Pioneer DEH-X4700BT (2014 Model)

Overview

Our take on the Pioneer DEH-X4700BT (2014 Model)

Pioneer DEH-X4800BT (2015 model) vs. Pioneer DEH-X4700BT (2014 model)

New features for 2015:
  • AOA 2.0 — play and control music streaming apps on your Android through the receiver's USB port
  • 13-character display

Bluetooth® in your car

Bluetooth provides some great connectivity options for you when you're in the car, and Pioneer's DEH-X4700BT CD receiver offers a great way to add them to your vehicle. You can answer a phone call with the push of a button, then talk as if your caller is sitting next to you, freeing up your hands and letting you concentrate on the drive. This Pioneer also supports Bluetooth audio streaming, so you can send music wirelessly from compatible devices to the receiver, plus control basic functions like "track up" or "track down."

Pioneer DEH-X4700BT

The DEH-X4700BT sports built-in Bluetooth.

Your music on demand

Once you connect your iPod® or iPhone® to the front-panel USB input, you'll be able to access your playlists from the receiver's controls. You'll also enjoy control over your favorite Pandora® stations from the receiver when your iPhone is connected or your Android™ phone is paired. You can use the USB input to tap into the music stored on many Android devices, while the front aux input handles just about any other audio source. If you're into your CD collection, you'll enjoy excellent playback of your store-bought and home-burned discs.

Find your perfect soundscape

The built-in 5-band EQ allows you to shape the tone of the powerful MOSFET amplifier, so your music sounds right in your car. Two pairs of preamp outputs let you add external amplifiers or a powered sub.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with a new car stereo. Check “Details” for more information, and the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters. If you're not sure if you need an adapter, call, chat, or email an Advisor for help determining what you'll need for your vehicle.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

It's a decent head unit.

This is a huge difference from my factory radio. I give this radio 5 stars across the board because everything is easy to use and does exactly what I need. This is my 1st purchase with Crutchfield. I purchased the radio and solderless connectors and received the dash kit, installation instructions and wire harness for free. I arrived home at 6 pm on Friday and was so excited all day to begin the installation. I think I opened the box at 6:15 pm on Friday night and had it fully installed with routeing the mic above my review mirror by 6:50 pm! Everything fit like a glove with no issues. The Bluetooth is awesome and the mic is excellent. I went for a test drive using my phone with the Bluetooth feature...with the windows down and driving 60 MPH, the person on the other end on the phone call could hear me clearly with no road noise. If you are looking for an affordable radio to convert your car into a hands free phone system, this is the radio to get! Since my car is so old I did get poor reception on certain AM stations. This radio improved the signal a little, but not enough to my liking; however, I cannot fault the radio for that! This is primarily because of the antenna of the car. The cool thing is that I can now use the Bluetooth feature and stream iHeart Radio to my phone and all of the AM sports shows are available to me. Keep in my that iHeart radio has about a minute delay so you are always behind on real time, but who cares! I love this radio!!!

Pros: - Great radio for the price - I am pretty tech savvy, so I never used the manual to learn the features - The mic for this radio has a long enough cable to mount anywhere and works awesome - Iphone features work great! - This is an above avg radio and perfect for someone needing to comply with local laws about requiring handsfree phone operation while driving. FLAWLESS!! - If your needs are the same as mine, then this radio is for you.

    Cons: - None

I love mine, I didn't realize how backward my system was till I put this one in a 1999 Chevy pickup. I gave it four stars on ease of use because the multi-function know gave me some fits as far as navigating the menus but other than that I like the way it looks and fits in the dash. Since Crutchfield sent everything needed to hook up the system it was almost plug and play. The biggest problem for me was matching the wires together between the headunit and the vehicles' wiring. but once I got a bright light on my work area it was a might easier.

Pros: Good looking unit really puts the sound out

Cons: The wiring can be a bit tricky without a strong light to see the little wire colors

Dim lighting as the other said, even when turned up to 10. I have all my windows tinted too and it still close to impossible to make out what is on the screen. Operation is not quite as intuitive as I would like, but not impossible. Sound is great, but have to replace the factory speakers now because the head unit definitely overpowering them. Even still, you can still hear the sound improvement. Head unit went in to a 2010 Crown Vic which wasn't on Crutchfield sight. On the site I believe they link to a Mercury Grand Marquis as the harness, but installation shop said it was the wrong harness so maybe not. Trying to determine the proper replacement speaker size for the front and back so I can order those correctly.

