Our take on the Pioneer MVH-X560BT

by Jon Paulette
Pioneer

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Welcome to the digital age

If you're done with discs and ready for an all-digital entertainment experience, Pioneer's MVH-X560BT digital media receiver (there's no CD player) lets you enjoy music from your iPhone® or iPod®, select Android™ phones, or a USB thumb drive when you're on the road. You'll also get Bluetooth® hands-free calling, Pandora® control with iPhone or Android, and App Control. The big, multi-line display makes it easy to see the artist and song info, along with your system settings. You can select separate colors for the display and the control keys, for over 200,000 possible combinations.

Who needs CDs, anyway?

You can plug your iPod and iPhone into this receiver's USB port and make music selections through the receiver. As a bonus, the receiver will also charge your device while you're playing your tunes. If you own an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, you can take advantage of Siri® Eyes Free functionality with a touch of a button, accessing a variety of functions with your voice commands.

Android users can control their music via Bluetooth or plug into the front panel USB port and play music while getting a charge. You can also plug in a thumb drive and enjoy MP3, WMA, and WAV files, or use the aux input to connect an MP3 player or portable satellite radio tuner.

Pioneer MVH-X560BT Digital Media Receiver

Pioneer's MVH-X560BT receiver features a multi-line display with over 200,000 color options.

Built-in Bluetooth™

The MVH-X560BT features built-in Bluetooth, so you can enjoy hands-free calling and wireless music streaming while you drive. You'll speak into the included external microphone and hear the other end of the conversation through your vehicle's speakers. With “Guest Mode,” you can add or replace a mobile device with ease -- a great feature for a family car with multiple drivers, or one driver with multiple devices.

Compact size, big-time performance

With no CD player to worry about, Pioneer's designers were able to fit lots of features into a chassis that's 40% shallower than their CD receivers. Pioneer's powerful MOSFET amplifier gives you outstanding sound, while Advanced Sound Retriever (ASR) technology brings back the musical detail lost when you compress music. A 5-band graphic equalizer lets you adjust the sound to suit your tastes, and you'll appreciate the three sets of preamp outputs if you're adding amps to your system.

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Technology: The MVH-X560BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth ver. 3.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer MVH-X560BT.

SPP + USB Pairing w/ Guest Mode: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the MVH-X560BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). When your paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically pairs the two units. Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this head unit, but nly one device can be used at a time. You can also pair your Apple iPhone by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display. In addition, the MVH-X560BT features "Guest Mode", which allows you to add and replace a mobile device instantly to the receiver. Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The MVH-X560BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/HSP/OPP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The MVH-X560BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the MVH-X560BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Dialing (Siri only): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or 5/5C/5S via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (with Song/Artist Info): The Pioneer MVH-X560BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. The MVH-X560BT will be able to control basic playback features; Play, Pause, & Skip Tracks (app must also support). The head unit will also display your  music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

    USB & Android Integration

Rear-Panel USB Input (Android Compliant): The unit's rear-panel USB (type-A) port and 58" USB extension cable allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) or USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) compliant device; such as your Android smartphone, portable digital audio player, or USB thumbdrive. The USB port enables audio playback & control of MP3, WMA, and WAV music files stored on your portable USB MSC/MTP device through the Pioneer MVH-X560BT. USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the digital media receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

    • File/Track Name List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA albums and tracks on a connected USB device, so you can easily access your music. Music files are listed first by Artist name, then by Album name, and finally by Song title.
    • Song/Artist Information: During MP3/WMA playback, the unit displays any recorded ID3 Tag (ver. 1.x/2.x) and WMA Tag information; including artist, song, and album name.
    • Playback Controls: The Pioneer digital media receiver provides basic operations like Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random for USB device playback. When a compatible Android smartphone is connected, the head unit will control music playback functions; you will not be able to control your music from the smartphone.
Note: The unit's rear-panel USB port supports Android OS 4.0+ (Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean) as a Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) device. It also supports Android OS 2.2+ (Froyo/Gingerbread) as a Mass Storage Class (MSC) device; as of 11/25/2013. The receiver does not support Android OS 3.1+ (Honeycomb) or other Android operating systems not listed.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: The Pioneer MVH-X560BT supports the following types of MP3/WMA/WAV files loaded onto a USB mass storage class device.

