Overview

Our take on the Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD

Pioneer integrates smartphones into your driving experience with Advanced App Mode, which allows you to launch and control compatible iPhone apps from the face of your receiver, putting a variety of music, navigation, and social media apps at your command. You'll appreciate the safety and convenience when you're behind the wheel of your car, and more and more compatible apps are coming your way  — you'll need Pioneer's CD-IU201S cable and you can see the latest compatible apps here.

Step up to multimedia in your car

You don't need to play movies in your car to enjoy having a DVD receiver in your dash (though it IS a pretty cool feature). Pioneer's DVD receivers set the bar for multi-faceted functionality, and the AVH-X1500DVD leads off their feature-rich lineup. This versatile receiver sports a 6.1" screen with intuitive touchscreen controls that allow you to make changes by tapping, swiping, or dragging your finger, along with user-friendly menus that you can customize to your liking.
Thanks to WVGA technology, Pioneer's DVD receivers boast twice the resolution of most multimedia receivers, meaning you'll have a clearer, sharper picture when you're watching videos or taking charge from the touchscreen. And you'll also find plenty of ways to play back your music, compatibility with many popular mobile apps, and a display that'll knock your socks off.

Advanced App Mode

Pioneer integrates smartphones into your driving experience with Advanced App Mode, which allows you to launch and control compatible iPhone apps from the face of your receiver, putting a variety of music, navigation, and social media apps at your command. Video playback and a rocking-cool touchscreen display

The 6.1" LCD screen on this Pioneer plays DVDs in bright, clear detail when you're parked. You can also send a movie from the receiver to a rear-seat screen — your passengers will thank you during those long trips. And with Pioneer's CD-IU201S cable, you'll be able to view video content from your iPod® or IPhone® too (video playback requires CD-IV202AV cable kit and other adapters with iPhone 5). And of course you can plug in a rear-view camera to play it safe in crowded parking lots.
You'll also find some cool touchscreen features — Pioneer's Touch Slide technology gives you real fingertip control over many functions. Want a new EQ curve? Just draw it on the screen with your finger and you've got it. And you can browse video files through thumbnail images — just touch them to check out a sneak preview.

MIXTRAX will liven up your time on the road. This feature creates a DJ-like experience with content from your iPod, iPhone, or Android™, with special effects between songs and variable-color lighting that pulses with the beat of your music. You can even tailor the receiver's appearance to your taste by choosing from five display colors and 112 key panel illumination options.

AppRadioLIVE makes it easy

Pioneer's innovative AppRadioLIVE streamlines your app info and functions into one easy-to-use interface. You'll enjoy quick access to your music, media, calendar, and other sources you subscribe to, just by downloading the AppRadioLIVE app and syncing your services. AppRadioLIVE works with your apps to provide visual map guidance and access to points of interest, as well as the ability to search for concerts, shows, and other local events of interest. And you can show several sources of information simultaneously, quickly shifting from one to another with a touch of your finger.

Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD

Touchscreen controls make it easy to select sources.

Media at your command

You can play just about anything on this Pioneer, including your CDs, discs full of MP3 or WMA music, or USB storage devices loaded with files. When you connect your iPod to the USB input, you'll be able to use the receiver's controls to access your playlists. Handy tools like Alphabet Search and Link Search to make it easier to find the song you want fast.

You can also play music files from many Android™ phones when your Android is plugged into the rear USB port — see the "Details" tab for more info on device compatibility. If you're a fan of streaming Internet radio, connect your iPhone to the receiver with Pioneer's CD-IU201S cable and take charge of your Pandora® account from the touchscreen, complete with thumbs-up and thumbs-down controls.

Great sound matters

The receiver's powerful built-in amplifier delivers the goods, with crisp sound at all volume settings, while the 8-band equalizer offers plenty of ways to tweak the output. Three pairs of preamp outputs make it easier to connect external amps, and this receiver offers an auto-equalization feature to tune your system (microphone required).

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Pioneer stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Pioneer, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Love the player. Great with pandora. A little difficult to get DvD to bypass the stupid parking brake saftey switch. But all in all a very good payer with great EQ adjustments and sub output. Dont like the fact that the usb input comes out the back so you have to run a cable behind the dash instead of being able to just plug in the front. I have this and the jenson flip out dvd in my wifes car. the screen quality and resolution is awesome with this player 100% better quality than the Jenson.

Pros: great picture, wide range of eq control, great sound

Cons: usb port in the back(this is just a personal thing),hard to bypass brake switch

its not a bad item for the money. the install was pretty straight forward. I've been using the Pioneer brand for over 14 years and still lasts the test of time. Still disappointed that this unit will not work with a Android Fone. ive tried everything that I can think of and as much research as I could as well.. If your looking to use the Bluetooth function or a Android, move onto another system. other than that good sound and functionality for the money.

Pros: the sound quality is great and ease of installation. pretty much straight and to the point. added a Sub to this and was easy install. System configuration not too complicated.

