Features

Woofer: The JL Audio W1v3-4 subwoofer features an injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone with an embossed metallic JL Audio logo and a rubber surround for added durability, woofer excursion and bass response.

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W1v3-4 motors remain linear over a long excursion range, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.

Vented Reinforcement Collar: The Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC) is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability:

  • Stress Relief: By reinforcing the critical junction between the cone, voice coil and spider, the VRC greatly reduces failures due to glue breakdown or material weakness. It does this by increasing adhesive contact area and providing stress relief to the spider material at excursion extremes.
  • Air Flow: The VRC also features slots that facilitate air flow directly onto the voice coil windings, thus reducing thermal compression effects and enhancing reliability.

Insert Molded Suspension/Coil/Terminal Sub-Assembly: The W1v3-4 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly, assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. This type of assembly ensures precise lead wire length, lead wire entry and exit angles, and coil/spider alignment.

Elevated Frame Cooling System: The elevated frame design of the W1v3-4 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Customizable Trim Ring: The woofer comes with a removable ring made of black ABS plastic which can be painted to match the installation theme and create a personalized look. You can purchase an optional grille mesh insert specifically designed to fit into the inner diameter of the trim ring (item number 136SGR1031, sold separately).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Enclosure: JL Audio recommends an optimum sealed enclosure volume for the 10W1v3-4 of 0.587 ft³ (0.55 ft³ net, plus the sub's 0.037 ft³ displacement), resulting in a -3dB point of 43.1 Hz.

Ported Enclosure: JL Audio recommends an optimum ported enclosure volume for the 10W1v3-2 of 0.937 ft³ (0.9 ft³ net, plus the sub's 0.037 ft³ displacement). The recommended slot port is 1-1/8" (wide) x 10" (tall) x 29-3/4" (long), resulting in a tuning frequency of 32.17 Hz and a -3dB point of 31.92 Hz.

Customer Q&A

10 questions already asked

Q
Is a .90 cubic ft sealed under seat box a good pair with this sub?
arturo  Mar 27, 2024
1 answer
A
Maximum sealed box volume for the JL Audio 10W1v3-4 is .69 cubic feet, Chris. For the best sonic performance, you may need to slightly reduce the size of your box. If the .90 cubic feet measurement is taken of your box without the subwoofer installed (which will take up some airspace) you may already be pretty close to the maximum volume!

Q
Can I use this 4 ohm version with the jd250/1 amp?
arturo  Mar 19, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Chris. Thank you for your question. Sure, but the JD 250/1 will only put out 150 watts at 4 ohms. Still in range, but your sub will sound and perform better with 300 watts.

Q
Are these single or dual voice coil?
karson  Jul 05, 2016

Thanks for your question. This product is a Single voice coil. You'll find this information on the product webpage "Details" tab under "Features and Specs". Hope that helps.

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
Whats the best box for this woofer?
daniel  Sep 12, 2015

A
The best box depends on what kind of bass your looking for. If you want SPL then go ported, otherwise go sealed box. I prefer custom built sealed boxes for any subs if you know what your doing and know how to get the sound and feel you want. Go off the factory specs especially if your going ported. Sealed is awesome at .592 cubic inches. That's a litl larger than factory specs @ .587ci. Never been a fan of band pass boxes. Good luck

I had a local guy build a custom box for my jeep it was Dow fired with no vent hole and works great.

It all depends on your vehicle. In my opinion, if you have a full size pickup I would get dual downfire for under your seat. If you are in a car where your subs will be in your trunk, I would go with a ported box with 2 of these subs. I have 2 of these under the back seat of my truck in the downforce position and I'm more than satisfied. I promise they are worth the money! P.S. They slump harder than most of my buddies systems (and they have 12s by other brands).

I would use a compact box with no ports. I have a Stealth box in my truck. I bought this sub to replace the blown sub that came with the Stealth box
milton lee  Sep 13, 2015
A
I built my own box using specifications provided on JL's web site. You will always get the best performance that way. They have dimensions fir sealed and ported enclosures.

Q
Can I use a jl audio XD 600/1v2 amp with 2 of these subs in a ported enclosure or is it too much power?
bobby  Mar 25, 2015
3 answers
A
The amp is rated 600wattsx1 @ 2ohms or 400x1@4ohms, the sub's are rated @ 300rms. Perfect power match if your two 4ohm sub's are wired PARALLEL to 2ohms. Better to over power speakers than to under power them FYI.

YEs you canI'm running an infinity 600/1 to mine at 2 ohms. Crutchfield sold me my setup sounds good too..hits hard in the right box..

What is a good amp to use with two of these subs?

I have 2 subs wired in series with a 15 year old Precision Power 240 watt amp and they sound great. I also like Pioneer brand equipment. Any good manufacturer in the 250-300 watt range should be fine. Hope this helps.

Q
Is the jl adio m700/5 amp have adequate power for this sub?
matt  Jan 12, 2014
1 answer
A
That amplifier would only provide 180 watts of power to this subwoofer. We typically recommend that you provide a subwoofer with 70% (or more) of the RMS power rating. The 2-ohm version of this subwoofer would actually be a better match. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_13692080/JL-Audio-10W1v3-2.html

Q
is this speaker a direct replacement for the Mark Levinson subwoof that comes stock in a 2001 Lexus gs430?
fred  Dec 21, 2013
1 answer
A
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.
