I'm hard to impress, but this unit does everything I need. I mostly read off of my usb. The search function is great and easy to use. The back up camera is great and the picture is nice. The EQ has presets or 2 custom ones you can save. I don't use navigation or XM radio, but it's nice if I ever wanted to add them I could. I replaced my shaker 500 in my mustang and it sounds great and just as loud. No loss of power. The sub control work great with my amp and two 12 inch woofers in the trunk.

    Pros: lots!

    Cons: none yet

Bought this receiver to replace the original head unit which is going on 16 years old. With Crutchfield technical support, wiring diagram and wiring harness, the installation was a snap for this novice. Only called Tech Support a couple of times for very brief questions needing primarily confirmation that I was doing the right thing. The Tech Support staff were all friendly and super supportive. Mounted the mic for BT calls on the steering wheel column and also installed a Sirius XM tuner behind the head unit and everything looks and sounds great. Still learning some of the features but everything seems to be working beautifully. Love the built in controls for Pandora as well as Ipod through the USB. Only thing I ordered but did not need was the Bojo trim panel pry tools. I found a plastic putty knife that worked perfectly on removed the trim panels. Already had the dash cracked open and ready when the receiver arrived. With the unit being discounted by $100 from list price, it was a perfect time to upgrade. Crutchfield is great - always my first stop for electronics.

Pros: Fantastic sound, bright 7" screen, picture options for normal, zoom & wide, tons of features including backup camera capable.

Cons: Controls on the remote are not as extensive as they might be. Controls on and below screen are a little challenging with big fingers (neither a monster problem but could be improved slightly on future designs).

Pretty good HU, everything seems to work fine. Only issue I had (maybe it was my car?) I couldn't seem to figure out why I kept getting static out of my speakers and my subs had a slight thump to them even when the volume was at 0. Ended up getting a ground loop isolator (only around $20) and everything is perfect now!

Pros: Looks good Big screen Sounds great Screen tilts for preference

Great head unit. Bought this for my 2014 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, and let me tell you, Huge improvement over the stock unit. My stock speakers and sub sound 2x better than before. The fit and finish look oem as well. A must for any Mopar fan with a stock unit. Pioneer hit a home run with this head unit.

This player is amazing! I bought this unit to replace a stock unit. Very simple to install when paired with Crutchfield install kit and wiring harness. Easy to use. I love how I can control my iPod gen 2 by simply plugging it into the provided usb extension from the touch screen. The Bluetooth works beautifully for calling and music from my android phone! I love the pandora controls using Bluetooth! The sound quality is amazing ! The 8 band eq is great and easy to use! I thought I was going to have to replace all my factory speakers but that is not the case! Stock sounds great......for now! I am sure that I will replace them all thru Crutchfield!

Pros: Sounds great! Easy install! Lots of features!

Cons: The microphone for the talk back is not that good for the other people on the other line hearing me clear.

I bought this to replace the stock deck in my gmc. This is a great receiver. Lots of options. The sound is amazing with the Bose system that is stock in the truck. Powerful sound.

Pros: Clear, powerful, lots of options from sound to display.

Cons: There is an issue with the iPhone 6 and the app radio part. Not compatible with iOS 8. It still works playing music off the iPhone even through iTunes Radio. just not the apps.

I purchased this HU as a replacement for my factory radio in my 05 MB C320 sedan with a Hardon Kardon sound system. After a couple of months of looking off and on I decided on this Pioneer unit. After talking with the sales person I was assured that I was receiving everything I needed for the install. I painstakingly removed my factory unit and hooked up the new one only to find that I have no sound. After talking with tech support I was told I needed to run new wires from the amp in the trunk up to the new HU. It goes without saying I was very upset because I specifically asked if there was anything else I needed. I could understand if my car was new, but it's 10 years old. I sent the unit back for a refund. Very disappointed.

I needed to replace the stock head unit in my truck and the Pioneer won out. Its display is easy to use and is not a distraction while driving; the 8-band graphic EQ works well and provides more than adequate options for shaping the sound to please just about anyone; the built-in HD radio tuner works very well and actually does sound better than standard analog FM, and the Bluetooth connection to a smart phone is a real treat and sounds great. Overall this is a really great replacement for a stock head unit.

