Features

Add-on Handset: The KX-TGA401 cordless handset is an add-on accessory for select Panasonic cordless phone systems. It is compatible with the KX-TG40xx-, KX-TG65xx-, and KX-TG75xx-series digital cordless phones. It is not a stand-alone phone. It must first be registered to the base unit of the cordless phone system before it can be used.

DECT 6.0 Plus: The Panasonic KX-TGA401 uses DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) 6.0 Plus technology, which lets you move freely around your home with long range and clear sound. Operating in the 1.9 GHz frequency range (1.92 GHz to 1.93 GHz), your phone will not conflict with other wireless devices such as computer routers, wireless keyboards, microwave ovens and other common household devices.

Handset Speakerphone: The cordless handset can double as a speakerphone for hands-free conversations. You can choose from six volume settings for the speakerphone.

Optional Headset: The handset is compatible with the following optional Panasonic hands-free headsets: KX-TCA60, KX-TCA93, KX-TCA400, and KX-TCA430. The headsets plug into the handset's side-mounted 2.5mm sub-minijack.

Handset LCD: The cordless handset features a bright backlit 1.8" LCD screen. The display will show lots of information, including Caller ID info, battery strength, Caller List, Phone Book, plus the Feature Menu. You can adjust the contrast of the LCD from 1-6.

Soft Keys: Located below the LCD screen, three soft keys are provided for selecting functions displayed directly above the keys. Functions displayed above the keys will change depending upon the state of use.

Ringer Options: You can select one of six ringer volume settings or Off for the cordless handset. In addition, the handset has five ring tones and five ring melodies to choose from.

Caller ID: This unit is compatible with Caller ID services offered by your telephone company. If you subscribe to Caller ID, the caller's name and phone number will be displayed and recorded in the handset's Caller List.

Call Waiting Caller ID: If you subscribe to both Call Waiting and Caller ID, when talking on the phone as another call comes in, the second caller's name and phone number will be displayed.

Call Block: If you subscribe to Caller ID, you can enter the phone numbers (up to 30) from which you do not want to receive calls. You can also block calls without a phone number, including those that show "Out of Area", "Private Caller", or "Long Distance".

Caller List: The unit can record information for up to 50 different callers and store this information in the Caller List, including calls you missed. You can call back any number in the caller list. Once a number is in the Caller List, it can be manually or automatically edited (to add or remove area codes or prefixes), saved in the Phone Book, or deleted.

Shared Phone Book: You can store up to 50 names and phone numbers into the shared Phone Book. Any handset registered to the base unit can use the shared phonebook, however only one person can access the shared phonebook at a time. The directory names are sorted alphabetically. You can enter names up to 16 characters, and enter phone numbers up to 32 digits. A pause can be entered in the phone number if required for dialing. Each pause is stored as one digit, and the pause is approximately 3.5 seconds.

Redial List: You can review a list of the last five numbers dialed, then call any of those numbers.

Alarm: You can set one of 2 different alarms (once or daily) at a time for each registered handset. You can choose an alarm sound from 3 tones and 4 melodies.

Silent Mode: You can select a period of time during which the handset will not ring for outside calls. This is useful for time periods when you do not want to be disturbed, such as while sleeping. The Silent Mode can be set for each handset independently. In the menu, you can turn the Silent Mode on and off, and set the start and end time of the Silent Mode.

Mute/Hold: This system features both a Mute key and a Hold feature on the cordless handset and base. If you wish to temporarily mute the conversation, you can mute the handset so the other party cannot hear you, but you can still hear the other party. You can put the call on Hold for up to 10 minutes. After 9 minutes, the handset will sound an alarm tone, after another minute, the call is disconnected.

Call Transfer/Intercom: If you have more than one handset registered to the phone, calls can be transferred from one handset to another handset. You can also set-up a 2-way conversation between two handsets (intercom).

Conference Calls: Up to 2 handsets can have a conference call with an outside party.

Battery Information: The handset comes with two "AAA"-sized, HHR-4DPA rechargeable Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. Ni-MH batteries do not develop the "memory" effect like many Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cad) rechargeable batteries do. You can also use other brands of rechargeable "AAA" Ni-MH batteries, if desired. (Capacity and charging times may vary with other brands.) Specifications for the supplied batteries are:

  • Initial Charge Time: 7 hours
  • Battery Talk Time: approximately 13 hours continuous use
  • Battery Standby Time: approximately 11 days

Wall Mounting: The charger can be wall-mounted using the integrated slots.

Dimensions: The handset has the following dimensions:

  Width Height Depth
Handset on charger 2.813" 7.4375" 3.375"
Handset only 1.887" 6.619" 1.173"
Charger only 2.813" 1.978" 3.375"

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just plain doesn't work. Will not ring at all and I'm having to return it.

I had difficulty at first adding my handset to the system as well; however, when I followed the instructions exactly by pressing the button first on the base then on the handset it registered just fine. Just make sure you follow the manual exactly word for word and it should work; if it does not, then you got a defective handset. [ Jeff  Jun 05, 2014 ]
