    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 3.0: The FH-X720BT is equipped with built-in Bluetooth (ver. 3.0), allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.6 (Hands Free Profile), OPP 1.1 (Object Push Profile), PBAB 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.3 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.5 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Pioneer FH-X720BT.

SPP + USB Pairing w/ Guest Mode: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the FH-X720BT without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible devices can be paired to this head unit.

    • USB Pairing for iPhone: You can also pair your Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) by simply connecting it to the Pioneer head unit via USB and following a single prompt on the head unit's display.
    • Guest Mode: "Guest Mode" allows you to add and replace a 3rd mobile device instantly to the receiver; Guest Mode is a great feature for a family vehicle with multiple drivers or a driver with multiple devices because it allows users to pair and delete devices easily without a lengthy registration or deletion process.
    • Dual Phone Connect: Once the pairing process is complete, the head unit will automatically connect two phones when in the vehicle to make and receive calls and stream music from both mobile devices.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The FH-X720BT supports wireless hands-free communication (HFP/PBAB) for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. And, thanks to the latest Hands-Free Profile (HFP 1.6) with wideband speech capability, the FH-X720BT provides more natural sound quality and details during wireless calls. The head unit will display the caller's information and an audible ring tone will be heard through your vehicle's speaker during an incoming call. You can manually answer an incoming call or have the unit automatically answer the call. The FH-X720BT allows you to carry on a phone conversation from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone using the head unit's external microphone and your car audio speakers. During a conversation you can adjust the volume, as well as switch between the Private Mode (talking directly on your cell phone) and the Hands Free Mode. Using the FH-X720BT, you can dial a phone number in one of the following ways:

    • Phone Book: The phone book in your Bluetooth enabled cellular phone will be transferred automatically when the phone is paired to this unit. After finding the number you want to call in the phone book from the head unit, you can select the entry and make the call. If a lot of numbers are registered in the phone book, you can search for a phone number by the contact person's name alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Presets: You can easily store up to six phone numbers as presets for speed dialing.
    • Call Log: The most recent calls dialed, received, and missed are stored in memory. You can browse them and call numbers from these lists.
    • Voice Dialing (Siri only): When paired and connected with an iPhone 4S or later via Bluetooth, the Pioneer head unit has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. You'll be able to dial a phone number or contact via voice command.
Note: The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found on the front-panel of many aftermarket or factory radios. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip. The microphone measures 0.475" (diameter) x 1.445" (depth). The unit is not equipped with an integrated microphone.

Wireless Audio Streaming (w/ Advanced Music Navigation): The Pioneer FH-X720BT also supports wireless audio playback (AD2P) and control (AVRCP) of a Bluetooth enabled audio player or smartphone. The head unit can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or music apps you have downloaded on your device. In addition to basic playback functions (Play/Pause, FF/RW, Skip, Random/Repeat), the FH-X720BT lets you browse your stored music by Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, etc. (AVRCP 1.4+ phones only). The head unit will also display your music's song information; such as Artist name and Song/Album title (app must also support). When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call.

Siri Eyes-Free Control: When paired and connected with an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth (not USB), the Pioneer FH-X720BT has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press and hold head unit's phone key to engage Siri and use the included microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the FH-X720BT and its microphone. You can even ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's front-panel LCD will only display hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Pioneer CD receiver; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).
    Disc & USB (Android) Playback

Compatible Discs: The Pioneer FH-X720BT CD receiver supports playback of CD-Audio, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. This unit can play MP3, WMA, and WAV files recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs

Front-Panel USB Input (Android Compliant): The CD receiver's front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) or USB Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) compliant device; such as your Android smartphone or USB thumbdrive. The USB port enables audio playback & control of MP3, WMA, and WAV audio files stored on your portable USB MSC/MTP device through the Pioneer FH-X720BT. Basic playback controls included Play/Pause, FW/RW, Previous/Next Track, and Random/Repeat. Song/artist information such as track, artist, and album name will also be displayed on the head unit. In addition, USB devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the CD receiver's USB port (1A) and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

