.

I found these Pioneers here at a great price; not to mention all the mounting and installation harward Crutchfield provides at no cost! UPS Ground had them here in about 3 business day for $11.

After modifying the included mounts and installing a new Pioneer in place of the paper Infinity, I turned on the stereo to test and compare. The factory Infinitys have a MUCH better bass response and seem clearer throughout. The Pioneer has a smaller magnet and shorter throw.

I would not recommend these speakers to anyone replacing the factory Infinity system in you Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep. Even with my RTV ilicone repair, the older paper cone Infinitys sound MUCH better than these Pioneers.

Thanks to Crutchfield for their awesome customer support and return policy. In less than 5 minutes my order was ready for return with shipping paid by Crutchfield. My total cost was $11 for the initial shipping.

Thanks,
LM in TX

I have these hooked up to an Alpine CDA9825, and they don't sound all that great. They aren't awful, but they aren't much of an improvement over the stock speakers in my '00 Honda civic. Spend a couple dollars more and you can do much better.

Good speakers for the money. Not as good as my old 6" by 9" speakers. The speakers do great job with what I want. True I have a 93 Toyota Corolla and not a 90 Pontiac Grand Am. If I want more bass I could always either by a speaker box or a subwoofer or exchange for different speakers. But Crutchfield has a customer for life. Thank-you

1992 Pontiac Firebird
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these to replace the 13 yr old stockers in my '92 T/A convertible. These not only fit the stock openings well, but sound great as well. The tweeters are a bit harsh, but not awful, and the mid range and bass come through very well, with much more bass that I expected. I used these with a Pioneer Superetuner IIID, so I expect that had something to do with how well they sound. If you're looking for audiophile-quality sound, (there's a term I bet not many remember) these aren't perfect, but they DO work well. It's all in what you expect, and how well you match the componenets. Overall, I'd rate them a 4 out of 5.

Good for low/moderate wattage heads

Written by: Daniel from Austin, TX on June 21, 2005

I bought these to replace the factory speakers in my '96 Integra because they were cheap and they matched the RMS wattage on my Sony head unit. Although the tweeters are a little harsh sounding, the woofers actually put out more bass than the Pioneer Rev speakers I tried before. I think this is because my Sony stereo put out 23W per channel, and since the wattage rating was lower on these Pioneer speakers (30W RMS), they put out more bass than the higher-wattage Rev speakers (60W RMS). As for the tweeters, the Rev's blew the Pioneers out of the water, but the bass was much weaker (they were more power-hungry). If only I could find a lower wattage speaker with better components. That would be ideal.

2003 Honda Insight
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2003 Honda Insight that only has 2 speakers in the entire care. So I swapped out the factory Cassette deck with a Pioneer CD player. I also swapped the Factory speakers with theese. I was impressed with the highs and mids but the low tones just sounded distorted at any volume. I am ordering the Infinity Refrence 6012 as they are reccommended to correct this problem for my vehicle. Your Milage may vary

1992 Honda Civic
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the stock speakers in my '92 civic hatchback with these, and I think they sound perfectly fine. I mean don't expect these to sound like a subwoofer or a really nice amped component system or something. I don't understand why people are saying they have no bass, I could only think of the head unit, or they just are expecting a lot more than I am. My friend has the same head unit as me, and the comparable Kenwood KFC-1669S and they sound almost exactly the same, so for the price I think they are great.

Lame Speakers

Written by: Dan-o from Nashville TN on May 27, 2005

These speakers are not worth the time it takes to install them. My dry rotted stock speakers in my '96 Maxima handled the lows better than these shiney blue things.
Highs and Mids are well defined but I'd get better lows out of hooking the speaker wires up to a sealed paper lunch bag.
I know this size speaker is limited with low frequency response but gee-whiz, don't even claim to have lows if you can't produce them.

Pay a bit more and I bet you'll be much more satisfied.

I recently put a pair of these in my 1990 Mazda MX6. They're not going to wow a stereo enthusiast, but they did clean up the highs and mids in comparison to the factory speakers. The bass line "pops" at regular listening levels, so you may have to turn the bass down on the EQ. If you're on a budget, and don't need anything fancy, these will do fine.

I own and drive a 1998 Ford Escord and I installed these in the front doors. The mids and highs of the speakers where far better than that of the factory but when it comes to bass, these little things are horrible. My stocks out did the bass on these. Im guessing this is why pioneer arent exactly known for there speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just put these Pioneers in my 02 Mitsu Galant and I can't handle having no BASS. These speakers give out great mids & highs, but no BASS. I saw the specs on these speakers and for the price theses seemed great, but like I said before, no bass. One great thing though about purchasing from Crutchfield is the 30 Day return policy. I will be sending these back!

1993 Toyota Corolla
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers, Pioneer makes the best speakers for the price. Great bass & crisp treble! These are great speakers for the buck, I replaced the rear speakers of my 93 Corolla DX & they fit perfectly in the factory slot. The only problem I had was the factory connector was too short and the replacement Crutchfeild sent was too large to fit, a simple modification made it fit perfectly, highly reccomend these speakers!

Features

Injection-molded Polypropylene (IMPP) Composite Woofers: Each composite woofer is constructed from injection-molded polypropylene. This process of cone molding assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. In addition, the cones are lightweight and rigid for decreased distortion and superior bass response.

Treated Cloth Surrounds: Each woofer uses a treated cloth surround for improved durability.

1-1/2" PET Silver Film Cone Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1-1/2" PET silver film cone tweeter for crisp, clear highs.

Mounting: The speakers can be top-mounted in a 6-1/2" opening, or, using the four mounting tabs, the speakers can be top-mounted in a 6-3/4" opening.