Cons: no Bluetooth... ONLY for IPHONES, not android ( unless you have an old Android that wasn't updated from Jellybean)

    2010 Honda Fit Sport
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my very first time dipping my feet into the world of car audio modding. I have a 2010 Honda Fit and the head unit on it was itching to be replaced(non navi). As a full-time student on a budget, I needed something that was affordable yet suitable enough to keep while adding on to(sub/amp/speakers). Saw great reviews and ratings and I loved the way it looked compared to others in its price range so I decided to get one in my hands. Crutchfield is amazing with sending everything you need for the installation. I was a little iffy doing wiring because it was only my second time doing wiring but everything worked the first time! Installation was a breeze with everything that Crutchfield provided. As for the sound quality, it's a world of a difference compared to stock, with the 8-band EQ and all the other features available in this inexpensive little unit. Only reason why I have 4 stars on build quality is because I'm so accustomed to my iPhones touchscreen that I felt the Pioneer could have been better but it's still great nevertheless! It's the only thing I could have any negative thoughts about but I can't complain with what I paid for! This head unit is definitely worth a try. :)

Pros: Easy to install, jam-packed with great features, works great with iPhone 5S

    Cons:

    Double Din Upgrade

Bob from Triad, NC on 4/28/2014

    2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had a double din factory stereo that had very few options. This Pioneer was a nice upgrade over that. The iPod / iPhone integration, DVD player, rear camera and pre outs give me a lot of options to work with. I am no audiophile, but am pleased with the product based on the price-point. If you were looking for a nice upgrade from your plain factory stereo this is a nice upgrade. Spend some time in the driveway figuring out what does what related to iPod integration, because it does take a little time to work out the nuances to operation.

Pros: Price. Solid construction. Features available for the price-point. Display, background and theme color changes to match stock interior colors.

Cons: None really.for the price you really can't be that picky, and if you are then go spend $500 on something else.

    Great stereo!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This stereo is super nice for the price! Touch screen is fun, the sound quality is better than my stock stereo and I like the tons of upgrade hookups in the back. Wiring was fairly simple. Plays my Flash drives and phone. Only thing missing is bluetooth tech which can be added on later.

Pros: Great upgrade from 2006 stock cd player. Plays DVDs and Pandora. DJ Mixtrax feature is fun. Changing color buttons rocks, menu functionality is great!

Cons: No blue tooth. Had to buy a usb-1/4" adapter for flash drive and phone integration for $60. I know how to wire but if you don't then expect to get a pro to install for you. The universal parts they give you to install are kind of a pain with tabs you have to cut off with cutters

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome buy, being my first screen reciever. Many color options on the display, you can alter it on a color scale, which allows any color you could imagine honestly. Sound quality was day and night different after the install. (I drive a 2000 Toyota 4runner) I find myself using the remote it comes with because its easier than hitting the voulme button on the actual product. Heck, for the price, its a steal. Looks great, sounds great, what more do you want? Only thing I will say I dont care for; is the fact that you must have the vehicles parking brake applied for the AUX option to work correctly, Im not sure why honestly, and I hate seeing the warning that stays on the screen so I normally just turn the display off. My buddy saw mine, and installed one in his Toyota Supra also.

Pros: Upgrades the look of your interior. Sounds amazing. Plenty of options.

Cons: Must be in park for the DVD to play or the AUX to show cover art.

You have to download special apps that are comparable with this system which kinda sucks because you need to learn how to use them. 2001 Ford Mustang
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted a touchscreen stereo and this was the perfect one for me. It made my interior look nicer than the stock Mach 460 stereo in my Mustang. It's easy to use and I can use and control pandora and a few other other apps through it as long as my phone is plugged in. The only downside is that the aux is in the back as well as the USB. But I actually ran the wires underneath my center console and made a custom home for them in the console. So you don't see my wires flying everywhere. I just didn't want to spend and extra 100 dollars to get the Bluetooth because I'm already spending a lot on speakers and amps.

Pros: Awesome product Looks great Great price Easy to use Installation is a breeze

    Cons: Not Bluetooth

    2002 Volkswagen Passat
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio to replace the factory radio in my 2002 VW Passat W8. Crutchfield did not have my exact car in their list, so initially, the fit was not correct. I had to modify the interior part of my factory harness to fit the in dash kit and the radio. The radio also does not come with a screen protector when shipped out. Not that this was a problem, just very odd. The user interface is very easy to handle, although it was difficult to discern how to turn the radio on and off (you have to turn the source off and then the display so you don't drain your battery). Overall, good quality for the price.

Pros: - Ease of use - Crisp Display - Customizable - Ipod control through radio

Cons: - No power button - Buttons are kind of small - Sun makes the display difficult to see - Laggy compatibility with the steering wheel controls

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great stereo, first time putting in a custom stereo and was really easy in my RX8. The sound quaility increased tri-fold. It feels and sounds like I have an amp and sub (which i do not) and the settings and themes settings are really great. I still have to look over all the features but was static when I got it all hooked up and it started playing.

Pros: Good price for the quality Easy to put in Customization options are great Touch screen is wonderful (not seeing any lag like most are saying they are encountering)

Cons: It did not come with the screw for the rear bracket or what ever the technical name is called Hard time managing the wires to get it to fit properly (only in my RX8) Wish it had more detailed instructions

Well, bought this for my wifes car for her birthday. Got it installed last night and it was very straight forward and simple. Thanks to Crutchfield for the dash dis assembly instructions, made life so much easier. I didnt get into all the audio settings as it sounded very good on just the stock "powerful" setting. Maybe later on we will play around with the graphic EQ settings, but for now, it sounds 10x better than her stock stereo. The touchscreen is simple to use and clear to read.

