Q
JL Audio RD900/5 Is ok with this sub? Or is better with JL Audio CS113TG-TW5v2? Thanks in advance.
luis  Oct 27, 2023
1 answer
A
JL Audio tends to recommend that we do not provide their subwoofers with power than the RMS power rating. It is likely that the CS112LG-TW3 and RD900/5 would pair together nicely, but the CS113TG-TW5v2 would be a safer choice in terms of warranty.

Q
Is this unit available in a w6?
dustin  Sep 16, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Dustin. Thank you for your question. JL Audio does not make a shallow version of the W6 at the moment. You can get their W6 already in a box, but it will be deeper enclosure. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_13693315/JL-Audio-HO112-W6v3.html?tp=112

Is the black metal mesh part of the grill removable by design? or would it take some modification? I need that extra clearance and that grill appears to stick up a good inch or more.

A
The grill just pops off
paul  Apr 22, 2022
A
it is "installed" per JL and stays on - it might be removable if you unscrew the 8 screws securing the driver in the box. This is a great unit by the way - handles tons of power, plays loud and low and takes up very little space considering the output.

Q
hi, i have a 2022 tacoma will this box fit behind the seat?
alexis  Feb 05, 2022
1 answer
A
The dimensions of the speaker are listed in the specifications. I think that you can answer this by taking a tape measurer out to your truck. You could also fold up a cardboard box to the same size and test-fit it.

Can I buy something just the slim box5wt-3? If so what is the model number and how slim is it? Thx

I'm sorry, the box is 3/8 of an inch below 7 inches, not 1/8 inch as I stated previously. Please accept this correction. Thanks!
andrew  Jul 30, 2020
A
I don't believe you can purchase the box without the driver. However the box is 6 5/8 inches thick. So an 1/8 inch below 7 inches thick. If you can afford to purchase the complete box and driver, I highly recommend it, for a thin 12 inch sub, it ROCKS! I hope this answers your question.

Q
How many watts does it truly peak like can I give it more than 400 rms without damaging the 12 inch sub?
ronnie  Mar 25, 2020

A
HI Ronnie, thank you for your question. We do not recommend exceeding the recommended RMS power rating set forth by the manufacturer. Exceeding recommend RMS power will void the manufacturers warranty.

I have 800 rms and it is working fine!
loquita  Mar 25, 2020

Without question. I'm currently at 400 RMS from a Memphis PR amplifier at a 2-ohm load. The gain can sit right in the middle, basically, and give me full volume without distortion.

Q
If I wanted to mount this in my trunk using L brackets screwed into the box, wouldn't I be introducing an air-leak (however small) to the design of the sealed box? I know many silicone products are not approved for use with speakers because the fumes can adversely affect the speaker driver its self. Thoughts?
william  Nov 18, 2017

A
Just remember the speaker itself is screwed into the box. So not a concern I have ever had about an air leak. You would not have any sound degrading from that small of a hole.
james  Nov 21, 2017
A
Hi I actually have this box and would recommend 1/4" screws or heavy duty 3M double sided tape. The box's fairly heavy and does not need much to secure it unless your are 1. off-roading 2. mounting it on its side. 3. mounting it to a non carpeted surface. I wedged mine between my amp and corner/end of my trunk in the daily driver and I drive spiritly. Another suggestion I'd recommend is to wedge the sub in with 4 L brackets; just screw into the trunk and not the actual sub.
nicholas  Nov 20, 2017
A
As long as a screw fills the hole you drilled, there is no leak.

Will the punch P1000X5 be enough to thump this sub?

THe amp is quite capable of driving this, likely well beyond your expectations. I run 4 alpine tweeters 2 kicker 6x9 2 kicker 61/2 and 2 polk audio mm8 dvc subwoofer through a audiocontrol dqdx processor, sounds awesome!
gregory  Dec 28, 2015
A
No not enough to push it had to trade it at a local stereo shop to get a amp big enough to push it.
jason  Dec 28, 2015
A
Yes, it will power it so well u will destroy the sub eventually!!! You need a 4ohm impedance sub to handle the amp
devin  Dec 28, 2015

Not sure, I've got mine hooked up to a JL jx500 and it barely pushes it.

Q
I'm planning on pairing this with an Alpine PDX-V9 5 channel amp, which has 1 channel dedicated to the subwoofer and rated at 500w RMS, I see this says it can handle up to 400w RMS, is this still a good pairing or is the extra 100w RMS too much?
randy  Oct 29, 2015
4 answers
A
I'm running this with a 5 channel amp pushing 600w at 2 ohms, and I've had nothing but perfect sound. Keep the gain on your amp down and your fine. More power is way better than too little power.
benjamin  Nov 20, 2017
A
This speaker needs its own amp trust me powerful as hell.
jason  Oct 31, 2015
A
As long as you can tune it down, you should be fine. I am running a dedicated 500W amp on my JL audio CS112LG-Tw3 and it has performed fine. One concern would be playing really low frequencies and the amp overpowering the sub, so tune accordingly.
alex  Oct 30, 2015
A
Yes this speaker will pair great with the odd amp I have this set up in my mustang , sounds great