    Media Type USB (MSC/MTP)
    File System FAT 12/16/32
Playable File Types   MP3: bit rate of 8-320 kbps w/ sampling rate of 32, 44.1, 48 kHz

Tags ID3 tags (ver.1.0/1.1/2.2/2.3/2.4), WMA tags

Media App Control (for Android): The Media App Control mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps on your Bluetooth-paired Android smartphone (2.3+)  through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Media App Control lets you take control of compatible music apps on your paired Android device through the Pioneer MVH-X560BT. Media App Control allows you to play, pause, and change tracks from a compatible music app directly from the controls on the Pioneer head unit. The app's name (i.e. "iHeartAuto"), station identification, and song/artist information will be displayed on the head unit's LCD screen (when applicable, depending on app). Note: Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.

Rear-Panel Aux Input: The MVH-X560BT is equipped with a rear-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player.

    AM/FM + Pandora Radio

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Pandora Internet Radio (for iPhone & Android): The free Pandora App (either from iTunes Apps or Google Play) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer MVH-X560BT using your USB-connected Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) or Bluetooth paired Android smartphone. Your Apple iPhone must be connected to the MVH-X560BT via the appropriate Pioneer iPod connector cable (130CDIU51/130CDIU52, sold separately) or the connector-cable that came with your iPhone. Your Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Pioneer MVH-X560BT. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. The MVH-X560BT provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information.

    • Station List w/ Shuffle: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z). You can also listen to songs played randomly from various stations within your Station List.
    • New Stations: New stations can be created based on the current songs or artists playing.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or smartphone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada and only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The MVH-X560BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the MVH-X560BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

2V/6CH Preamp Outputs + Sub Control: The Pioneer MVH-X560BT features three pair of 2.0-volt preamp outputs (Front/Rear/Subwoofer). The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The Pioneer MVH-X560BT lets you adjust the subwoofer preamp output's phase (normal/reverse) and volume (+6 to -24).

Crossovers: The MVH-X560BT employs high pass and low pass crossovers to tailor the head unit to your connected speakers.

    • HPF: The head unit's 12dB/octave high pass filter only allows frequencies higher than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) to your front and rear speakers through the unit's speaker-level or line-level outputs.
    • LPF: The subwoofer preamp output features an18dB/octave low pass filter so only frequencies lower than those in the selected range (50, 63, 80, 100, 125Hz) are output to your connected subwoofer.

Equalizer: The Pioneer MVH-X560BT features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source (except for USB/iPod/Pandora); while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Audio Level Settings: The Pioneer MVH-X560BT digital media receiver offers a variety of audio settings to tailor the bass, treble, and volume level to your preference.

    • Bass Boost The MVH-X560BT features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone/iPad. It is also not supported by USB MTP devices.

    Display Features

Detachable Face Security: The Pioneer MVH-X560BT in-dash digital media receiver features detachable face security. No face case is included with this unit. An optional soft face case (142DFC1X, sold separately) can be purchased for this unit. A face-fixing screw is supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Multi-Line LCD w/ Ever Scroll: The Pioneer MVH-X560BT features a multi-line LCD with LED backlighting. You can easily view file/folder lists from your MP3/WMA music files, radio presets, or data from your connected iPod/iPhone (up to 13 characters). When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. It will auto-scroll up to 64 characters. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 5 preset colors (White/Red/Amber/Green/Blue), customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors. In addition, the brightness and contrast of the display can be adjusted. You can also select "ILLUMI FX"  to enable an illumination effect (on the display and keys) that will slowly fade in and out in a set pattern when a command or operation is made from the head unit.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose among twelve patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music. You can also choose which area's of the head unit's face illuminates; select Display, Display/Buttons, or Off.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The MVH-X560BT comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause source, change the display, and adjust the audio. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel). In addition, you can answer/end calls from a Bluetooth connected smartphone.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Good product overall, but horrible instructions and mediocre usability