    Pros: Quality, sound, price.

Cons: Dim lighting. Not super intuitive.

We replaced a previous aftermarket studio with this head unit. Using the adapters that Crutchfield sent, installation was very easy. Set up of the system was easy using the provided owners manual. There are a lot of attributes and settings to this head unit that are amazing at this price point. The removable face was not identified prior to purchase, so that was a nice surprise. We've had a little challenge getting the Bluetooth to connect but that could be user error so far. I would highly recommend this head unit.

Pros: Great price for what you get, easy install, lots of options, benefits and features included.

    Cons: None

Thieves tore (stole) the old radio out of my car. They were unkind to the wiring. This radio and the installation kit from Crutchfield fit right up. Having the USB and aux input jack on the front makes use easy.

Pros: iPod interface is intuitive. Front USB and Aux input jack. Good amplification without distortion

Cons: Display is NOT bright enough in sunlight with (targa) roof off.

Great dek! It installed easily, and made listening to music much more enjoyable. Before this, I was using a AUX->FM transmitter to play music from my phone via the radio. This sounded horrible, and because of my phone case, I had a bad connection, so sometimes, only one side would play. This new dek, instantly connects to my phones BT, and even starts playing the music on its own. Not only that, but it is smart about it: if I have a music app open, it will play from that, whether it is paused or just open. If I have no music app open, it will play from the main music app, without even having to open it. Music in my car is much more enjoyable now.

Pros: * Great EQ * Instantly plays music from either an open app, or the stock phone app * Easy to navigate * Easy to install * USB port * Comes with a mic so that you can talk through the stereo, no need to ever pull your phone from your pocket * Displays phone number/ contact name directly from the dek * Much more!

Cons: The only con I could find was that there is no way to change the color of the display. The only thing you can do about the lights in the display, is dim them. Other than that, I was unable to find any other cons.

Has everything I need! My more expensive Pioneer DVD deck was stolen out of my car and I got this as a cheap replacement. Pleasantly surprised! Great sound, has BT audio, and good radio reception. I'd buy it again if I needed to.

Pros: Good sound, BT works great, and detachable face to deter theft. Easy install.

Cons: A little hard to use cause of the small buttons. No "cool" factor to speak of.

The good news is the price. I feel the unit is worth the cost. Audio quality is fine and the tonal adjustments provided are adequate for the price. Navigating the menus is no easier or harder than any other equipment we deal with these days. The reasons for giving this an average score are these: one of the worst instruction manuals I've ever used as is the wiring interface manual from axxess/metra. Near useless are these manuals. Horrible display illumination. This function IS useless except at night so don't expect to be driving and be reading the display during the day. For this reason alone I rate the unit overall at a 3. A well lit display should not be an issue but pioneer sure has made it one.

Pros: Decent price for decent sound. Bluetooth works good. USB works well also. Crutchfield's service was sterling. Service reps were great. And there was no waiting for a rep to answer the phone. Installation was a breeze after service rep advise.

    Cons: Useless Illumination! Useless manuals!

This is a great unit, works well, HOWEVER, the display cannot be seen except at night. Even with the brightness turned up all the way the reflections from ambient light make the screen unreadable. Even moving your head around doesn't help because the screen is curved and catches light from every angle. I would have returned it but it is too much trouble once installed. Once you memorize what the buttons do it is livable.

    Pros:

    Cons: Dim, reflective, unusable display.

Pros: Looks great, great reception of radio signals, easy to read face

Cons: Poor instruction manual. Spent more time at Pioneer making sure it could be read in several languages than putting in easy to follow installation and use instructions. Thank God Crutchfield included their own instruction sheets or I would have spent hours on the phone.

The CD player is great. Sound quality is excellent. It did take a few minutes to figure out the buttons that what is displayed. The unit was easy to link up to my iPhone using blue tooth. It has been great having hands free for the phone since I did not have that before! It works very well! Now for the bad. The radio reception is really poor. I am thinking this may be as much the antenna. I will be working on that to see if reception improves. If I can get back in to this review, I will add an update.

