A shallow-mount sub that rocks

Pioneer's TS Series shallow-mount subs bring great bass to vehicles where conventional subs won't fit. Their low profile allows the use of slender enclosures that'll fit behind a truck seat or any tight space while delivering the bass performance you need. The TS-SW2002D2 8" shallow-mount sub handles up to 150 watts RMS with a mounting depth of just 2-5/8".

Mica-injected molded resin cone

The TS-SW2002D2 features an oversized cone made of mica-injected molded resin that moves more air and delivers accurate bass. The dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire the sub for 1- or 4-ohm impedance. The sub works best in a small sealed enclosure, making it ideal for those tight spaces in today's smaller vehicles. Pioneer recommends their UD-SW200D downfiring shallow subwoofer enclosure for use with this sub.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 120 and 225 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

I have the factory alpine system but i wanted more depth to my bass...i pulled out the factory alpine sub and dropped this one. Even the grill holes line up perfectly to the factory box. I can feel more depth to bass in songs...but more importantly i can hear clarity in the bass now. This sub will not win any bass competitions but it wasn't made for that..this is a decent sub for small enclosures...make sure to use polyfill! Be prepared to splice and sodder your wires to connect this! If you have the right tools then this will take 15min!

I love this speaker. I replaced a stock Harmon Kardon 8" with this in a 325ic BMW. It is mounted in the factory ski pass box, and is free air. The speaker claims 600 watts max, 150 RMS. I am running it with an ancient Jensen 100watt (50 rms) amp and it sounds amazing. Even though it is a free air system, the bass hits hard, and I cannot imagine how loud it would be with three times the power. With the roof up, the bass is almost too much and I have to turn it down. With the top down, there is certainly less bass, but you still feel it in the car and its very clean. I wish I would have done this upgrade years ago.

Pros: Great build quality and brand name. Sounds amazing even at 30% the rated watts. Low profile is a key factor for me, as I could not fit a Kicker or deeper speaker.

Cons: Even though its an 8", the lip was about .25 inch wider that my old speaker. It comes with a plastic decorative ring that add another .25 inch, so I could not use the pretty ring. Kinda pricey compare to other 8" woofers, but I feel it was worth it.

Solid 8" sub, great lows without being too much. Easily fits into the stock sub location in my 2013 Jeep but ended up using in the Pioneer enclosure since it sounded cleaner. Hooked up to a 350watt 2 ohm amp which is perfect. Plenty of low for a 8inch sub, complements the Polk components and coaxial previously installed.

Pros: Quality, installation

Cons: none

Sounds great.

I put this sub in my 2007 Civic Si sedan. I used the free-air application and installed it in the rear deck. Boy was I disappointed. It was marginally better than the stock system with 50% of my music selections and worse the rest of the time. The rear deck rattled most of the time so I had to keep turning the sub down. I took a chance and ordered the enclosure made for this sub, the $59 Pioneer UD-SW200D. What a pleasant surprise - blown away by the performance of the sub now! I am very pleased with the overall sound. The enclosure isn't much larger than a shoe box but it puts out solid, clean bass. This setup is made for the listeners in the car - so it won't attract much attention from those outside the vehicle. I am using a Kicker 11DX600.5 amp.

Pros: Compact and space saving. Excellent bass.

Cons: None.

Features

Shallow Mount Woofer: Pioneer's Shallow-Mount subwoofers are designed to provide installation options for a broad range of vehicles. They can be mounted behind or under the seats of many vehicles. The TS-SW2002D2 has a Mica reinforced IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) composite cone. The process of bonding reinforced pulp to the back of the cone improves its damping capability and eliminates excess vibration.

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features two 2-ohm voice coils that offer wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Terminals: The spring post terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Sealed Box Volume: Sealed is the preferred enclosure type for theTS-SW2002D2. The sealed box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.15 ft³ to 0.5 ft³; with 0.5 ft³ being the ideal size.

Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.25ft³ to 0.5 ft³; within this range the ideal size is 0.5 ft³ with a single 3" diameter x 10" long port.

Bandpass Box Volume: The bandpass box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.25 ft³ per chamber to 0.4 ft³ per chamber; within this range the ideal size is 0.4 ft³ per chamber. One 3" diameter x 6.5" long port should be used in an enclosure with 0.4 ft³ chambers.

Infinite-Baffle Operation: The woofer is also optimized for infinite-baffle operation (free-air) so that it can be installed in a variety of locations, including factory woofer applications, without the need for a dedicated enclosure.
