These rugged speakers deliver powerful sound that'll cut through the combination of wind, water, and engine noise. The weatherproof cone is suspended in a durable synthetic rubber surround for great sound and long life, and the UV-resistant polymer basket surrounds and protects the entire structure. The internal LED lighting assembly adds style to your boat by illuminating the woofer cones with a subtle blue glow.

Features

Marine Tested: JL Audio's marine speakers are built to exceed industry standards for Salt-Fog and UV exposure. They are exposed to ultraviolet testing chambers to simulate years of sun exposure, and salt fog chambers to simulate years of exposure to salt-water environments. Corrosion and UV-resistant materials are used throughout.

LEDs: There are blue LEDs in the back of the tweeter casing, to create a glow on the woofer cone. A 12-volt power supply is needed to turn the LEDs on and each LED circuit should be fused (in-line fuse holder included).

Woofers: The MX650-CCX-SG-WLD-B speakers feature injection-molded, mica-filled polypropylene cone woofers with UV inhibitors, synthetic rubber surrounds, and precisely engineered dust cap profiles for smooth upper-end response. The woofers also use marine-grade synthetic fiber spiders with a progressive roll design to withstand high humidity.

DMA (Dynamic Motor Analysis): DMA is JL Audio's proprietary method of improving dynamic motor behavior. The DMA optimized, long-excursion design enhances output, bass extension, and power handling of the speaker.

Tweeters: The speakers feature 3/4" silk dome tweeters with a specially formulated treatment to withstand UV and salt-spray exposure. The dome tweeter uses a neodymium magnet for higher efficiency levels and is Ferrofluid-cooled and damped for improved response and power handling capabilities.

Crossover: The tweeters use 2nd order (12 dB/oct) crossovers with solid-state tweeter protection to prevent tweeter failure.

Polymer Basket and Grille: The specifically engineered polymer baskets are corrosion and UV-resistant and encapsulate the woofer's motor system to prevent corrosion.

Infinite-Baffle Operation: The speakers are designed for infinite-baffle operation and can be installed in a variety of locations, without the need for a dedicated enclosure. The woofer is optimized to operate with a large volume of air behind it (at least 2 cubic feet); operating in less space will compromise low frequency performance.

How bright are the LEDs? Will they light up the boat cockpit or just highlight the speakers?

They light up just the speakers. There is Alil wash on the surfaces in front of the speakers but they are designed for the speakers not to illuminate the whole boat

They are much brighter than just a glow in the speaker housing. They light up the floor good enough to see everything.

Depends on the number of speakers and size of the cockpit but they mostly just highlight the speakers. I have 4 on a 22ft pontoon. It is certainly more lit up than without them on at night but you won't be playing a game of cards with just that light.

The LEDs aren't bright enough to light up the immediate area, but they are plenty bright enough to put out enough glow to see them at night. Even when not listening to the stereo when cruising at night, I still turn the stereo on and turn it all the way down because I find the blue glow helpful in gently illuminating the area around the speakers.

Do these speakers with LED require any kind of power supply?

These LED speakers do require a 12 volt supply to light them up. There is also a protective fuse to install in the supply line to protect the LED lights. I would recomment installing a switch at the helm to manually turn on and off the lights.

Yes they do. 12 volts in addition to the speaker wires will need to be run. They come with fuses for each speaker.

yes of course. They require 12v power to the LED. Also you have the ability to turn the LEDs on and off.

yes. A seperate 12v wire is required. I tied into existing interior lights that way they were on the same switch. They also recommend putting a fuse on the lights.
