Panasonic's CQ-C7203U combines the best of both worlds — a powerful high-end CD/MP3 player and a 3D dot matrix display. Your digital music files will sound great, and you'll be able to read artist and song info at a glance on the bright, high-definition display.

It all starts with the press of a button — the motorized, detachable faceplate slides down, giving you access to the CD slot. From there, just pop in a disc loaded with MP3 or WMA files, and let the display show off two lines of track and artist information in style.

The CQ-C7203U's powerful on-board amplifier ensures great sound from all your recordings, and the Alphatuner V tuner offers exceptional AM/FM reception. Panasonic's SQ3 sound shaping gives you bass, midrange, and treble controls plus six preset tone curves for tweaking the sound to your liking.

Have a larger system in mind? The stereo's three sets of preamp outputs will send a massive 5-volt signal to your external amps for seriously clean sound at all volume levels. Add Panasonic's optional iPod interface for complete playback and control of your iPod while you're on the road. Instead of an iPod, other options include a Panasonic CD/DVD changer or XM or SIRIUS satellite radio. If you can't decide on just one, get Panasonic's CY-EM100U Expansion Box and you'll be able to add up to four pieces of Panasonic gear.

Product Highlights:

  • CD player with built-in MOSFET amplifier (18 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels)
  • plays CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RW discs (including MP3 and WMA files on disc)
  • SQ3 sound shaping (3-band equalizer and six preset sound curves — "Rock," "Vocal," "Pop," "Jazz," "Club," and "Flat")
  • motorized, detachable faceplate with 3D display and multiple viewing angles
  • Day and Night faceplate design glows blue at night
  • 5-volt front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs
  • CEA-2006 compliant
  • wireless remote
  • seek tuning
  • Alphatuner V AM/FM tuner
  • 18 FM/6 AM presets
  • rotary control knob
  • clock
  • rear auxiliary input
  • compatible with Panasonic CD/DVD changer
  • satellite radio-ready
  • compatible with an optional Panasonic iPod adapter
  • CD frequency response: 20-20,000 Hz
  • CD signal-to-noise ratio: 96 dB
  • FM sensitivity: 10.2 dBf
  • warranty: 2 years
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed the deck with the provided wire harness and mounting kit, provided for free by Crutfield. Was very simple to do, (i.e simple provided you can wire a few wires together, of course) great documentation and free Ipod connector made this a bargin. The unit looks great in my 2006 Mustang Convertable, and preform wells.... Since this was such a great buy and working with Crutchfield so easy, I plan to purchase the rest of my audio equip here to.....from the 6th channel amp to all of the install equipment....A+++++++

2001 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this unit 6 Months ago and put it in my 2001 VW Jetta, this is a great unit for the price. First of all, ordering and gettin all the parts was effortless, crutchfield is on the ball with delivery and getting all the wiring kits and instructions at no extra charge. Installation was a snap. Only problem was shoving all the cable so the unit clicked into place. Once installed it made my factory speakers feel new again, it was like I had a whole new system. I fed the ipod cable under my center console, with instructions from a VW message board, my ipod sits comfortably out of sight in my armrest compartment.
The only two issues I have with the unit, and they are minor, for me, is the scrolling part. Takes for ever if you have alot of music. So I just made a bunch of playlists. Second is on preset radio buttons, scrolling is not bad but wish the had at least 6 preset buttons. Other than that this thing is a great Ipod solution for those not wanting to spend a lot of $$$$. I looked into a ipod cable to fit my factory stereo with Ipod controls and it was like ~$140 or so. I figured I spend an extra $50 and get a whole new head unit and the cable. Much more control from this cable too.

