Ramp up the party in your car

Pioneer's DEH-X3500UI is the first CD receiver in their lineup with MIXTRAX technology. Turn on MIXTRAX, and you'll get a DJ-inspired audio/video experience with the music stored on your iPod®, iPhone®, or other USB device. You'll enjoy seamless musical transitions with cool effects, as the receiver's illumination pulses with the beat of your tunes.

Pioneer DEH-X3500UI

Pioneer increased the size of their dot-matrix display, so you can see all system information with a quick glance. You can also adjust the display and control colors of this receiver separately, with thousands of possible combinations on tap.

Play your music and streaming sources, too

Plug your iPod into the USB input, and you can use the Pioneer's controls to run the show. Once connected, the receiver bypasses your iPod's built-in digital-to-analog converter, using its own high-quality DAC to deliver your music with the highest fidelity possible. You'll also be able to take charge of your Pandora® Internet radio stations from the receiver, including the ability to give a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down." Of course, the DEH-X3500UI plays all your CDs, including those loaded with MP3 and WMA files.

Pioneer means great sound

The built-in amp at the heart of this receiver delivers plenty of power for strong sound. You'll also find an impressive collection of soundshaping controls. The 5-band equalizer lets you adjust the sound to your car's interior, while the Advanced Sound Retriever reverses the compression process to give you more high-frequency sparkle and musical detail from your digital audio files. You'll also find the high- and low-pass filters handy if you're building a system with amps and subs.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most vehicles you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Pioneer stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Pioneer, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

Easy to install product, it looks and sounds great. Best purchase of a car receiver to date.

    Significant Improvement

canadian_punk_living_in_igloo from Vancouver, BC, Canada on 10/7/2013

I bought my 2001 Civic DX this May, and it came with an old Clarion DB225 set. Wanting front AUX and USB input, I the replaced it with the DEH-X3500UI. The installation was easy, I just needed to solder the wires colour to colour. It sounds amazing. I have yet to try CD, but playing music with the USB connection from my iPod Nano blows my mind. The speakers now provides much more clarity, and the bass kicks in quite hard without buzz. I am still using stock speakers without subwoofers. I do not plan on adding a sub because I do not want extra weight on my car, and it already giving me a lot of bass. In settings, I am given a lot of options regarding Audio characteristics. It came with 2 customizable EQ, and 5 pre-set EQs. So you can have a lot of fun adjusting to find the perfect sound that fit your speakers. This dock also provides a lot of display/button colour options. And yes, the display and the buttons can be of different colours. My advice is to set the colour right when you're driving your special someone with a favourite colour. Trust me, there are many options, you can even manually change the code of the colour to fine tune it. The deck also came with a remote, if you're into that, but I've been using the keys so far. The volume know feels a little slippery when my finger is dry, so I sometimes need to turn it with two fingers. But the overall controls is quite easy to pick up, you'll soon be able to browse through your iPod collection with this set.

Pros: Easy to install Quality sound, heavy bass without buzz 2 customizable 5-band EQ Colour options - keys and display different colours Good price Responsive remote control system

Cons: iPod control is a little difficult when you're driving a manual transmission, drinking coffee and trying to change songs AUX lacks sound quality compared to USB, so I recommend having an iPod with USB connection

I bought this stereo to replace an inferior aftermarket stereo. I have purchased Pioneer in the past and have never been disappointed. This stereo still leaves me with that feeling. Great stereo, especially for the money.

Pros: Ease of installation and always a great pioneer product

Cons: After installing this I was getting really distorted sound out of my rear speakers. Turned out being a submenu on the stereo that I just had to change the settings. Thanks Crutchfield support.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is for the 2002 Honda CR-V. I bought this a couple of weeks ago and installed it myself. The instructions were pretty easy from Crutchfield. I played around with it and through Pioneer's FAQ was able to set the clock and the colors I wanted. The one quibble I have is using the head unit. When in iPod mode, I can't figure out how to change from one playlist to the next on the fly. I haven't tried the CD player, but I imagine it's standard as any other player. The best thing is it plays mp3s unlike my stock unit. Now I have can have hours of music when traveling, especially to San Diego.

