Compact design fits a variety of cars

Our take on the Pioneer MVH-X370BT

by Jon Paulette
Pioneer

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Designed for digital

Pioneer's MVH-X370BT digital media receiver lets you enjoy music from your iPhone® or iPod®, select Android™ phones, or a USB thumb drive. You also get built-in Bluetooth® technology and Pioneer performance – all at a surprisingly nice price. Plus, you can still check out the news or a ballgame on good old-fashioned AM/FM radio.

No discs needed

With direct iPod and iPhone control, you can plug your device into the receiver's USB port and make music selections through the receiver. As a bonus, the receiver will also charge your device while you're playing your tunes. If you own an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, you can take advantage of Siri® Eyes Free functionality with a touch of a button, accessing a variety of functions with your voice commands.

If you're using an iPod, iPhone, or USB device, Pioneer's integrated MIXTRAX virtual DJ technology can turn your music collection into a non-stop playlist, with customizable transitions and effects that will make your car feel more like a club.

Android users can control their music via Bluetooth or plug into the front panel USB port and play music while getting a charge. You can also plug in a thumb drive and enjoy MP3, WMA, and WAV files, or use the aux input to connect an MP3 player or portable satellite radio tuner.

And if you're a Pandora fan, you'll love having the ability to create your own unique stations that play all your favorite kinds of music.

Built-in Bluetooth™

The MVH-X370BT features built-in Bluetooth, so you can enjoy hands-free calling and wireless music streaming on the road. The included external microphone picks up your conversation, and you'll hear your caller through your vehicle's speakers. The dual phone connection lets you pair two phones, while “Guest Mode" allows you to add or replace a mobile device with ease. That's a great feature for a family car with multiple drivers, or one driver with multiple devices.

Compact chassis, big performance

With no CD player to worry about, Pioneer's designers were able to fit lots of features into a remarkably compact chassis that will fit into a wide variety of dashboards. Pioneer's powerful MOSFET amplifier gives you outstanding sound, while Advanced Sound Retriever (ASR) technology brings back the details lost when you compress music. A 5-band graphic equalizer lets you adjust the sound to suit your tastes, while a set of RCA preamp outputs allows you to expand your system for maximum performance.

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The MVH-X370BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.  In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer MVH-X370BT.

SPP + USB Pairing w/ Guest Mode: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the MVH-X370BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this head unit.

    • USB Pairing for iPhone: You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.
    • Guest Mode: "Guest Mode" allows you to add and replace a 3rd mobile device instantly to the receiver; Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.
    • Dual Phone Connect: Once the pairing process is complete, the head unit will automatically connect two phones when in the vehicle to make and receive calls and stream music from both mobile devices.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The MVH-X370BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And, thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the MVH-X370BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The MVH-X370BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the MVH-X370BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Presets: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Dialing (Siri only): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or later via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Pioneer MVH-X370BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the MVH-X370BT lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4+ phones only). The head unit will also display your music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

Siri Eyes-Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Pioneer MVH-X370BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press and hold head unit's phone key to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the MVH-X370BT and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's LCD touchscreen will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer DVD receiver; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).

    USB & Android Integration

Front-Panel USB Input (Android Compliant): The digital media receiver's front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) or USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) compliant device; such as your Android smartphone or USB thumbdrive. The USB port enables audio playback & control of MP3, WMA, and WAV audio files stored on your portable USB MSC/MTP device through the Pioneer MVH-X370BT. Basic playback controls included Play/Pause, FW/RW, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat. Song/artist information such as track, artist, and album name will also be displayed on the head unit. In addition, USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the digital media receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

    • MSC Playback: The Pioneer MVH-X370BT's USB port enables playback & control of MP3/WMA/WAV music files stored on your portable USB MSC device, like your older Android smartphone (w/ OS 2.2+ [Froyo/Gingerbread]) or USB thumbdrive device (up to 32GB) through the head unit.
    • MTP Playback: The MVH-X370BT's USB port also enables playback & control of stored MP3/WMA music files on your portable USB MTP device, like your newer Android smartphone (w/ OS 4.0+ [Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean/KitKat]) through the Pioneer head unit.
Note: You cannot use your Android smartphone's touchscreen to control music playback and you cannot select music apps from your smartphone for playback. However, you can continue to listen to stored music on your Android smartphone through the head unit while you check your Calendar, Facebook, Texts, etc on your phone.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: The Pioneer MVH-X370BT supports the following types of MP3/WMA/WAV files recorded onto CD-R/RW disc or loaded onto a USB MSC/MTP device.