I love this deck in my 98 ranger, the dash install I got from Crutchfield fit like a dream and adds a very professional look to the dash.
Controls are very easy to use and the iPod hookup works great. That however is my only complaint as the motorized face froze and went black when a friends iPod was hooked up. I called Crutchfields awesome tech line and found out it was a iPod problem and not the deck it self, they even told me how to restart the deck and it hasnt done it since.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Fantastic product. Couldn't be happier. Installation was a breeze. Crutchfield had this on my doorstep less than 48 hours after I placed my order. Having never installed a car stereo before, I thought I might have some trouble. But install directions were simple and clear and I had everything done in a little over an hour. Fit was great and it looks awesome.
As for the stereo itself...everything I had hoped for. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to upgrade their car audio. Sound from radio, cd's and Ipod are all top notch.

2005 Jeep Liberty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Most of the folks who have reviewed here have covered the functions pretty well. I'll keep my review short...

iPod control = GREAT! best in price range.
Display = GREAT! All titling info displayed even from iPod
Sound = Great! Even with factory speakers still installed, a huge improvement. Can't wait until I replace those, too!

Installation in my Jeep Liberty was a snap and Crutchfield, as always, included all the necessary instructions, harnesses, and dash kit.The sound is what surprised me most! For the price, I was expecting mediocrity and got excellence. This a great buy and, IMO, a great unit.Plenty of I/O for future upgrades on this unit.A quick read through the manual helps a lot in figuring things out.Crutchfield is tops in the business if you need help.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Done lots of research on a unit for the truck. Was reluctant at first, but all the features I was looking for, this unit had. After I installed the unit, I was surprised at the sound the radio put out and the sound of the ipod, even on stock speakers. For now, I give it a 5, sounds better than what I expected and super easy to install. I am thinking about expanding the cell phone capabilities, but keep hearing both sides about this, guess i'll find out.
Ordering through Crutchfields was simple and very positive. Ordered the unit on a Tuesday afternoon, it arrived at my door by Thursday evening. Everything I needed was packaged with the unit, detailed directions specific to my truck, ipod adapter, antenna and dash adapter as well. As everbody else is saying, well worth the price.
Thanks Crutchfields!!!

I love this HU. It has to be the best one for under $200. I is waaay better than my stock head unit. My only complaint is the ipod control. I don't mind pushing the button, but i wish it had a feature to hold the button down and it scroll automatically. Other than that it is a great HU.

I bought this head unit about 6 months ago for my 2001 Toyota Celica GT. I really like the available choices for your display. The only negative things I have to say about the CQ-7203U are that it takes a while to scroll through your iPod due to the controls incorporated into this head unit, and the installation hardware sent to my by Crutchfield left a small gap between the unit and my dash. Other than that..great buy..I'm planning on buying another one for my 1996 Honda Accord.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After lots of research I decided to purchase this unit for my truck. I was looking for a good car stereo with iPod connectivity. For the price you really can't beat this deal. Got the iPod connector ($50 value) at no extra cost plus a rebate for $25 iTunes card. Love the stereo and the sound, it is fantastic. Installed it without a hitch and was actually up and running in little over an hour!

Only drawback was the iPod intergration. It does not give you full control or let you view all that is on your iPod. For example I can't call up my podcasts thru the stereo, I either have to have the podcast playing when I connect my iPod, or use a playlist that has the podcasts in it. One thing I really love is when I turn off my truck it shuts down, then when I get back in and start up my vehicle it picks up right from where it left off. No more restarting my iPod to continue listening to a podcast. Love this feature. Aside from the minor iPod issue (not seeing all info) I give this unit 4 out of 5 stars (would be 5 if it had better iPod control).

If youre looking for AUX inputs, sub control, great sound, and a low price, look no further. i had purchased an older sony unit with the active black panel and all the bells and whistles for around $300, but was looking for something with an aux input so i could connect my mp3 player. I was also looking to not spend an arm and a leg. This Panasonic unit has far more features than my sony, and at about half the price. Well worth every penny. Installation was a breeze, and its been running smooth for over 6 months now. Provides plenty of muscle in the high-end to keep up with the subs takin care of the low end. I am in love with this reciever, and would recommend it to anyone.

What a killer deal. I bought scratch and dent, got stereo, install equp, adapters and ipod cable.
5v preouts are great, display, both ipod and aux rca in, remote Ipod interface is quick enoug

controls are not intuitive and not super easy, no radio preset buttons on unit. ipod controls a bit limited and not as easy to navigate

definitely recommend for the money.

