The affordable W1v3 subwoofer incorporates patented features developed by JL Audio for their legendary W7 subs. Special venting keeps the W1v3 sub running cool for trouble-free performance, while extensive research in cone bonding and motor assembly construction keeps its cone movement linear for precise, dependable output. The cone interlocks with the dust cap for superior rigidity, and a sophisticated suspension system keeps internal parts aligned properly when you're jamming hard.
These subs look as good as they sound.
The low-profile 10W1v3-4 10" subwoofer works best in compact enclosures, so you can put quality bass in smaller and hard-to-fit vehicles. It features a polypropylene cone with an embossed JL Audio logo for a look that stands out as much as the sound. The removable, customizable trim ring lets you put a personal touch on your system, and makes optional grille installation a snap. This punchy W1v3 sub works well with moderate power, delivering impressive performance without costing a fortune.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 225 and 450 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.
Great product. I originally owned the v2 which latest nearly 8 years and always played at max volume. The latest version is of the same build quality and sounds slightly better.
Pros: Build quality and sound quality. Top notch
These subs sound great! I replaced a pair of crossfire idb3 10's with these subs. Can tell a big difference in clarity and power. They have really clear deep bass. I have a regular cab truck so they fit easily in a truck box behind the seat. I'm pushing them with a JL audio XD600/1V2 amp. Perfect combination if you ask me.
Pros: Fits in a truck box behind the seat. Really good subs for the money!
Cons: None that I have found so far.
just innstalled two 10'' subs in a sealed b ox .69 cf installed right in between the z bar in the rear of my 07 350z used pdrm 65 alpine amp 650 watts of power, the jls sound great ffantastic listen first beforeyou buy if possible couldnt be happier
Pros: the lowest lows clear and crisp
Bought one of these to replace factory Bose sub in my car. It sounds nice if you listen to a lot of talk radio. I added a separate amp to drive this(300 rms) onto factory system. Put it in, with a good chunk of trimming and fab work for a box(.65 ft3) sealed in to stock location. It is about 20% louder than stock before it gets sloppy. I have an old cheap sub that sounds just about as good. Wanted to keep trunk space, but my alpine type R crushes this thing. I personally was dissappointed with this sub. The price I paid for it made it even worse. Live and learn I guess. Listen before you buy.....internet reviews are sketchy.
I originally had the JL 10w1v2-4 for 6 years and it was great. I ended up giving to my sister for her birthday for her car. I wanted something similar so I called in and the customer service rep suggested the v3 of same sub. It was shipped and I received it the next day. Installation was quick and easy. The sound is amazing. Sound is crisper, the bass hits lower and deeper. Overall the sound quality is better and my friends are jealous. Value was good and the whole buying experience was amazing.
Pros: Crisper sound, deeper bass, sub seems to hit harder.
Have just bought two of these and have always been a JL audio fan. I received them today, and was very disappointed in how they were shipped. The box that Crutchfield shipped it in was very flemsy and had the speaker boxes falling out of the bottom almost, and half the Crutchfield tape half already torn apart on top. Of course that could be ups fault with shipping, I can understand some of that, but upon opening into the individual sub boxes, I find that the inside of one had the speaker had been pushed down, but not enough to damage the speaker and thankful for that. And in the other one, out of all things, there was PINESTRAW inside it. Not a lot, but enough to make you wonder where these are being stored. How does that happen? The speakers themselves luckily look ok, and if they are the JL audio speakers I have had in the past then I'll be happy with em. They do look and sound great! But I will definitely think twice, before ordering again.
Pros: Great speakers The brand to have!
Cons: Very disappointed in how they were shipped.
Put two of these in a sealed box for my f250 from supercrew sound .5 cu ft per sub paired with a jl 600 watt mono amp Let me tell you these things hit way harder than I expected to bad they are hiding behind my back seat love to watch Em flex am very pleased with the results
Good for svc
Pros: Low height
Cons: Not dvc
These speakers replaced 11 year old speakers that were in the 02 S10 Ext.Cab stealthbox. Using a JL 500w amp they hit harder and are cleaner than the older series.
Pros: Great sound quality, hard hitting! If they are anything like the old ones, looking forward to many many years of use!
Cons: Had to "remove" some of the rubber from the mounting surround, they don't fit into the stealthbox if you leave the rubber. However, once the rubber was "moved" they fit perfect!
I have 2 of these bad subs in my f150 under the back seat in rhino lined sealed box being pushed by my MTX audio thunder 1000.1 amp! I was amazed on the amount of bass these subs put out! Also no matter how loud I crank it, the quality isn't distorted. If you want some bad subs with limited amount of space, these are them!