    • MSC Playback: The Pioneer FH-X720BT's USB port enables playback & control of MP3/WMA/WAV music files stored on your portable USB MSC device, like your older Android smartphone (w/ OS 2.2+ [Froyo/Gingerbread]) or USB thumbdrive device (up to 32GB) through the head unit.
    • MTP Playback: The FH-X720BT's USB port also enables playback & control of stored MP3/WMA music files on your portable USB MTP device, like your newer Android smartphone (w/ OS 4.0+ [Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean/KitKat]) through the Pioneer head unit.
Note: You cannot use your Android smartphone's touchscreen to control music playback and you cannot select music apps from your smartphone for playback. However, you can continue to listen to stored music on your Android smartphone through the head unit while you check your Calendar, Facebook, Texts, etc on your phone.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: The Pioneer FH-X720BT supports the following types of MP3/WMA/WAV files recorded onto CD-R/RW disc or loaded onto a USB MSC/MTP device.

    Media Type CD-R/RW USB (MSC/MTP)
File System ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, Romeo, Long file name FAT 12/16/32
Playable File Types  MP3: bit rate of 8-320 kbps w/ sampling rate of 8-48 kHz
WMA: bit rate of 48-320 kbps w/ sampling rate of 32, 44.1, 48 kHz

Tags ID3 tags (ver.1.0/1.1/2.2/2.3/2.4), WMA tags

File/Track Name List: The Name List feature displays a list of MP3/WMA albums and tracks on a loaded CD or connected USB device, so you can easily access your music. Music files are listed first by Artist name, then by Album name, and finally by Song title.

Song/Artist Information: During MP3/WMA playback, the unit displays any recorded ID3 Tag (ver. 1.x/2.x) and WMA Tag information; including artist, song, and album name.

Playback Controls: The Pioneer CD receiver provides basic operations like Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random for disc and USB device playback. When a compatible Android smartphone is connected, the head unit will control music playback functions; you will not be able to control your music from the smartphone.

Off Insert/Eject + Auto Off Eject: A CD disc can be inserted or ejected with the power off. When a disc is inserted with the power off, the unit will automatically power up and begin playback. When you eject a disc, the unit will automatically power off (unless you switch sources before ejecting the disc).

Installation Angle: Optimum CD playback performance is obtained when the unit is installed at an angle of less than 60-degrees.

    iPhone/Aux Integration

iPod Direct Connection: The Pioneer FH-X720BT's front-panel USB port can be used to connect your Lightning or 30-pin dock connector iPod/iPhone to the head unit. The FH-X720BT supports audio playback, music navigation, information display, and charging of your compatible Apple device.

    • Lightning Connector: If you have a newer iPod/iPhone with the Lightning-connector, you can use Pioneer's Lightning-to-USB cable (130CDIU52, sold separately) or the Lightning-to-USB cable that came with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the FH-X720BT.
    • 30-Pin Dock Connector: If you have an older iPod/iPhone with a 30-pin dock connector, you can use Pioneer's dock connector-to-USB cable (130CDIU51, sold separately) or the dock connector-to-USB cable that comes with your Apple device to connect your iPod/iPhone to the FH-X720BT.
Note: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

iPod Audio Playback w/ DAC Bypass: The USB connection allows your iPod/iPhone's stored music to be loaded instantly to the head unit and sound quality to be maximized through the head unit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to 94dB. The Pioneer head unit supports audio playback of stored music, podcasts, audiobooks, and music apps on your iPod or iPhone. You can choose to operate your iPod/iPhone through the head unit's front-panel controls, from its clickwheel/touchscreen, or via a streamed app from your iPhone.

