Rosen SB1010-H11 Reviews
Average Customer Review:
Installed on 2010 Subaru STi (non-nav radio)
I was worried about the price tag but the promise of having navigation and bluetooth fully integrated in a factory look package was too good not to try. I had it all installed within a few hours and we used the system for a few days. The fit and finish was excellent and looked like it came from the factory.
What we first noticed was that the navigation unit was slow to respond and we often missed the turn before the unit said to turn. The slowness also translated to switching between the different screens and meus. It wasn't horrible but not something you wanted to deal with while driving.
Secondly the unit would pair up with our Verizon HTC Incredible (Android) phone but would not actually work properly. You could answer calls but the microphone was not working. The unit worked fine when paired to an AT&T Samsung Focus (Windows Phone) but the microphone on the headunit was weak and you could barely have a conversation while driving.
Finally the built in CD player and CD caching feature was a little lame. You actually have to play the full CD in realtime to cache it. If you stopped at any point you'd have a part of a track and only part of the album.
Overall this unit was a dissapointment for the price. The core features we wanted did not deliver and ultimately made this unit worse than the factory unit by adding slowness and complexity.
It's really too bad, I was really hoping this unit would deliver!
Pros: Factory look and feel. Factory fit. Promise of integrated nav, bluetooth and radio. Touchscreen and physical buttons. Sound quality was better than factory.
Cons: Slow navigation response when navigating. Layout of touchscreen controls was a little cumbersome to switch between modes. Slow to switch modes. Bluetooth did not work with HTC Incredible Android phone.
Nice, but not perfect
The Rosen unit is nice, but it is quirky. Once installed, it looks stock. The dash trim fits almost perfectly, and the dash lights, the color of the plastic, and the button-layout all match the interior perfectly. The sound the unit produces is crisper and cleaner than the factory headunit. The ipod integration is much much much better than the factory ipod controls. The Navigation function is nice, although I am still getting used to it. I am used to a Garmin Nuvi, and the Rosen Nav has some nice features that the Garmin doesn't. The quirks of the unit seem to be the interface between the Navigation software and the Radio/video/ipod software, as they are two completely different products that don't seem to get along very well. I'm still trying to figure this out. Finally, three features of my stock stereo that are not on the Rosen unit are: 1) that nice fade when turning the radio on or off, or when muting; 2) the automatic speed-sensitive volume adjustment; and 3) radio station tagging (which displays what station and program you are listing to (e.g., "NPR," "Morning Edition," etc.). Overall I am pleased but not blown away. It is a hefty pricetag, so I am now really hoping it remains a reliable unit.
Pros: Factory Look Available options and expandability Sound
Cons: Loses some nice factory functions Quirky Price (and not sure about longevity)

The unit offers 5 audio and visual languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean).
Note: This unit does not offer text-to-speech.
Map View: Rosen Navigation's map screen looks similar to paper road maps. The on-screen map shows the streets in a way that is similar to how the paper road maps show them. Their width and colors correspond to their importance, so you can easily tell a highway from a small street. You can choose from the following map perspectives.
- 2D: Classic top-down two-dimensional view (always facing North).
- 3D: Three-dimensional perspective view (automatically rotates to driving direction).