Written By Brett_x, Maine on Sunday, April 06, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'll think twice about buying Pioneer equipment in the future. I have a pioneer home stereo that I was frustrated by too. It works okay now that I've worked through a few things, but the sound isn't as good as the factory (Pioneer) that came with my Scion XB and the usability is equally [minorly] disappointing. If you're considering buying this, read the manual first. There are 2 sections, Using it, and Installing it. No index. Can't just flip to the thing you want to know about. You have to remember where it is. And it wasn't written like an instruction manual. It was written as pieces of information you might need to know. And it missed one thing I needed to know. The Orange wire: what is it? Do I hook it up to the other orange wire.. which is the only other wire? Nope, that blows fuses. I called Crutchfield and the tech said it's some kind of ground. As you can imagine, the stereo works fine with it disconnected (and a new fuse). There's no description or mention of the orange wire in the manual. None.

It took me a while to get used to the navigation. And maybe there are some tricks I have yet to learn, but I'm not a fan of their implementation. I have yet to be able to master navigating my always connected iPod. Maybe it's me, but I'm not new at this.
    Pros:
    Rear USB. Bluetooth works great.
    Cons:
Horrible user / installation manual. Read the wire diagram part. Try to match what you have before you by. Minor issues: This thing is a dust magnet. I cannot keep it clean. The face is also very shiny, which looks great when it's off, but makes it hard to see in daylight due to reflections. A matte finish on the face would be so much better. The sound quality, while still using my factory speakers, is not as good as factory Pioneer Scion stereo. No Mute. Huh? Yeah. No mute.

    Great Little Unit

Written By John, Tennessee on Sunday, April 06, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It took me quite a while to decide on the right head unit for my truck. I ended up getting the Pioneer MVH-X560BT based on feedback from a Crutchfield advisor - and I couldn't be happier. One surprise (as another reviewer noted) is how short/shallow this unit actually is. Since it's a media-only receiver, it doesn't need the space for a CD player mechanism. This has the added bonus of giving you extra room behind the unit for the wiring.

One of my absolute requirements was having a rear USB connection. I have a dedicated iPod for the truck, so being able to leave it in the armrest and connected to the USB in the back is the only way to go.

I paired the head unit with a Clarion XC1410 amplifier. I was a little concerned that the pre-amp output on the Pioneer was only 2 volts, but it seems to be working fine.

I don't care for the Mixtrax or other visual feedback that are available on this unit, but that can all easily be turned off so that you get track information and the clock.

I'd recommend this unit for anyone considering a media-only receiver.
    Pros:
Good sound quality Easy installation Rear USB connection

This stereo is great, I particularly enjoy the various numerous amount of display lights on the stereo. The remote comes very handy and the best function i enjoy about this stereo is the ease of connecting to my phones bluetooth. as soon as the stereo turns on and i have it set to bluetooth mode, it detects my phone right away and starts playing my music. The mic also comes in handy for calls while driving. Overall a great unit by Pioneer

    simple pioneer deck

Very simple and affordable deck. Just radio and digital media. This unit is small and easier to install than other receivers because of it. The Bluetooth is handy and easy to hook-up, and Pioneer (as always) gives you great control of your sound with a multi-hz eq.
    Pros:
Great sound shaping, inexpensive, fairly simple operation
    Cons:
Bright display even fully dimmed, can't run any but 8ohm speakers

    Good Product Poor Installation Instructions

Written By JackD., Sebastopol, CA on Tuesday, April 01, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For some reason the Star ratings are not working with my version of Firefox. I like the radio and the bluetooth connection is flawless. I may need to relocate the microphone because the sound is muted. The installation into my 2002 BMW 330i could have gone more smoothly. The problem is the Scosche amplifier is too small to fit into the space vacated by the factory radio. The problem was solved by extending the wires connecting the amplifier to the vehicle plug allowing it to be stashed into a niche behind the factory radio enclosure. Unfortunately I came to this decision after trying for hours to get everything to fit using the included connectors. A much quicker installation would be to provide 2 multi-wire color coded cables that allow placing the amplifier behind the glove box which is easily removed. There is ample space behind the glove box for all kinds or accessory equipment.
    Pros:
Looks good when installed, there are many functions and they all work well.
    Cons:
Requires the Scosche amplifier which is too large to fit into the factory radio enclosure with the radio. This is not that much of a problem as long as the installation instructions and connection harnesses address the issue.