    • Head Unit Mode: From the head unit, you can browse your iPod/iPhone's music library by Artist, Album, Song, Genre, Playlist, Composer, Podcast, or Audiobook. Once you have selected a category, you can search each category alphabetically. In addition, the head unit offers Link Play, which allows you to play songs related to the currently playing song. Link Play lets the head unit create an album list of the currently playing artist, a song list of the currently playing album, or an album list of the currently playing genre. You can also select Random & Repeat functions for a certain song or specific folder. The head unit will display your iPod/iPhone's stored music file information; including Track number, Elapsed playing time, and Song/Artist/Album name. Apple devices w/ iOS 6.0+ will stay unlocked, so you can access music apps; other iPod/iPhone device's clickwheel or touchscreen will be locked during this mode.
    • iPod Mode: In iPod mode, you can navigate the stored music on your iPod/iPhone from its clickwheel or touchscreen, while still being able to view song/artist information and control basic playback functions from the head unit. You will not be able to browse your iPod/iPhone's music by category from the head unit or use Link Play in this mode.
    • App Mode: App mode lets you listen to your favorite music apps from your iPhone (iOS 5.0+) through the Pioneer head unit and your vehicle's speakers. Once you have selected the music app from your iPhone, you'll be able to listen to music from that app through the Pioneer head unit, view song/artist information on the head unit's LCD, and operate basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track from the head unit's front-panel control. Not all apps will be compatible with App Mode.

Auxiliary Input: The FH-X720BT is equipped with a front-panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player.

    AM/FM + Pandora Radio

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

    • RDS: The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.
    • BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.
    • Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 levels of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

Pandora Internet Radio: The free Pandora App (either from iTunes Apps/Google Play) lets you play music from the Pandora music service through the Pioneer FH-X720BT using your USB-connected Apple iPhone (iOS 5.0+) or Bluetooth paired Android smartphone. Your Apple iPhone must be connected to the FH-X720BT via the CD-IU51/CD-IU52 Pioneer iPod connector cable or the connector-cable that came with your iPhone. Your Android smartphone must support A2DP/AVRCP/SPP Bluetooth profiles and be paired with the Pioneer receiver. Your iPhone or Android smartphone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi. The FH-X720BT provides control over the Pandora music service and displays Artist, Album, and Song information.

    • Station List: You can select Pandora stations from your Station List by date or alphabetically (A-Z).
    • Shuffle Station List: You can listen to songs played randomly from various stations within your Station List.
    • New Stations + Delete: New stations can be created based on the current songs or artists playing. You can also delete a station from your Pandora station list.
    • Skip Songs: You can skip song tracks within a station. You cannot skip back to a previous song. Pandora limits the number of skips allowed.
    • Thumbs Up/Down: You can give songs a thumbs up or thumbs down to help Pandora personalize stations to suit your preferences.
    • Bookmarking: The song/artist currently being played can be bookmarked & stored in your Pandora account.

Note: Access to the Pandora service will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. Pandora is not supported in Canada & only available in the United States.

    Audio Section

24 Bit D/A Converter: The Pioneer in-dash head unit utilizes a 24-bit digital to analog converter for superior sound quality.

MOSFET Amplifier: The FH-X720BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit. The power specifications for the FH-X720BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers.

    • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

4ch/2V Preouts: The Pioneer FH-X720BT features two pair of 2.0-volt preouts. The unit's Rear/SW preouts can be configured as fading rear-channel outputs or a non-fading subwoofer outputs. When the head unit's RW/SW preouts are configured as a subwoofer output, you can select the frequency of the low pass filter (50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 125 Hz), select the filter slope (-6/-12dB), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Equalizer: The Pioneer FH-X720BT features a Preset & Custom EQ. The built-in equalizer offers 7 preset sound modes (Powerful, Dynamic, Vocal, Natural, Custom 1, Custom 2, and Flat) suitable for the music genre of your choice. The two Custom modes allow you to manually adjust the head unit's 5-band EQ (80Hz, 250Hz, 800Hz, 2.5kHz, 8kHz) from +/-6dB. Custom 1 can be set separately for each source (except for USB/iPod/Pandora); while Custom 2 and the other 5 presets are shared settings used for all sources.