    Media Type CD-R/RW USB (MSC/MTP)
File System ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo, Long file name FAT 12/16/32

USB Playback Features: The Pioneer MVH-X370BT offers file/folder search, song/artist info display, and basic playback control for connected USB MSC & MTP devices, including Android.

    • File/Track Name List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA albums and tracks on a connected USB device, so you can easily access your music. Music files are listed first by Artist name, then by Album name, and finally by Song title.
    • Song/Artist Information: During MP3/WMA playback, the unit displays any recorded ID3 Tag (ver. 1.x/2.x) and WMA Tag information; including artist, song, and album name.
    • Playback Controls: The Pioneer digital media receiver provides basic operations like Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random for USB device playback. When a compatible Android smartphone is connected, the head unit will control music playback functions; you will not be able to control your music from the smartphone.

Media App Control (for Android): The Media App Control mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps on your Bluetooth-paired Android smartphone (2.3+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Media App Control lets you take control of compatible music apps on your paired Android device through the Pioneer MVH-X370BT. Media App Control allows you to play, pause, and change tracks from a compatible music app directly from the controls on the Pioneer head unit. The app's name (i.e. "iHeartAuto"), station identification, and song/artist information will be displayed on the head unit's LCD screen (when applicable, depending on app). Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Auxiliary Input: The MVH-X370BT is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player.

    AM/FM + Pandora Radio

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Pandora Internet Radio: The free Pandora App (either from iTunes Apps/Google Play) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer MVH-X370BT using your USB-connected Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) or Bluetooth paired Android smartphone. Your Apple iPhone must be connected to the MVH-X370BT via the CD-IU51/CD-IU52 Pioneer iPod connector cable or the connector-cable that came with your iPhone. Your Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Pioneer receiver. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. The MVH-X370BT provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The MHV-X370BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the MHV-X370BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

2V/2Ch Preouts + Sub Control: The Pioneer DEH-X2700I features one pair of 2.0-volt preouts. The unit's preouts can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or non-fading subwoofer outputs. When the head unit's preamp output is configured as a subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the low pass filter (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125 Hz), select the filter slope (-6/-12dB), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Equalizer: The Pioneer MHV-X370BT features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source (except for USB/iPod/Pandora); while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

High-Pass Crossover: When you don't want low-frequency sound to be heard through your front or rear speakers, you can simply active the head unit's HPF (high pass filter). By activating the HPF, only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output from the front or rear speakers. The high pass filter crossover can be set to 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160hz, 200Hz or Off. The slope level of the HPF can also be adjusted to -6dB or 12dB.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Audio Level Settings: The Pioneer MHV-X370BT digital media receiver offers a variety of audio settings to tailor the bass, treble, and volume level to your preference.

    • Bass Boost The MHV-X370BT features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone, and is not supported by USB MTP devices. The Advanced Sound Retriever function is disabled when MIXTRAX is activated.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: The Pioneer MHV-X370BT in-dash CD receiver features detachable face security. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

LCD w/ LED Backlight: The MHV-X370BT features a single-line, multi-segmented LCD with LED backlight that offers a black background and white alphanumeric character text (up to 12 characters). You can adjust the brightness (1-10) of the display according to the surrounding illumination.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "Dimmer" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "Dimmer" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On/Off within the menu.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The MVH-X370BT comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause playback, skip music tracks, change display info, and answer/end Bluetooth phone call. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Awesome unit for the money! I liked that it didn't have a cd player as I don't awn cd's anymore. I play all my music via Bluetooth from my Ipod touch or from my Samsung Note. This unit synced up perfectly and has so far played perfectly. Love it!
    Pros:
    Ease of use, bluetooth