Pros: Clear sound even from stock speakers Easy installation Not overly difficult to use once you learn the menus a little bit

Cons: USB is on the back, but has an extension cord to run it elsewhere Requires a special cord sold separate to operate iPhone

I am on the fence about this product. I think the only part that I really take a liking to is the fact the screen is a double-din. I dont think it was worth the cost to me.

Pros: USB input, DOUBLE DIN SCREEN

Cons: not a lot of audio settings, cant play a music video unless the car is in park, set up more for an IPHONE or IPOD not an Android phone, USB is in the back, delay in touch screen buttons, have to touch the button PERFECTLY square on for it to register. No bluetooth, dont like the MIXTRAX

Installed it into a 96 GMC was a custom install, Works great and give's a nice look, and great price compared to what you can spend on a double din dvd player, and Crutchfield customer service is next to none...great place and if you ever run into a bind with this just give them a ring they can answer any questions you will have...But if your looking for a decent CD/DVD player this is the one for you...

Pros: Can change colors of the key's and back ground separately, easy to use keys, remote works great,

Cons: if it's off set from your view the screen get's blurry, but that happens with anything like that i reckon..

Easy to use and sound quality is awesome. I did not think something so small would have the sound and capability that it has.it has multiple colors that I could have chosen from and I can listen to quality sound music in any room in my house without the hassle of turning on my house sound system.it's very easy to clean, and everyone loves it.but most of all we love it.

Pros: it is very easy to carry, it's very easy to handle, and it is very easy and simple to connect to your phone, the bottom line is, it's just simple.

Cons: When playing the speaker in a loud environment, the sound seems to go up and down as if its trying to adjust to its surroundings.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was on the fence about a touch screen head unit, but decided to give this a try when it was on sale. On unboxing, the initial appearance of the unit was sleek, shiny, and well constructed. The unit is well constructed and sturdy. It did not come with a protective film on the screen, but the whole unit was wrapped in foam wrap. The screen is crisp and bright. This unit has plenty of customization options to fit to your wants, such as color of the buttons, background color, background picture, sound settings, graphic EQ, and tons more. I am extremely fond of the sonic sound center option, which makes it easy to adjust your sound center so its almost like listening to headphones rather than a car audio system. The graphic EQ lets you customize every wavelength range individually, and has a couple preset EQ's which sound great. I use this unit to drive 6.5 Pioneer front speakers, 6x9 rear deck Focal IC 690, and 2 Sony Xplod 12" subs. The bass boost and subwoofer settings allow excellent tailoring of bass frequencies and power, and this unit drives my subs better than the Sony Xplod unit that it replaced. The response from the touch screen is a little bit slow, but not enough to be annoying. The forward and back track selection buttons have a delay, so you have to wait a second for the unit to "catch up" after skipping a song. (if you skip a song, you have to wait a second to press the button again) Overall, sounds great, looks great, performs great. Definitely recommend.

Pros: Great look, sturdy construction, extremely customizable, wide EQ customization, great bass power and response, great sound quality, easy installation with many pre-positioned screw holes for mounting, can turn display off so its not too bright at night, display dims when headlights are on**(see cons)

Cons: Delay in touch screen and track seek buttons, steep learning curve when adjusting settings because theres so much to choose from. **Display dims when headlights on can be annoying when headlights are on when its still a little light out, havent found a setting to turn off the dimming yet.

The main reason I purchased a DVD unit was to have a built in looking display for a backup camera,. For this use this unit is perfect. The image for backing up looks just like the high cost factory units on new cars. The USB cable reaches easily to the glove compartment. Put your MP3 files on a flash drive and you won't need CDs or I pods. Don't expect to driver while viewing DVD player. The Pioneer is too smart to allow that dangerous act.

I love how easy it is to get to know this receiver, it works so well and looks great.

Pros: Looks awesome, easy to use, lots of options with display and audio.

Cons: Sometimes freezes and grows an error code when my iPod is hooked up and I'm using the radios interface to select songs or bands.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice unit. I had this installed in my 2009 dodge charger. Very easy to use and I was really impressed that I could use some of my apps on my iPhone with this unit. For the price it's a must have.

Pros: Works with iPhone apps. No need for the seperate navigation if you have navigation on your phone.

Cons: I don't like that you have to be in park with the emergency brake engaged to watch dvd's, videos or photos. I also didn't like that you have to purchase the iPod/iPhone cable to enjoy the full function of the unit.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So far sounds great! Still getting used to the on screen functions and the remote but that is to be expected. Unit fits perfectly in vehicle. Had to order an additional 30 PIN adapter to work with my Iphone 5. Lots of great features and crystal clear sound.

Pros: Wiring harness was easy to install Great sound and features Fits flush in dashboard with no vehicle alterations

Cons: Crutchfeild failed to initially send the mounting kit and the antennea adapter with my order. Tech support, however, quickly resolved this issue. Mounting kit instructions were terrible however once you figure it out the install is simple. (read my review on this mounting kit and it will help you). Or, as always, you can speak to tech support...they are really good. Product specs should be a little more clear on the additional pin adapter for the Iphone 5.

