If you don't have a subwoofer, but have large rear speakers, you'll appreciate the "rear speaker subwoofer" setting on the Panasonic MXE CQ-C5210U CD receiver. It uses a low-pass crossover to block the mids and highs from your rear speakers, so that they can focus on the bass.

And if you do have external amplifiers, the CQ-C5210U sends your amps a strong, clean, 5-volt signal from three sets of preamp outputs. High-pass and low-pass crossovers let you route the sound frequencies to the proper speakers.

Panasonic's Day and Night faceplate design looks great in the daylight, but in the dark, it's even better — glowing with soft blue accents that are perfect for night-time driving. Plus, the face is motorized for easy operation and detachable for security.

The SQ7 sound control has six preset tone curves for quick music-mastery, and a 7-band equalizer so you can tweak the details. The wireless remote gives you back seat audio control. And Panasonic backs up this MXE receiver with a 2-year warranty!

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Looks good, but not worth the money

Written By Maziar, Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday, April 26, 2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This Panasonic receiver has a lot of features and looks very good (don't be fooled by the picture on Crutchfield.com, its actually chrome looking). It's sound quality is also OK, although you need to have good speakers to enjoy the sound. What I didn't like about it was its extremely poor FM reception. Even my old orginal factory receiver had better FM sensitivity. Also, sometimes it gets confused, like MS Windows, and you need to restart it. For example, a couple of times when I was trying to put a CD in, it powered off instead. Another time I tried to change the Bass and Treble levels, and they were frozen. Once I restarted it, it started working OK.

Overall, I think it looks cool and has nice features. But its not even worth $150. Thanks to Crutchfield's exceptional service, I was able to return it.

great great deal

best buy for the dollar. More gadgets that I may actually need, but I figure I'll start with this radio and build up from there. Even with stock speakers it still sounds great. It took only 2 hours to install, including one trip to the hardware store for the correct size wire nuts(didn't get crimped connectors beacuse these are not permanant and I plan to keep this radio with me for a long time). Only complaint: volume knob a little small and slippery. A truely great buy.

Go ahead & install it yourself.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Customer Service mentioned on average it takes about 2 hours to install. It took me about twice that but I still think it was worth it. (Installing the speakers & running to the store added to my time). I should have bought the crimping tool & caps because I had to buy them anyway along w/ some electrical tape. I give the unit an all around 5 out of 5 (sounds, looks, performs & priced great). I wish Crutchfield would have been able to sell me a nicer mounting kit. On my particular vehicle it had a pocket underneath the receiver & the provided mounting kit just covered that space w/ a clip in plastic face plate which I thought was a waste of space & looked kind of cheap. I was able to go to a local place & get a nicer mounting kit. I bought the speakers w/ the amount I saved by doing it myself. I bought the top selling receiver & speakers. I researched other places for prices but the catalog & web page gave the most insite to compare products & get reviews. This was my first experience w/ Crutchfield but I am sure I will use them again in the future.

Good Product, Great Price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this item for 169.99 and got a $20 mail in rebate so couldnt really beat the price. I have recieved a lot of comments on how good it looks. It sounds great with my system which included 4 62.5i infinity kappa speakers along with a infinity7540 power amp and also a 8000t audiobahn amp with two 10'' kappa perfect subs (really pound!). I only complaint i had which made this review a 4 is that the face plate is slightly loose. It seems it didnt always get a great connection. But this is only minor and has only happened a few times, otherwise a great product for the money.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

What a steal!!! I usually stick to Alpine headunits but by chance I stumbled on this unit. My wife and I discussed the affordablity of it and took a chance. We could not have been more pleased with the outcome. I installed it in our Hyundai Accent along with my subs and WOW. Now we are getting a second one for our Suburban.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was a steal, especially considering it was over $200 when it first came out. It's packed with features, performs well, and looks good doing it. Since I don't have an amp, I really appreciate the way it allows you to use your rear speakers as subs; very cool.

Nice deck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had to buy a second one with-in 2 days of the first arrival as someone else liked it so much they stole it out of my truck . On my second install I am adding 6 1/2 Infinity Kappi in front and 6x9 Infinity Kappi in rear , with a 4 x 100 amp to pump those babies up . I already know I will benefit from the 5 volt pre outs .
Crutchfield thanks for a great deal :)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It is a fantastic headunit for the price. I recently put it in my 01 hyundai aceent and hooked it up to four 12-inch subs, and it preforms beautifully. The way you could customize the way your music sounds is awsome.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this unit yesterday on my sierra truck with an amp, replacement door speakers and a sub. I spent at least a couple hours messing with all of the cool features on this thing. I love the 7 band EQ on this thing. I can't believe the control this unit gives as far as bieng able to manipulate the way my music sounds and also has an impressive rear bass function. The folding face plate is more than I expected in the attention to detail. Best of all was the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit is by far the deal of the year. It fills my 250 Super Duty from wall to wall with superb sound and does not bottom out when asked to deliver a little extra "boom". The only complaint is the volume knob is small and slippery but the handy little remote makes this adjustment easy.

