About the Panasonic KX-PRW120W

Ralph Graves
The Panasonic Home Phone Connect is more than just another cordless phone system — it's a virtual communications hub for your handsets, smartphones, and tablets. You just need a home Wi-Fi network and the KX-PRW120W. Download the free Panasonic Smartphone Connection app to your iPhone®, iPad®, or Android smartphone or tablet. The app lets you link up to four portable devices to the system. From your smartphone you can make and take calls over your landline, use it as an intercom, play back messages, review your home's call log and more. You also get the same functionality from the optional KX-PRWA13W compatible handsets you add (up to 6).

The system's handset features a large 2.2” LCD screen. You can transfer contact information from your smartphone to the system, so when a call comes in, the handset can display image and text info just like your portable device. And the handset's designed so you can easily hold it and dial with the same hand.

DECT cordless technology

The KX-PRW120W uses DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) technology for clear conversations with reduced noise and excellent cordless range. It operates on the 1.9 GHz frequency bandwidth, so it won't interfere with Wi-Fi® computer networks or other common wireless devices.

NOTE: Smartphone functionality is limited to home Wi-Fi network. Will not work from remote location.

Product Research

Features

2.2" LCD screen: The Panasonic KX-PRW120 phone features an easy to read 2.2" TFT color LCD (QVGA) screen with an intuitive graphic user interface.

Stylish & Comfortable Design: This phone incorporates real metal to provide a sophisticated finish with a comfortable grip. The Handset sits comfortably and securely in place on the base via a magnetic design. Its lay downy style makes it easy to pick up, operate, and dial with only one hand.

DECT 6.0 Plus Technology: DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) operates in the 1.9 GHz frequency range, which means the KX-PRW120 phone will not conflict with other wireless devices such as computer routers, wireless keyboards, microwave ovens and other common household devices. DECT 6.0 Plus provides an 80x increase in signal correction resolution over conventional DECT 6.0 handsets.

Note: The Panasonic KX-PRW120 phone system is expandable up to six DECT handsets (KX-PRWA10, sold separately).

Clearer Conversations: Additionally, for excellent performance, the Panasonic KX-PRW120 phone system incorporates noise reduction, equalizer, and clarity booster features.

  • Nose Reduction: Noise reduction allows you to hear the voice of the person you are talking to clearly, by reducing the surrounding noise coming from the other party's telephone.
  • Equalizer: The Equalizer clarifies the voice of the person you are talking to, producing a more natural-sounding voice that is easier to hear and understand.
  • Clarity Booster: Clarity Booster can improve sound clarity when the handset is used in an area where there may be interference. During an outside call, this feature is turned on automatically when necessary.

Handset Speakerphone: The cordless handset can double as a speakerphone for hands-free conversations.

Phonebook + Speed Dialing: You can add 500 names (16 characters max.) and phone numbers (24 digits max.) to the phonebook, and assign each phonebook entry to the desired group.  Up to 3 phone numbers for each contact name can be stored. You can also assign phone numbers stored in your contacts to the dial keys 1-9, and then dial those phone numbers by pressing and holding the dial keys for quicker dialing. The total number of entries that can be stored in the Phonebook varies depending on how many phone numbers you have stored for each entry. Total number of phonebook entries is shown below:

  • 1 name + 1 phone number: 500 entries
  • 1 name + 2 phone numbers: 250 entries
  • 1 name + 3 phone numbers: 166 entries

Talking Caller ID w/ Call Waiting: This phone system is compatible with Caller ID services offered by your telephone company. If you subscribe to Caller ID, the caller's name and phone number will be displayed and recorded in the handset's Caller List.  The phone system's talking caller ID feature even announces who is calling. If you subscribe to Call Waiting with Caller ID, when talking on the phone as another call comes in, the second caller's name and phone number will be displayed.

Caller List + Call Block: The phone system records information for the last 50 callers and stores this information in the Caller List. The unit can show the number of calls you missed. You can call back any number in the caller list. Once a number is in the Caller List, it can be manually or automatically edited (to add or remove area codes or prefixes), saved in the Directory, or deleted. Store the Caller ID info of any and all unwanted callers into your phone's Call Block list (up to 100) so that you can eliminate future pesky calls from them. After their information is stored, they'll get a busy signal.