Feature loaded at a great price point

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 1998 Buick Regal, driving Kicker 41DSC6934 6x9 and Kicker 41DSC54 5.25" speakers, using PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Adapter. I hadn't purchased a head unit in almost 10 years - things sure have changed. Bluetooth connectivity, USB input, remote microphone for hands free phone use, respectable amount of power to drive in cabin speakers, sub RCA outputs, a remote control, compatible with steering wheel input. If there's a better deal around somewhere, I couldn't find it. The installation was quick and easy, thanks to the included mounting kit. Unfortunately, the curve of the factory dash prevents the external trim plate from being installed on the radio, so it looks a bit unfinished, especially when the detachable face-plate has been removed. The radio itself fits just fine, so I'll live with it. Placing and receiving phone calls with the Pioneer worked great. The USB port is powered, and had no problems charging my Galaxy S3, albeit slowly. Expect it to take a couple of minutes to scan through all your media if you connect your phone or a flash drive - which brings me to my only complaint. If you turn off the car, the radio forgets everything about the USB connection, which means it will need to reinitialize the USB device and re-scan everything again, and will NOT resume where it left off. For everything the head unit offers, it's a small gripe, and one that I can live with.
    Pros:
Feature loaded Great price point Detachable face USB and Aux input Bluetooth streaming works without issue
    Cons:
Radio will not resume playback of last USB accessed file after being turned off No direct access to Bass/Treble/EQ settings, have to navigate a couple of layers into the menu

    Terrific receiver!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Quite easy to install (required a few short phone calls to Crutchfield personnel with questions, as this was my first-ever car stereo installation). The unit looks great in my 2002 Corvette Z06, and the sound quality is very good.
    Pros:
Crutchfield Tech Support was excellent. Everyone with whom I spoke was very helpful, and I appreciated the fact that I was able to call Saturday evening at 8pm and speak to them. I also appreciated the assistance I got when I initially placed the order. Was left with a good feeling that I was being sent everything I needed to do the install. Also, the aftermarket Axxess harness is an outstanding product - it retains the functionality of the OEM system.
    Cons:
As a first-time installer, the process was a little daunting. It wasn't particularly clear how to wire the new stereo's harness to the Axxess harness, but this was resolved with help of Crutchfield Tech Support.

Awesome Radio! Plan to buy a 2nd one!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This radio is great! We intend to buy another one just like it for our other car! We now have music from our iPhones streaming to our car radio via Bluetooth. No longer have to search for stations on the those long trips. The hands free microphone was a surprise. We tested it and there is no noise feedback to either caller, no yelling talk normally and it sounds like the person has their phone up to their ear.
    Pros:
Quality is great! I think our speakers even sound better with it! The Bluetooth allows for 2 devices to be connected which works well when both me and my hubby are in the car. The Microphone is awesome, works better than what we expected. Looks great in our Jeep Cherokee too.
    Cons:
The only con I have is figuring out all the bells and whistles not a very simple task. It will take me a few weeks to get use to pressing this or that button to access the phone, or the contacts, or am/fm, or the bass, front and rear speakers, etc.

I have not played a CD in years. Why put one in my car stereo? Looks good and sounds great. It's small which made install quick and easy. This is my first car stereo with Bluetooth, and syncing my iphone was so simple, the Pioneer did all the work. My ipod is also hooked up and the usb on the front charges both ipod and iphone. At the price I paid, this has to be the best value in car stereos.
    Pros:
Bluetooth, usb, looks and sounds great too!

An excellent choice for the price... I used it in a Harley Davidson Ultra Classic, installation went smooth, it sounds great, the only problem i have with it is there is a minor blip in the bluetooth maybe once an hour, but that could be an issue with my phone as well.... so no major complaints. It's been great! Sounds good....priced right !

    Good at what it does

Written By RF, Atlanta, GA on Friday, October 10, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had some initial thoughts of not wanting a model without the CD, but after some deeper thinking realized the last time I used a CD was years ago (even for mp3 playback). Thumb drives are much easier to deal with in the end for large lists of songs in case I don't want to use my phone.