    Great product

Works great, sounds great. Still can't get one apps to work, keeps telling me to put ebrake up and down and up again to allow video, but just freezes at that point. Had to get installation done by pro, mainly because I have a Bose factory and steering wheel control, which required two additional adapters.

    Pros: Great sound, looks sweet!

Cons: Touch screen a little hard to get to work. I shouldn't have to tap the same song same 5 times while driving to get it to play.

    Great product for price!!

Great head unit for the price. Easy to install and very compatible with many dashboards. Only flaw that I dislike is the limited apps that function with the app radio feature. I hope there will be more to come.

Pros: Sound quality, easy install, functionality

Cons: App radio needs more useful apps

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Lots of features, looks well put together. The graphic equalizer is great - super-easy to use. The touch screen has trouble deciding when it's been touched - At first, I wondered if there was a protective layer of plastic installed over it that needed to be removed after installation. Nope. You can't program AM and FM channels into the same radio memory bank - Instead, it forces you to change "bands" before you can tune an FM station while currently listening to an AM station. That's a throwback to the 1930's when radios had mechanical tuners that required physical changes to the internals when changing bands - But it doesn't have any place on a modern radio. Some of the screens don't have a power off button - You have to call up another screen before you can turn the unit off! There is no on-screen volume control slider - which means that you have to repeatedly tap the volume up/down buttons to adjust the volume. Having a touch screen on a receiver - and then not including a slider for the most-often-used control on it - is strange. You have to learn what most of the whizzy little touchscreen icons mean before you can use them. Why is there no user option to instead display buttons that each have their purposes labeled in plain text? Seems like Pioneer spent a lot of time working on fluff ("MIXTRAX", whizzy icons and flashy backgrounds) that'll appeal to kids who put blue headlight bulbs on their Civics, but overlooked some details that would matter to the grownups.

Pros: Lots of features, looks good, solidly built

Cons: User interface has some rough edges, touchscreen is temperamental

    2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the AVH-X1500 in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. This Receiver Looks fantastic! Can you really do better for this price? There are some things in the software that don't logically make sense when you first look at it but after you play with it for a few minutes it all makes sense and it really couldn't be designed much better. Sound Quality is extremely good for the money, it made my stock speakers play much cleaner, louder and crisper and of course louder. The bass boost feature works great (my front door speakers are 6x9's) and almost makes it feel like I now have a very low power sub in my Jeep. Build quality is great and the receiver looks more expensive than it is. There are 2 things about this receiver though: I wish it had a little more processing power to load menus a bit faster, it's no big deal but still it would be nice if it was a bit faster but hey this thing is only this much. The second thing is every time you touch something on the screen/hit a button it beeps and you can't turn the beep off. I have contacted Pioneer and they even told me you can't turn the beep off. I became used to the beep and I actually can't hear it when the volume is turned up to a medium level. If you are thinking about getting this receiver go for it! You won't regret buying it.

Pros: Value, Sound Quality, Looks, 8 Band EQ & Bass Boost

Cons: It could be a little faster when loading menus and responding to taps on the screen, cannot turn off the "confirmation beep"

    Great Value

    2013 Subaru Impreza WRX
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a nice touchscreen head unit on a budget for my 2013 WRX. I originally bought the Pioneer AVH-P1400DVD and really liked it but hated having the usb/iphone cord coming from the front. While this unit isn't expandable to add HD Radio or Satellite Radio, I'm ok with that considering I use my iphone for all my media. The larger and higher resolution screen is absolutely great looking. I find the EQ tuning to be nice and has paired very well with my stock door speakers. I did notice the FM signal is weaker than I'd like, but I don't listen to the radio all that much so its a moot point. At 299.99 you cannot go wrong. It looks great, and if you have an iphone you can buy the cable and use appmode. I highly recommend this unit

    Pros: Value, Looks, Sound

Cons: Not able to expand if need be

    2004 GMC Sierra 1500
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is replacing a Sony AVX-60 I had, that HU was very very slow with iPod controls and I've been wanting to upgrade from it for quite some time. I originally was going to go with the AVH-X4500BT but I couldn't justify spending the extra money when this had almost everything I'd use. I'm, disappointed with the EQ settings as with my Sony I had much more control and options to set the sound just how I liked it., I haven't tried the advanced app mode because that isn't supported with the iPhone 5. Which leads me to some of my biggest complaints about this HU. Can't use the iPhone 5 with the HU without the lighting to 30 pin adapter (my old Sony could connect using the lightning cable just fine) No advanced app mode with the iPhone 5 supported (even with the required cable and adapter) Video/Photos not supported with the iPhone 5 Now, lets get into some things I love about the HU. It's fast, I'm not sure if it's just me coming from a 2 year old HU that was sluggish even on it's best days but the AVH-X1500 is quite responsive and zippy. I love the customization options where you can use your own background image and change the illumination to any color you desire to better match your cars interior lights. It looks quite nice, also I love the ease in which you can add presets to the radio just press and hold your preset button and you're good. All in all this is a solid unit especially for the price but I wish Pioneer had done more research and development into the iPhone 5

Pros: Quick, Quite a bit of features for the price

Cons: iPhone 5 compatibility (or lack there of), not as many EQ options as I'm used to

    Touchscreen Display

6.1" TFT LCD Touchscreen Color Display: The AVH-X1500DVD features a 6.1" TFT Active Matrix, 16:9 widescreen touchscreen display. The resolution of the display is 800 x 480 (RGB), for a total of 1,152,000 pixels. The touchscreen display allows you to control this unit and a connected component such as an iPod/iPhone, or USB mass storage class device. Menus appear on screen for making function choices, audio adjustments, and setting up the system. The unit has a front-loading disc-slot to make loading your disc easier, because there is no panel to slide or fold-down. The fixed touchscreen display is not removable.

