Built for hard-hitting, long-lasting performance

JL Audio builds their hard-hitting WX Series subs for the long haul. Patented cooling and construction technologies allow these subs to pump out accurate, lifelike bass, while standing up to the inevitable abuse that every sub will see. Plus, JL Audio designs the sub's inner works to deliver a one-two punch of extended cone excursion and precise response.

Ideal when space is tight

The 10WXv2 works great in both sealed and ported enclosures, utilizing a polypropylene cone with a foam surround for powerful, reliable bass reproduction. The rear gasket provides improved sealing in your enclosure, while the heavy-duty 4-ohm voice coil resists breakdown under extreme conditions. The customizable trim ring lets you add a personalized look to your setup.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 150 and 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

What can I say, they're JL's. Best speaker on the market as far as I'm concerned.

Put one of these in my 79 GMC pick up powered by a 120w rms Clarion 2way amp bridged with a Kenwood deck and 4 Clarion 6X9s. Sounds like a concert in my cab with any type of music I play.

Pros: looks good, sounds good for a truck cab

Cons: none for my application. If your trying to outfit a car go to the next level up with a little more power.

I'm running a JL JX250/1 through this subwoofer, with a Pioneer DEH-80PRS head unit. The bass stage is placed in the trunk of my mid-sized sedan. It's a fairly low-power setup, but it gives me exactly what I want. I get some deep bass extension on classical recordings, and I can tune in some rumble for rock & electronic tracks. I can even make my mirrors shake a little without disturbing other drivers on the road.

I have dug deep into the Pioneer head's EQ, crossover, and time alignment settings to get a solid & balanced bass tone. This is not really a high-fidelity subwoofer, but it can be made to sound great with some meticulous sound shaping. Since I have so much tone control with my head unit, my bass needs are covered. My next step is to get some higher-fidelity midrange & treble and switch the head unit to complete active tone control. I am very satisfied with my JL bass stage.

Pros: Low power sub & amp mix well with the stock speakers, which are run from the head unit's internal amp.

Cons: Some enthusiasts may prefer more SPL, while others may need robust processing to maxize SQ. (I prefer SQ, and I get it all with this setup.)

Best economy sub ever!

I am a fan of this sub! I have had budget subs in the past and they have sounded terrible in the end, waste of money. I bought this sub and put it in a custom box for under the rear seat of my Dodge Ram, and let me tell you, it sounds fantastic! No distortion whatsoever. Now mind you, I am an 80s and Classic Rock kind of guy, not into the rap scene, so if that type of bass is your style, I can't guide you that direction. However, if you are a Boston, Chicago, etc. etc. this sub sounds fantastic. I have the infinity sound system that came standard, but a JVC HU, and it sounds great! I may not even upgrade anything else for a while. I bought the scratch and dent version, and it looked brand spanking new, minus any sort of paperwork that may normally come with it.. Other than that, it appeared flawless.

Pros: Price, coolness factor, amazing sound!

Cons: Nothing I can find...

Great sub with reduced mounting depth

This was my first JL sub. I've always used MTX and Pioneer (when mounting depth is really restricted). I'm using it in a motorhome with a 300w Fosgate amp. I like the sub. Good clean response. It can get a little "boomy" but my amp has a crossover adjustment. It's very stable at higher volumes (where a Pioneer would get floopy and distorted). I like 10" subs because I like a nice, tight bass. The JL works great for this.

Pros: Reduced mounting depth w/o the loss of a great high powered sub. Very stable at high volume, very usable at low volume/soft music. Nice top mount edge. Heavy duty frame but not built for tanks.

Cons: Doesn't come with a grill. Top mount only and does stick up about 1". With the grill is almost 2".

I put these in a dual downfire box .75 volume on each side. They are amazing! I upgraded from jbl 10s. I wanted to hit the deep bass that hip hop has and the jbl's couldn't do it. But these can. I had to lift the box 3/4 of a inch off the ground so the subs wouldn't hit. That's makes it a lot louder so the sound can escape. I would recommend everyone with downfire to do that.

Pros: Sounds good, looks good, hits deep, not a bad price.

Cons: Doesn't sound as good as my jbl's but still sound better than everyone else I've heard.

I recently purchased this sub as a replacement to replace my old JL Audio 10W0-4 that was 14 years old. It had finally failed due to age and some moisture issues from a leaky back window. Bought this as a Scratch-n-Dent, except for a opened box, it's perfect. I reinstalled it in a Stealth box, sealed, downward firing enclosure with batting. Much beefier than the original as I now needed longer screws. You don't see it so there really is no "Coolness Factor" build Quality appears good. The only downside is my original JL Sub was made in the U.S.A. and the new one of course is now made in China. Either my old sub was failing much earlier than I realized or the new one is more advanced. This sub hits hard! Very very impressed.

Pros: Sounds better than old JL sub it replaced.

Cons: Made in China now.

Great replacement

I was adding a small sub and amp to the factory BOSE system in my 2008 Trailblazer SS. I have the sub mounted in a .77 cu ft sealed box with a light layer of poly fill. Powered by an Alpine MRV-M250 (150 x 1 into 4 ohm) it has just the right amount of low end to compliment the factory system. Thea amp is installed in the storage compartment in the right rear of the truck which made it easy to tie into the factory amp for low level signal.

Pros: Price, Performance

Cons: Not a competition quality sub, but works great for what it is intended for.

Still making adjustments, but it shakes the rear-view mirror even at moderate listening levels. Kind of disappears at low volumes. Would have liked a little more resolution but overall quite pleased with it.

These JL Audio subs get LOUD! I have mine in a custom built vented box at 1.92 cu.ft. behind the rear seat in a 98' GMC 1500, powered by an Alpine MRX-M50 wired @ 2 ohms and these things pound! Very happy with these subs, there are some out there that have crisper sound but for the money you can't beat these.

Pros: Loud for the money!

Cons: Lose a little sound quality but these are alot cheaper than most subs

I don't have much experience with subwoofers, and this JL sub was the first one I've ever installed in my own vehicle. That said, it works really well. I'm just running an Alpine MRP-F250 4channel amp, with channels 3 and 4 bridged to the sub. Channels 1 and 2 power the door speakers. The sub is in a S/O Bass Bunker. After playing a lot of different music through it and getting it fine tuned, I feel like it sounds great. Nice tight punch, accurate tones. Even turned up loud though, you can barely tell there's a sub in the truck from 15 feet away. The sub itself is a lightweight....magnet is pretty small. But hey, less weight to haul around in the car all the time. This is in a 2001 Toyota 4Runner.

For comparison, my sister has an Infinity 1062w in her 4runner, powered by a Alpine MRV-F353. Our setups are very similar, except she has the better amp and the Infinity sub....and her's definitely sounds better. The overall sound quality from that infinity sub is better, and it gets WAY louder without losing quality. If you've got the amp for it, I'd get the Infinity over this JL everyday. Otherwise for low power applications, this JL is solid.

Pros: -Affordable -Lightweight -Good for low power application

Product Research

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is a JL Audio proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, the woofer's motor remains linear in motor force over a long excursion range, and maintains a stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the 10WXv2 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Rear Gasket: The woofer has an integrated foam rear gasket which provides an optimal seal when installing into the enclosure.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: JL Audio recommends a 0.625 cubic foot sealed box. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 17-1/4" W x 11" H x 9" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.)

Ported Box Volume: JL Audio recommends a 1.0 cubic foot ported box. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a ported box with external dimensions of 22" W x 12" H x 10-1/2" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) A single 3" diameter x 13-1/2" long port is recommended, resulting in a tuning frequency of 35 Hz.