1996 Acura Integra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this head unit to replace the stock unit in my '96 Acura Integra. The factory system is considered "premium" but I was looking for something with a little bit more oomph.

I selected this model primarily for the iPod compatibility. I was previously using a FM transmitter and the sound quality is 100x better with the direct connection.

Installation was quick and painless thanks to the mastersheet and harnesses provided. I got everything done in a little over an hour which I considered pretty good since this is the first time I'd done a car audio install on my own. I ran the iPod cable into my glove box so that it's out of the way yet easily accessible (plus I can lock it if necessary.)

The unit looks and sounds great and meets all of my needs. My only complaint is the same as many others have mentioned.... the tediousness of scrolling through every single artist one at a time. I'm a music junkie and have well over 1,000 artists on my iPod. I've remedied this by creating more playlists or worst case scenario.. pulling my iPod out of the glove compartment and using the click wheel to find what I want and then reconnecting.

All in all, a great unit for the price. Now that I've got my feet wet, I'm looking to upgrade my stock speakers and add a sub/amp combo.

1993 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just replaced the stock head unit in my '93 4Runner with this and it is a great unit. The features that the unit packs are awesome for the money. Here are a couple things I don't like, however....

Since it doesn't have any way to access each input directly, having to cycle through all of them can be a pain. For instance, to go from the radio to the iPod you have to press the source button several times going through the CD and Aux input. I wish I was able to disable the Aux input to make this a quicker change.

The iPod integration is very good but if you have selected an artist from the menu, and you then want to change artists, you have to start from the "A's" and press the down button until you get to the selected one. It would be nice if you are playing an artist that begins with an "R" if it would take you right to the "R's" in the list. Also, it would be nice if the unit scrolled down through the list by holding down the button but this isn't the case; you have to press and release the button to move up or down the list.

Other than these quibbles, I am very happy with the unit and with the Crutchfield documentation on how to install the unit. Thanks!

1996 Honda Accord EX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This deck came w/ everything I needed for starters. It came with a wiring harness (free of charge), receiver kit (free of charge), ipod cable (free) and instructions. Putting this together was a breeze. The deck itself is a solid deck with pretty good visuals. The EQ settings are pretty good without being too complicated so if you want to sacrifice options for ease then you will be satisfied like I was. The deck altogether had just enough options to keep me happy without all the extra settings I didn't need. It has CD text w/album - artist info and song titles. They display very nicely. The deck plays cds pretty good, so far I've had no problems in 2 weeks. You can use an ipod via the ipod cable with this deck and it displays all the ipod info on the deck which is pretty cool. And it's pretty easy to navigate, if you have a lot of files it may be tedious because it scrolls through artists at only 3 artists a time. For the money and the extras you get, you can't go wrong with this deck. Just be sure to research the kind of features you want. If this deck has those features then I say this is a great buy! FREE SHIP TOO!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this unit solely because of the AUX iPod feature and the price. I was very unsatisfied with the wireless iTrip and have been looking at various direct connection setups. The radio lets you access the tunes by Artist, Album, or Playlist. A lot of radios do not allow this much control over the iPod. Installation in an F-150 Supercrew was a breeze after one quick call to Crutchfield tech support.

1996 Honda Accord LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to step up the audio in my car, and with the recent gift of an iPod I was also looking for iPod compatibility. After looking through several Pioneer, Alpine, etc., I came across this reciever on the labor day sale. Definately a good deal. This is a nice unit and makes my car look very nice. Although you cannot customize the screen saver and pictures on this unit. It has got 5 SQ settings that actually do stuff compared to my old Panasonic Deck.
The only complaints I have are the Aux input, and 3-preouts are like un-removable dongles that hang off the back of the stereo, so they tend to get in the way when installing and removing the radio. Also, the iPod adator is an L plug, but the wire shoots up instead of down like it should. Minor complaints, and the iPod interface is quite fast.