Pros: Compact, Loud, Quality, Reasonable Price! No reason not to get them!
Cons: None at all!

Woofer: The JL Audio W1v3-4 subwoofer features an injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone with an embossed metallic JL Audio logo and a rubber surround for added durability, woofer excursion and bass response.
Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W1v3-4 motors remain linear over a long excursion range, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.
Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.
Vented Reinforcement Collar: The Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC) is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability:
Insert Molded Suspension/Coil/Terminal Sub-Assembly: The W1v3-4 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly, assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. This type of assembly ensures precise lead wire length, lead wire entry and exit angles, and coil/spider alignment.
Elevated Frame Cooling System: The elevated frame design of the W1v3-4 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
Customizable Trim Ring: The woofer comes with a removable ring made of black ABS plastic which can be painted to match the installation theme and create a personalized look. You can purchase an optional grille mesh insert specifically designed to fit into the inner diameter of the trim ring (item number 136SGR1031, sold separately).
Sealed Enclosure: JL Audio recommends an optimum sealed enclosure volume for the 10W1v3-4 of 0.587 ft³ (0.55 ft³ net, plus the sub's 0.037 ft³ displacement), resulting in a -3dB point of 43.1 Hz.
Ported Enclosure: JL Audio recommends an optimum ported enclosure volume for the 10W1v3-2 of 0.937 ft³ (0.9 ft³ net, plus the sub's 0.037 ft³ displacement). The recommended slot port is 1-1/8" (wide) x 10" (tall) x 29-3/4" (long), resulting in a tuning frequency of 32.17 Hz and a -3dB point of 31.92 Hz.
At Crutchfield, you'll get detailed, accurate information that's hard to find elsewhere. That's because we have our own in-house Product Research team. They verify what’s in the box, check the owner's manual, and record dimensions, features and specs. We stay on top of new products and technologies to help people make informed choices.
The best box depends on what kind of bass your looking for. If you want SPL then go ported, otherwise go sealed box. I prefer custom built sealed boxes for any subs if you know what your doing and know how to get the sound and feel you want. Go off the factory specs especially if your going ported. Sealed is awesome at .592 cubic inches. That's a litl larger than factory specs @ .587ci. Never been a fan of band pass boxes. Good luck [ MICHAEL Sep 24, 2015 ]
I had a local guy build a custom box for my jeep it was Dow fired with no vent hole and works great. [ JAMES Sep 14, 2015 ]
It all depends on your vehicle. In my opinion, if you have a full size pickup I would get dual downfire for under your seat. If you are in a car where your subs will be in your trunk, I would go with a ported box with 2 of these subs. I have 2 of these under the back seat of my truck in the downforce position and I'm more than satisfied. I promise they are worth the money! P.S. They slump harder than most of my buddies systems (and they have 12s by other brands). [ William Sep 14, 2015 ]
I would use a compact box with no ports. I have a Stealth box in my truck. I bought this sub to replace the blown sub that came with the Stealth box [ Milton Lee Sep 13, 2015 ]
I built my own box using specifications provided on JL's web site. You will always get the best performance that way. They have dimensions fir sealed and ported enclosures. [ Anthony John Sep 13, 2015 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy May 31, 2015 ] Staff
The amp is rated 600wattsx1 @ 2ohms or 400x1@4ohms, the sub's are rated @ 300rms. Perfect power match if your two 4ohm sub's are wired PARALLEL to 2ohms. Better to over power speakers than to under power them FYI. [ MICHAEL Mar 25, 2015 ]
YEs you canI'm running an infinity 600/1 to mine at 2 ohms. Crutchfield sold me my setup sounds good too..hits hard in the right box.. [ KEVIN Mar 25, 2015 ]
I have two of these in a sealed enclosure with the xd 600/1v2 it's a perfect match you'll be pleased with your setup [ BRANDON Mar 25, 2015 ]
I have 2 subs wired in series with a 15 year old Precision Power 240 watt amp and they sound great. I also like Pioneer brand equipment. Any good manufacturer in the 250-300 watt range should be fine. Hope this helps. [ ADAM Mar 21, 2014 ]
We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. [ Jeff Mar 20, 2014 ] Staff
That amplifier would only provide 180 watts of power to this subwoofer. We typically recommend that you provide a subwoofer with 70% (or more) of the RMS power rating. The 2-ohm version of this subwoofer would actually be a better match. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_13692080/JL-Audio-10W1v3-2.html [ Jeff Jan 13, 2014 ] Staff
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Jeff Dec 21, 2013 ] Staff