High-Pass Crossover: When you don't want low-frequency sound to be heard through your front or rear speakers, you can simply active the head unit's HPF (high pass filter). By activating the HPF, only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output from the front or rear speakers. The high pass filter crossover can be set to 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160hz, 200Hz or Off. The slope level of the HPF can also be adjusted to -6dB or 12dB.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity, the way the artist intended it, from all of your highly compressed MP3 and WMA files stored on your USB thumbdrive, Android smartphone, iPod/iPhone, or Bluetooth device. By restoring data (especially higher frequencies) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process, Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology enhances audio reproduction nearly all the way up to 20 kHz frequencies

Audio Level Settings: The Pioneer FH-X720BT CD receiver offers a variety of audio settings to tailor the bass, treble, and volume level to your preference.

    • Bass Boost The FH-X720BT features a bass boost function which can be used to enhance low-frequency bass sound. The bass boost function can be set between 0-6.
    • Loudness: The Loudness feature compensates for deficiencies in the low and high sound ranges at low volume. You can set the Loudness feature to Low, Mid, High, or Off.
    • Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

MIXTRAX: Drawing from Pioneer's rich DJ heritage and passion for music, MIXTRAX delivers a unique DJ infused listening experience to listeners in the car. MIXTRAX is an innovative Pioneer technology that creates a non-stop mix of your music library complete with a range of DJ-inspired effects. MIXTRAX takes your typical music listening experience and creates a non-stop mix of your music with 9 random DJ effects and transitions, by removing the breaks and pauses normally introduced between tracks and replacing them with various beats. MIXTRAX is compatible with USB-connected iPhone, iPod, USB MSC device, and select Android devices. There is also a Short Playback option which limits the amount of time each track plays; select from 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, or 3 minutes.

Note: The MIXTRAX function does not work in App mode or with the Pandora App for iPod/iPhone, and is not supported by USB MTP devices. The Advanced Sound Retriever function is disabled when MIXTRAX is activated.
    Display Features

Color Customization: Color Customization lets the user match their receiver illumination to their vehicle's interior lighting. Over 210,000 colors are available to match the illumination of almost any car. The button illumination and display illumination colors can be customized separately for an endless number of color combinations. You can select from 5 preset colors (White/Red/Amber/Green/Blue), customize an illumination color (by adjusting Red/Blue/Green brightness levels), or scan through a variety of colors.

Brightness Control: You can manually adjust the brightness (1-10) of the head unit's display to suit your viewing needs. You can also sync the receiver's illumination to the head units' clock or your vehicle's headlights. To dim the receiver's display automatically when the vehicle's headlights are turned on, you'll need to hardwire the orange/white wire of the head unit's harness to your vehicle's parking light circuit.

MIXTRAX Illumination: MIXTRAX features a club-style illumination that enhances the mood with a dynamic dance club-like lighting effect. As MIXTRAX begins, lights start pulsing to the beat of the music, adding an extra level of entertainment. You can choose different patterns of lighting variations from sound pressure level or low-pass synchronization modes. The lighting effects work like a spectrum analyzer, reaching peak colors based on the intensity of the music.

Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns off audio output, but the clock display and button illumination remains on (you can press the "DISP" button to turn off). When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the "SRC" button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display by pressing the "DISP" button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On, you can choose to have the clock display during playback of each source.

Demo Mode: This unit features a Demo mode which can be turned On/Off within the menu.

2-DIN Chassis: The Pioneer FH-X720BThas a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double -DIN"), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using factory brackets. There is also an optional double-DIN sleeve (130ADTV133, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to Euro-mount or custom mount the Pioneer head unit in your vehicle. As always, please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to verify fit with your vehicle.

    Remote Control

Wireless Remote Control: The FH-X720BT comes with an IR wireless remote control. The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause playback, skip music tracks, change display info, and answer/end Bluetooth phone call. You can also mute the volume (function that cannot be performed from the front panel).

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an OEM steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately). Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

I just bought a car with this stereo already installed in it, but I want to remove it and upgrade to a touchscreen Pioneer, but I can't figure out how to get it out of the dash. Does it require some sort of removal key?