iPod Integration that Works

Written by: Chris from Los Angeles CA on September 16, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I traded a Sony CDX-GT300+iPod adapter for this setup. What a difference. Great power, great sound, an iPod interface that actually works and would be welcomed by hardcore iPod users. The EQ schemes are more than just a bunch of presets, they actually have unique sound emphasis that can be further custom tailored. The display is simply beautiful and practical since it shows so much info which is crucial when dealing with an iPod. The brightness people complain about is adjustable, but it would have been nice to have it dim automatically when lights are turned on, something most other units have including the Sony. Setting the Tuner presets will take a bit of manual reading. Scrolling through long list of playlist is a bit annoying since you can't advance by hold the up or down button, so you have to repeatedly press and let go. But otherwise, iPod navigation and speed is about the best that I've seen. One thing that the Sony had that I wish this unit could have had is the DSO sound processing that virtually moves the front speakers closer to you if it happens to be mounted too low. But overall this is a more powerful and solid unit.
The front face uses a bit too much glossy surface making the unit look very plastic and a bit cheap. The Sony looks more expensive but the Panasonic has the nice larger buttons. If you're using an iPod, make sure you turn off any EQ settings on the iPod itself, otherwise it might sound a bit distorted. The Sony does not use the iPod EQ setting at all. The RCA connectors come off the unit on pig tails, which adds a bit more mass and mess to the back of the unit so it was a bit hard to push the unit into the DIN slot, but I managed.

2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I really like the deck. when I purchased the deck I had 3 major concerns as I spend a lot of time in my truck driving; readable display during the day, display that is not too bright at night, and easy ipod navigation (oh, and sirius integration).

to date I have not purchased the sirius receiver for deck integration.

the display is very readable during the day, and does not auto dim with the headlights, but has a dimmer button right on the front of the deck with easy access with 3 selections.

the deck is not real bright at night, but still brighter then I prefer. the reason for this is that it has a lot of surface area that lights, and it is by far more surface area then anything in my vehicle so it tends to draw my attention. however, I have been in several vehicles where this would not be the case. I have also had several people say it is the 'calmest' aftermarket deck that they have seen at night.

ipod - I usually listen to the music on my ipod based by genre. I was not able to do this with the ipod. you only have 3 option to see your music on the ipod; play list, album, and artist. I easily solved this by making up play lists so it wasn't much of a problems. I did find another work around; you can start playing music on your ipod, plug it into your dec, and it will play / continue playing whatever you had selected.

overall I am very happy with this dec. the equalizer only has 3 areas you can customize, but you can alter you curves by shifting the peak in each area to a different frequency which gives it enough versatility.

desirable options more versatile customization in equalizer, auto dim with headlights.

2005 Ford Escape
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the Panasonic MXE CQ-C7203U for its iPod adapter, Mp3 playback, and satellite radio readiness. It installed easily. I was very pleased with Crutchfield's technical support which I needed to connect the car's built in subwoofer. (I should have figured it out myself.)

The unit sounds great, and is fairly intuitive to operate, especially considering all the available functions. I have noted that when using the iPod adapter it is a bit more difficult to navigate all the playlists, artists, albums than when using the iPod. The multifunction knob on the Panasonic does not scroll as easily as the iPod. The same is true with Mp3 disks with multiple folders. It's not bad, though. The random function does not work with my version of the iPod, but I can turn that on directly on the iPod if I really need it.

The Panasonic MXE CQ-C7203U will require Panasonic's expansion model CY-EM100U if you wish to use both the iPod adapter and one of the satellite radio adapters. That will add $129 to the price of the system. A perspective buyer will need to determine if the additional cost is worth it.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the Panasonic MXE CQ-C7203U and would purchase it again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the factory unit in my 2003 Dakota (standard cab) after already having replaced the speakers with Audiobahn AS50Q 5.25" and Pioneer TS-A1781R 6.75" and there was a significant improvement in sound quality.

The iPod adapter is working great and I've got my SkiFi2 unit connected via the AUX input and it is working great and the sound improvement (vs FM transmitting) is very impressive.