Pros: Easy-to-use and install; sounds great; looks great; HD radio; lots of terrific features

    Cons: None come to mind

I purchased this item as an open box and was delighted to see that it was in all actuality new. I'm impressed with the quality of the product, the display is clear, colorful and easy to use. Sound quality is great and takes full advantage of my JBL speakers-compared to the factor stereo that my vehicle came with.

Pros: Most stereos manufacturers make it complicated to set their products, but not pioneer....ease of operation, touch screen display is bright colorful, functionality and setup is right on target as you work Ur way thru setup and operation. Plus this system makes my JBL Speakers Sound So Sweet

Cons: I wish there was an external knob to be able to turn the volume up or down...even though the screen is six inches which is still rather large but compared to my old system which had a 7 inch screen, the 6 inch screen still takes little getting used to...

I have had this unit about 10 days now, and I am very happy so far. It arrived in perfect conditioned, packed very well, even though I despise packing peanuts. The sound quality is far and above the stock unit, on the same stock speakers. After spending about 45 minutes deciphering the instructions and the many different harnesses I needed to wire together to get this unit to work with my steering wheel controls, I was ready to install it. Installation into the dash was quick and easy.

I have the VSE Bazooka box subwoofer that was designed for the 05-10 Scion TC, and the unit works flawlessly without any needed modifications. The steering wheel controls work good, except for when trying to change radio station favorites. Instead of changing to the next favorite, it goes to the next frequency, no big deal though.

Bluetooth works great with my Samsung Note 3. After taking 30 seconds to initially connect my phone to the unit, it automatically connects within 10 seconds after turning the car on and is ready to play the music. The included microphone works alright for Bluetooth calling, but could probably be better. Unfortunately the Mirrorlink does not support my phone. The HD radio works well without having to make any changes to my antenna.

The full equalizer is a nice feature and really helps tune the sound the way I want it. There are also a few different subwoofer settings that allow you to fine tune that, and a loudness setting is also included.

Pros: Good unit for the price Many ways to tune the sound Friendly interface Hey, it's a Pioneer.

Cons: Lack of Mirrorlink support for my phone, but not the units fault. Volume gets loud really fast. Around 10 is normal listening volume, 15 is deafening. Glare makes the screen near impossible to see, but that is the same with most screens.

What can I say. I am glad I bought this from Crutchfield. I had to call support for 3 different issues (2 were not in my control, 1 was from me being stupid). As for the review of this Receiver, I cannot be happier. I spent 2-3 weeks looking at all the available units, weighing costs, features that I wanted, and reviews. This unit is excellent. The install was not difficult (Except for the parts that I made difficult, or had to remove the unit because I missed a wire). The bluetooth is what I really wanted this unit for. I was not disappointed. reading all my music from a 32GB flash drive, again, perfect. BT controls of my LG G3 phone are again spot on. DVD's play. I cannot say anything about the iPhone or Andriod app controls, since I use USB or BT connections. Over all I love this headunit.

Pros: Menus are easy to follow, sound quality is excellent. Install was easy. BT works like a charm.

Cons: None that I can see at this moment. I am very happy.

    Pros: sounds good

Cons: app radio doesnt work half the time getting a '' Accessory not compatible " when it is compatible hard to use

I originally purchased a radio with analog style display. It was hard to read in bright light and not easy to use. Thanks to Crutchfield's generous return policy I switched to this unit. The touch screen operation is great and provides information on the station presets and is easy to select between the audio sources. The home screen shows the selections such as disk, FM/HD, SiriusXM, & Bluetooth. Also phone connection info and access to the equalizer is right there. No guessing. The big screen is super for someone with big fingers. I have not tried the video and probably never will. The touch screen operation was what I wanted. If there was any disappointment it was that it would not automatically switch between my phone and my wife's phone. It will automatically connect to the last phone used, if we need to switch phones we need to connect manually. Not a big deal but I thought it would switch automatically. I used the CRUX adapter kit so all of the steering wheel hand controls work. I am quite handy but had a few questions during installation and operation. The Crutchfield techs are great and seem to have the answers. Also I emailed the manufacturer on an operation issue and got a prompt answer.

Pros: Big screen with easy selections and good information. The touch system works great. Very intuitive spent almost no time reading the manual.