I Have this stereo in my 2010 Tacoma. Nothing special required in my truck.
    william  Aug 11, 2016

Nothing unique about removing the radio. Look up the OEM (original equipment manufacture) radio install manual for your vehicle. Normally you will have to remove portions of your dash to remove the radio. It installs the same way the original radio for your vehicle did. so do some searching on the internet for the install/removal of the oem radio.
    robert  Aug 07, 2016
    A
The answer to this question would be for your vehicle specifically. If you can get to the screws holding the radio in (you'll probably have to remove part of the dash), all you'll have to do is unplug the wires in the back.
    martin  Aug 06, 2016

No it shouldn't... Maybe you are missing a piece you have to remove before getting to the head unit?
    james  Aug 06, 2016

There shouldn't be any removal key. Only 4 screws. There should be a surrounding edge piece that needs to be popped off first. It will disconnect like any other radio wiuld

    A
Yes, when using Blue Tooth Audio. I will basically play anything that is playing on the phone. I currently use it for Google Play Music and it works great, I have used it with Milk Music and Amazon Music as well. It doesn't have all the functionality like pandora but you can still skip songs. Works with google maps as well very handy. I have an older phone Galaxy S4 and tried using Google Now but it didn't work very well for that. Hope this helps.

I have seen in the videos of this unit that the lights of the deck flicker when the music is playing, like you are at a hockey game and someone just scored a goal. It is bright and looks a little spastic. does the receiver's lights calm down a little bit or does it always look like a rave in your car?
    don  Jun 22, 2016

This is a feature called "Mixtrax". You can play audio without the colors flashing or changing.
    andrew  Jun 22, 2016
    A
It's pretty consistent with the "rave pattern" if you're set to that setting. But you can adjust the brightness which may help, or once you're off mixtrack you can set the lighting to be one color. It's really not that annoying.

Does this come with a dash kit? Or something to make it look flush with your car. I'm installing in a Mitsubishi Outlander 2004, replacing the single din stock.
    cameryn  Feb 19, 2016

Thanks for your question. For the Double Din unit like this you won't need an installation kit to install the new receiver. According to the research, when you install a new car stereo in this vehicle, you may notice a slight gap around the face. This is normal. If you have additional questions about fit I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.

Does the display seem bright enough during the daytime ?
    silver buzz  Aug 08, 2015
    14 answers
    A
Yes very bright. You can also tone down the brightness if to bright
    ryan  Aug 14, 2015
    A
Yes, the display is plenty bright for daytime use and it automatically dims when the lights are turned on so its not to bright for night use as well.
    adam  Aug 10, 2015
    A
I find the display to be quite legible. It dims noticeably for night driving, and I can see it well during the day. My two caveats... (1) if you wear dark or strongly polarized sunglasses, you will have a bit more difficulty reading the display. (2) sunlight directly hitting the display will create some glare on the glossy display surface. I don't find these situations to be any worse with this radio than any other, including most OEM radios.
    chris  Aug 09, 2015
    A
IT has been fine in my Tundra with the lights on orange to match my dash lights. There are 4 brightness settings.
    daniel  Aug 09, 2015
    A
think it will depend on the vehicle and if you're wearing sunglasses. I have an 06 Tacoma and the dash kind of bends back so that the unit is at an angle. When I wear my polarized sunglasses, it can be difficult to see. Otherwise, I can see the display pretty well. Make sure to turn the brightness all the way up!
    adam  Aug 09, 2015
    A
No. It's practically invisible during the day.
    andrew  Aug 09, 2015

The display is brighter with different colors. For example, the red is not very bright but white is. And orange is. What is nice is you can make the key colors different from the main color. I hope this helps.
    william  Aug 09, 2015
    A
It does, but it all depends on what color you choose. I'm farsighted and red seems to work best for me. It is a great radio/cd player. The sound is much crisper and a little louder than the OEM unit it replaced.
    robert  Aug 08, 2015

    jared  Aug 08, 2015

I have it in my 2004 F-150 and it seems fine even on sunny days. Never had issues reading the display. It does dim down at night so it's not blinding. Which is what I was more concerned about after reviews from the previous model.
    adam  Aug 08, 2015

    Q
I currently have a Pioneer single din unit with a Pioneer 600 watt amp and Infinity powered subwoofer hooked into my unit. Will I still be able to connect both devices to this unit? I'm just looking to get a unit with bluetooth but it won't do me any good if I can't connect my amp and sub to it.
    glenn  Jul 18, 2015
    1 answer
    A
There is no Sub output but it has a 4 channel output. I think if you have an infinity bass link it has a left and right stereo rca input and the crossover is built into the sub. So if this is the case you should be just fine. The radio is very nice and the bluetooth works well. I have no complaints about my radio and you can't beat the price.