I'm not a huge fan of the overall display and the iPod controls could be improved, but these are really small nits.

For the price I couldn't even begin to recommend anything else.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Panasonic did a fine job on making this stereo. There isn't a problem with it, except the iPod scrolling like others have mentioned. I would have rated this product with five stars, but because I have a good deal of music on my iPod, I have to create a bunch of playlists. I found though whatever you were listening to last on your iPod, will begin playing once connected and the source selected. That way if you have an idea what you want to listen right away, than you can do so.

With the $50 iPod adapter and great reviews, you really can't go wrong here.

Using with iPod and Satellite Radio

Written by: Lance from Lake Nacimiento, CA on August 2, 2006

This is a big improvement over stock, as the others have said.

For a little more money, go with the CQ-C7303U and get customizable displays, better equalizer, and the SRS WOW feature, which is pretty amazing!

Also, if you plan to use more than one connected device (ipod cable, XM/Sirius, Bluetooth, etc.) then you will need to get the expansion module CY-EM100U, since there is only one plug on the back of any of the Panasonic Head Units. For a few hundred bucks, you can have a system that does everything that a much more expensive factory system could do, and it will look and sound a lot better!

Some of the reviews are incorrect, for example, this radio has 18 FM and 6 AM preset channels. To get the real story, use the links that Crutchfield supplies to get the manuals and check out stuff that you are thinking of buying, or call the tech line.

Thanks, Crutchfield, for unmatched technical support and customer service!

Once again, I got exactly what I ordered from Crutchfield, very quickly. Just 2 business days after I ordered it, it was at my door. The thing they included for free, which covored the big DIN hole in the dash and left room for the stereo was absolutly perfect. It almost looks like it came with the car!

The headunit itself perfroms amazingly. Would've liked to have more presets but that's ok. I love the iPod controls. It's quick on shuffle and a breeze to get to artists or albums right from the stereo. My iPod just sits under the seat now!

I was looking for something not too expensive, with MP3 playback, motorized face and IPOD connection. This ones does it all. Plus it got the IPOD adapter for free. The graphic screen is very pleasant but kind'a a bit too bright at night (even with contrast turned down). The IPOD connection is perfect. Sound is much better via the IPOD cable than my radio transmitter. Direct IPOD sound is better than my MP3 CD I authored.

Overall design is good. Tuning of radio is a bit cumbersome due to the lack of buttons (but that is the design to minimize the number of buttons).

Overall, very happy with this unit.

I purchased this unit for my wife's Subaru Legacy wagon. The main reason I purchased this was for the free ipod adaptor. The sound is great, and the controls are easy to use. The ipod is easy to access using the contols on the unit. The only draw back is that you can't control the illumination, at night it's way to bright for me. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have never owned a Panasonic stereo before, so I was buying based solely on the reviews of the product.

Fortunately, for me, the reviews were correct. This is an excellent head unit for the money. The sound is a hundred times better than the factory unit, and my iPod is recognized quickly and consistently. Much more reliably than the USA Spec connector I had for the factory stereo.

Installation was simple enough. The most difficult part of the installation was running the iPod connector under the carpet and into the center console.

The stereo is much louder than the factory unit, and bass is sufficient with the four Sony 5"X7"'s.

I would definitely recommend this unit, but I wish I would have spent a little more and bought the unit with the 7-band graphic EQ. I could only imagine that it sound even better.

i bought this head unit from crutchfield. everything went smoothly with the install. i had 2 kicker cvr in a ported box tuned at 45hz. everything was good except the bass so i got one 12'' alpine type R sub tuned at 29hz. and this thing is much better than the kickers. except now when bass hits my head unit skips. i have talked about this issue on car audio forum sites and from my understanding it happens to all panasonic head units. i would ONLY reconmend this head unit if you are not going to have subs. go pioneer or alpine if you wants subs.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit primarily for the direct iPod connection to my Civic. At $200 with free iPod adapter, you really can't go wrong. The unit itself sounds great, and was easy to install. Two minor negatives that are probably easily remedied by the user: 1) the unit is mounted at a slight angle, so the display is not a clear from the normal driving position (probably my fault), and 2) the iPod interface is not as fast as the iPod's (though it is fast), so scrolling through artists tends to take more time than I'm used to (perhaps I'll just create more playlists or be more patient). Also, I love the remote control.