Nice clean look. I love the rear inputs! USB & AUX cords were long enough to run all the way to my center consul. Sounds great. Nice ability to tune to my liking.
    Pros:

    Cons:

the stereo was quite simple to install it also had a lot of cool features that I liked.
    Pros:
I love the fact that I can change the foremost any color I want to want to display and that it also works with my cell phone via bluetooth. also the fact that auxiliary port and usb port have acquired that come out the back allow me to place them anywhere I'd like instead of having wires hanging from my stereo this is a big plus in one of the main reasons why I purchased this stereo.
    Cons:
I will say the menu quite confusing. and trying to see this display during the day is horrible also it could use a little more power because some Kenwoods have 22rms when this is only 14rms.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was very easy to install. I've done it many times before and this installed just as it should. The operation of it took about 5 minutes to figure out and set up and there has been no need to adjust it since. Microphone was installed on the steering column and works great. USB was routed to the glove box and works perfectly. Installed in a 2003 F150 SuperCrew.
    Pros:
Easy install. Intuitive menus. Choose from lots of colors to match your interior. Great value! I highly recommend this unit.
    Cons:
Just one. I wish it would play music with DRM from itunes, but I think that's an Apple issue, not a Pioneer issue.

    Great HU for the price!

I ordered this HU as a temporary upgrade for my '13 Mustang until Pioneers new Navigation units come out. I had the AVIC D3 in my last car and loved it. I chose this unit because of the features, 3 sets of RCA outputs, sub control, 5 band EQ and Bluetooth. The sound is just as good as the AVIC I had at a fraction of the price. Well worth the money.

Whoa is that display ever bright

Written By Joe O, North Carolina on Saturday, March 15, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty good DMP for the money. Who wants to fumble with CD's now that you can stream audio from a phone or load up all your tunes on a USB stick? This unit integrates very well with both iPhone and Android, Pandora and PowerAmp are easily controlled from the front panel. Unfortunately I will probably be swapping this for something else as it has one fatal flaw: I cannot dim the "Downtown Tokyo" display enough to allow me to drive safely at night. There is no dimmer wire connection to your vehicle, only a one position "Dimmer" setting which still leaves it way to bright for my use. Also as mentioned here by others the ergonomics are pretty poor: trying to adjust the flimsy volume knob results in kicking the unit into the Menu settings 50% of the time. Top those flaws off with the inability to play FLAC files and I'm looking now for a replacement.
    Pros:
Compact, Easy to install. Sounds great. Integrates very well with Android via Bluetooth.
    Cons:
Display cannot be dimmed enough for night driving. Volume knob is too easily "pushed" into configuration mode when attempting to change volume. Does not play FLAC files.

Perfect for anyone that has an issue with depth issues in dash and don't necessarily need a CD player. Syncs to android phone easily to play Pandora radio. Mic picks up a lot of noise tho.
    Pros:
Easy of use, excellent quality for less money, very shallow mount depth at only 4 inches. Internet radio and thumb drive menus are easy to navigate threw controls.
    Cons:
External microphone picks up a lot of noise.

Easy install in 2000 E320. Just take out factory stereo with tools provided by Crutchfield, cut factory harness in half as described and plug in. Done in about an hour. Had to tap into cigarette lighter for power. Look up YouTube video on how to remove center console.

