Our take on the Pioneer TS-G4640R

Pioneer's bold and blue TS-G4640R 4"x6" speakers lay down great sounds when you crank 'em up! These affordably-priced Pioneers feature beefy IMPP composite woofers that belt out satisfyingly full bass. Warm and clear high-frequency response is a given, thanks to the film cone tweeters. These speakers are versatile, too — they'll work equally well in regular and metric 4"x6" applications.

The combination of great sound and solid power handling makes these speakers a fine choice when you're ready to ditch the worn-out factory speakers in your ride. Grilles are not included. (Factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.)

Features

Injection-molded Polypropylene (IMPP) Composite Woofers: Each composite woofer is constructed from injection-molded polypropylene. This process of cone molding assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. In addition, the cones are lightweight and rigid for decreased distortion and superior bass response.

Treated Cloth Surrounds: Each woofer uses a treated cloth surround for improved durability.

1-3/8" PET Silver Film Cone Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1-3/8" PET silver film cone tweeter for crisp, clear highs.

Mounting: The speakers can be top-mounted in a metric 4"x6" opening, or, using the supplied adapter rings, the speakers can be top-mounted in a U.S. standard 4"x6" opening.

Great speakers!!

Written By Luke, NY on Saturday, January 21, 2006

I bought these for the front of my '90 Lumina and after listening to my old torn paper cones I am impressed! I usually don't turn speakers up until a few hours after listening to let the surround/spider parts(suspension) loosen up. You won't get the most bass by blaring them from the start. People are expecting bass from these like subwoofer quality when its just not gonna happen. These are small speakers. Anyway, I have a Sony head with 23 watts RMS and Audiobahn 6x9s in the rear. I have 4 12" subs(2 MTX 4500s and 2 Audiobahn AW121T) being powered by a Jensen 720 watt and a Sony 1200 watt amp. So as you can see I didn't reallt need these for bass. I have been listening to different speakers over the past few years and I have to say that these Pioneers are some of the best I've ever tried! When I turn the bass down a few clicks, I can turn my Sony head unit up to around 28/34 (volume) and these don't distort!!!

Pioneer TS-G4640R

I bought these from a car audio store, and installed them myself, i have a 1995 pontiac Grand Am, they said that they didnt fit into the car, funny mine fit perfectly in the speaker mount, but to the speakers, i love them they give great highs and high-mids, but if i didnt have 2 MTX RT5500's in the trunk i dont think that they could handel the bass, but i have a high pass fillter on them so, they are great little speakers and cheap to, if your only after the high and high-mid range, you really need a good pair of 6x9's and subs to really apreciate these speakers

Not durable

Written By john, Kansas City on Wednesday, July 20, 2005

I installed these speakers in my silverado. After time I heard some rattling. I thougt it might be installation, but the speaker had come apart. The outer ring was detached. The product used to adhere the material to the frame was not working. I now have a useless speaker, that has a vibrating noise.(woofer not attached) Time for new speakers!!!

there 4 X 6s, not subwoofers

Written By Mike, Mendham, NJ on Friday, July 08, 2005

Pioneer is a great brand and these speakers are no different. And the high and mid tone are amazing and crystal clear. U cannot expect bass from these because they are just too small to make any. But in a complete system with a sub these can't be beat.

91 S-10 Standed Cab

Written By Mike, Monroe, WI on Wednesday, July 06, 2005

they're better than stock. they have a tiny thump to them but ur other speakers will need to provide bass. If u paired them w/ Kenwood 4x10s and a pair 10" MTX Road Thunders subs in the back they do the job of the high end

Pioneer TS-G4640R

Bought these speakers to replace my blown stock ones in my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am coupe. They are nothing amazing. But for the price they are ok. They don't put out much bass.

Clear, but that's all!

Written By david, Scottsdale, Arizona on Tuesday, May 31, 2005

I installed these in my Chevy Silverado. Installation went quick once I juggled the plate and speaker to mark the holes to drill. The sound however leaves something to be desired. I was expecting more bass. Not like a subwoofer can deliver or even 6x9's, but at least some bass. There is none. What I wasn't expecting was the flapping noise I heard when I turned up the bass control. Wow! I should have ordered some bass blockers. At first I thought they just couldn't handle any power, then I realized they can't handle any bass...none. The overall sound is clear and as long as you don't push them with more than 15 clean watts they should fill out the upper mid range. What do you want for $50.00 anyway.
