Long-lasting performance

This W0v3 Series sub features a tough polypropylene cone that resists flexing, and a durable foam surround that'll stand up to hard use. The cone's extra-long excursion capability lets it hit truly deep notes without distorting, while the hefty 2-inch voice coil drives the woofer accurately for top-notch performance under extreme conditions.

The patented elevated frame design delivers air flow directly to the voice coil, cooling it for better power handling. JL Audio designed this sub to work in compact sealed or medium-sized ported enclosures, and they offer an optional grille that'll protect your JL Audio sub in its box.

Product Research

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, 10W0v3-4 motors display linear force over a long excursion range, and also maintain a stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the 10W0v3-4 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top plate to the voice coil. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Rear Gasket: The woofer has a rear gasket to provide an optimal seal when installing into the enclosure.

Long Excursion: The 10W0v3-4 subwoofer has 11.4mm of linear excursion, giving you louder bass with less distortion.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: JL Audio recommends a 0.65 ft³ sealed box. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 18" W x 11" H x 9" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.)

Recommended Ported Box Volume: JL Audio recommends a 1.125 ft³ ported box. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a ported box with external dimensions of 23" W x 12" H x 13.625" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) A slot port measuring 10.5" tall x 1.25" wide x 32" long is recommended, resulting in a tuning frequency of 30 Hz and a -3 dB point of 29.6 Hz.

Customer Q&A

34 questions already asked

Q
I have sealed box that is made for two 10" subs with a 6"mounting depth and a volume of 0.6 cu. Ft. Per sub, will these subs be a good fit for my enclosure? Also what amp would best pair if I were to run this setup?
terren  Dec 17, 2023
1 answer
A
These JL Audio 10W0v3-4 subwoofers need 4 15/16" in top mount depth Terren, so they are a fit in your box in that regard. If you have .6 cubes per subwoofer before installing the subwoofer, that means the usable air space for the subwoofer to work in is even smaller than that since the magnet and basket will take up some space. These JL Audio 10W0v3-4 subwoofers have an ideal sealed box volume of .65 cubic feet, so your current box sounds a little small for optimum performance from the JL Audio subwoofers. I would consider using the JL Audio 10TW1-4 in the link below as it can work well in smaller boxes! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13610TW14/JL-Audio-10TW1-4.html

Q
What is the difference in the JL w0 and JL w1 10" svc woofer?
matthew  Jun 26, 2023
1 answer
A
The W0 is a great value entry-level option capable of producing a decent amount of bass for its price. The W1 is a higher quality option with cleaner, tighter bass. Overall, bass quality is better with the W1.

Q
Can I fit this sub in a box with the max mounting depth is 5"? Also wiring 2 together to get an 2ohm load does the max rms change or stay the same?
kevin  Feb 18, 2023
1 answer
A
You could use a box with a 5" depth with that subwoofer as it just meets the max depth and you would double the RMS if you plan on wiring the two subs together so you would be looking for an amp rated around 600 watts at the 2 ohm load.

Q
Will this fit under the seats in a 2001 Chevy extended cab?
chris.fixx  Feb 14, 2023
1 answer
A
We cannot qualify any fit for universal subwoofers like the potent JL Audio 10WOv3-4, Chris. You do have an option to use the SPL boxes dual 12" box in the link below, which is a fit under the seats for your 01 Extended cab. The JL 12" WO is too deep to fit but you can use the 12W1v3 in the second link below as it is less than the 5.5" depth the box can handle. This would be a sweet setup! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_419152212B/SPL-Boxes-SB152-212BL.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13692082/JL-Audio-12W1v3-2.html

will this fit into a QBGMC07210 ported box from QPower?

Based on the information I found online for the box, this subwoofer can be used in that box!

Q
Would this sub work well for down-fire configuration? I need a sub that doesn't have much cone throw because my sub box only has about 1.75" floor clearance. Also, my sub box has an internal volume of .71 cu.ft. Would this box bee too big? I listen to a lot of music with deep bass and punchy kicks.
dennis  May 19, 2021
1 answer
A
I have 2 of these subs and my box is 1.5 cu.ft. and I haven't had any problems. As for the configuration, mine are facing upward. However I've noticed how the cone never extrudes past the rim of the speaker when playing even with deeper notes. Hopes this helps.

I guess that depends on one,s interpretation. It is, however, a great all-around sounding sub

Q
If i get 2 of these and wire them down to 2 ohm, they are on separate terminals too; will the final impedance be 1ohm if i hook them into a 1ohm stable amp? Im undwr the impression w a 1ohm amp will split each 2ohm in half?
shannon  Nov 24, 2020
1 answer
A
It is not possible to wire two of these subwoofers to a 1 ohm load. The lowest impedance they can be wired is 2 ohms. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on subwoofers that will work

A one ohm stable amp means the amp will safely handle a one ohm load. Wiring two 2 ohm speakers in parallel will give you a 1 ohm load. Wiring two 4 ohm speakers in parallel will give you a 2 ohm load.

l was thinking of upgrading my Kickers 2 10tens subs to JL is this going to sound better than kickers?
samuel  Aug 01, 2020

JL Audio has much better quality than Kickers. Ive had these before and they sound amazing, punchy or clear depending on your use when paired with an amp, correct wiring, and a sealed or ported box.