This went in easily and was easier to set up than a number of previous units. It immediately found my iPhone and connected to it without searching through layers of menus like some other brands. I can use the phone, siri, or stream music vi bluetooth. I am still learning my way around the unit, but it is great so far. The sound is much improved over my previous unit.
    Pros:
Ease of setup Ease of use Fit and finish
    Cons:
There is a bit of glare

    Simply Amazing

Written By MRT, Eugene, OR on Sunday, March 02, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love my tech gadgets and have replaced the stereo in every car I've owned... I have to say that this is the first to exceed my expectations. It does everything very well - simple and intuitive. The button layout makes it easy to get to all features, although I did have to read the manual to figure out how to do a couple things. Much easier than the JVC Excelon that I put in my truck last year. Love the quality of the iphone integration. I like the fine adjustment of volume, others seem to have too few steps where levels seem to jump. I have never been compelled to write a review before, but I am seriously happy with this purchase!
    Pros:
Excellent iPhone integration. Comes with all cables (AUX / USB) that you'll want when installing, Bluetooth audio streaming. Controls are easy to use after you spend just a little time with the unit. Custom colors allowed me to match the green dash lights in my old Honda perfectly!
    Cons:
I miss the HD radio feature that I have in my other vehicles. Had to read the manual to figure out how to adjust the custom colors. No "auto dim" with the lights, but it does offer an easy "Dimmer" button AND you can set the colors and brightness levels for both regular and dim settings.

    Good Product

Written By Max, Syracuse, NY on Saturday, March 01, 2014
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good Product, many options to play your music from. Install pain free thanks to included kit, wiring harness and antenna adapter from Crutchfield for my 07 Altima. I've wired microphone to the steering column, USB cable to glove compartment and AUX cable to small compartment below climate controls. I don't get people who list one of the cons of the unit that there is no front USB connection. Sort product by feature and buy one with front USB port, don't neg the product because it has rear USB connection, which is actually a great plus because it creates clean installation and eliminates wires dangling from your dash. Definitely improvement in sound clarity and quality from factory radio receiver. Menu can be a little better and as everyone stated manual sucks unless you download it on iPad as pdf - then its bright and clear. Screen has glare during sunlight and I have to switch from one color preset to another during night and day driving. That is the most annoying thing with this unit - read Cons section.
    Pros:
Many connectivity options. Rear USB and AUX inputs. Build in bluetooth for phone calls. Great phone features - you can see list of missed, received and dialed calls as well as search your phone book. You can also set contact shortcuts for most frequently dialed numbers. All cables included.
    Cons:
Screen scratches easily. I wish there was easier way to adjust audio settings - using the wheel takes some turning and pushing - not safe when driving. Setting your color to match dashboard is great - too bad color looks completely different when you use dimmer. To set custom color you have to set it twice - for key color and screen color - annoying. Also custom amber color for Altima is invisible during the day. I have to swich it to white. Then during the night I have to switch it back.

This is a pretty decent unit. It works well and does what it is needed to do.
    Pros:
    - Fits well - Easy install
    Cons:
    - USB port is on the back of the receiver. Thus you must run wires forward. - Text on the display is hard to read. The blocky text and icons are definitely not easy to read. - The volume knob requires MANY turns to adjust the volume majorly.

    Pioneer MVH-X560BT

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Sedan. Original radio was the standard AM/FM Cassette player WITHOUT Bose. Anyone installing this in a GM sedan, that has a deeper dash, will probably not need to use the 1" extender. I did a dry fit before connecting the harness, and the unit fits flush and there is plenty of room behind the unit, so it does not need to be adjusted. It was a perfect fit, with plenty of room in the dash cavity. In fact, the original radio is almost 2" deeper than the Pioneer unit. A perfect fit.
    Pros:
Only EVERYTHING! Nice to update a 13 year old vehicle with a digital receiver. The USB and AUX ports work perfectly to stream your music, And the Blue Tooth pairing to my Droid phone are flawless. Routing the wiring seems to be the biggest issue, but that is no fault of the unit or Crutchfield. Being a little creative and taking a few extra minutes to devise a plan works wonders. The harness matches up, the remote works, and the cabin of my car is filled with music again.
    Cons:
If there are cons, I surely can't think of one.