All in all, a fine head unit for what I needed. Controls (like most of these new models) are just a bit difficult to get used to at first, especially the EQ fine tuning. Tuner has been fine, still wondering if I should have gotten HD radio, but in the end I am thinking it was not worth the extra price. The metra kit from Crutchfield was just average. It does not allow for a good fit for the receivers trim ring, so the trim ring does come loose from time to time. Not the head unit's fault mind you.
    Pros:
    1) Good SQ (sounds quality) 2) Bluetooth does not lose too much fidelity 3) Shallow mount (since it has no CD player) makes things easier to shove back into the dash
    Cons:
    1) Only three BT's devices can be kept in memory. When attempting to a fourth device, you must first delete another device before you can pair the new one. With a larger family and musical car usage with teenagers, its a but of a hassle for us. I can imagine it being not so bad for smaller families and less devices, but some improvement is needed here. 2) All head units these days get this one, but not terribly intuitive on the controls. Not any worse than others I have used though. 3) Metra k

    Great Sound - Easy Setup

Written By mattsinsight, Arroyo Grande, CA on Wednesday, October 08, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Feeling very "up-to-date" with this new Pioneer MVH-X370BT installed in my 2000 VW GTI The quality of sound is much more improved over my factory radio, the blue-tooth mic that came with it was very easy to run along my headliner and dash and provided ample slack in the line to configure the way I wanted it. I'm using my iPhone 6 plus (+) on the Pioneer deck, and unlike the previous review, I am not having issues with any echoing in the phone call functionality, as tested with multiple calls out. The Bluetooth connection to my phone instantly connects when I get in the car and turn the deck On. The easy library scrolling on-screen is very easy to use and navigate. It took me 2 hours to complete the install (shortened I'm certain, due to Crutchfield providing me with all the tools and adaptor parts) and the setup for the deck was very intuitive and easy to use.

With the larger iPhone and having to drive manual stick, I am in love with this deck. I can leave my iPhone 6 plus (+) on it's windshield suction mount with the USB connected and text, call, or play music hands-free using the new iOS 8 "Hey, Siri" commands. Pioneer is ahead of the game here, and I think you're going to love the experience.
    Pros:
Easy installation, Intelligent Bluetooth connectivity, Bluetooth Mic, Call/Receive function, Improved sound quality, and iOS 8 compatibility for commands and Siri
    Cons:
None that I can think of.

    Great Unit for Price

Written By Mike T, New Britain, CT on Monday, October 06, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Grat Unit. Got this to replace a factory unit in my daughters Ford Focus. The factory unit had a fading display, but sounded pretty good for its age. Replaced it with his unit and found the sound to be very good. Kept the stock speakers and left unit as is - no amps or sub-woofers etc. Really wanted to change because of bad display, but I felt that why not do Ipod and Bluetooth while we are at it. Crutchfield as usual had all the connectors, the dash insert, antenna adapter and old radio removal tool. There really was nothing missing. All I needed to bring was my time and soldering iron for the wiring connectors. Instructions arrived by email another nice feature. It was simple. Simply pull the old unit, pull the connectors and then attache the new ones and push new radio in place. That's it. Sound was great right off the bat.
    Pros:
Great sound in a nice light compact unit. Half the weight of the factory radio, and sound was just as good if not better. Also, had a microphone for my daughters Iphone. Let her worry about connecting the phone to the unit, Instruction manual indicates procedure. I was not interested. so I have no idea if it was easy or not. Price was great value for unit. Display shows artist, song , a neat feature.
    Cons:
No CD, but that's a small complaint, really not needed. Radio has a microphone for smart phone, but it has a cord and needs to be installed separately. Should be installed in face of radio. This may be bordering on nitpicking though, really have very few complaints, would recommend to anyone to buy.

Nice features and a vast improvement on the sound.
    Pros:
Works well with Android devices. Nice fit (lots of room behind receiver for wiring). Microphone works well.
    Cons:
Doesn't fully integrate with a Windows OS smartphone. Steering wheel controls unusable even after using the crutchfield supplied kit.

    Great Unit for Android Pairing

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The head unit paired with my Nexus 4 easily. Bluetooth audio & Pandora sound awesome. The MVH-X370BT has much deeper bass and clearer highs than my prior unit.
    Pros:
easy to pair with phone, great audio, Pandora controls
    Cons:
sometimes gets confused when two phones previously paired are within range. Clear screen is a bit hard to read in bright sunlight.