Cons: Doesn't automatically switch between phones

So I get the first unit and playing a CD or iPod the track skips. It gets half way through, then it goes back to the start or goes to the next song. The remote doesn't work. Called tech support and while very helpful, we couldn't find a solution to the problem. Crutchfield sent a replacement. After installation, the same problems were present but worse. Once the receiver played a song, it stuck. No previous or forward worked. Called tech support again. We couldn't find a solution. On their suggestion. I ordered a different product,.Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS. After problems with this unit (and getting frustrated with myself) I had one wire connection wrong. After correcting, the Ipod stuck one one song and would not move. Bottom line, this unit doesn't support the iPod classic (160GB) even though they claim they do. No problem with the 10GB Touch or the 80GB Classic.

Works and sounds great. Installation did take me a while but not because of the head unit itself. It was pretty easy to install.

    Pros: Lots of features.

Cons: Only problem I have had is that I think I may have put the XM unit too close to the radio antenna connection. I am getting bit of static on 1 channel. 92.1 FM. One other thought it might have been nice if there was an easy way to connect USB devices to the front of the unit.

Bought a truck that already came with a DVD/Nav Head Unit, but it was a Kenwood. The interface was very confusing and difficult to make simple selections or changes. After already owning 2 head units by Pioneer, I keep running back to them for their ease of use and adjustability. My first DVD player from them was a AVIC D3, which at the time was one of the higher end models. To this day, it is still rocking! But, with the advances in technology, their head units have become even more user friendly with expansive options. I'm definitely happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking for a DVD Player at this price point. Since I use my phone for navigation purposes, there wasn't a need for the DVD/Nav Head Unit. Save a little money going this route.

Pros: Ease of use/User Interface, Styling, Quality, Multiple Connections in the Rear for Expandability

Cons: Face plate/screen does NOT detach as in other models. But, that's not too big of a deal for me. But, it might be for someone else.

I purchased this unit and installed it about 10 days ago. Using the harnesses suggested by Crutchfield install went pretty smooth. The iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module used to retain the factory steering wheel controls was a little tricky and took some guessing. The hardest part was getting the website to flash the module. I really wish the instructions had been a little more fool proof because i found myself wondering why i had so many extra wires often. Another thing to keep in mind and I'm not sure if this is do to my vehicle or the actual unit size itself but i had to do a lot of trimming to my dash to make this fit. I installed it into a 2012 ram 1500 with the center console. i actually ended up cutting a metal support bracket in my truck because it wouldn't fit. i will say tho after everything was all installed you cant even tell. the radio has a lot of great features but some require addition cord to take advantage of it. To get satellite radio you need a wiring adapter. To use Iphone App Radio feature you need two more wires. I brought the correct wires to use app radio but still could not get it to work not to mention the wires themselves are very bulky. The touch screen sensitivity is perfect and changing between menus/options is great.

Pros: Touch screen sensitivity is great. Sound is great. I like that i can change themes and button colors. looks great

Cons: Have to buy additional costly wires to use some features I had to modify my dash to make unit fit. Wiring harness had poor instructions that I had to print/view online and were not included in box. couldn't get iphone app radio to work even after buying correct cords. kept saying item is not supported.

Awesome head unit, replaced an old pioneer head unit that was 7 years old. I could notice the difference in the quality of sound right away, subs even seemed to sound more powerful which is kind of weird. It is nice being able to charge my phone through the included USB cable. The screen has awesome resolution and the touchscreen is very responsive.

Pros: The ability to change to color of the buttons and screen is a nice option, also it has quite a few customization options. Screen resolution is amazing. Sound is amazing, you can adjust anything you want. Plays data DVDs, 1500 songs, USB. Able to charge phone with include USB adapter. Can play Pandora and Answer phone calls on head unit.

Cons: Have to buy a separate device to get full use of your Android phone to use apps on the head unit, like use Google maps and other apps.

Great head unit for the price. Installation in 2006 Chevy Equinox was quick and easy with all the adapters need to retain stock functions. I was pleasantly surprised how well the steering wheel controls worked with this unit. I expecting to loose a little bit of functionality, but everything works great. I bought this unit for my wife's car and she couldn't be happier. I also installed a backup camera that works seamlessly with this unit.

Pros: Ease of use. Great features. Ease of installation. Clean looking install. Looks like it came stock in the vehicle.

Cons: Doesn't seem to have quite the bass response the stock unit had, but still sounds good.