Multilingual Display: The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD offers English, Chinese, French, Portuguese, and Spanish text.

Video Adjustments: You can store numerous video settings for each source and the optional rear view camera; including brightness (adjusts the black intensity), contrast (adjusts contrast), color (adjusts color saturation), hue (adjusts the tone of color), and temperature (adjust the color temperature).

Widescreen Modes: You can choose from the following widescreen modes when playing back video:

    • Full: A 4:3 picture is enlarged in the horizontal direction only, enabling you to enjoy a 4:3 picture without any omissions.
    • Zoom: A 4:3 picture is enlarged in the same proportion both vertically and horizontally; ideal for a 16:9 screen.
    • Normal: A 4:3 picture is displayed as it is.

On Screen Display Color & Background Adjustment: The color of the on-screen display can be set to red, amber, green, blue or white. The background can be set to one of four preset still images, a moving image, a stored JPEG image, or turned Off.

Front-Panel Control w/ Custom Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the left edge of the screen. The color of the button illumination can be set to red, amber, green, blue, white, or scan (constantly cycling through the color spectrum). You can also create a custom color to match your vehicle's interior lighting (112 colors to choose from).

Dimmer: To prevent the display from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit.

Parking Brake Interlock: This unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video programming and operating certain controls when the vehicle is in motion. In order to watch video on the in-dash monitor, the vehicle must be parked with the parking brake engaged. The head unit's light green wire must be connected to your vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. The head unit's touchscreen will display "Attention! Viewing of front seat video source while driving is strictly prohibited", if you try to watch a video when your vehicle is in motion.

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double -DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is also an optional double-DIN sleeve (130ADTV133, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to Euro-mount or custom mount the Pioneer head unit in your vehicle. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    AM/FM + Pandora Internet Radio

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID AM/FM tuner features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): BSM lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Pandora App: The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD supports the Pandora App via the Pioneer CD-IU51, CD-IU201V, or CD-IU201S iPod cable (all sold separately). The free Pandora App lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD using your connected Apple iPhone, via the proprietary Pioneer iPod connector cable (sold separately) or the USB/iPod dock cable that came with your iPhone. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone (iOS.3.0+) with the latest version of the Pandora Radio application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account. The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD will provide control over the Pandora music service & display Artist, Album, & Song information; as well as Album art.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • QuickMix: QuickMix allows you to listen to songs played on one or more Pandora stations in your Station List randomly. You will need to edit your QuickMix station selections on the iPhone before connection.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song or artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.
Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Parental Lock: This unit features an 8-level Parental Lock system protected by a user-selected 4-digit password to prevent certain DVD's from being played back on the AVH-X1500DVD.

Off Insert/Eject: A disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback. When you eject a disc, the unit will automatically power off (unless you switch sources before ejecting the disc).

Installation Angle: Optimum disc playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 30-degrees.

    Audio Section

24-Bit/96kHz DAC: For superb quality audio playback from DVDs, CDs, and flash media, the Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD is equipped with a 24-bit/96kHz digital-to-analog converter.

MOSFET50 Internal Amplifier: This receiver is equipped with a 50 watts x 4 (peak) MOSFET amplifier for low distortion, high power output. The amplifier is strong enough to power small subwoofers to moderate volume levels in compact cars and pickups. For higher volume levels from subwoofers, an optional amplifier may be connected to the preamp outputs.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the AVH-X1500DVD are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

EEQ (Easy EQ) w/ 8-Band Graphic EQ: There are seven stored equalizer curves which you can easily recall at any time. You can choose from - Powerful, Natural, Vocal, Super Bass, Flat, Custom 1, or Custom 2. The Custom 1 and Custom 2 EQ modes allow you to manually adjust the level (+/- 12dB) of each band of the head unit's 8-band graphic equalizer (40Hz, 80Hz, 200Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz, and10kHz).

Auto EQ (Optional): The auto-equalizer automatically measures your car's interior acoustic characteristics, and then creates an auto-equalizer curve base on that information. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone (130CDMC20, sold separately) is required to use this function. The Pioneer CD-MC20 Auto-EQ microphone plugs into your compatible Pioneer A/V receiver's rear-panel AUX 3.5mm input. The Auto-EQ microphone should be placed in the center of your vehicle's driver seat headrest facing forward for EQ measurement.

Sonic Center Control: Sound that is suited for the listening position can easily be created with this function. You can adjust sound more toward the listening position left (7) to right (7).

Loudness: The Loudness function compensates for deficiencies in the low- and high-frequency ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness to High, Mid, Low, or Off.