It is yet another wonderful Pioneer product. I have never been disappointed with their products and am yet again pleasantly surprised.
    Pros:
The price is very economically friendly. The sound quality is perfect up until just a few dials from the max volume. The look of it with the adjustable blue LED lights impresses lots of people.

Great stereo for the money. Good sound and decent volume by itself. Installation was easy with all the harness that came with it. Bluetooth works great and I've put all my cd's on a jump drive and have access easily by searching. The display could be brighter and easier to read but that's the only bad thing I've found. It's ok at night.
    Pros:
Easy install Good value for the money.
    Cons:
Display could be brighter during the day.

All I can say is wow.

I was skeptical when I saw the price, but it had all the options I wanted. It sounds a lot better than the OEM stereo that was in my car. I would really like to install some better speakers to hear it's potential though. The last unit I purchased for my last vehicle was very difficult and confusing to use, but it wasn't a Pioneer. If all Pioneer stereos are as easy as this to use, then I give Pioneer two thumbs up. It is not fancy with lots of bright colors glittering on it, but still looks good in the dash of my car. Seems to be pretty sturdy, but I'll find out in time. As soon as I enter my car it synchronizes with my phone, which is totally awesome. There have been times that I have wanted to use my phone without my car answering my phone, and I haven't figured how to do that yet. I was standing about 50 feet from my car one day with my phone in my pocket while it was running and could hear my car ringing. I didn't know how to answer my phone with out running to my car. Maybe a phone setting. I also didn't know bluetooth would reach that far. Either way, it is a pretty awesome unit. I love the Pandora option. That's all I listen to now.
    Pros:
    Pandora and phone via bluetooth.
    Cons:
Dim display in the sun. Unreadable at times.

    Great Deal!

The bluetooth system provides exceptional sound quality for all phone calls. It is absolutely incredible. The stereo offers great performance and features. Incredible purchase, especially at the price that I paid.
    Pros:
    High sound and connectivity quality
    Cons:
It can be challenging to see all of the buttons on the stereo, but once you've got it all figured out and memorized, it's a breeze to use (like with most stereos). I personally am having a hard time trying to figure out how to bring the bass down... to improve the sound quality even more, but I assume that I'm probably just missing an easy step that I will soon discover :)

Bought this unit to replace an older JVC HD stereo. HD worked fine if you were close to station that broadcast in HD and I'm not close to any that catches it consistently. Wanted a unit to play Pandora through and Android phone with Bluetooth. Sound is adequate, not quiet as good as the JVC, but it does display the artist, which is nice. Hands free calling is also adequate.
    Pros:
Easy to see display. Good unit for the price.

Problems with phone calls, pairing under iOS8

Written By MikeB, Erie, CO on Friday, September 19, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Probably pain from being an early adopter, but the experience with this unit differs greatly between my iPhone 5 (iOS8) and my wife's iPhone 5 (iOS7). The iOS7 iPhone works as advertised, allowing you to pick up phone calls by pressing the button on the receiver. This does not work with the iOS8 phone. Pairing is also very easy and straightforward with the older OS, while the pairing with iOS8 takes several tries to get it to work. Once connected, however, the audio quality and ease of use is awesome.

When you do connect a call, though, there are big problems with echo in the call. In your car you won't notice anything - but your caller will hear their audio sent back to them. Very distracting and as far as I and Crutchfield support can tell, no adjustments in the receiver system to allow you to adjust that echo or microphone sensitivity.

What's cool? You can upgrade the unit via USB using downloads from Pioneer's website. What's not cool? There are no updates to this system as of yet.
    Pros:
Super easy install, small form factor that leaves a lot of room behind the receiver. Awesome sound, very straightforward menus and setup. Nice display and adjust-ability of brightness.
    Cons:
Seems to have problems with iOS8 Bluetooth-connected iPhones, at least my iPhone 5 running iOS8. Too much echo back to incoming callers and no way to adjust that mic sensitivity or echo delay / suppression.

