The affordable W1v2 subwoofer incorporates patented features developed by JL Audio for their legendary W7 subs. Special venting keeps the W1v2 sub running cool for trouble-free performance, while extensive research in cone bonding and motor assembly construction keeps its cone movement linear for precise, dependable output. The cone interlocks with the dust cap for superior rigidity, and a sophisticated suspension system keeps internal parts aligned properly.

The low-profile 10W1v2-4 10" subwoofer works best in compact enclosures, so you can put quality lows in smaller and hard-to-fit vehicles. It features a metallic-finish polypropylene cone with an embossed JL Audio logo for a look that stands out as much as the sound. The removable, customizable trim ring lets you put a personal touch on your system, and makes optional grille installation a snap. This punchy W1v2 sub works well with moderate power, delivering impressive performance without costing a fortune.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

i had some doubts about pairing this sub to my JL Audio 700/5 Amp,but this subwoofer sounds awesome! The box this was installed in is small enough to fit on the floor in the back of my Ford Ranger Supercab. i wanted the small rear seats to be both usable. This set up is perfect! You cant even see that i have a speaker box at all!

superb sound at a great price!

Pros: Price

Cons: 300 RMS handling power rating

I have two of these subs, paired with my Pioneer GM-D8500M Mono subwoofer amplifier - (600 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms), and the combination is perfect. I have a dual amp setup in my IS300, and also have a 4-channel JL Audio 300watt RMS amplifier powering my front and rear speakers, so now that I switched out my old pioneer subs powered by my Alpine MRP-1000, (1000watt RMS Mono amp), with a these and the Pioneer 600watt RMS amp, I can finally say, I am done messing with my system. Thank you JL and Pioneer :)

Pros: Everything!

Cons: None

I had my doubts when I got this sub. I was coming from the 12inch world. Needed more space in my trunk but wanted a similar sound. This sub is it!!!! I got it with a sealed box and I could not be happier. I'm very picky and the crutchfield advisors took their time with me which was much appreciated. The only thing I wish I did was purchase 2 but honestly one is enough.

Pros: Deep lows, solid sound, hits hard.

Cons: None

I had this sub in a sealed enclosure with recommended volume. It was driven by a JL audio Slash 250/1 mono amp. The bass is clean, however it sounds rather thin and lacks definition. The woofer produces significant mechanical noise at high volume. The Boston G1 which is less expensive but sounds better with deeper bass. I also have an Infinity Kappa from my other to compare and it sounds notches better than this. I love JL audio amplifiers but never been impressed with their subs including the JL W3. For sound quality, Infinity Kappa or Boston G2/G3 would be better choices.

Pros: None

Cons: Thin sounding bass.

Pros: This product handles every song perfectly. It plays Rap, Hip-Hop, country,ect... without ever sounding off key.

I have a 89 Iroc-Z 28 Camaro convertible with the 5.7. with the top down plus the Flow Master exhaust, I had trouble hearing the JL Audio 6 1/2" two ways I installed. Don't get me wrong, they sound great but just didn't put out the bass enough for me to hear. I needed 10" because the "trunk" isn't big enough to fit anything bigger. After reading the reviews I decided that these were the best for the price, and trust me, they are. I have these bad boys hooked up to my JL Audio G Series G1700 amp and the bass they kick out is amazing. With the top down and driving at 75 on the highway, I can still feel the bass. For the size and price, can not be beat. 100% recommended to anyone and everyone.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wow, just installed this today and.... WOW! This sub is awesome! Decided on this sub from all the great reviews, and they were all right on! Had a small space to work with under the back seat of my '05 F150 super crew, so i built a sealed enclosure to the JL spec's of .625 cu ft and it sounds better than i ever imagined. Powering it with a Sub Ordnance M-1500, 300w rms at 4ohms and paired up with 4 Polk DB571's and a JVC KW-HDR720 receiver. The JVC receiver n Polk's were in for about a week and sounded real clear but lacked any real bass. Installed this sub and now this system just blows me away! A previous review said this sub "hits hard, could feel the 'punch' and made his hair move", he couldn't have been more right cause i felt it too! can't wait to hear/feel this kickin' sub after it's broke in. Very happy with this sub and Crutchfield and all of the Crutchfield advisors!

Be patient...

I just bought these JL w1v2 subs two days ago and to be honest, i was a little disappointed. They didnt "hit" or "punch" the way i was looking for. I have two of these 10's in a custom made box fit to spec in a 2008 Mazda 3 Sedan being powered by 400 watts @ 2ohms ( I know, a little underpowered considering the RMS rating for one sub is 300watts, but according to JL's recommended power chart, they're perfect) after a little tuning on the amp and head unit AND after breaking in....WOW these things hit so hard! they'll give you that "punch" feeling in your chest and when I play dubstep, my hair moves! 100% recommend if you want tight, accurate, crisp, (and the occasional) hair moving bass, dont hesitate, buy these!! they hit all the frequencies perfectly!!!