Overall I think this is a great product. Had just installed new speakers and realized my stock system was the problem. My only drawback is that for my '94 grand Cherokee, which has a power amp/antenna relay, there were no instructions. Had it all hooked up, had power, but the wiring harness needed to be hooked up to another power source, so I had to burn my cigarette lighter ( which I don't use anyway), but now it's pumping out some great sound. Thanks

It has been YEARS since I bought an aftermarket stereo for a car. Now that I have teenagers driving, it was actually really fun to go through a factory stereo swap with my kids, and install an aftermarket stereo. I went with this Pioneer head unit and the associated wiring harness and trim panel to fit the car. I went with this model for the price, the reviews, and features like Bluetooth hands free calling and music streaming. I could not be more pleased. First off, Crutchfield sent me everything I needed for the install. All the pieces fit perfectly and matched up with my vehicle without issue. Very easy buying experience and I received the parts in only a few days. As for the stereo unit itself, I am very pleased. I first swapped out all of the door speakers with Kenwood 6.5" two-ways before changing the factory head unit. There was basically no change in audio quality so I was a little worried. Then I swapped the head unit and BINGO! A 10x improvement in sound quality, output, etc. To connect a bluetooth device, all you do is make your device visible and the Pioneer does the rest - could not be easier to connect a device. I connected both Android and Apple without any trouble. There are a lot of settings to customize how you like your music. The interface is easy to follow even without reading the manual. Highly recommend this Pioneer head unit. Enjoy!

Pros: Easy set-up, bluetooth connectivity, hands free calling sounds outstanding, provides much more power than factory Jeep stereo, looks great, built well.

    Cons: None so far.

Great stereo at a great price. The illumination issues others have commented isn't that bad, but having tinted windows helps. Bluetooth function works better than expected.

Pros: Easy to use and looks great.

Cons: The supplied dash kit wasn't the greatest but it was free so I can't complain.

Overall this item is outstanding. I love the sound of the radio and CD player. The factory installed radio was awful. The ease of use for the hands free phone is great for incoming calls. I still have not figured out how to get it to make outgoing calls with out first touching my cell phone. The radio also has two volume controls (same knob) one for the radio and one for the phone. So I can have the radio on low and when the call comes in it is louder. I am sure this is a learning curve problem. My only real problem with the radio is that the buttons are small. Once I got them set though I hardly ever change my settings.

Pros: Great sound, ease of hands free use, dual volume control, visual appeal

    Cons: small buttons

Needed to re-energize my 1997 Ford bucket truck and Crutchfield came to the rescue. For this price I got a good radio, with bluetooth for my phone, a cd player and xm radio receiver. The install was very quick and easy and the tech support was outstanding. It's my second Crutchfield radio. Great company to deal with.

Needing to replace my daughter's factory stereo so she could have her "iPod on wheels", I looked to Crutchfield as I have in the past. Finding a unit that fit her car specifically along with the phenomenal instructions included was key. I wanted Bluetooth for her phone as well as good connectivity for her music devices and found both with this receiver at a very reasonable price. The included wired microphone is a great touch and I was able to hide the wiring in the dash, attaching it to the steering column very discretely. The ability to detach the face was an added and unnoticed bonus when I selected it. Overall does exactly what we both wanted.

Pros: Shows the number of the caller on the display Includes multiple connections for external devices Detachable display Included microphone for the phone Both Bluetooth and connectivity at a reasonable price

Cons: Display during the day could be a little brighter

Display only feebly visible in ambient light, even with illumination set to 10. Needs shade (inside garage) to be clearly visible. Supposed to be backlit but not apparent. Not usable while driving. Very poor quality display. Surprised at how inadequate it is from such a famous name as Pioneer.

All I can say is WOW! I had not installed a stereo in a car for over 20 years. The price for a decent headunit of this quality in the mid 90's would have been $250 or better. This unit made the factory speakers sound so much better in my wife's 2006 Focus. And the Bluetooth is awesome and very useful for my wife. The Pioneer Headunit matched the Metra harness adapter perfectly and made my install go so smoothly it was almost unbelievable. No meters to read or making educated guesses about which wire is which. Just match color for color while following along with the instructions and the manual for the receiver. Again, so easy and full proof I can not say enough. Crutchfield's "What Fits My Car" section of the website was dead on perfect and everything arrived in 2 days as promised in perfect condition. Best thing of all, my install of the Crutchfield stereo saved me $200 compared to the local stereo shop guys. THANKS CRUTCHFIELD, SEE YOU ON THE NEXT ORDER!