    This is the one

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The 370BT has the best sound quality I have heard in a very long time. I think the absence of a CD mechanism results in better sound quality through better use of the available voltage. The sound is very bright, clean and crisp without distortion. The built-in custom equalizer does provide the most useable and beneficial frequency adjustments to help give better sound than other decks I have auditioned. The 5-band EQ, 3 selectable levels of loudness contour, up to 6 db of bass boost at 100 hz and the Digital Sound Retriever all combine for stunning sound quality. I have 24.9 GB of MP3's, which is over 3,600 songs on a 32GB mini flash drive. Searching for folders/files is very quick and easy, even while driving. Searching files with the remote is even faster. The 370BT is also very easy to operate while driving once you get the hang of the different menu options. Pairing my Galaxy S4 was super easy, the Blue Tooth call quality is excellent and provides a much safer way to drive. I put the mic up in the center of the front edge of my headliner, right above my rear view mirror and have had no trouble at all with people hearing me. Like all other Pioneer decks the FM tuner in the 370BT is very strong. I often listen to the radio during my morning commute, and there are no problems with radio reception. The 370BT looks very good in my dash. I absolutely recommend the 370BT to anyone who needs a deck with Ipod/MP3 capabilities, great sound quality and good Blue Tooth functions.
    Pros:
Phenomenal sound quality. I have this deck powering 4 Pioneer TSA-1675's and a pair of Pioneer TST-110 tweeters and it sounds like I have amps and subs. Tremendous bass output is there if you want it. The 10-level brightness level makes it much easier to see the display in bright sun, even with polarized sunglasses, and you can dim the lights at night. The blue backlighting with the white display is very sharp, looks great to me. Large, separate radio preset buttons are easy to use while driving
    Cons:
I wish there was a way to make Blue Tooth phone call audio play from all 4 speakers instead of just the front. That is definitely not a deal breaker though. I don't use any streaming Blue Tooth audio functions from my phone but am sure those would play through all 4 speakers. The smaller size of the chassis was a bit of a shock when I first saw it but the 370BT has no CD mechanism so it does not need a full size chassis.

This receiver had all of the features I was looking for to upgrade a factory installed radio in my 2002 Altima. The specs for this unit are comparable to others that are easily priced $50 or more and allows me to use all the eyes-free and hands-free features of my iphone 5. Great value.
    Pros:
    Exactly as advertised.
    Cons:
    None.

    Great Value When Considering Cost!

Written By David H., Indiana on Saturday, September 06, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Since I have a rather large mp3 collection, I wanted something for my daily work driver that would allow me to access all of the music I had on my Android phone and PC. I started out using the USB function with a thumb drive, but it was slower to maneuver through the folders on the receiver than it was on my smartphone. Then I discovered Bluetooth! The owner's manual leads you to believe that the receiver controls the phone's media, but I quickly learned that I can scroll through albums and songs on my phone, touch one, and it instantly starts playing through the receiver. I can even control the volume with my phone.

I did learn one thing the night of installation. In MTP mode (plugging your phone into USB port), it will create an Error 19 if you don't have the songs divided up into separate folders (this doesn't happen in Bluetooth mode). I have all of my songs in a single "Music" folder on my phone, and obviously this affected the whole 500 folders / 15,000 files system. I would assume that files are probably limited to 30 per folder, but have never tested the theory. I created a sample thumb drive with the top tier folders being "Artists", then second tier folders being "Albums", then had each album's songs in its appropriate folder, and it worked just fine. So, too many files in a folder does mess something up.

It addresses the brightness of the display that plagued previous models by adding 10 brightness settings. Sound may not be audiophile quality, but is sufficient.
    Pros:
Great functions. Good sound-to-cost ratio. Thousands of songs that can be carried in your pocket.
    Cons:
Operational instructions from Pioneer could be better. Navigation through menus is not intuitive, but rather requires time to learn functions. Bluetooth microphone jack is on the back. I forgot to plug it in during installation, and not worth it now to do so.

Has anyone managed to get Hey Siri working over the Bluetooth mic? I can only get it to work via my phone's inbuilt mic and for that to work I have to really shout at it, which isn't going to work if I have anyone in the car with me and I feel like an idiot doing it. [ Jason  Oct 16, 2014 ]