Pros: Many features Color palette Can use iPod and Pandora

Cons: Difficult to use various features

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the price, this was a great value. I have installed a lot of car stereos and this unit thus far is the best bargain out there. You get pioneer 4x22 at normal listening levels and fifty at peak, besides it has this cool light show in the Mix trax mode. I had a old Kenwood sw1 powered sub and connected it after sitting years in my garage what a sound, it makes coupled with this head unit a sound rivaled by more expensive units.

Pros: blends in with any dash color

Cons: unit trim made very cheap could have been a little bit more sturdy

    Buy it..

Pros: User friendly, mounts in a snap, cool lights. If you have questions chat with the folks at Crutchfield they are always ahead of the game, a must if you want to get it right the first time and something you don't get at the big box store..

Cons: Wish it has USB ports in the rear so I could drop my I pod in the globe box..

Ordered the radio on the 15, got it on the 18th, and put it in today. The installation wasn't too bad, even though I did receive the wrong wiring harness. It wasn't a big deal though, and with a little improvisation it was all hooked up and ready to go. I love the illumination, and the USB/Aux hookups are a major plus for me. Looks great, works great. I have to say I'm very pleased.

    Pros: Looks, Sound, USB/Aux, CD

I have always trusted Pioneer Electronics for my home for over 20 years, why not trust it for my SUV? I installed this stereo alongside Boston Acoustics G110PD and Kicker 11ZX300.1 and it sure sounds a lot better than the factory electronics I had in there before. I had this installed in 45 minutes, without any problems thanks to Crutchfield's expertise in compatability. If you are tired of your factory stereo, or just needing to upgrade your old one, you really can't go wrong with this model.

Pros: Multi-Illumination display, ease of use menus, price and durability.

Cons: Not compatible with my Microsoft Zune mp3 player (other than charging it).

I wanted something that I could connect my phone/ipod. Also I wanted something that could light up in pink or whatever I wanted, this product was just what I was looking for!!!Super Fast Shipping!!! Item was well kept safely packaged.

Pros: Great Sound You can Customize! Cool Colors! Easy Installation!!!

Cons: @ night colors sometimes are to bright, even with the dimmer on...suggest red would be the best @ night Other then that...there is none!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first truck, and I needed a new stereo (and am now redoing all the speakers). That being said, I found it fairly simple to put in with a little guidance from my step-father, and the diagram it comes with explains all the wires and what goes to what. I love that I can chang the colors and show off, it sounds great, and the only problem I have is every now and then, I have a small problem navigating the menus. The only thing I miss on my stock stereo is the speed controlled volume, but not so much.

Pros: Simple install, with very helpful instructions Can easily change the color to red-spectrum colors at night (only color range that won't kill night-vision) Clear quality sound

Cons: Menus are sometimes confusing at first Even with the dimmer on, can be a little too bright for night driving.

I installed this stereo 2 days ago and I just LOVE this product. This is the best product I've ever had for my cars. Great sound, cool looking and easy to operate with many features. It just works perfectly with my iPhone5 and iPod with power cables. You don't need any additional cable such as Aux, audio-to-audio cable. MP3 player works excellently. Great stereo. great sound. Mainly bought it for iPod and iPhone support and the USB connection works perfectly. Love the fact that you can control the devices from the device or the deck without changing settings. My only issue is the amount of menus you have to go through to change subwoofer settings and other audio settings. Mix Trax is very cool feature. Can't beat this stereo for the price.

Pros: Full iPhone 5 support Can control iPod or iPhone from device or deck. MixTrax is very cool Remote comes with it.

Cons: Should have an easier way to get to the subwoofer controls. When you have a sub almost every song needs to have bass adjusted. Had to install an RCA inline control knob to adjust bass on the fly.