Pros: Makes factory speakers come to life! Easy installation with kit and harness supplied by Crutchfield.

    Cons: None at this time.

For the price this is a great radio. I put this radio in a ford with a Mach sound system (nightmare system to try to match aftermarket parts with) I had a few questions about the wiring up of the 12 volt to 5 volt system for the Mach system. I called up and the service tech with Crutchfield had me on the right track and I had it wired together with his assistance in like 5 minutes. Did I mention I was talking to him at like 8 p.m. central time. Then when intalling, I had a problem and called at like 11 p.m. and they were just as helpful and I had the problem fixed in no time. As long as you can think and follow direction with the customer service of Crutchfield, you can install a radio deck in anything. Really good product, even better customer service.

Pros: Good quality sound, better than premium stock sound system. Customer service excellent

Great radio for the price. Installed it in the auto my teenage daughters drive so that their iphones would have bluetooth connection and voice command functions. Easy to install and works perfectly! I could have found this at a lesser price but I bought from Crutchfield because I respect the years of dedication and their experience they have. Their website automatically suggested the proper adapter for my vehicle and everything worked perfectly. This is the second radio I have ever bought for a vehicle and both were from Crutchfieild, I don't even bother going anywhere else, they are the experts when it comes to car audio. This sound like a fake review but it isn't, real user and real reviewer here, keep it up Crutchfield!!!

My wife is really liking her new radio, she loves the Bluetooth music streaming, she's had it for a few weeks now and she just seems to be more pleased with it as she uses it. I've used Pioneer radios for several years (replacing factory units and aftermarket units that others put in the vehicle before I bought the vehicle) and this device has not disappointed yet.

Pros: Bluetooth audio streaming was the main reason we went with this unit, it works well and it's one of the cheapest Pioneer radios that has this feature built in.

Cons: Took a minute to figure out that the phone (at least my Android, Moto X) has to be "visible to all nearby Bluetooth devices" not just in pairing mode, the instructions did not mention this. Also my wife really wished there was a setting in the radio to not answer calls, but you can turn that off in Bluetooth settings on the phone. Neither of these are big issues, but did create a bit of a head scratching moment.

Pioneer still makes the best sounding equipment out there. And with the famous receivers the entertainment value is over the top. Living in a remote area there are very few radio stations to listen to. But due to the great sensitivity of the Pioneer we get to listen to a lot more and it sounds fantastic. This is a great looking, full featured unit that is easy to use, even for those who don't keep up with technology as much.

Bought this to replace a pioneer I bought many years ago that didn't have Bluetooth. Needed a more hands free phone system and to play my phone's music through said radio. This radio interfaces very well with my IPhone 6 over the Bluetooth. Call sound and quality is excellent at both ends. Interfaces well with Apple radio. (Not a big fan of pandora, but there is a firmware update that I've heard really pleases pandora fans.) When I turn off the car, playback pauses. When I return and turn on the car on, playback automatically resumes. Of course it also displays song information. Have not discovered a way to indicate that a song is a favorite with Apple radio. The display is no frills and dimming is either automatic by time of day, or manually via pushbutton. The manual did not provide detail on this and had to discover how to work and set the dimmer through trial and error. Overall VERY happy with this unit and wife wants one in her vehicle too!

Pros: Low cost Good iPhone compatibility Very rich sound Controls are easy to operate Good sound quality when using phone

got this for my car since i have the double-DIN model in my van. basically functions the same, although i don't like how my phone GPS causes it to switch out of whatever other mode it's in for like 10 seconds every time it needs to alert me of directions. in the FH-X700BT, it only slightly mutes the current audio and doesn't blank out like this one. other than that, my only complaint is that it seems to take a while to get to the functions i want to adjust. sounds good, hopefully even better when i upgrade factory speakers.

I've been using Pioneer car stereo's for over 20 years now. The DEH-X4700BT does not disappoint. It sounds great, has enough inputs to play music from almost any device and works well with my Android phone. The only drawback I can find is the menu system, it really seems to be designed to work with a remote, it's much harder to navigate using the faceplate buttons than it is using the included remote.