Great Subs for any vehicle!

Written By BrendanG, Middleboro, MA on Friday, February 18, 2011

Well, where do I start? I've owned two of these subwoofers for 4 months, and
WOW! I put them in my 1998 Ford Ranger Extended Cab, and I put them in a box
that took up the entire back seat area! I gave them probably more room than
needed but they hit Hard and Tight!

Some friends came over with their systems, and I can tell that mine could hit
notes much harder and crisper than theirs by quite a bit. Also for long
sustained notes, this baby does just fine.

I listen often to "popular" music which is generally hip-hop to dance, and these
subs are just great!

Although the subs are great, you need something powering these bad boys. I used
an Infinity Reference 600W x2ohm Mono amplifier [2 subs in series, 2ohms, so
600W =)] and these things never need more power. In fact I often find myself
turning down the gain on my head unit as these things go above my door
speakers(65watt infinitys!)

Entry-Mid Range Subwoofer, A+
Works great in small places, trucks, trunks, etc.

You will not be disappointed.

all the reviews to this sub are so true. i read them before i ordered 2 of these and i didnt expect them to be as powerful as people said they were. but i was wrong. i own a 2000 chevy silverado extended cab and they shook the whole truck. my neighbors were calling me asking if they can come over and check them out.

After about a 2 week break in period these subs are extremely crisp and acurate for any type of music! i have 2 of them under the back seat in my 09 silverado, in a sealed box spec'ed for .62 per sub and a RF T500/2 amp these things will def do what you want and more! people are always askin what kind of 12s i have and are really impressed when i let em know they are 10s!

JL audio amp, these are amazing very tight and crisp notes or change the settings and
get window shaking teeth rattling bass. My son is ready to scrap his KIcker CompVR for
one 10" in his truck. I would recommend them for the anyone

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

got this to replace an old w0-2 that i had in my jeep ... its amazing what the newer lower end subs sound like compared to older ones--especially a 4-ohm vs a 2-ohm... definitely a big sound difference in precision and resonance. i have a rockford p300 pushing this guy at 150w/4ohms and it sounds great for the wide variety of music that i listen to--reggae to indie rock... im not interested in having tons of bass so that other people at the intersection can listen to my music and rattling license plate too so it's perfect.

I absolutely love this sub. I just installed it today and WOW! The bass is very tight and accurate without going overboard. If you put some power to it, you will be very, very excited.

I'm running a Clarion CZ209, Orion 300W amp, and this sub with a Crutchfield box. At half power it does wonders...

Heart pounding subs

Written By Taylor, North Pole, Alaska on Thursday, September 24, 2009

JL is top of the line, if you want sound quality, JL Audio is the way to go. From the basic W1's to the breath taking W7, JL is good in sound quality as well as clean, crisp bass.

I go to North Pole High in Alaska, People hear me comming from a block away because of JL Audio Subs!... I had limited space to put a componet subwoofer in my truck because of the back seat. I ended up buying two 10W1v2-4 Ohm speakers, hooking it up to the Rockford Fosgate P-400-4 bridged with a .626 Cubic feet wedge box, and a 1.2 Farad Capasitor.

I have them running 100 Hrtz and below so it hits the low frequency bass. I would definately reccomend these subs to anyone who is going for great sount quality as well as heart pounding bass.

Great Subwoofers for Price and Size

Written By Crutchfield, Slidell, LA on Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was really limited as to what size subwoofers I could fit under my back seat in
my 2008 Nissan Frontier CC which is one of the reasons why I choose these
subwoofers. I am very happy with my choice because they are very clean
sounding and what else can I say JL makes an awesome affordable, clean
subwoofer. I have two of these subs hooked up to a JL G1700 amp giving a total
of 700 watts output perfect for these two sub hooked up in parallel. I am very
happy with my purchase and I don't think that any other one for this price would
sound nearly as good as the JL's that I purchased.

JL knows bass

Written By Eric, Richmond, VA on Monday, May 18, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to upgrade the sound system in my 2008 Ford Explorer. I like good clean bass that is loud inside of my vehicle, but not outside of it. I bought 1 of these and powered it with an Apline MRP-M500 amp 300x1. When I first heard it, I wasn't very impressed. The bass was quiet and didnt hit very hard at all. After about 3 days of breaking in, it was like an entirely different sub. The bass was incredible! From rap to rock, it was exactly what I was looking for. So be sure not to get discouraged after install. Once it breaks in, you'll realize you made the right choice.

decent sub

Written By Phillip, knoxville tn on Saturday, January 10, 2009

this is a decent sub, being a jl it has smooth bass and blends well with all kinds of music. its not window shaking bass but being just a w1 i was pretty impressed with it (considering the price). If you just want bass that sounds smooth with music this sub is for you, if you want the block to hear you coming a mile away just go with the w6 or w7 but for the price this sub is great.

