About the Pioneer TS-SW2002D2

Bob Bihlmayer

A shallow-mount sub that rocks

Pioneer's TS Series shallow-mount subs bring great bass to vehicles where conventional subs won't fit. Their low profile allows the use of slender enclosures that'll fit behind a truck seat or any tight space while delivering the bass performance you need. The TS-SW2002D2 8" shallow-mount sub handles up to 150 watts RMS with a mounting depth of just 2-5/8".

Mica-injected molded resin cone

The TS-SW2002D2 features an oversized cone made of mica-injected molded resin that moves more air and delivers accurate bass. The dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire the sub for 1- or 4-ohm impedance. The sub works best in a small sealed enclosure, making it ideal for those tight spaces in today's smaller vehicles. Pioneer recommends their UD-SW200D downfiring shallow subwoofer enclosure for use with this sub.

Product Research

Features

Shallow Mount Woofer: Pioneer's Shallow-Mount subwoofers are designed to provide installation options for a broad range of vehicles. They can be mounted behind or under the seats of many vehicles. The TS-SW2002D2 has a Mica reinforced IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) composite cone. The process of bonding reinforced pulp to the back of the cone improves its damping capability and eliminates excess vibration.

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features two 2-ohm voice coils that offer wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Terminals: The spring post terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Sealed Box Volume: Sealed is the preferred enclosure type for theTS-SW2002D2. The sealed box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.15 ft³ to 0.5 ft³; with 0.5 ft³ being the ideal size.

Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.25ft³ to 0.5 ft³; within this range the ideal size is 0.5 ft³ with a single 3" diameter x 10" long port.

Bandpass Box Volume: The bandpass box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.25 ft³ per chamber to 0.4 ft³ per chamber; within this range the ideal size is 0.4 ft³ per chamber. One 3" diameter x 6.5" long port should be used in an enclosure with 0.4 ft³ chambers.

Infinite-Baffle Operation: The woofer is also optimized for infinite-baffle operation (free-air) so that it can be installed in a variety of locations, including factory woofer applications, without the need for a dedicated enclosure.

I'd say Bill and Jorge are just about right! I don't have the weight of the subwoofer itself, but I do know the gross weight with shipping box and all is 6lbs, 3oz. I figure around 1-1.5lbs of that is the packaging weight.

I returned these, & decided on Kicker Pt250 10 Subwoofer with Built-in 100w Amplifier by Kicker. Awesome bass response, takes up minimal space in the trunk, & doesn't use any of your primary amplifier's power. If you can return your pioneer 8" ts-sw2002d2 & get the Kicker, you will not be disappointed!

Q
Can this sub handle 200w RMS?
bryan  Jul 04, 2017
3 answers
A
IMO, that would be pushing it too hard. With peaks the figure will be higher and it's possible this driver will be damaged. Spec's suggest 150w RMS max but they do not make the distinction if it is per voice coil or overall. In my application it's being pushed by the factory amp in a RAM 1500 w Alpine and it is configured for DVC operation but let's face it, is not that powerful. Hope this helps.

Q
Will this sub fit in the stock sub location in 2009 Chevy HHR with factory Pioneer system?
ian  Oct 16, 2016
2 answers
A
While the stock woofer is a standard 8" size, the available mounting space in the stock location (mounting depth, magnet diameter) is too restrictive for an aftermarket model to fit. This Pioneer is shallow enough but the magnet diameter is too wide for it to seat properly into the stock mount. The wheel well gets in the way. While I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, I hope the information helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Q
I will be trying to get these in the doors of my 2016 mazda cx5. The factory bose system has "9 inch" woofers running in the doors. Really more like an 8. Factory system is putting 44 watts to each woofer @1ohm. Is 44 watts enough for these speakers? Or will I be better off running them off my jl amp?. It's a 4channel that I can bridge to give each woofer 150 watts @4ohm.

I have mine running on an old Jensen amp with 50 watts RMS to each channel to it in a factory open air enclosure between the rear seat and the trunk in a 94 BWW 325 convertible. It hits hard and sounds terrific, but wont vibrate the car or be obnoxious loud at the stop light. Super deep base it does need a little more power, but is very clean on rock and alternative. Honestly, I love how it sounds, but prob will move up to 100 watts rms to each or bridge it and take it down to 1 ohm. My current amp just wont go that low. My vote for you is run it off the jl amp. Its a great speaker and I think the power will be good for it.
brian  Oct 04, 2016
A
I personally wouldn't recommend powering them off the factory system. I don't think you will be satisfied with their output. Do it right the first time and run them off your amp. You will be glad you did

wayne  Oct 04, 2016

Definitely use the amp. I initially ran mine off my factory system to replace the factory infinity sub. It worked, but it was underpowered.

"Will this fit in a 2012 honda civic ex coupe rear center deck? If not what realistically will?" Yes, per the research we have on file for the '12 Civic EX Coupe, the Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 will fit. There are modifications that would need to be made to the stock cutout in order for this (or any other aftermarket model) sub to fit correctly though. For more details on that, you can reach out to an Expert Advisor via the "Contact Us" link at the top of our website. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159