Bass Boost: You can easily boost the subwoofer bass level by using the Bass Boost function. The Bass Boost feature allows you increase the subwoofer level from 0 to +6 (12dB).

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When the Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Advanced Sound Retriever effect.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4 dB to +4 dB.

2V/6CH Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD features three pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading.

Crossovers: The AVH-X1500DVD employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • HPF: The head unit's 12dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

Subwoofer Controls: The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

    AV Connections

Dual AV Inputs: The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD has dual AV inputs to connect two external audio/video sources. The head unit has a rear-panel 3.5mm minijack AV input for connecting a portable audio/video device. There is also a rear-panel composite video/stereo RCA AV input for connecting a video component such as a mobile TV tuner or game console. The rear-panel 3.5mm minijack input also serves as the A/V input for your USB-connected iPod/iPhone (using the proprietary Pioneer cable).

Video Output: The AVH-X1500DVD features a rear-panel composite video output that allows you to connect an external display to the unit. You can play back the same video source which is being played on the head unit. You can select the unit to output a 16:9, Letter-Box or Pan-Scan aspect ratio to match your external display's screen size.

Rear View Camera: The AVH-X1500DVD is equipped with a composite video Rear View Camera input. The unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image (Rear View Camera input jack) when an optional rear camera (130NDBC5, sold separately) is installed. When the transmission is in reverse, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera (the violet/white wire in the AVH-X1500DVD's harness must be connected to the vehicle's reverse lamp circuit for automatic video switching). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.9 seconds. Pioneer recommends using a camera with a mirror image (reversed) output. Audio from your music source will continue playing, while the back-up camera is displayed.

Navigation Ready: The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD allows you to connect the Pioneer AVIC-U250 add-on navigation unit (130AVIC250, sold separately) through its RGB Input. This versatile hideaway unit allows you to switch to navigation mode with the touch of a button. Get to your destination by inputting an address or search through the POI library while enjoying whatever source is currently playing.

Note: If you are already using the head unit's RGB input to access AppRadio Mode from your iPhone, then you cannot connect this add-on navigation module (or vise-versa).

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD includes an IR remote control (CXE5116) for wireless operation of the multimedia head unit and your connected devices.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Hi Cameron - This unit comes with a USB extension that you can run to wherever you want in your car. I put mine in the glove box. All you have to do is plug your iPhone cord into the USB extension and it will play your music, show your album art, and you can browse, fast forward and control all your music with the head unit's buttons. No adapter should be needed, you just have to use your own cord. Hope this helps. [ LUCINDA  May 01, 2014 ]

This unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video programming and operating certain controls when the vehicle is in motion. [ Krissy  Feb 19, 2014 ]  Staff

Hello Carey -- Crutchfield forwarded your message to me because I just happened to purchase AVH-X1500DVD back in October. My ride is a 2014 Toyota Sienna. I installed it myself. Crutchfield has the exterior cosmetic kit and the wiring kit included free. I simply followed the instruction by hooking up the correct color-coded wires to the wiring harness. I am not a professional installer. But in my younger days I enjoyed tearing my rides into pieces and put them back on. I meant to say a little experience did make this job easier. It took me about 90 minutes to install the head unit. I also purchased the back-up camera, and so I spent another 2 hours installing the camera and routing the wires to the front to the head unit. Hope this helps you in your decision making, Carey...!!! Brian [ BRIAN  Jan 27, 2014 ]
I found instruction to install easy.you should not have any problem. [ GARETH  Jan 26, 2014 ]
If you have replaced a car steoreo before then it might be easy for you. Buy if it is your first time. I would recommend reading the instruction carefully and maybe call and talk to a crutchfield tech before you start. Make sure you have all the tools suggested in the instruction, it makes life a lot easier. I think it is doable if you want to avoid paying a professional to install it. [ KHOI  Jan 26, 2014 ]
Yourself. Very easy using crutchfield help. [ MICHAEL J  Jan 25, 2014 ]
I installed it myself. tech support was great when i needed to call for one minor issue. they talked me through it without a problem. good luck [ BYRON D  Jan 25, 2014 ]
As long as you can read and aren't colorblind you can do it yourself. It takes less than an hour to install. [ MARCUS  Jan 25, 2014 ]
For details on fit or installation please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and give you the details on if this will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle. [ Krissy  Jan 17, 2014 ]  Staff
definitely "YES" that is the beauty of this adapter. It is easily programmable for most cars and trucks. [ JOSE  Jan 19, 2014 ]
To be honest I would consult tech support with that. I didn't buy any additional adapters for my steering wheel controls since the new player came with remote. I hope that helps you. [ matthew  Jan 14, 2014 ]
There was no hook up on the back of the unit for exterior controls. [ SARA  Jan 13, 2014 ]
I haven't has that problem with this exact radio but I have had a similar problem with previos radios. The problem ended up being because I had a subwoofer and amp hooked up to that radio too, and because of a bad ground it made that noise. Hopefully that helped, good luck! [ MIKE  Feb 09, 2014 ]
Sounds like you have it grounded out somewhere. Check all your wire connections to make sure nothing is grounded that shouldn't be. Hope that hels! [ AARON  Jan 14, 2014 ]
It sounds like noise from alternator. you need to find a better ground for head unit. I assume that you are using the one harness for power if not make sure it's routed away from other power lines that could cause bleed. [ WALLACE B  Jan 12, 2014 ]
This is caused by one of 2 things. Your head unit is poorly grounded or one of the speaker wires are grounding out. Check the wire harness to make sure all the wires protected. Also make sure the head unit has a good ground as well and if necessary run a new one to an unpainted bare metal bracket and that should do it. [ DANIEL  Jan 12, 2014 ]