Yes it does. Once you pair with the head unit via Bluetooth, you can play all audio to the unit. I have used the default music player, iHeart radio, Google Music, DI.FM, YouTube, Netflix, and many other apps. You can also use the USB for the music on your phone as well, but a lot of apps are buggy using this method. Best to use Bluetooth. Hope that helps :)

You can play whatever music you have on the phone or through the Internet such as spotify either through Bluetooth or with your phones usb cable. The pandora app is just programmed into the receiver, really doesn't make a difference. unless you're trying to choose playlists or thumbs up or down music (which is what the pandora app lets you do) then your skip forward and backward arrows work the same. You can also control them from the phone itself. I have an iPhone and it has worked great.

Thinking about this unit but worried about bt music not starting back when using google maps. Anyone have experience with this?
    thomas  May 04, 2015

    A
Here's the deal. If you're playing BT music and have google maps on with voice turned on. When the voice for maps occurs, the music is softened but not silenced, the directions are spoken, and the music is returned to full volume. There are two issues I have experienced (VERY RARELY) 1. Sometimes when the music softens for the directions, it stays quiet. To fix this you just have to disconnect your phone and reconnect (Turn off bluetooth on your phone or switch to a different input mode on the head unit) 2. If someone else is playing music vis AUX and you have blue tooth and directions on your phone (Not playing music), it will switch the head unit to BT and play the google maps directions through the speaker system. Overall though I love this head unit. Those issues have only happened once or twice in 6 months. They're just minor bugs and it could easily be my phone not the head unit.

I I don't have experience with this, specifically, but it seems this would be more a function of your android device than of the stereo/head unit.

Yes, you go to settings where you can choose between "Spena", "Level Meter", and "Clock". The product pictures on this site show you what the clock setting looks like, the "BT/USB/iPod" section is where the song info scrolls.

Thanks to all for the help. For anyone who may not know, this clock has a 2 line display. You can have the clock show on the second line while having song info scroll on first line. In order to have the clock show, I had to go into the system settings and select clock. Press m.c. dial (big round knob), turn it to info display and select and turn knob until you see clock and select that.

There is a spot on the radio that you can customize to your own liking. You can choose between clock, source, and sound bars. Personally, I have it at source because there is a built in clock in my car. If you do not have a clock in your car, then yes, you can have a clock on the screen at all times along with track information.

Last Question, On my old Pioneer DEH 6300 I was able to choose any of the 5 EQ settings, super bass, natural, flat, vocal and I forgot the other one and manage to customize it. Is there a way I can choose for instant Vocal and play with that EQ just like my last headset? I really loved how it sounded on vocal with my small adjustments. It sounds perfect to what I listen to. Right now I have it flat because I dont know how to adjust it to resemble it the vocal EQ.

I've tried that as well, but I don't think the receiver allows you to. You'll have to mess around with the custom 1or2 setting and adjust the sound from that to your liking. A little frustrating but hopefully you'll find something that you like that way.
    mark  Mar 18, 2015
    A
the one you forgot was probably "Powerful" which is what I have mine on and yes you can change the eq a little bit on each preset, with the exception being if you're in mixtrax (which doesn't make any sense but I guess it's whatever because I don't use that anyways lol)
    john  Mar 16, 2015

Also, if you're making your preset, remember that from left-right, is bass-trebel. Keep that in mind while tweaking.

Bass Boost doesnt seem to work. Theres no boost at all? Does that work only when a CD is playing or what? My old Pioneer 6300ub whenever I would change the bass boost you can tell. with this, it doesnt.