Not only was this product relatively easy to install (this was my first radio I ever installed myself), the sound and elegant look of the product went beyond my expectations!! My STI had a plain looking Head Unit and really took away from the modernness potential that the car already had. So I decided to take a leap and get this marvelous looking HU. I decided "if I am going to get the HU I might as well invest in the accessory to keep my steering wheel controls.." that was a little more difficult to wire, but I got the job done and I am VERY thankful for it! Once everything was installed I decided to go ahead and pair my iPhone with the bluetooth and perform a test call. CRYSTAL CLEAR!! I was amazed that there wasn't any back noise nor any lag. Next I put on my dubstep and seen how well the quality was. After a few mods to the EQ I was thumping in no time.. I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THE POTENTIAL FOR MY STOCK SPEAKERS!! Once I was please with all of that I decided I needed a little bit more bass (the stock STI comes with a 8in sub under the driver seat) so I went ahead and ordered the Kicker 8in hideaway to stow under the passenger seat.. (that review should be in a couple of weeks once it arrives). Speaking of shipping, I live in Germany so I ship via APO, and man was I happy to see the unit only a week after ordering!! Very Quick Delivery!! Thanks Crutchfield keep up the great service!!!

Pros: Stunning Display!! Easy Installation!! Amazing sound!!

    Cons: None at this time!

Installed this awesome unit into a 2005 Ford Explorer using the recommended DIN bracket (the Metra 95-5026 Dash Kit). I was surprised during installation that the unit will not be held securely by the DIN bracket unless a hole is drilled into the bracket where a not-supplied bolt can be used to attach the bracket to the back of the unit. I suspect the unit is not fully DIN compatible. Otherwise, the installation was easy and took a couple of hours.

Pros: Attractive, intuitive design that looks good in the car. Works well with Android.

Cons: The inability to program and use some of the functions without engaging the parking brake is very inconvenient. This is due to nanny-state laws but there has to be a better design.

Due to time constraints, I had this deck professionally installed. After some research on how easy it will "plug" into my existing premium system with steering controls, it didn't. I am taking the car back to the mobile installer for another shot. Part of the problelm is they did not install the Pioneer part to integrate my Iphone so AppRadio mirrors my phone's nav system. Other issue is steering functions do not work as advertised. More work required. May post update, but I doubt a lot of people are trying to integrate a 2006 Jetta TDI.

Pros: Massive amount of functions. Really opened up factory speakers which were already part of a premium sound package

Cons: Not as easy as advertised to install. However, my case may be unique as the goal is to integrate seamlessly into a 2006 Jetta TDI with steering controls

This is a nice unit considering it's a Pioneer, and typically I think they make cheap stuff. I installed it in my 2005 Nissan Frontier and it looks great. I adjusted the background lights to match the truck, which is nice. I will say that during the day the glare from the sun can be a bit of a pain to see the screen especially if you're trying to watch a dvd. I think that has to do with the factory location of the head unit though. It does have a lot of options when it comes to adjusting the sound quality and that's one of its best attributes. I have an amp powering my door speakers so I can't say how the power would be, but the amp sounds awesome. Overall it's a good unit that is really easy to operate, the iPod controls are the best when I plug it in via USB, and it responds well when you touch it. I gave it a 4 out of 5 and I think that's accurate.

Pros: - Ipod controls through USB are awesome! - Easy to navigate the touch screen menu - A lot of options for background and lighting

Cons: - I have a glare during the day in my 2005 Nissan Frontier - Fingerprints on the touch screen (got to keep it clean)

This radio is a good value. I ordered it at $100 off retail. I had it installed by Geek Squad in my 2003 Chevy Silverado SS. Overall, it pushes my Bose sound system pretty well. I like the touch screen and hidden CD door. The screen tilt feature is awesome. They couldn't get my steering wheel controls to work properly, and the DVD function doesn't work either. Those could be the Geek Squad not knowing entirely how to use the Interface and such. I would recommend this radio to anyone looking for an upgrade. It really looks nice and like it belongs in my truck. I haven't tried the "App mode", but the Bluetooth and the HD Radio are awesome.

Pros: Good sound. Looks like it belongs. Good value for the features. Bluetooth connected easily to my Droid Razr.