AM reception is pretty good. Of coarse it depends on several factors as to whether you can receive some stations. Nor least of which is distance and how much radio activity is going on in your area. [ JOSE  Jan 19, 2014 ]
FM stations sound great! Don't have any an stations that I listen to... they sound like they would on any other radio in my opinion... [ ADRIEN M  Jan 11, 2014 ]
reception has never been an issue with unit. I received a San Antonio station into Corpus Christi. [ ARTHUR M  Jan 11, 2014 ]
Am is pretty good [ JOE  Jan 11, 2014 ]
No you need the head unit to have bluetooth [ MIKE  Jan 14, 2014 ]
You can with a bluetooth adapter, Crutchfield sells them, you'll need a mic too. [ DANIEL  Jan 12, 2014 ]
No. Not that I know of. Sry [ ANDREW  Jan 11, 2014 ]
    No the 1500 can't but the 2600 can . Pioneer is a good product . I just switched my wife from the 1500 to the 2600. [ DONOVAN  Jan 10, 2014 ]
It uses a basic usb port coming out of the back of the radio. I don't have an I phone but I am pretty sure it will work. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. [ Charles  Jan 05, 2014 ]
This works perfectly for my iphone 5 even though the manual says it doesnt support the firmware. The head unit should come with an adapter you plug into the back then run it out to where youll easily be able to acces it. Then it should be as simple as plugging in your charger. Hope this helped [ Tristan  Jan 05, 2014 ]
Lighting adapter from Apple or you can look for cheaper, but the adapter allows everything to work properly. The music and aux already work you just can you the app stuff because it gives you a black screen, and with the adapter it will allow you to do everything.. [ MARYALIN F  Jan 05, 2014 ]
I use my iPhone 5 with my power cord plugged into the USB port [ JULIE A  Jan 04, 2014 ]
It should, I use it with an iPhone 5. You just use the USB cable. [ STACEY  Jan 04, 2014 ]
No adaptor needed... Use your apple cable and hook it up to the USB [ PLASTECH CLEAR  Jan 04, 2014 ]
Awesome question, but I'm way behind you...I just learned how to work the remote. [ JOHNNY  Jan 04, 2014 ]
I haven't played too much with the backgrounds, but I do remember reading somewhere in the manual that you're only able to upload one at a time. You might want to check that out [ Kristie  Jan 02, 2014 ]
My son has a galaxy 3 that he uses with his. [ Rose  Jan 02, 2014 ]
I believe you can. What you will need to purchase is an adapter for the new iPod/iPhone plug. It works for my 7gen ipod. [ michael  Jan 02, 2014 ]
Yes, you can use your iPhone5 using the provided USB cable and your iPhone cable. Keep in mind, this unit is not Bluetooth ready, but will work with your phone as long as you have the cord. [ Charles  Jan 02, 2014 ]
I bought it for my son's 16th birthday, which is on Jan 26th. So we have not yet installed it. My son in law is installing it. He said it would not be hard to install yourself. There would be no need to have a professional install it. [ TERESA  Jan 05, 2014 ]
Hello, sorry for the delay, Its pretty straight forward and colored coded wires makes it a better install good luck [ Moises  Jan 02, 2014 ]
If you get the installation kit with it very easy to install. [ wade  Jan 01, 2014 ]
If you have basic car knowledge and basic wiring knowledge then you'll be okay. Took me about 20 minutes to install the harness. Its a quick and easy process, just follow the crutchfield directions that comes with your order and youll be all set. By the way the radio is well worth the cost. [ Shane  Dec 31, 2013 ]
I've never installed a stereo before and my installation could not have been easier. The instructions are easy to follow and all of the adapters for my truck fit perfectly. I do recommend soldering all connections and using heat shrink tubing. My stereo worked perfectly the first time I turned it on. [ Mark  Dec 31, 2013 ]
It's not terribly difficult. If you have a fair bit of know how and an aptitude for following instructions to the T, you should be fine. [ Steven  Dec 31, 2013 ]
Very simple to install, same process as installing a regular CD player. Installation kits provided through crutchfield for your vehicle make it very easy. [ Adam  Dec 31, 2013 ]
It does have surroundsound. And it is a good investment. I have the bose system in my truck and everythink is so much better and clearer. I suggest you get but it does not have bluetooth. [ Edward  Dec 31, 2013 ]
    dts 5.1 surround sound [ CHASE  Dec 30, 2013 ]
Only in that it can get too much of your attention, like looking for a song through the ipod files while you should be looking at the road. volume and track up/down are physical buttons on the side. [ JEFF  Jan 13, 2014 ]
Unlike most new electronics this unit is actually pretty easy to operate even while driving. [ JOSEPH  Jan 02, 2014 ]
This unit includes a remote. My last radio had a remote as well, and I used it almost exclusively because it was much easier than using the buttons on the unit's face. I would recommend getting familiar with the layout of the buttons on the remote and use it while driving. It may take a while to learn the layout without looking, but once you get used to using the remote it is much better because you don't have to take your eyes off the road. [ STANLEY  Dec 31, 2013 ]
This is the first touch screen I have owned also and it did take a little bit getting used to but it is very user friendly. You just have to remember driving comes first not music, but the volume and next track are both buttons which i find i use more than the touch screen also it has a remote that i find handy while driving. Good luck and enjoy [ SCOTT  Dec 30, 2013 ]
No it's a pretty easy transition. The unit also comes with a remote and that helps tremendously to control the radio while driving. Hopefully this helps! [ CHAD M  Dec 29, 2013 ]
Art, I purchased this unit several weeks ago and have had no trouble adjusting. As with any new system, I recommend taking some time once it is installed to play with the system and understand where the different features are. I have been able to understand the unit with minimal reference to the users guide. Hope that helps. Matt F. [ Matthew  Dec 29, 2013 ]
I think the the controls of the AVH- X1500 are straight forward and can be safely used while driving. Most after-market radio I have owned seem have very small buttons that are difficult to see and press while driving. The touch screen icons are large enough to see and touch with minimum distraction while driving. The physical buttons on the top left side of the screen are volume up, volume down and mute. The large half round button on the center left is a menu button and takes you to the screen choices such as CD, DVD, USB, AUX IN that are available by touching the screen. The lower 2 buttons advance CD or USB music tracks. The touch screen works very well with just a light touch. There is a remote control included if that is a preference. Add a backup camera to this unit and you will fully appreciate this unit every time you back out of your driveway. [ Michael  Dec 29, 2013 ]
Not at all, everything is really simple software wise, you can switch from input with a couple touches, etc. Keep it mind, tho, that having the screen on is highly illegal when driving, but if you consider yourself a good driver and won't be doing something like changing the language settings while driving, you should be fine if you need to access it for a couple of seconds (make sure there art any cops around when you do so, tho (I didn't say that lol) Enjoy! Jean-Pierre [ JEAN-PIERRE  Dec 29, 2013 ]
    No absolutely not very easy [ H Ryan  Dec 29, 2013 ]
No, it does have a removable faceplate [ RODRIGO  Dec 28, 2013 ]
No removable face plate. [ Guest  Dec 28, 2013 ]

