Your favorite song is playing, you pull up at a stoplight, and pretty soon you've got the urge to launch an all-out drum solo on your dash — we've all been there. Maybe your drum set is imaginary, but you want the bass in your ride to be real as it gets. And that's where Pioneer's Champion Series subs come in.
Large cone for bigger bass
The TS-W309D4 12" subwoofer features a seamless, injection-molded polypropylene cone that's about 14% larger than last year's model for extended bass response. The oversized, glossy cone features the classic Pioneer logo underscored with eye-catching red script, giving this sub the unmistakable mark of a Champion. A double layered elastic polymer surround supports the woofer during cone excursion so you'll get hard-hitting bass.
Dual voice coils
The dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire the sub for 2- or 8-ohm impedance, so you get the wiring flexibility you need when you add more Champion Series subs in the future. A solidly built motor assembly uses a double magnet design to drive the cone hard for accurate, soul-shaking beats. So the next time you pick up those invisible drum sticks, you'll have this sub to back you up with loads of energetic, dynamic bass.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.
Pioneer TS-W309D4 Reviews
Average Customer Review:
Ease of Use
honestly, i was very impressed with these subs. I sold my JL audio 12w3's and i loved those, the clarity was amazing and i ended upp wanting something with more power.... and on a budget. Ive always loved pioneer so i figured id try these.. man, these things slam. i threw them on an infinity amp and wired them at 2 ohms. first time i saw windshield flex in a jeep. could be the box i have but wow they handle flawlessly. buy this sub, you wont be dissapointed.
Pros: clarity, response, everything
Cons: for the price, none
Boom for the buck
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Ease of Use
I recently got this sub broken in, and I'm constantly impressed by how it preforms. I have it wired down to 2 ohms in a Sound Ordinance 1.27 ft^3 sealed box, powering it with a Kenwood amp that pushes 500W RMS at 2 ohms. included is a roll of self-adhesive foam tape that is used to keep the sub from resonating out of synch with the box, giving a distorted tone. Don't do like I did and accidentally apply it to the wrong surface. I had to pick up some similar stuff from a home improvement warehouse due to the necessity of this one simple piece. This is the first audio upgrade I did to my Trailblazer LT, so my OEM componants and head unit are still up front. However, this one simple addition made me rethink my plan to replace the head unit soon. I may just put it off a bit, I like the sound that much how it is.
Pros: Powerful enough for my personal needs, made using high quality materials, affordable, and versitile.
Cons: Instructions lack many written words. Mostly diagrams and black/white photos to follow. Not a huge deal, but if you're considering this sub, make sure you're comfortable with reviewing the instructions two or three times until you completely understand how the installation process is supposed to go.
Ease of Use
Good subwoofer in a 1.25 cft box driven by a 500w rms sony amp
Pros: Pioneer quality
Cons: Dont like added plastic to back of sub, looks good but serves no purpose
pioneer is the best. take from a veteran.
Ease of Use
i've sampled everything since i was 14 years old and come to the conglution that pioneer makes the best subwoofers, etc. these are amazing. dont buy anything else.
Pros: greatest base from the people with decades of experience who take it very serious

Woofer: The Pioneer Champion series TS-W309S4 features a seamless IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) composite cone woofer. The surface area is approximately 14% larger than last year's model for louder and higher quality bass reproduction. This process of cone molding assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. The cone is lightweight and rigid for low distortion and superior bass response.
Surround: The surround is made of dual-layer, fiber reinforced elastic polymer.
Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4Ω voice coils. The two sets of spring compression binding post terminals are side-by-side for easy wiring. Each post will accept a pin connector, a single banana plug, or bare wire up to 10 gauge. The two voice coils can be wired in series to present an 8Ω load or in parallel to present a 2Ω load. Additionally, each coil can be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4Ω load.
Double-stacked Magnet: The TS-W309S4 uses Double-stacked High Energy magnets to create a powerful magnetic force. This increases the control exerted over the voice coil and the power transferred to the cone.
Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.85 ft³ to 1.75 ft³; within this range the ideal size is 1.25 ft³.
Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 1.25 ft³ to 2.0 ft³; within this range the ideal size is 1.5 ft³. The ideal port size is 3" diameter x 5" long with a 1.5 ft³ enclosure.
Single Reflex Bandpass Volume: The bandpass box sizes recommended by Pioneer range from 0.7 ft³ per chamber to 1.1 ft³ per chamber; within this range the ideal size is 0.9 ft³ per chamber. One 3" diameter x 4.5" long port should be used in an enclosure with 0.9 ft³ chambers.
Power Handling: The woofer has two 4Ω voice coils; each coil can handle up to 200 watts RMS (400 watts total).
