The low-profile 13W1v2-4 13.5" subwoofer works best in compact enclosures, so you can put quality lows in smaller and hard-to-fit vehicles. It features a metallic-finish polypropylene cone with an embossed JL Audio logo for a look that stands out as much as the sound. The removable, customizable trim ring lets you put a personal touch on your system, and makes optional grille installation a snap. This punchy W1v2 sub works well with moderate power, delivering impressive performance without costing a fortune.

I have one of these in a ported box. I'm running a Kenwood 8104D 300 watt amp 1000 watt RMS peak. This sub bumps hard and is so clear. I'm looking to get another one for my SUV because I like the quality of sound produced.

Excellent Sound Quality

Written by: Bongo from Boston, MA on February 22, 2011

This sub performs excellent! The 13.5" allows for an extremely low free air resonance so when placed in the correct size enclosure it sounds amazing and hits really low and deep while remaining tight and accurate. I'm running a single 13W1V2-4 in a '09 Sierra powered by a J2 500.1 JL Audio amp which is about the max wattage allowed for this sub. I run the amp for the sub at about 50% to 75% with the stock BOSE system. I built a box for the truck (since there's not much out there) and it's a little over 1 cu.ft. internal volume. I used a pound of poly-fill to make up for the 1.5 cu.ft. recommended box volume. The pressure, sound quality and depth produced by this single sub is far superior to the 2 JL W0's I had before. I listen to all types of music (mainly rap hi-hop and trance) but I'm telling you Stevie Ray Vaughn's Little Wing sounds amazing to say the least and other blues and rock artists sound phenomenal as well. Highly Recommended.

JL Audio 13W1v2-4

I got this sub and have been pretty pleased with it. Unfortunately the amp I got with it only puts out 200 rms at four ohms so i'm looking to upgrade at some point to a setup that will give me between three and four hundred watts instead. Due to the weak amp i have to crank up the gain to make it boom, but it hits pretty hard when powered right. It's said that bmw's are some of the toughest cars to get good bass out of but the jl does a good job filling my 735il.

Features

Woofer: JL Audio W1v2 subwoofer features an injection-molded, metallic-finish polypropylene cone woofer with an embossed metallic JL Audio logo with a rubber surround for added durability, woofer excursion and bass response.

Surround Stress Relief: By creating a radius feature on the edge of the cone, stress is relieved from the surround material at  maximum forward excursion, resulting in longer life and more consistent surround behavior

Interlocking Cone & Dust Cap: The W1v2's utilize a dust cap that is not just glued, but also interlocks with features molded into the cone body for a tight snap-fit. This creates a more rigid cone assembly and a more reliable dust cap attachment.

Dynamic Motor Analysis (DMA): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method aimed at improving dynamic motor behavior. As a result of DMA optimization, W1v2 motors remain linear in motor force over a very long range of excursion, and also maintain a highly stable fixed magnetic field in the gap over a wide power range. The result is vastly reduced distortion, faithfully reproduced transients, and tight, clean, articulate bass.

Floating Cone Attachment Method (FCAM): JL Audio's patented FCAM technology is an innovative method of bonding the surround/cone assembly to the voice coil/spider assembly. This assembly technique ensures proper surround geometry in the assembled speaker for better excursion control and dynamic voice coil alignment.

Vented Reinforcement Collar: The Vented Reinforcement Collar (VRC) is a composite structure that addresses two issues related to reliability.

  • Stress Relief: By reinforcing the critical junction between the cone, voice coil and spider, the VRC greatly reduces failures due to glue breakdown or material weakness. It does this by greatly increasing adhesive contact area and providing stress relief to the spider material at excursion extremes
  • Air Flow: The VRC also features slots that facilitate air flow directly onto the voice coil windings. This reduces thermal compression effects and enhances reliability

Insert Molded Suspension/Coil/Terminal Sub-Assembly: The W1v2 features a unique spider, coil and terminal subassembly which is assembled prior to installation in the speaker frame for optimum alignment and glue-joint integrity. This type of assembly ensures precise lead wire length, lead wire entry and exit angles; and coil to spider perpendicularity.

Elevated Frame Cooling System: The elevated frame design of the W1v2 delivers cool air through slots directly above the top-plate to the voice coil of the speaker. This not only enhances power handling, but also sound quality by minimizing dynamic parameter shifts and power compression.

Customizable Trim Ring: The woofer comes with a removable ring made of black ABS plastic which can be painted to match the installation theme and create a personalized look. You can purchase optional grille mesh inserts which are specifically designed to fit into the inner diameter of the trim ring.

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box size recommended by JL Audio is 1.5 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 18.5" W x 16.5" H x 12" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.)

Recommended Ported Box Volume: The ported box size recommended by JL Audio is 2.625 cu/ft. A diagram is provided in the owner's manual for a sealed box with external dimensions of 23.75" W x 17" H x 18" D, assuming 3/4" thick material. (If you are using 5/8" thick materials, you should subtract 1/4" from each dimension.) A slot port is recommended with the following dimensions:

  • Slot Width =1.5"
  • Slot Height = 15.5"
  • Slot Length = 31.5" (a right angled port with a 13.5" extension)