I've been driving around for a bit more than a week with this new head unit in my 2004 Toyota 4Runner, and the thing I keep thinking is "How and why did I go so long without something like this?" The Bluetooth connection to my Android smartphone works perfectly for phone calls, and usually works very well for Pandora (maybe once every five or six tries, it gets finicky about connecting, but I can make it work). The iPod connection works smoothly and flawlessly, and MP3 and other digital files (roughly 600) I burned onto a DVD sound great. I've yet to try a flash drive in the USB connector, but probably will be doing that soon. Radio reception has been very good. I have no complaints whatsoever about how the unit works, and am looking forward to spending a lot of time in the car with my new toy.

One decent-sized problem that really has nothing to do with this unit: Crutchfield's databases say it and the Metra dash kit they sent along with it will fit my car. It didn't. I had to use my Dremel to cut away some plastic from two dashboard trim pieces, and away from the Metra kit, before it fit properly and allowed the face of the head unit to fold down to allow access to the auto equalization mic and CD/DVD slot. It doesn't look terrible, but doesn't look great, either. It would have been nice to know those modifications would be required.

Pros: Does everything I need, little that I don't.

Cons: Not a fault of the unit, but I had to modify some dashboard pieces to make it fit properly in my 2004 4Runner.

head unit is a great improvement over stock. if your needing the cables to connect your smart phone do a quick shearch of the internet. i was able to get the cable for the Iphone 4s for video out put for a minimal price, including shipping. if you connect your i phone for video use, you can not use the AUX connector. it seem to be either or, but not both at the same time. some of the functions of the unit can become a little confusing.

apple maps dont do anything other than sow a map that you can zoom in or out on navfree works perfect for navigation and is free. if you download motionX maps for a fee then expect to pay additional money to be able to use it on your unit

    Disappointed Integration w/iPhone 5

This unit came highly recommended as the latest and greatest for iPhone 5 integration, app radio, etc. Unfortunately I took this advice not having any reviews of this new unit. The fit form and funtion of this unit is rather good. I have a few minor complaints in that dept. (ex. volume buttons are too small and because they're flush mounted it's difficult to push my fat fingers into the tiny hole for the volume or other buttons). Sound quality is good. Adjustablility is good.

My big complaint is vehicle integration with iPhone 5. Not only did I have to purchase expensive adaptors/cables but I'd have to have this large/cumbersome lightning to VGA adaptor and 2 cords hanging out of the dash in order to use AppRadio features. With the very short pigtail on the lightning to VGA adaptor that whole thing has to reside outside the dash near where you place your phone while driving. Really, all Pioneer needed to do was provide an exension (lightning to lighning) so that only this small cable sticks out of the dash. Or better yet, offer a flush mounted pass thru (USB or lightning) that allows a super clean installation. In my opinion, this was a huge oversite in the design of this system. It's not realistically iPhone 5 compatible if it can't be easily and cleanly integrated into your vehicle.

I will be returning this unit. It does not suit my needs or my minimum expectation. It really doesn't deliver what it claims.

Pros: Appearance, sound quality, adjustable lighting colors.

Cons: Cumbersome and expensive cabling required to use more than 1/2 the features on this unit. Can't cleanly integrate iPhone 5 usage with AppRadio into the vehicle. Control buttons are too small and difficult to push. The buttons also don't respond so well when you push them in rapid succession.

This is the best entertainment system to assure expansion and long life. HD Radio is built in, SiriusXM radio is available with an add-on module, you can listen to CDs, watch DVDs, make Bluetooth phone calls, and access apps and music from your phone with special add-on cables. It even has a place to hook up a backup camera, external inputs and an external monitor.

Pros: Expandability with a variety of entertainment sources. Good interface.

Cons: You need expensive cables to access your phone and to bring the audio input jack to the front.

Awesome deck, always have used pioneer screens, I have the extra accessories for it, the lightning adapter for my iPhone which is a first for me and works so much better than just using the USB cable, the Sirius radio, install was easy for my 2010 Toyota Tundra Crewmax that came with the stock navigation screen but I added all new aftermarket component speakers for the doors, and on the dash added new center channel and front new tweeters. The Pioneer runs two amps one for the 4 component speakers, center channel speaker, and dash tweeters and another amp for two Rockford 10" P3's and it all sounds amazing. Couldn't have asked for a better deck for the price, by far best deck for your money

