When you're the master and commander of your boat, you know how important it is to keep the crew happy. Head off possible mutinies by keeping the tunes crankin' with these great-sounding Pioneer Nautica speakers! Pioneer's TS-MR1640 speakers are built specifically for the tough marine environment, so you can count on dependable performance onboard your craft.

The TS-MR1640's 6-1/2" IMPP woofer cones are bonded to weather- and water-resistant rubber surrounds. With a low-end frequency response down to 30 Hz, they're masters at providing full, deep lows. The PEI tweeters will give you bright highs that will command your attention even when fighting against the sound of the waves, wind, and engine noise.

These speakers are designed for your nautical applications, with corrosion-resistant mounting hardware and gold-plated tinsel leads and speaker terminals.

Features

UV- and Water-Resistant: These marine speakers feature UV- and water-resistant white grilles, composite speaker baskets, injection-molded polypropylene cones, rubber woofer surrounds, PEI semi-dome tweeters, and stainless steel mounting hardware.

Injection-molded Polypropylene (IMPP) Woofers: Each woofer is constructed from injection-molded polypropylene. This process of cone molding assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. In addition, the cones are lightweight and rigid for decreased distortion and superior bass response. For a smoother response and increased durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.

Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1" PEI semi-dome tweeter. PEI (Poly-Ether Imide) is a polymer that has ideal sound characteristics, making it perfect for use as a tweeter. A PEI semi-dome tweeter produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

Q
Are these sold in black? Perhaps under a different model number?

A
At this time, there is no other color offered on marine grade speakers from Pioneer. I do have other brands that do offer black grilles. Feel free to contact an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss options

The Metra Female quick slides are great for attaching speaker wire to the terminals of the speakers: www.crutchfield.com/p_120FQS10PK/item.html

Just wondering if you could put these in a regular car or truck??? Will they sound loader than any original car speakers??? Do u need a marine radio or could u use any after market head unit???

Yes, you could install these easily in a car or truck. They will work just fine with OEM or aftermarket head units. Whether or not they will be louder or more clear than your OEM automotive speakers depends a lot on what quality of speakers your vehicle came with. They would sound louder and better than the OEM speakers in my wife's Honda for sure and they are LOTS better than the OEMs in our RV, but I'm not sure they would beat the JBL speakers that came in my truck, but they would give 'em a good run.

First of all, you do not need to have a Marine stereo to use these speakers. They do however may require a slightly larger opening than your current speakers, but not much. And your vehicle door structure most likely allows this increase in speaker size because I merely needed to make the opening 1inch in diameter larger to accommodate them. Meaning that I had to cut the opening a half inch bigger around the outside. This being said, I found that the increased clarity especially at high volume was amazingly impressive. I did of course add a powered subwoofer to get a wonderful balance of bass and clarity that is sometimes difficult to achieve. Because I used my new set up in a boat, I chose to add a marine subwoofer with a built-in amp but most auto setups have a separate amp and subwoofer. I would recommend strict adherence to your type of music and listening volume. Personally, I like many types of music and want to hear clarity in the highs, strong mids and just enough thump to add quality to the sound. Remember, destroying music is not cool or satisfying. Research, Research, Research!!!!!! You don't need to spend a lot of money. Start with the speakers you are cosidering, then add mid range powered by a small to medium sized amplifier, then add some, but not too much sub powered by an adjustable output amp. Because, trust me, you will want to turn the bass down. "Listen to your music, feel the meaning, and then add a balanced amount of bass"

Yes you can put these speakers in any car or truck. They do sound better then my original speakers that were in my boat, and any receiver will work with these speakers. Good Luck to you

Will these fit a hewes 18ft redfisher center console Flats boat w previous 6 1/2" speakers already mounted on either side of the console?

A
I have my speakers mounted on the outside of my trailer. I would think it depends on how wide your center console is. The specs for those speakers should be here on this page.

More than likely they will. I used them to replace speakers on my Hewes Maverick and they fit fine. Other brands 6 1/2" would not fit. It really depends on original brand size. Trial and error with ability to return is your best shot.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Pioneer TSMR164 will fit nicely in place of the Kenwood speakers. Everything will be an easy replacement. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

I ran into a similar problem, the hole also was too shallow, l used aluminum plate and cut out a ring over sized ,fastened the speaker to the ring and the ring to the surrounding hole and painted the speaker grill to match. It worked for my application.

Hey Jesse, The best thing I can tell you is dremel the holes out a little larger with a cutting bit. It really doesn't take that long. Good luck.