Q
a 0.95 cubic ft sealed box be too big for this sub-woofer?
juan  May 03, 2018
2 answers
A
That is about time and a half the recommendations from JL. They are spot on with their specs so I tend to stay as close to them as possible. That said, your personal preference on sound may dictate that you are going with just what you need. I would give it a shot and see if you get the bass you're looking for. Hope that helps.
anthony  May 08, 2018
A
It is bigger than the specs suggest , but it will work if you absolutely can't get closer to specs.
jason  May 08, 2018
Q
I have an old school Punch 800a2 amp that puts out 200w rms x 2 at 4 ohms per channel and 800w on a 4 ohm load running in mono. If I run a single one of these subs, can I run it off of only one channel and leave the other channel unused? The amp is probably overkill for this sub, but I don't want to buy a different amp and I don't want to/can't step up to a w3 or a thin line because they are super expensive and probably overkill for what I want.
jonathan  Nov 30, 2017

A
Thanks for your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your amplifier in more detail. They will be able to help determine if the JL W0v3-4 is the right option; and if not, they can suggest an alternative better suited for your amp.

Q
Would this subwoofer be a better choice than running two 10WOV-3-4 subwoofers together in parallel? I'm trying to decide between the two.
orlando  Oct 22, 2017
1 answer
A
I would think it would depend on your amplifier, and subjectively on your needs. Im running a single with a nonported box sized to spec, as well as a RF amp at nearly 600w and I don't feel I would ever need more.

richard  Jun 19, 2017

It is. It's tight and punchy though I have it in a smaller box due to my truck size. 2008 chevy Silverado extended cab. Hope that helps.
mark a  Jun 18, 2017
A
Yes. High bass is really tight. Mid to lows sound good on these subs, but they do not project outside the vehicle very much. I was running three of these on direct with a 2000w Kenwood and they would hit really hard and tight inside the truck, but were not very loud outside the truck

Q
How is the transient response for this sub? I am looking for a sub that can react well to rock and electronic music with double bass drums. Would you recommend this sub for that application?

A
I can tell you that I listen to rock, metal, country and some electronic music and my sub hits perfect. I'm running mine in a sealed enclosure and putting 500w to it. I couldn't be happier.
brian  Jan 16, 2017
A
Yes, I have this sub and it's great! I have it in a sealed enclosure with a sound ordnance M-1500 amp. I mostly listen to rock and alternative, the response and punch is amazing.

Q
Is this sub suitable to use in a free air application?
matthew  Jan 16, 2017
1 answer
A
The JL Audio 10W0v3-4 is not designed for free-air installations. JL recommends either a sealed or ported box, and includes diagrams in the owner's manual with specific dimensions for both. If you would like to discuss further or explore free-air rated subs we car, you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
What is the minimum top mount depth for the box? The sub specs say its' mount depth is 4 15/16 and I have a box that is 5 1/4.... is that enough? Thanks!
hunter  Jul 29, 2014

A
I wish I could remember exactly how much room it took. Even though I don't recall the exact number, I do remember initially thinking that there was going to be enough room looking at the specs, but then I still end up having to buy a spacer to make them fit. I know the lack of exact details doesn't help as much, but that's what I recall.

A
If you are looking for an amp to only push the subs then you want to look for an amp that ranges between 500 and 600 watts.
tommy g  Apr 29, 2014
A
My one is currently wired into a 420w channel in my amp and that's too much power. I had to adjust the settings and ride around for awhile to get the sound just right. It states that the Recommended Power Range is 100-300w and that's the truth. So for two I say nothing over 800w.
adam  Apr 29, 2014
A
They have a 250 watt max I would run a 500-1 mono amp and bride the speakers so that both recieve 250 watts a speaker.wich will run these at the optimal power setting with blowing them
christopher  Apr 29, 2014
A
something rated at about 500watts rms for 2. why are you using two seperate amps? i would recomend an alpine pdx-v9.
jason s  Apr 29, 2014
A
At minimum I would suggest an amp that pushes 700 watts RMS.. it's always better to go with something a little more powerful than the sub so that you are actually powering the sub.. I had one of these in a sealed box with an 350 watt RMS amp it was an MTX mono block. No complaints.
jeremy  Apr 28, 2014
A
At minimum I would suggest an amp that pushes 200 watts RMS.. it's always better to go with something a little more powerful than the sub so that you are actually powering the sub.. I had one of these in a sealed box with an 150 watt RMS amp it was an MTX mono block. No complaints.
jeremy  Apr 28, 2014
A
I have a 300 watt amp powering one of these and it sounds great. Amp is turned up barely over half way. I would think a 400 to 500 watt amp should work well unless you like a heavy amount of bass. Thanks