kick arse subwoofer set-up

Written By JohnG, Friendswood, Tx on Sunday, December 28, 2008

I wanted a good clear bass setup for my 08 Crew Cab Silverado and I found it. I listened to many friends sub setups, most were too boomy or muddy (or way too much thump). A friend has a setup I like (200w-rms/4ohm) with a single JL 10W1V2.4, THAT SYSTEM is just what I wanted. I installed a 250w-rms (JL Audio)amp with one of these in a down firing
box, she rocks!! After 2 days of break-in, it sounds awesome. Had to turn down the bass a little, it just rocks. From country to rock, this thing is great. It is not the window shaking bass, just clean, quick, pure bass. I thought about going with 2 of these, would be too much bass for me. For a big room home theatre system, nah (for this I want 1000+ RMS &12's). For a truck cab, she's just right (for my taste). And again, I have the bass cut way back. Now I have bass for me, not bass that offends those outside my vehicle... Installed 4 Kappa 60.9CS- 6.5", JL amp w/300rms watts also to round it out. A great set-up for my truck

Excellent Subs.

Written By Josh, Palmdale, Ca on Thursday, December 11, 2008

i have two of these behind the back seat of my '06 silverado crewcab powered by an 800x2 amp running bridged. these subs hit so hard that my deck's eq is set to -12 bass and -7 subwoofer. these little suckers can hang with most 12"s i highly recommend JL for any sub setup..

JL Audio 10W1v2-4

Written By Williams, Louisiana on Wednesday, October 15, 2008

This is one of the best subs I have ever owned. Its not made for competition bass, but it is made for those who just want good quality bass. I drive a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica and have the stock Ifinity door speakers and CD player. I have one 10W1v2-4 in a ported truck box with a Bazooka 300 watt rms, mono block class D amp and my friends think I have two 12s. Everyone is like, "that's one 10"? I love it. All in all, I got everything I payed for and a little more.

J.L. Audio Rocks

Written By jdm76, Texas on Tuesday, August 19, 2008

I have a set of these that are close to 10 years old. Of course there has been some changes since mine was made but with J.L. Audio you could only assume they were for the better. I've had mine in a ported truck box with a MTX 280 bridged running them since they were new and they have never missed a beat. Great Speakers with a lot of punch from Country to Hip Hop they would do what I asked them.

Written By Preston, Amherst, NH on Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Great subs overall. I have 2 in a PowerWedge in the trunk of my Suzuki Verona, and even through that they're still very loud. The only down side is the quality of the bass. Sometimes, I feel like they're loud, but they're just pushing out noise, not quality, clear bass like I'm looking for. Overall great subs, great for the price, but the price goes with the clarity.

very good

Enclosure Compatibility

Woofer: JL Audio W1v2 subwoofer features an injection-molded, metallic-finish polypropylene cone woofer with an embossed metallic JL Audio logo with a butyl rubber surround for added durability, woofer excursion and bass response.

Surround Stress Relief: By creating a radius feature on the edge of the cone, stress is relieved from the surround material at  maximum forward excursion, resulting in longer life and more consistent surround behavior

Interlocking Cone & Dust Cap: The W1v2's utilize a dust cap that is not just glued, but also interlocks with features molded into the cone body for a tight snap-fit. This creates a more rigid cone assembly and a more reliable dust cap attachment.

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W1v2 motors remain linear in motor force over a very long range of excursion, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is vastly reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.

Vented Reinforcement Collar: The Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC) is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability.

  • Stress Relief: By reinforcing the critical junction between the cone, voice coil and spider, the VRC greatly reduces failures due to glue breakdown or material weakness. It does this by greatly increasing adhesive contact area and providing stress relief to the spider material at excursion extremes
  • Air Flow: The VRC also features slots that facilitate air flow directly onto the voice coil windings. This reduces thermal compression effects and enhances reliability

Insert Molded Suspension/Coil/Terminal Sub-Assembly: The W1v2 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly which is assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. This type of assembly ensures precise lead wire length, lead wire entry and exit angles; and coil to spider perpendicularity.

Elevated Frame Cooling System: The elevated frame design of the W1v2 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Customizable Trim Ring: The woofer comes with a removable ring made of black ABS plastic which can be painted to match the installation theme and create a personalized look. You can purchase optional grille mesh inserts which are specifically designed to fit into the inner diameter of the trim ring.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box size recommended by JL Audio is 0.625 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 16.5" W x 13.5" H x 7.75" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.)

Recommended Ported Box Volume: The ported box size recommended by JL Audio is 1.00 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 18" W x 13.25" H x 13.5" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) A slot port is recommended with the following dimensions:

  • Slot Width =1.0"
  • Slot Height = 11.75"
  • Slot Length = 29.0" (a right angled port with a 13.75" extension)