Digital Answering System + Voice Mail: The base unit's answering system can answer calls after a certain number of rings. When it answers a call, it plays a greeting message and can then record caller messages. Messages are stored in the base unit, and you can play them using a handset when at home or remotely by using an outside telephone. The phone system features a visual and audible alert that a message has been recorded. While a caller is leaving a message, you can even listen to the call through the handset's speaker. The answering system cannot answer calls if you are talking on the phone. The total recording capacity is about 38 minutes; a maximum of 64 messages can be recorded. The KX-PRW120 will also integrate with your telephone company's voice mail service to make it easier to retrieve your messages.

Smartphone Connect: Smartphone Connect lets you use your smartphone as an additional DECT handset (requires wireless router for WiFi connection). Simply download Panasonic's free Smartphone Connect app onto your Apple iPhone/iPad (iOS5.0+) or Android smartphone/tablet (OS 4.0+) from the iTunes App Store or Google Play Store; the app must be installed on each add-on smartphone or tablet. You can connect up to four smartphones or tablets. Smartphone Connect features include:

  • You can set your smartphone to receive landline phone calls from Panasonic KX-PRW120 phone system.
  • You can make landline calls from your smartphone using the phonebook in your smartphone, without having to copy it to the DECT handset. Names and groupings from your phonebook can be used, making it easy to find your contacts.
  • Copy phonebook entries from your smartphone to the Panasonic phone system, instead of entering them manually.
  • You'll be able to transfer landline calls between your smartphone and Panasonic KX-PRW120 handset.
  • You can create and Intercom between your smartphone and DECT handset.
  • Make 3 party conference calls (outside caller - DECT handset - smartphone).
  • Copy Ringtone and Wallpaper Images from your Android smartphone to the KX-PRW120 handset.
  • Play The KX-PRW120's answering system messages on your smartphone; a SMS alert is sent to your smartphone when a message is received.
Note: You must configure both the KX-PRW120's base unit and your smartphone to connect wirelessly to your home network via your wireless router. A wireless router IEEE 802.11g or IEEE 802.11n is recommended.

Hold & Flash Keys: While on an outside call, you can place the caller on Hold.  If you have the Call Waiting service, you can use the flash key to put the first call on hold, allowing you to answer a second incoming call. You can adjust the length of the flash time if necessary.

Alarms: An alarm sounds at the set time for one minute and is repeated five times at five minute intervals (snooze function). A text memo can also be displayed for the alarm. A total of five separate alarm times can be programmed for each handset. You can set one of 3 different alarm options (once, daily, or weekly) for each alarm time.

Silent Mode: Silent mode allows you to select a period of time during which the handset will not ring for outside calls. This feature is useful for time periods when you do not want to be disturbed (for example, while sleeping). Silent mode can be set for each handset. Using the system's phonebook, you can also select groups of callers whose calls override silent mode and ring the handset (Caller ID subscribers only).

Baby Monitor: This feature allows you to listen in on a room where another handset is located, allowing you to easily monitor from different areas of the house or place. The monitored handset (placed in a baby's room, for example) will automatically call the monitoring handset or
the phone number stored when it detects sound.

Key Detector Compatible: Attach Panasonic's optional Key Detector (KX-TGA20, sold separately) to your car key ring or other easily misplaced items and forget about ever losing them ever again. Using the KX-PRW120 phone, you can activate the Key Detector's beeping alarm and quickly track down your lost keys. Key Detector's powerful range finds objects up to 200 yards away so you'll find whatever's lost whether it's upstairs, in your car or in the yard. You can register up to four Key Detectors and give each a distinctive name.

Rechargeable Batteries: The Panasonic KX-PRW120 phone system's handset operates off of two rechargeable Ni-MH "AAA" batteries (included). The batteries are charged when the handset is placed on the base.

Q
how is a headset connected? What kind of connection?

A
There is no connection plug for a headset. If one is used I'd imagine it would have to be Bluetooth but you'd need to double check that. A headset wasn't a requirement. All in all this is a very nice phone, very minimal, sleek and elegant looking...works great as well! Finally something other than the boring same old looking home phones for those who still a land line on occasion.