good value - easy to use

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this in my '06 Silverado WT that had the base AM/FM stereo. I replaced all 4 of the speakers with some decent pioneer 6.5's and 4x6's and it made a big improvement with the stock radio. Then I purchased the panasonic head unit and installed it and all I can say is WOW! I never would have believed the difference if I hadn't heard it myself. Unit has nice display and is very reasonably priced....honestly I bought it because of the free ipod connector which is what I listen to 90% of the time.....I only have 1 gripe.....the ipod onscreen menu to scroll through artists and/or songs is have to literally hit the up and down button HUNDREDS of times if you have a big music library. And the fact that each time you have to start at A and work your way down (ZZ Top would take 388 button depressions for me)is crazy......makes you realize what a terrific invention the ipod wheel is.......this radio needs a wheel or at least a turbo scroll button (like you hold down the V button and it scrolls extra fast). Other than that I highly recommend this unit. Perhaps this will finally force me to clean up my library and make some playlists......

Excellent all around head unit

I bought this to replace my old Panasonic Ghost Face because its Panasonic, the direct Ipod connection, and price. Panasonic has been bulletproof. Ive used Panasonic exclusively for 7yrs now without problem. The display is highly visible and is even legible in bright direct light conditions. Like most of Panasonics head units the EQ controls and other audio options are easy to navigate and adjust. However, I have had some difficulty with other functions--the clock (I set it easily once) and radio presets, BUT thats what the manuals for I guess. The adapter has a ~10ft cord which means you can hide your Ipod in the more fumbling with the Ipod, it can be hidden out of sight! The sound is 10 times better using the adapter versus the auxillary audio input and 100 times better than the FM transmitters. The negative: 1) In order to listen to specific artists or albums it can be tedious to scroll through 100s of artists three lines at a time and you always have to start at A and progress that way. Solution: I have gotten around this by setting up 20-30 playlists which are much easier to navigate. 2)The display only displays two lines of the song info, you have two (maybe three) choices--song title and artist OR song title and album title. Not a big deal, but why cant I have all three?
I use this to push 4-6.5" Infinity Kappas and 2-10" RF Punch subs (w/a mono 500W amp). I get great sound clarity, excellent highs and mids, and punchy bass--perfect for everyday (I listen to rock 95% of the time). The direct sub control is always nice. There are several preset EQ or you can do custom EQ settings. Overall, its a great value, and I highly recommend it.

1997 Chevrolet Blazer

where to start with this cd player. well i just replaced the factory radio out of my 97 blazer and i was also thinking i needed to replace all my speakers as well, but now after installing this cd player and a 10" sub, my stereo sounds great. i still might change the speakers for an improvement in sound but its really not bad at all. and THE IPOD ADAPTER FOR FREE! how can you beat that. if you have an ipod this is the way to go. just plug it right in and let it charge as you listen to anything you want. only thing is with the ipod you never really have any use for carying around cds. with the adapter though you cant control any features on your ipod while plugged in it just displays the panasonic logo. all the functions have to be controlled through the deck, which really isnt that hard. i kind of like it. so if your debating about getting an ipod mount for your car with the adapter dont bother cause all you will be mounting it for is to see panasonic written across the screen. just plug it in and set it in your middle counsle if you can. everything about this stereo is really nice and it is still sharp looking but subtle at the same time with a blue glow. not much i can really say about it besides if you are thinking about getting this then get it.

CD Changer Controls

Motorized Sliding Face: The CQ-C7203U features a motorized sliding detachable face with a large bright display. When you press the eject button, the face slides down to allow you to insert or remove a CD. For best visibility, you can utilize the 3-stage tilt function to angle the faceplate at 15°, 25°, or 35°. When the security function is activated, an alarm will sound and a message will appear to remind you to remove the faceplate. After the faceplate is removed, a flashing red LED warns potential thieves. A hard plastic face case is supplied for carrying your detached faceplate.