What a Display!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had this unit installed into my 2000 Silverado Extd. cab yesterday. Along with new Polk 4x6's and 6 and a halves installed into the doors and a Bazooka, self-powered tube. Wow, what a difference. Night and Day, just like the receiver face!
The display on this thing is really nice looking. Its VERY BLUE but it does have 3 dimmer settings. I love that it has an actual 7 band EQ built-in, as well it has 6 preset levels which you vary off of. I've never owned one with a motorized faceplate but it sure looks cool. Neat little remote control but I can't really see using too much considering my arm reaches the stereo just fine, but its still cool.
Overall I am THRILLED with the performance and the price of this receiver. I Highly recommend buying it and if you were at all sceptical of the price(cheap).....DON'T BE, this thing is Solid!!!

CD Changer Controls

Motorized Tilting Face: The CQ-C5210U features a motorized slide-down faceplate. The face automatically tilts to allow you to insert or eject a CD. The face angle can be adjusted to one of three settings (15°, 25° or 35°), or remain upright, whichever angle gives you the best visibility. When the face is removed, a red LED blinks on the front panel of the radio. The security indicator can be deactivated. Note: The bottom of the faceplate protrudes approximately 1-1/2" when a CD is being loaded or ejected.

Display Patterns: The source information is displayed as white alphanumeric characters along the top half of the display window. You can select one of 6 spectrum analyzer patterns for the bottom portion of the display or no pattern. The display has a blue LED backlight with 3 brightness settings. If desired, you can turn off the display and all button illumination, leaving only the source button illuminated.

Day and Night Faceplate: This unit also features the Day and Night faceplate. During the day, the face is dark gray with a silvery mirror-like finish on the ends. At night, or whenever it's dark in the vehicle, the outside edges of the faceplate and a "halo" around the volume knob illuminate in blue.

SQ7: The CQ-C5210U features a SQ7 "Sound Quality" 7-band equalizer with 6 EQ presets. The presets include Rock, Pop, Vocal, Jazz, Club and Flat. You can further adjust any of the 7 EQ bands from -12dB to +12dB: 60Hz, 160Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 3kHz, 6kHz and 16kHz.

Subwoofer Output: In addition to front and rear preamp outputs, the CQ-C5210U has a non-fading, two-channel subwoofer output. You can adjust the volume of the subwoofer output from -6dB to +6dB in 2dB increments plus "subwoofer mute". The subwoofer output has a low-pass filter with a selectable 80Hz, 120Hz or 160Hz cutoff frequency.

Super Bass Control Subwoofer (SBC-SW): You can drive small subwoofers with the rear speaker outputs with the SBC-SW. When the SBC-SW is activated, the subwoofer level and low pass filter settings are applied to the rear speaker outputs.

High Pass Filter: This unit has a built-in high pass filter for the front and rear speaker and preamp outputs with a selectable crossover frequency (90Hz, 135Hz, 180Hz, 225Hz or Off).

Mute/Attenuate: This unit allows you to choose between mute (volume at 0) or attenuate (volume decreased by 10 steps) when you want to decrease the volume instantly.

Alphatuner V: The CQ-C5210U's Alphatuner V tuner is designed to help suppress multi-path distortion and reduce the problem of radio signal reflections in metropolitan areas. It also features increased sensitivity for weak signal areas.

Direct Memory: One favorite radio station can be stored in Direct Memory and recalled at any time (even with the power off) with the push of the D-M button. In addition, you can store up to 18 FM and 6 AM stations in preset memory.

Remote Control: The CQ-C5210U is equipped with a wireless remote control (YEFX9992663). In addition to normal disc/tuner/audio controls, some functions are available exclusively by remote control only. The dimensions of the remote are: W=1.583", H=0.268", L=3.412".

CD Changer Controls

CD Changer Compatibility: The CQ-C5210U can control compatible 6-disc and 8-disc Panasonic CD Changers including CX-DP880, CX-DP88, CX-DP801, CX-DP610, CX-DP601, and CX-DP600.

Dual CD Changer Control: Using the optional CA-CD55 (item # 133CACD55) Dual CD changer adapter, you can control two compatible CD changers with this unit.

Changer Controls:

  • Disc Up/Down
  • Direct Disc Selection (remote only)
  • Track Up/Down
  • Fast Forward/Fast Reverse
  • Random (all available tracks)
  • Disc Random (current disc)
  • Scan Play (all available tracks)
  • Disc Scan Play (1st track of all discs)
  • Repeat Play (current track)
  • Disc Repeat Play (current disc)
  • CD Changer Selection (1 or 2)

Clock/Illumination Displays: Pressing and holding the Source button turns the unit off completely. After the unit has been turned off, you can use the DISP (display) button to switch the clock display and face/button illumination on and off. If you leave the clock display and face/button illumination on, they are "keyed". If you turn the clock display and face/button illumination off, they only turn on when the unit is turned on ("unit on" operation).