Pros: Sounds amazing for aftermarket speakers and subs, easy to install

    Cons: None

This is my first touch screen and I like it a lot. The screens are intuitive, the icons are large enough to read from the driver's position. The Bluetooth connection works with my IPhone 4 (limited functionality), Pandora, and hands free calling. Functionality is increased when the IPhone is connected using the USB tether. My Audi had the Bose speaker system, and the sound quality from this unit with those speakers is fabulous, and can even the base thumps even though no subwoofer installed yet. The DVD playback is quite good, picture quality is top notch and you have the surround sound from the car speakers. The wiring requires a parking break connection, which prevents the DVD mode from being used unless the parking brake is set. The background screen choices a bit lame, and don't provide much visual effects or background theatrics, which a shame as the screen only shows what it can really do whey you watch a DVD. The only real issue I have with the unit is the screen visibility in the daytime. It looks great in low light or no light. But during full daylight the screen essentially disappears. It does have a tilt feature, that helps, but its not much, otherwise you can't see it. Hands free calling is easy to use, and will sync with the contacts on my iPhone. The sound quality when using the phone could be better. I have a JVC unit in my Wife's vehicle, and seems they all use the same cheesy remote microphone. Overall, I like the unit, but feel it should cost in $300 range.

Pros: Sound quality is fantastic, Large Touch screen is well designed and quite intuitive to use.

Cons: Visibility of the screen disappears in the daylight.

It's everything I ever wanted in a car radio and more! After I installed this radio I feel like I am riding in one of those new cars with the big touch screen. The screen is 7 inches and it has everything. I can use the bluetooth to automatically connect to my cellphone and I can see everyone in my address book appear on the screen. And when I make a phone call the radio automatically fades out to hear the person on the phone through the car's speakers. When I hang up the radio comes back on. I love the touch screen as well as the buttons that you can customize with different colors. There is also somethins called Mixtrax that can make the music sound like there is a DJ in the car by filling in the gaps of songs you have then making them match the beat of the music. The sound is incredible! So many options to make the music sound to your liking. I also like the fact that you can watch a dvd too. It is backup camera ready so I'm waiting for my backup camera to come in so to that I can hook that up. If you encounter any problems like I've did installing the radio Crutchfield was a phone call away. I had to call them two times but they knew exactly what I needed to do. The front screen folds down to reveal the disc drive. You can also tilt the screen too if that needs adjusting while viewing the front screen. There is also a button that you can press to search for the strongest radio stations then save them on your radio. I thought that was cool too. Buy it!!

Pros: 8 level equalizer, background motion display, blue tooth built in for connecting to cellphone and iPad, HD radio, DVD player, you can add a back up camera, Mixtrax so music sounds like a DJ is playing the music, USB input, touch screen, changeable color buttons

Cons: You have to buy add on equipment for the Siriux Radio to work.

I bought Pioneer's top of the line Mirrorlink AVH-x5600BHS for its mirrorlink feature. But you have to buy a cable and an interface. The interface works with only a few phones and i have a Galaxy S3 which they told me would work.....but not unless it's under version 4.3. So...if you want to use mirrolink you can't update your phone and my phone automatically updates. Here is what Pioneer told me when i complained: **********Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. The Galaxy S3 should work with MirrorLink, as long as the OS on your phone is less than 4.3. Samsung needs to provide an update for their DriveLink application. When people upgrade the OS, the application does not work properly. One customer said he downloaded the DriveLink direct from Samsung and had success, they have newer version than what is posted in the Play Store.************ Beware of buying this stereo. Its a cool radio but doesn't do what it's supposed to do and Pioneer won't address this issue and blames phone upgrades for the mirrorlink not working with the phones. The mirrorlink interface is a required addition and more money for this radio to make it do all the things you see in the video. Without the interface it's just a very expensive DVD Player HD radio.

Pros: Cool HD radio and DVD Player with big screen.

Cons: Mirrorlink will only work with very few phones and after you update your phone the mirrorlink interface may not work at all. Pioneer's Customer service and Tech Support suck. Read other reviews on the interface which is a required option. Look specifically at the PIONEER CD-ML100 MirrorLink

This is my first aftermarket head unit in roughly ten years, so I will admit things have changed drastically since my last excursion into this realm.

This head unit is very nice, somewhat user friendly, and attractive in the dash when turned off. My greatest frustration with is the lack of ability to dim the unit without the parking brake applied. This unit has a default brightness setting that is very bright, so this should be readily available. The wiring does not recognize automatic dimming on my old school 06 Silverado either.