High Definition 3D Dot Matrix Display: The receiver's faceplate features a High Definition 3D Dot Matrix display with 3 motion patterns, 1 spectrum analyzer,  and 10 still pattern presets to choose from.

Day & Night Design: The CQ-C7203U has Panasonic's popular Day & Night Design. During the day, the faceplate has a sleek, black design. At night, a series of blue LEDs around the frame of the nosepiece and around the circumference of the two main buttons give off a blue glow.

MP3/WMA Compatible: The CQ-C7203U can play MP3 and WMA files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs in ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Apple Extension to ISO 9660, Joliet, and Romeo. The player can support up to 511 files, 255 files in one folder, 8 levels, and 255 folders.

Satellite Radio Ready: You can connect a satellite radio tuner to the CQ-C7203U in a number of ways. The unit is directly compatible with the SIRIUS SIR-PAN1 Satellite Tuner for Panasonic (item # 607SIRPAN1). In addition, you can connect an independently controlled "plug 'n play" unit to the head unit through the rear aux input.

Auxiliary Input: A set of female RCA jacks is provided to allow the connection of a portable audio source. Just connect your portable cassette, MD or MP3 player to this unit, and you can listen to the audio from the portable player through the speakers in your mobile audio system.

3-Level Dimmer: The display's brightness can be set to one of three dimmer levels.

CEA-2006 Compliant: The specifications given by Panasonic for the built-in amplifier comply with the CEA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.

Subwoofer Output: In addition to front and rear preamp outputs, the receiver has a non-fading, two-channel subwoofer output. You can adjust the volume of the subwoofer output from -6dB to +6dB in 2dB increments. In addition, you can set the frequency of the built-in low pass filter at 80Hz, 120Hz, or 160Hz.

Sound Quality (SQ3): In addition to the bass and treble adjustments, the unit's Sound Quality 3 functions allow you to set the level and center frequency of each of three bands. You can adjust each band by +/-12dB at the following frequencies: Band 1 at 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or 200Hz, Band 2 at 500Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz, or 3kHz, and Band 3 at 10kHz, 12kHz, 15kHz, or 18kHz. There are six SQ3 settings:

  • SQ-Rock: speedy and heavy sound; exaggerates bass and treble
  • SQ-Pop: wide-ranged and deep sound; slightly emphasizes bass and treble
  • SQ-Vocal: clear sound; emphasizes middle tone and slightly emphasizes treble
  • SQ-Jazz: jazz-specific deep sound with emphasis on sharpness of high-hat and echo of saxophone
  • SQ-Club: club and disco specific sound: reproduction of realism being in a club
  • SQ-Flat: flat frequency response; no emphasis applied

Mute/Attenuate: This unit allows you to choose between mute (volume at 0), attenuate level 1 (volume decreased by 10 steps), or attenuate level 2 (volume decreased by 5 steps) when you want to decrease the volume instantly. After selecting mute or attenuate 1 or 2 in the menu, pressing the Mute button activates either function and the Mute indicator light glows in the display.

Direct Memory (D-M): You can store a favorite station into Direct Memory. You can immediately tune to that frequency at any time, even if the unit is turned off, by pressing the D-M button.

Remote Control: The CQ-C7203U is equipped with a wireless remote control (EUR7641010). The dimensions of the remote are: W=1.64", H=0.664", L=3.762". The remote is powered by a CR2025 lithium battery (supplied).

Display Note: Pressing and holding the Source button turns the unit off completely. After the unit has been turned off, you can use the DISP button to switch the clock display and face/button illumination on and off. If you leave the clock display and face/button illumination on, they are "keyed." If you turn the clock display and face/button illumination off, they only turn on when the unit is turned on ("unit on" operation).

Note: The Source button stays lit even with the clock display and other button illumination turned off.
