The affordable W1v2 subwoofer incorporates patented features developed by JL Audio for their legendary W7 subs. Special venting keeps the W1v2 sub running cool for trouble-free performance, while extensive research in cone bonding and motor assembly construction keeps its cone movement linear for precise, dependable output. The cone interlocks with the dust cap for superior rigidity, and a sophisticated suspension system keeps internal parts aligned properly.
The low-profile 12W1v2-4 12" subwoofer works best in compact enclosures, so you can put quality lows in smaller and hard-to-fit vehicles. It features a metallic-finish polypropylene cone with an embossed JL Audio logo for a look that stands out as much as the sound. The removable, customizable trim ring lets you put a personal touch on your system, and makes optional grille installation a snap. This punchy W1v2 sub works well with moderate power, delivering impressive performance without costing a fortune.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Jl makes a good quality sub for the money. This sub has performed reasonably well thus far.
First sub that I have bought in a long time and...

Ease of Use
I bought this sub because I needed to replace 2 heavily used JL W3's that I recently decided to give a shot again. They didn't hold up...at all. So I bought one of these and thought before installing it that I would eventually buy second just because. However, to my surprise, this sub actually satisfies my needs in the bass department. Not saying that i eventually will not buy another just because, but at this point there is not an itch for more bass. I think the most impressive thing that this sub brings, outside of its bass delivery, is when I pop my trunk and look to see just how far the speaker moves between bass hits. Like I said, it has been a while since buying a new sub, but I do not remember ever seeing a subwoofer flex like this...it is simply crazy and extremely impressive.
Pros: Great sound, relatively cheap price.
Cons: Haven't found one yet.
Ease of Use
These are great subs. They hit extremely hard when you have a correct box and amp. I have had my v2's for 3 years now and they still hit hard and clean. I have beat a couple people who have 15's and have never lost to 12s. Excellent starter subs to get a good balance of bass and music. I would recommend to everyone i know. Go for it get them!!!
They're better than u expect
Ease of Use
I have three of these in a JL box and they can getdown.. At 1st i was a little skeptical when i purchased them but once i heard them on that Kicker SX650.1 i was amazed. I was in the waiting area at the shop and i kept hearing it not knowing the great sound i was hearing was actually coming from my car. I kept saying, "I hope my system sounds like that" & found out it really was my system. Way to go JL 5stars.
Pros: Distortion Free and can handle just about whatever you throw at them.
JL Audio 12W1v2-4
A friend sold me this sub to replace a kicker CVR, it does not meet or exceed the kicker its an ok sub but not for the price the kicker is the same price. The sub came in a qlogic sealed box.
Pure, Clean, Smooth-NO DISTORTION
I can't think of one bad thing to say when JL Audio is mentioned. You simply get what you pay for, don't let RMS fool you. i had 4 of these totaling 600w RMS on a 1600w amp they took out systems with 3000w dedicated to their bass & road of beatin'
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
this is a great sub, it may be JL's entry level, but it will blow away other company's mid to high level subs. compared this "sound-wise" to a guy's, 2- 12" subs, and it blew them away.... hooked it up to the RF P500-1 amp (320rmsx1 at 4-ohm or 500rmsx1 at 2-ohm), great pairing. haven't heard this sub in a ported box, but the sealed box, made to JL's specs. sound supreb. in my opinion, JL is the best quality gear out there. you'll NEVER be disappointed!.........
Pure Sound Quality
Ive experienced various brands of subs over the years. You really do get what you pay for. This sub can handle far more than its spec's indicate. JL under-rates them and their amps. I have this and a W3v3 which handles more power and they both sound identical. Connected this in my Civic to a RF punch 600.1 amp and its handled all that power for almost a year now.
i tried it in my bandpass, ported and sealed and i prefer it in the sealed box. Not for bandpass which sounds horrid with most any sub anyway. use 1.25 sealed and definitly put about 1 lb of poly fill in it loosely and will smooth the bass and distort less. there are other subs that sound as good a bit cheaper but typically dont last as long under heavy wattage.
Quality Entry-Level Subs
Don't underestimate JL's conservative ratings ("150 Watts Optimal"), as
W1's easily compete with subwoofers that claim power ratings of "1200
Watts Maximum". Good clean sound, even without much airspace. This
combines with thin mounting depth to make them an excellent choice for
cramped truck boxes. All in all one of the best entry-level subwoofers you
can buy in my opinion. Match a pair of 12W1's to a JL 250/1 amplifier and
you won't be disappointed. The only downside would be the pricetag,
which tends to be a little higher than other subwoofers in the same bracket.

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W1v2 motors remain linear in motor force over a very long range of excursion, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is vastly reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.
Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.
Interlocking Cone and Dust Cap: In conventional designs, the dust cap is simply glued onto the cone to cover the coil/gap area and create a seal between the enclosure and the listening environment. The W1v2 utilizes a dust cap that is not just glued, but also interlocks with features molded into the cone body for a tight snap-fit. This creates a more rigid cone assembly and a more reliable dust cap attachment.
Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC): The Vented Reinforcement Collar is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability. By reinforcing the critical junction between the cone, voice coil and spider, the VRC greatly reduces failures due to glue breakdown or material weaknesses. It does this by greatly increasing adhesive contact area and providing stress relief to the spider material at excursion extremes. the VRC also feature slots that facilitate air flow directly onto the voice coil windings to reduce thermal compression effects and enhances reliability.
Spider/Lead Wire Assembly: The W1v2 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly which is assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. The spider is insert-molded into a composite carrier tray which also incorporates the terminal assembly and lead wire strain relief features for enhanced reliability and optimal alignment of parts. The flying lead wires are carefully controlled and strain-relieved without resorting to woven-in lead wires, which can degrade spider performance.
Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the W6v2 delivers high-velocity air flow through slots directly above the top plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
Surround Stress Relief: By creating a radiused feature on the edge of the cone, stress is relieved from the surround material at maximum forward excursion, resulting in longer life and more consistent surround behavior.
Customizable Trim Ring: The woofer comes with a removable ring made of black ABS plastic which can be painted to match the installation theme and create a personalized look. You can purchase optional grille mesh inserts which are specifically designed to fit into the inner diameter of the trim ring.
Removable Magnet Boot: The woofer magnet has a removable protective rubber boot. The magnet diameter listed in Features & Specifications (4.721") was measured with the rubber boot removed. With the boot installed, the magnet diameter becomes 5.036".
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box size recommended by JL Audio is 1.25 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 17.5" W x 15.5" H x 11.5" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.)
Recommended Ported Box Volume: The ported box size recommended by JL Audio is 1.75 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 19.75" W x 16" H x 17" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) A slot port is recommended with the following dimensions:
- Slot Width =1.5"
- Slot Height =14.5"
- Slot Length =33.75" (a right angled port with a 14.5" extension)