I find myself turning the screen off while I'm driving because it is just too busy for my taste.

If I had known that it wouldn't dim with my headlights or that the adjustment wasn't available without the brake set I wouldn't have purchased and gone through the install.

Hope this helps someone else. :)

finally got my Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS installed in my 2008 Scion tc. The head unit did everything & more with the exception of my review for the Pioneer CD-IV203 cable kit to pull video & apps from my iphone 5. The unit has a smooth look to it & if fits in place of the factory head unit & I'm still able to use my waterfall radio cover that came with the car because of the installation kit. Also, I added the Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Interface with Toyota ASWC harness. I gave the value 4 stars, because even though it's a good product, I hate spending money...lol

Pros: The sound, look, touchscreen, HD radio, Pandora, CD & DVD player, Mixtrax with ipod.

Cons: can't really say if this is a con, still working on trying to get the video & apps to mirror from my iphone 5, my Pioneer CD-IV203 VGA & Lightening USB adapter is giving me an "Incompatible USB" notification to my Pioneer screen.

I installed the Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS 3 weeks ago into my 2012 Expedition. I am powering four 6x8 Infinity Kappa 2 ohm speakers with an Alpine MRP-F450 using the Pioneer's 4V Preamp outputs. Very Loud (4 x 100W @ 2 ohms) and crystal clear sound. LESSON #1: BUY THE OPTIONAL MIC AND RUN THE AUTO EQ SETUP !!!!! This should be the #1 sales pitch for the Pioneer. I pity the fool who does not unleash the AutoEQ weapon! It does FAR MORE than you can do manually using the EQ bands...it does time alignment, etc. Somehow, it raised the soundstage in my car by 2 feet. Hint: If Auto EQ setup is "greyed out" on your menu, you need to be sure you have "Source" turned off, and no illegal brake bypass installed. The only shortfall is that once you have run AutoEQ, you can only pick from 5 preset curves- you cannot further customize the 8 EQ bands manually within the AutoEQ domain. LESSON #2 I used the iDataLink Maestro with the Connec harness and it works awesome for the steering wheel controls. I ran a longer USB cord from the Maestro into the glovebox so I can easily re-program the steering wheel controls with a laptop in the future. I also ran longer AUX and USB cords from the back of the unit to my center console for future convenience. OTHER: The HD radio sounds great. The Bluetooth phone works great too. REAR CAMERA: I added the Accele RVCLPMB rear view camera and it looks great too. Unreal quality even in low light. I was worried that I was going too cheap on the camera, but no regret!

    Pros: AutoEQ rules!

Cons: Wish I could further customize the AutoEQ presets.

I upgraded my 04 Tundra factory radio with the AVH-X5600BHS and all I can say is wow! This unit is feature-packed with all the modern amenities. Super easy to use and the screen menu is very intuitive. Perfect interface with my iPhone 5 via bluetooth and the touch screen commands are similar to the iPhone so that's a big plus. I love the screen and the customizable color themes. The layout is very clean and simple-no tiny buttons and dials to clutter the face. DVD picture is very sharp. Big screen, big letters-perfect for my failing eyesight. This unit sounds great and a 10 on the "Coolness" scale.

Pros: Easy to use, very intuitive screen menus, big and sharp screen, uncluttered look.

Cons: Pricey but I think it's worth it, manual is written in very tiny letters. Other than that, no big complaints here.

It was very easy to install and the dash kit fit perfectly. The only thing that was the slots for the screws to attach dash mount to car were not very strong. When attaching it to the receiver the screws bowed the plastic even while take great care not to tighten to much.

Pros: Hands free phone, using my ipod cable, displaying the songs playing from the radio station

Cons: I wouldn't be stupid enought to watch a DVD while going down the road, but it would be nice if your passengers could watch a movie while on an out of town trip. It seems kind of useless to be able to only watch a dvd while parked. If I'm parked, I'm not going to sit in my car to watch a movie.

    Touchscreen Display

Motorized 6.95" LCD Touchscreen: The Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS features a 6.95" TFT Active Matrix, 16:9 widescreen touchscreen display. The resolution of the display is 800 x 480 (RGB), for a total of 1,152,000 pixels. The touchscreen display allows you to control this unit and a paired Bluetooth device, or a connected component such as your iPod/iPhone or USB mass storage class device. Menus appear on screen for making function choices, audio adjustments, and setting up the system. The unit's touchscreen display is motorized. The 6.95" touchscreen display electronically slides down to load and eject your DVD/CD discs. The angle of the motorized touchscreen display can also be adjusted to five different positions to meet your viewing needs in the car.