It will change the tone no matter what format is being played. I tried it on mine just to double check. There isn't a significant bass "boom" but there is a change in the tone. I do not have a sub, so changing the "Sub on or off" under the menu doesn't change the sound at all.
    rolland  Feb 07, 2015
    A
What equalizer setting do you have for the audio? If it's something that inherently has not bass or even -bass, the bass boost is effectively null. I leave mine on "Super Bass" all the time. If you have no subwoofer, you'll want the subwoofer settings on "off" or it'll try to pass all bass to those outputs which are null. Maybe the CD doesn't have a lot of bass, but you're asking this specific question so I'm assuming you expect it does. Does this help?

I have this same unit and I have no problems with the bluetooth connection. I use a Samsung Galaxy S4 and my main source of music is Pandora. There are two options on this unit that you could choose from when listening to music Pandora. If you choose the "Pandora" app, then you can SEE AND CONTROL all your Pandora stations on the unit. If you choose "BT Audio" then you can see title of song and control it but no access to your stations unless you look at them on your phone. As far as the USB goes, it seems to only work with iPods, iPhones, apple products. I always get an error when I plug my Android in. However, that is not a big deal for me since the Bluetooth works fantastic! I am always taking road trips in my 4runner and this unit has made my music experience easy and lazy in that I do not have to think about "how" to use it or fiddle around just to get things going. You should at first spend some time(took me about 45 minutes total) to get all your settings and EQ dialed in and just sit back and enjooooy the ride!!!

The microphone is not on the face of the unit. It's like one of the little lapel microphones interviewees wear. Mine is set up near my sun visor with the wire to the unit tucked under the car's trim..

Hi Robert, The mike comes with the unit and plugs into a socket on the rear. I didn't install the mike that came with mine, but the Tech suggested that the mike wiring be routed behind the dash and the mike mounted on the top of the steering column between the steering wheel and the dash. Hope this helps.

The microphone is attached to a long cord...very similar to earbuds. It plugs into the back of the unit, and you have to route the wire through your dashboard to wherever you want to mount it.

It is separate from the unit. It is on a clip with a fairly long cable that is plugged into the back of the unit. Double sided tape is provided if you don't have a place to use the clip. It can be positioned almost anywhere. I put mine in the driver's side pillar, tucking the wire under the plastic pillar cover. I could have placed it on the steering wheel column as there is a place to clip it there as well. The cable is long enough to where you could mount to your rear view mirror. I have been told that people can hear me clearly with little to no road noise in the background. The volume of the speakers can be adjusted separately from the volume of the stereo when the phone is activated as road noise can make it difficult to hear the other party.

Basically there's a long wire with a microphone at the end that plugs into the back of the unit. It is up to you to wire it to the location you want it at. The wire is plenty long enough to put it almost anywhere on the dash or headliner.

Microphone needs to be installed in another location. The mic comes with a clip, so mine is just above the steering column in front of the gauges. The wire is hidden behind the panels which plugs into the back of the receiver. Have had no issues with people hearing me or ambient noise.

The microphone is separate from the unit and connects to the back of the unit with a thin wire. I placed mine on top of the steering column and ran the wire down beside the column and fed it into the space between the steering column and dashboard then to the back of the unit. The wire is completely hidden from view. The microphone is small and is not noticeable on the steering column.

I've noticed that only SOMETIMES my Bluetooth connection will send my phone misc. audio to my speakers while I'm in a different source setting(other than Bluetooth, obviously). Misc. being your Google nav. voice, keyboard sounds, notification tones, etc. Its not a constant thing, which I'm inclined to believe is a flaw, but who knows. I'm usually in the USB/iPod setting, and here and again, I'll here my keyboard feedback through my speakers, or the lock sound of my phone, but that's really it. So, I'm gonna go with no, it won't. Just to be safe.

I know this comes with a mic, but I already have BT in my car from the factory... is there a way to use what is already there as it is hidden and not use the included mic with this product?