What kind of adapter i need for iphone 5? [ Jose  Jan 01, 2014 ]
    I don't really know I use a Samsung3 works well hope this helps. [ GARETH  Dec 19, 2013 ]
    Yes it is [ MARCUS  Dec 18, 2013 ]
    Yes the 5S an 5C as we'll. [ JONATHAN  Dec 18, 2013 ]
I do not have an iphone 5 . However there is a usb cord provide with the unit that you should be able to utilize to plug in the iphone or other storage device. My only issue is that the cord attaches to the back of the unit and it must be routed somewhere through the dash. [ RONALD  Dec 18, 2013 ]
Sounds to me like your car might have a factory amp built in that you didn't know about. If that's the case then Crutchfield sells adapters to bypass the factory amp and that should solve your problem. [ TOM  Dec 10, 2013 ]
I would say check all wires and make sure the connections are secure, especially the speaker wires. [ JEFF A  Dec 10, 2013 ]
Well I have mine hooked up with an amplifier and works great, are you going from a stock headunit to this or just an upgrade from another aftermarket? The is also a setting called "line level in" this can be used to adjust the level of your input cd,usb, aux, ect.. Last thing if its in imported car may need a interface to make functions preform properly? I hope something I said helps let me know im interested in knowing the cause Justin H- [ MARK  Dec 09, 2013 ]

Thanks for your response. Do you use your ipod with this unit and how we'll does it work? [ Louis  Dec 09, 2013 ]
No, installed in a 2000 Honda Odyssey, fits perfect! It was smaller than my factory double din, but with the dash kit Crutchfield provides, there was a trim ring that fits around head unit and filled area to make it look like factory installation. Hope this helps [ ADRIEN M  Dec 09, 2013 ]
This is safety feature of the unit. To watch movies from the DVD screen on the receiver your vehicle will need to be in park, and you may need to also have your parking brake engaged. [ Jeff  Dec 06, 2013 ]  Staff
The unit features a rear-panel USB port and includes a 59" USB extension cable. You can connect a USB mass storage class device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable digital audio players, or USB thumbdrives. [ Jeff  Dec 03, 2013 ]  Staff
The major differences are that the 3500 includes Bluetooth connectivity and is SiriusXM ready. [ Jeff  Nov 29, 2013 ]  Staff
Its good but not to loud sound quality its ok sometimes distort [ JUAN CARLOS MAR  Nov 27, 2013 ]
Sound quality was excellent, had no problems with distortion. Definitely got loud enough!!! Very happy with it! [ NICHOLAS  Nov 27, 2013 ]
Sound is very clear and crispy! Even if you get it cranked all the way up it doesn't really distort [ JEFFERY S  Nov 26, 2013 ]
Jared, Yes it is loud and it is a great DVD player for the price and I haven't had any distorting issues [ LANCE R  Nov 25, 2013 ]