    • Widescreen Modes: You can choose from the following widescreen modes when playing back video - Full (4:3 picture is enlarged in the horizontal direction only; enabling you to enjoy a 4:3 picture without any omissions), Zoom (4:3 picture is enlarged in the same proportion both vertically and horizontally; ideal for a 16:9 screen), Normal (4:3 picture is displayed as it is).
    • Picture Adjustments: You can store numerous video settings for the head unit's video source and rear-view camera; including brightness (adjusts the black intensity), contrast (adjusts contrast) color (adjusts color saturation), temperature (adjust the color temperature), and Dimmer (adjusts brightness).
    • OSD + Backgrounds: The color of the on-screen display can be set to red, amber, green, blue or white. The background can be set to one of four preset still images, two moving images, a stored JPEG image, spectrum analyzer, or turned Off.
Note: The Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS offers English, Chinese, French, Portuguese, and Spanish text.

Favorites: You can register the desired menu items on the AVH-X5600BHS's "Favorites" menu screen. Registering your favorite menu items allows you to quickly jump to the registered menu item by a simple touch on the favorites menu. Up to 12 menu items can be registered as a "Favorite".

Front-Panel Control w/ Custom Illumination: In addition to the touchscreen controls, the unit includes frequently used buttons along the bottom edge of the screen. The color of the button illumination can be set to red, amber, green, blue, white, or scan (constantly cycling through the color spectrum). You can also create a custom color to match your vehicle's interior lighting (112 colors to choose from).

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose among twelve patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Dimmer: To prevent the display from being too bright at night, the display is automatically dimmed when the car's headlights are turned on. The automatic dimmer function only works when the orange/white illumination wire in the wiring harness is connected to the vehicle's headlight circuit.

Parking Brake Interlock: This unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video programming and operating certain controls when the vehicle is in motion. In order to watch video on the in-dash monitor, the vehicle must be stopped with the parking brake engaged. The head unit's light green wire must be connected to your vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. The head unit's touchscreen will display "Attention! Viewing of front seat video source while driving is strictly prohibited", if you try to watch a video when your vehicle is in motion.

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double-DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is also an optional double-DIN sleeve (130ADTV133, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to Euro-mount or custom mount the Pioneer head unit in your vehicle. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    iPod/AppRadio Control

iPod Connectivity w/ DAC Bypass: The Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS supports direct connection of your 30-pin or Lightning-connector iPod/iPhone through its rear-panel USB port, RGB input, and 3.5mm jack. The AVH-X5600BHS offers audio/video playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of select Apple iPod/iPhone models. It also provides a special AppRadio mode for iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5/5C/5S users which allows you to access a variety of online music, navigation, and other helpful apps. The AVH-X5600BHS allows your iPod/iPhone's music library to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter (bypassing iPod/iPhone DAC), allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 91dB.

    • Lightning Dock Connector: If you have an iPhone 5/5C/5S with the Lightning-connector, you can use Pioneer's CD-IV203 VGA Interface Cable Kit and the Apple Lighting-to-VGA adapter 472LT2VGA (both sold separately) to access stored music and videos, music and video apps, plus AppRadio Mode for playback of advance applications on the Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS. This setup also requires your iPhone 5/5C/5S be paired via Bluetooth to the head unit. If you desire only music playback from your Lightning-connector Apple device, simply use Pioneer's Lightning-to-USB cable (130CDIU52, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the AVH-X5600BHS.
    • 30-Pin Dock Connector: If you have an iPhone 4/4S with a 30-pin dock connector, use the Pioneer CD-IU201S RGB/USB cable (130IU201S, sold separately) to enjoy playback of stored music and videos, music and video apps, plus access to AppRadio Mode for playback of advance applications on the Pioneer AVH-X5600BHS. If you do not own and iPhone 4/4S, but do have another older 30-pin dock connector iPod/iPhone, use the Pioneer CD-IU201V iPod Video cable (130IU201V, sold separately) for playback of music and movies files stored on your device, as well as music apps. Simply use Pioneer's dock connector-to-USB cable (130CDIU51, sold separately) or the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device if you desire stored music and music app playback only.