I did a lot of researching for a cd deck that was around $100.00. I have had great luck with pioneer in the past so this brand was my top choice. This deck has alot of features that you will really use and the color customization is endless. What I like the most is that you can play pandora thru it. all you have to do is plug your phone in and it will automatic hookup and start playing the last station you were on. I did not have to install or download any software to make this work. I would definitely recommend this cd deck to anyone

After installing this in my car it was a night and day difference over the stock headunit, I have a Rockford Fosgate P3 15" sub hooked up to this unit and one of the options i liked about this radio is the high pass filter you can adjust for your door speakers which is great when you dont need low end bass distorting your mids and highs, another thing i liked about it is the "Mix" button which turns your car into a club on wheels. I've owned alot of aftermarket radios in my life and this one has got to be my favorate!

I bought this for a 02 Mit. Lancer to replace the stock radio, mainly so I could have the USB ipod support. The sound quality is exceptional as compared to the stock unit, especially if you enable the "Loudness" feature. Now I'm afraid to crank it too loud as I may blow out the stock speakers. The only negatives that I have found to be with this unit are the menus (i.e. to find/switch music via USB, etc.) are kind of tricky to navigate, especially when your driving, and the "RDS" feature constantly displays "NO TEXT" between intervals of broadcast text.

Pros: Sound quality, USB interface, HD Radio

Cons: Somewhat tricky menus, RDS issue, Kinda cheap feeling plastic buttons

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this for my 24yr old daughter, the one in her Hyundai crapped out, she just flipped over the all the colors and the easy setup. I for one found it alittle confusing, but what do I know, I still remember using eight tracks. The installation wasn't too bad, the instructions were easy to follow and the wiring harness was a snap to make, replaced it within an hour. She is very happy with it and thats all that matters.

Pros: Great sounds and ambiance, easy install instructions and setup and give this Pioneer DEH-X3500UI and AAAAA+

Cons: The only Con I have is for the vehicle I had to put it in, you can't have a 6'4" guy in a tiny Hyundai Accent.

    Great buy

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone/iPad.

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-X3500UI is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-X3500UI is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the DEH-X3500UI are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Equalizer: The Pioneer DEH-X3500UI features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source (except for USB/iPod/Pandora); while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

Bass Boost The DEH-X3500UI features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.

Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

4ch/2V Preamp Outputs: The Pioneer DEH-X3500UI features two pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs. The unit's rear preamp outputs can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer outputs with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level control.

Subwoofer Control: When the head unit's preamp output is configured as a subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the low pass filter (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125 Hz), select the filter slope (-6/-12dB), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

High-Pass Crossover: When you don't want low-frequency sound to be heard through your front or rear speakers, you can simply active the head unit's HPF (high pass filter). By activating the HPF, only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output from the front or rear speakers. The high pass filter crossover can be set to 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160hz, 200Hz or Off. The slope level of the HPF can also be adjusted to -6dB or 12dB.

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Speaker Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

    AM/FM + Pandora Internet Radio

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Pandora App: The free Pandora App lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer DEH-X3500UI using your connected Apple iPhone, via the Pioneer CD-IU51 iPod connector cable (sold separately) or the USB/iPod dock cable that came with your iPhone. To access Pandora you must have an Apple iPhone 2G/3G/3GS (iOS 3.0+),  iPhone 4 (iOS 4.0+), iPhone 4S (iOS 5.0+), or iPhone 5 (iOS 6.0+) with the latest version of the Pandora Radio application from Apple's iTunes App Store. Your iPhone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. You will also need a Pandora music service account. The Pioneer DEH-X3500UI will provide control over the Pandora music service and display Artist/Album/Song information.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • QuickMix: QuickMix allows you to listen to songs played on one or more Pandora stations in your Station List randomly. You will need to edit your QuickMix station selections on the iPhone before connection.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.
Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

    Display Features

No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 27 preset colors (White to Rose), customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red, Blue, and Green brightness levels), or scan through various color settings (All/Warm/Ambient/Calm/Custom).

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose among twelve patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music. You can also choose which area's of the head unit's face illuminates; select Display, Keys, Both or Off.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On/Off within the menu.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The DEH-X3500UI comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