I got the Pioneer MVH-X560BT to replace my old Eclipse CD 3100 that crapped out on me. The unit was easy to install and it sounds awesome, great highs, mids and lows. All the features are easy to use and work great. I love the hands free bluetooth phone feature makes life alot easier when driving. Love the 6 preamp outputs, gives me plenty of room to expand my system. Two thumbs up for the Pioneer MVH-X560BT
    Pros:
easy to install, great features, easy to use and control the function. Great sound. 6 Preamp outputs allow plenty of options when it comes to adding subs and amps to your system.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit offers terrific value for money. It is compact, easy to install, and it greatly enhanced the performance of the stock speakers in my VW GTi. Some of its menus are counter-intuitive, but that is just a matter of familiarization. Bluetooth pairing was very straightforward. The owner's manual was printed with faint ink on poor quality paper, using minute fonts. At times I needed a magnifying glass to figure it out. In addition, its content is poorly organized, and its language is often opaque. That is my only complaint. Otherwise, I highly recommend this unit.
    Pros:
Easy install. Great improvement in sound quality, without changing speakers.
    Cons:
    Dreadful owner's manual.

Great stereo... To hook it to my phone all I did is turn on my blue tooth on my droid RAZR mini and they linked automatic. Very good sound for the stereo hooked to my 6.5 boss speakers with 93 db sensitivity. For my sub I have 10 in boss shallow mount with 200 RMS watt amp. The sub control of the head unit works great. I highly recommend this stereo.. Thank you Crutchfield... I would buy this unit again.
    Cons:
None. Have patience and read your owners manual.

Haven't had a chance to really put this unit through it's paces yet, but so far, I'm really liking my choice in picking this make/model. Installation was a breeze for my 2003 Ford Ranger. The installation kit and instructions were easy to use. Looks like the HU was specifically made for my truck. Crutchfield technicians are the best! 4 one-minute phone calls helped out an old guy with very little confidence in every step of the installation.
    Pros:
Good looking, high quality piece of equipment. Sound is awesome, even with the stock Ford speakers.
    Cons:
Owner's manual not that helpful in learning how to use the different capabilities of the radio. Only reason for a 3 on "Ease of Use." I'll figure it out...

This is pretty great! I love having it in my truck. The manuals Crutchfield provides made it really easy to install.
    Pros:
It's smaller size because on not having a CD player makes the install really easy because it leaves a lot of room behind to work with. The sound is great. BT connects easily and sounds great for both music and phone.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm overall very happy with the unit. It sounds much better than the factory unit with my same stock speakers. I never played CD's in the car much, so don't miss that capability at all. Now I have most of my music collection instantly available from my phone. It's nice that you can dial in any color to match your cars illumination color, but it would be nice if you could dim it even more for night driving. The manual is very bad, plus you will need good eyes to read the tiny print. Once I figured it all out, it's been working great.
    Pros:
Great sound, connects to the phone flawlessly, call quality good on both ends.
    Cons:
The manual is bad, illumination when dimmed is still too bright.

I got what I paid for which was a single din rear USB, iphone 5 compatible with bluetooth, variable color choice, high pass filter for rear amp. The 5 band equalizer is ok, but you have to be an audio engineer in order to understand the what the decibel settings mean. I have a clarion HU and its menu is so much more user friendly.

It defaulted the sub off, which waisted many hours of my time troubleshooting my wiring and amp connections. It found my phone immediately and connected without any more effort. There was no audio extension cable to connect to the rear AUX, so I didn't connect anything to it. Still new and confusing, but hopefully someone will do a youtube review showing how to set it up better.
    Pros:
Multi-color display with different zones, large volume knob, dimmer button on demand. Easy connection between phone and bluetooth
    Cons:
Menu is difficult to find quick due to abbreviations and forcing back button. Directions are horrible due to small text, no pictures or diagrams, and abbreviations

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This little radio Power House packs a punch. The Bluetooth hooked up with my Windows 8 phone with ease and it works Great! "Hint" I mounted the mic behind the steering wheel.
    Pros:
Very adjustable sound, great Bluetooth, Great for tight fit locations. Nice display.
    Cons:
I had to use an antenna booster to pick up local stations. the volume takes a lot of turns to to turn up or down
