JL Audio builds their hard-hitting WXv2 Series subs for the long haul. Patented cooling and construction technologies allow these subs to pump out accurate, lifelike bass, while standing up to the inevitable abuse that every sub will see. Plus, JL Audio designs the sub's inner works to deliver a one-two punch of extended cone excursion and precise response.
The 12WXv2 12" sub works great in both sealed and ported enclosures, utilizing a polypropylene cone with a foam surround for powerful, reliable bass reproduction. The rear gasket provides improved sealing in your enclosure, while the heavy-duty 4-ohm voice coil resists breakdown under extreme conditions. The customizable trim ring lets you add a personalized look to your setup.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 150 and 300 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.
Was worried becuase the price was so cheap but enough bass to rock my truck paired with kenwood excelon amp
Pros: Price, sound, and shallow mounting depth
Cons: Needs lots of box vol. compared to how many amps this sub pushes
They sound good. I was expecting a little more boom but they are clear and sound great in my little enclosure.
Pros: Very easy and stable sub to work with.
Cons: Wanted a little more boom
Not sure you can get better sound for the money. I have 2 of these bridged with the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D amp and have been very impressed with the sound. I use a ported box so I get quite a bit extra thump with these guys.
Pros: Good clarity and sound Great price point
Cons: They do not make tacos.
I don't think I would ever go with another company when it comes to sub-woofers for my cars. I have had JL audio sub-woofers in my car since 2002 and I finally had to replace them in this past year. 12 plus years with no headache at all, great quality for your money. The sound quality impeccable!
Pros: Price, Sound Quality and easy installation
Great upgrade ftom the factory radio. Good sound quality.
Pros: Everything is great
Man this sub for the price is outstanding! All I got to say is if your on a budget and you wanna add some bump in the trunk, then you can't goo wrong getting this. I got one getting powered by a m1500 SO at 300watts rms at 4 ohms and it sounds better than I expected in a ported box.
Installed a pair of these subs in my buddy's truck with a Jensen Duba1450. After wiring was completed I set the levels on the amp to about half and that was enough to shake the mirrors of the cars around us.
Pros: Great sound, can be used to show off
This is a great sub for the money. I have it in a sealed enclosure powered by a Sound Ordinance 1350 amp and it sounds very good. Even though it is a lower watt sub it produces very clean powerful sound. If your looking for something that will shake your car apart this is not for you. If your looking for something that won't overpower you music with bass then this is a great choice.
Pros: Well built, very lightweight, sounds great, affordable
I have 2 of these in separate custom compartments and I couldn't be any happier. I have EDM turned up all the time and get all of the low notes I couldn't get with my 10. Accidentally hit the plastic rim doing some work in my car and it didn't even show a scratch. Low rms allowed me to use a 300.1 amp and keep my system on a small budget.
Pros: Great build quality clear lows easily handles daily use at high volume
It worked will well
Pros: It sounds good
Cons: Nothing bad
I purchased these for my son's truck and installed them after building cabinets for them. They are excellent choices and were a good value which made the purchase very positive.
Pros: Cost, quality of design and sound
Cons: None known
im very happy with this jl audio woofer, i paired it with a s/o bass bunker (ported) and it hits hard.im a family guy, so i cant spend a lot on toys, so this was a real bargain for me, thanks crutchfield for years of great products & services!!!
Pros: sounds good, looks good, well built, great price
This sub is great sub for the price. Just because the sub doesn't have a low RMS power range doesn't mean it doesn't bump. This sub hits real hard and it's loud. I have a sound ordnance M2100 amp and my system bumps for the money. The only flaw is to install the box wires to sub you need clips but they cost little to nothing at Home Depot

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is a JL Audio proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, the woofer's motor remains linear in motor force over a long excursion range, and maintains a stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.
Elevated Frame Cooling: The elevated frame design of the 12WXv2 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.
Rear Gasket: The woofer has an integrated foam rear gasket which provides an optimal seal when installing into the enclosure.
Sealed Box Volume: JL Audio recommends a 1-3/8 cubic foot sealed box. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 16" W x 19" H x 11-3/4" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.)
Ported Box Volume: JL Audio recommends a 1-3/4 cubic foot ported box. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a ported box with external dimensions of 18-1/5" W x 14-3/4" H x 16-1/2" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) A single 4" diameter x 18-3/4" long port is recommended, resulting in a tuning frequency of 30 Hz.
At Crutchfield, you'll get detailed, accurate information that's hard to find elsewhere. That's because we have our own in-house Product Research team. They verify what’s in the box, check the owner's manual, and record dimensions, features and specs. We stay on top of new products and technologies to help people make informed choices.
The basic answer to your question is yes. The port dimensions are the same for both boxes BUT your not gonna want to tune the 4th order box as low as a ported enclosure due to the response curve being broader. Also keep in mind the sealed side of the enclosure affects the tuning also. [ CHARLES Jan 20, 2016 ]

A 4th order bandpass acts like a ported enclosure but i amnot sure what speaker parameters a box design uses for a 4th order. Google it. [ Robert Jan 18, 2016 ]