As others have mentioned, it is highly unlikely that the plug for the microphone in your car is compatible with the plug on the receiver. However, inside the wire is just 2 smaller wires. If you aren't afraid of some experimentation (and are comfortable splicing or soldering), you can cut the mic wire that comes with the receiver and splice the connector onto the mic wire in your car (if you know where to find it).
    joshua  Nov 26, 2014

Not easily. It may be possible with splicing wires from the microphone cable with the head unit into your factory mike, but it was more than I wanted to tackle.

Hi Bryan. I believe you have to used the One comes with the unit. Because that's why you upgrade your unit. . Or find out if you can unplug you BT. From you car and attached to the new unit.

Bryan, it all depends on how it is connected to the head unit. The Bluetooth that comes with this system has a long cord and microphone, which I was able to hide under the dash, with the mic somewhat hidden in the console. My car didn't have Bluetooth to start.

It doesn't, from what I've seen. Don't quote me on that, but I have yet to see one. Regardless, the functions through your device still work. Such as, mute, hold, volumes, end/receive, dial pad, etc. So, whatever you need to do, would just have to be done through the device.

Does this unit support iPhone 6+ Bluetooth?
    pedro  Oct 25, 2014

The iPhone 6 works well with this unit. It works with both Bluetooth and USB. Because of the bugs Apple is having with Bluetooth right now, it does work better via USB. The Bluetooth drops now and then. You also get this weird glitch sound now and then as well. I have tested with Pandora, Spotify, Digitally Imported, iHeart Radio, and the standard music player. I would recommend the USB for best sound quality till Apple puts out a update to fix Bluetooth issues.

It does stick out a bit, but not too much. It's more prominent across the center of it, because its makes a v shape (>) At the center it only sticks out about 4mm. I've installed mine on a '05 4Runner, and the area where the stereo seats is deep. So even with that "sticking out" issue, the stereo does not "come ou"t farther out than the rest of the dashboard. Even considering the big knob in the center.

I have paired two phones with Bluetooth. When you are playing via bluetooth of device A, how to switch to the music playing in device B? The only way I found so far requires turn off the bluetooth of device A. Is there a better way? Thank you guys.

Ok the way this works is, once you pair both phone to the unit, they will both have the ability to take calls, but only one can play audio/music. If you want to switch audio/music sources you press the Volume/Menu knob. When the Menu comes up you choose "FUNCTION" then "SEL DEVICE". Then choose the device you want to used for audio/music. Once you do that, you will be able to play music from that device (there is a few second pause while switching depending on device). Now the previous device will only be used for phone calls, till you switch back to it using the same steps. This was tested with a Samsung Note 3 and a iPhone 6.

Yes it will! But if you got a few more dollars to spend, I ended up buying BOSS BV9386NV. This double din HEAD unit is worth the investment! It does everything what the Pionner has to offer PLUS you can hook up a backup camera from eBay for $12.00 and hook it up yourself! Another is the navigation... That pretty much tells everything of tou wanting to get BV9386NV

    Q
While you are in "FM" source, are you able to use the voice calling feature with iPhone? With the previous model (FH-X700BT), paint the MC button for free seconds would activate iPhone voice calling only when Src was bluetooth. So you cannot make a hands free call while listening to FM radio. Does this written in 720BT?

Yes. As long as the phone is connected through the usb cable or through Bluetooth. You do not need to be on Bluetooth source. Just push and hold the MC button for a few seconds regardless of what source you're on the radio. Voice calling should come on. Hope this helps you!

Is it bluetooth compatible with the iPod 4th generation for audio streaming?

If you refer to an iPod Touch 4th Generation, you can plug it to the radio with the iPod's cable via the USB port. I know it is compatible with the iPhone 4 and up, plus the iPod Classic via the USB port. Have not tried using the BT for Apple products. I have use the BT Audio function for Android devices and it works flawlessly.

I haven't tested it with an iPod 4th gen, but I'm using it successfully with an iPhone 5, which is pretty similar internally. I get good quality streaming, there's track information on the display via BT, and I can access Siri by holding the center dial on the head unit.