Pros: Sound quality, USB, iPod, Aux, BT Audio inputs.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The DEH-X4700BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.  In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer DEH-X4700BT.

SPP + USB Pairing w/ Guest Mode: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the DEH-X4700BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this head unit.

    • USB Pairing for iPhone: You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.
    • Guest Mode: "Guest Mode" allows you to add and replace a 3rd mobile device instantly to the receiver; Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.
    • Dual Phone Connect: Once the pairing process is complete, the head unit will automatically connect two phones when in the vehicle to make and receive calls and stream music from both mobile devices.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The DEH-X4700BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And, thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the DEH-X4700BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The DEH-X4700BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the DEH-X4700BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Presets: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Dialing (Siri only): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or later via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Pioneer DEH-X4700BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the DEH-X4700BT lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4+ phones only). The head unit will also display your music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

Siri Eyes-Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Pioneer DEH-X4700BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press and hold head unit's phone key to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the DEH-X4700BT and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's front-panel LCD will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer CD receiver; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device)..

    Disc & USB (Android) Playback

Compatible Discs: The Pioneer DEH-X4700BT CD receiver supports playback of CD-Audio, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. This unit can play MP3, WMA, and WAV files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs

Front-Panel USB Input (Android Compliant): The CD receiver's front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) or USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) compliant device; such as your Android smartphone or USB thumbdrive. The USB port enables audio playback & control of MP3, WMA, and WAV audio files stored on your portable USB MSC/MTP device through the Pioneer DEH-X4700BT. Basic playback controls included Play/Pause, FW/RW, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat. Song/artist information such as track, artist, and album name will also be displayed on the head unit. In addition, USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

    • MSC Playback: The Pioneer DEH-X4700BT's USB port enables playback & control of MP3/WMA/WAV music files stored on your portable USB MSC device, like your older Android smartphone (w/ OS 2.2+ [Froyo/Gingerbread]) or USB thumbdrive device (up to 32GB) through the head unit.

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-X4700BT is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player.

    AM/FM + Pandora Radio

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Pandora Internet Radio: The free Pandora App (either from iTunes Apps/Google Play) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer DEH-X4700BT using your USB-connected Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) or Bluetooth paired Android smartphone. Your Apple iPhone must be connected to the DEH-X4700BT via the CD-IU51/CD-IU52 Pioneer iPod connector cable or the connector-cable that came with your iPhone. Your Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Pioneer receiver. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. The DEH-X4700BT provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Shuffle Station List: You can listen to songs played randomly from various stations within your Station List.
    • New Stations + Delete: New stations can be created based on the current songs or artists playing. You can also delete a station from your Pandora station list.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-X4700BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the DEH-X4700BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

4ch/2V Preouts: The Pioneer DEH-X4700BT features two pair of 2.0-volt preouts. The unit's Rear/SW preouts can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer outputs. When the head unit's RW/SW preouts are configured as a subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the low pass filter (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125 Hz), select the filter slope (-6/-12dB), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Equalizer: The Pioneer DEH-X4700BT features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source (except for USB/iPod/Pandora); while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

High-Pass Crossover: When you don't want low-frequency sound to be heard through your front or rear speakers, you can simply active the head unit's HPF (high pass filter). By activating the HPF, only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output from the front or rear speakers. The high pass filter crossover can be set to 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160hz, 200Hz or Off. The slope level of the HPF can also be adjusted to -6dB or 12dB.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB thumbdrive, Android smartphone, iPod/iPhone, or Bluetooth device. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Audio Level Settings: The Pioneer DEH-X4700BT CD receiver offers a variety of audio settings to tailor the bass, treble, and volume level to your preference.

    • Bass Boost The DEH-X4700BT features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone, and is not supported by USB MTP devices. The Advanced Sound Retriever function is disabled when MIXTRAX is activated.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: The Pioneer DEH-X4700BT in-dash CD receiver features detachable face security. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

LCD w/ LED Backlight: The DEH-X4700BT features a single-line, multi-segmented LCD with LED backlight that offers a black background and white alphanumeric character text (up to 12 characters). You can adjust the brightness (1-10) of the display according to the surrounding illumination.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "Dimmer" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "Dimmer" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can choose to have the clock display during playback of each source.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On/Off within the menu.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The DEH-X4700BT comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause playback, skip music tracks, change display info, and answer/end Bluetooth phone call. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).
