JL Audio's CP108LG-W3v3 MicroSub enclosed subwoofer system delivers impressive bass without needing a lot of power or taking up much space. This MicroSub handles up to 250 watts RMS, housing one 8" W3v3 subwoofer that offers impressive low end. The enclosure is designed from the ground up to get optimum performance from its driver, so you get much more than just a box with a speaker inside.
JL Audio uses state-of-the-art automated woodworking equipment to fabricate the high-quality MDF enclosure with rugged automotive carpeting, a steel-mesh grille, 5-way binding posts, and solid internal wiring. The enclosure is finished and inspected by hand at the manufacturing facility in Florida to ensure that you get the bass that you expect from JL Audio.
The specially designed, slot-ported enclosure measures just over 6-1/2 inches thick, so it'll fit just about anywhere. Its flared slot-port design cuts down on air turbulence and keeps your bass rich and clear. You'll enjoy thick low-frequency response from all of your music with this capable enclosure in your vehicle.
An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.
Well built and solid sub. Nice size and fits easily behind seats in single cab full size truck. Decent sound but not particularly low. In order to go lower you have to go bigger. Very precise and tight bass.
Pros: Very affordable and well built. Very good for price and size.
Cons: Doesn't go terribly low but has nice tight precise bass for it's size.
This is a great sub along with its "compact/ported" enclosure. I didn't believe the reviews that I was reading before I ended up buying it.Now that I have owned it,I see why everyone else spoke highly of this TINY 8" JL SUBWOOFER with the ported enclosure. At first,I was doubting it because of its size, but I was dead wrong lol.Listen folks, this little monster ROCKS hard and sounds amazing. In addition,it DOESN'T take much place and NOT heavy at all.Im glad that I had bought it and that's money well spent.
Cons: Based on my opinion a SEALED enclosure would be better and give it a DEEPER BASS.
This little guy is amazing! Sounds so much bigger than an 8" sub. Of course being in my 92 toyota regular cab pickup means its very impressive because of the small cab. But its comparable to the 2 10" kickers in a sealed box imo. I'm impressed!
The drive of having a subwoofer in my car finally overcame me. I did a little research, called and asked around, as to what I should purchase. Power was not a primary concern for me, I just wanted the added thump. I had it professionally installed and after they said I was good to go, I slipped in AC/DC cd and was not disappointed. It was not too loud not too soft, as with the little red riding hood it was just right. I was really unsure being this is my first experience with any subwoofer being in the house or car. The one thing was the placement of the box. It wasn't put in the middle, and the speaker was facing the rear, instead of towards the front. First time experience has been great.
Pros: having it professionally installed
Cons: unsure of any at this point in time
When the back seat backs are down, it sounds great. When they are closed you can't hear it for beans. The whole idea was to hide it in the trunk, but if you can't hear it, what's the point.
Pros: It's bass.
Cons: It's not strong enough.
I bought this as the wife said "no, you can't put the box with 2 10" subs in the back of the UTE". I put it in anyways as its been nearly a decade since I've had subs in a vehicle, and I had already run the power and cables for the Sound Ordnance powered 8" box. It was great having the boom back in the car! She even liked the sound, called it "fun". Alas, it was a bit much for the vehicle and kind of overwhelmed the rest of the system which has all the primary speakers running off a Pioneer head unit. After I plugged this in, running off a Precision Power 300-watt mono amp, it was tough to tell I had taken the dual 10" box out. The big difference is the musical balance was much better, the components sounded better, and obviously got all the cargo area back as I was able to hide it in the spare tire area underneath the cargo hatch. I play every type of music except country, and this little monster really kills it in all categories. And, Crutchfield had the best price, and quickest shipping!
Pros: Plays all type of music, balances out the overall tone of the system, compact size.
Cons: Power handling
Fit behind the seat of my f250 cc. Provides the fill in bass that my c5s couldn't. I'm feeding it 180 watts and it sounds exactly right for someone going after sq bass vs shaking the block.
I love this subwoofer. It breaks in really nice. It sounds like a 10 or 12inch as far as bass sound. Obviously it won't shake the neighborhood, but it will shake your mirror and reproduce all sounds accurately. I love it.
Cons: Worth the price.
Purchased this partly due to the number of reviewers who had nothing but praise for this sub. They were right.
If you want to shake the car and be heard coming down the street, then this isn't the setup for you. If you don't have the space (or don't want to give up the space) and want nice clean bass to fill out your music, then this is the unit you want.
I have a 4 way JL audio amp with the tears bridged powering this with 150 RMS watts. Could handle more power but according to sub specs is right in the sweet zone. No distortion playing louder than I would want. Sub is behind the seats on a NC Miata. Really balances out the component set up front.
Happy with this purchase and expect to enjoy for a long time to come.
Pros: Sound quality and size
Awesome sound from such a small sub and enclosure
This is a phenomenal sub for the money. This thing shakes my Honda CR-V like I'm running 10's. I'm running an Alpine 300x1 amp. Perfect power for this sub. I have also used the Alpine Type-R similar sub box in this vehicle and have to say that this one edges out the Alpine ever so slightly. Great product!
Pros: Great bass in a small package
This thing is a great way to end powerful low end to your system without sacrificing any space. Fits perfectly behind the rear seats of a Toyota Tacoma Double Cab, and fills the cabin with plenty of bass. As always, you can't beat the customer service delivered by crutchfield. If you're considering this, buy it. You won't be disappointed.
I have only had it for a week, therefore my review is only based on a few hours of use. Value: Honestly, I feel it is overpriced. If it was closer to $125 I feel it would be a good deal and not much else. Sound Quality: For an 8" it does very good. For those who say it rivals a 10" or 12" all I can say is you must have had a pretty crappy set-up as my previous cars using aforementioned sealed subs would simply put this 8" to shame. However, it does add decent bass reinforcement - just right for those either getting too old to need window and mirror rattling mayhem or as an entry level sub (just the cost of admission is quite high). Ease of use: Ummm...hook up two wires noting correct polarity and all done. Coolness factor: I could not care less about looks - it looks like a carpeted box with a sub - what more can I say. Build Quality: Time will tell if it holds up, but I am reasonably confident it should last a long time as no flaws noted when I inspected it. So....Do I like it? Yes. Is it the best ever? No - but it is the best 8" I ever heard. Will I keep it? 99.9% yes.
Pros: 1. Fits under seat in extended cab Silverado. 2. Sounds WAY better than a lower priced competitors 10" powered slim sub that was there - that thing was waste of money! 3. I am done searching for a sub for my truck!
Cons: As others have stated - expensive! Not sure where the excessive mark-up is (either JL or Crutchfield, or both), but there cannot be more than $75 total in labor, materials, research, overhead, blah blah blah. Especially when you look at the quantity of these being mass produced and sold.
I bought two of these 8" box/sub combo's for my 2010 GMC reg cab, and found that I only needed one to shake my brains out. I sold the other to my brother for his 2005 2dr Civic, and he loves it as much as I do. I'm running an Alpine INE957 Nav system with JL ZR650 high end and a JL HD600/4 amp, with the gains just above 3/4, and the little sub can take all that power with no distortion. I've also pushed the grille in a few times, and it has always protected the sub perfectly (the box is behind my passenger seat). The built in connectors are high quality and work with bare wire or banana plugs. I don't know what else you could ask for in an 8" sub. It's worth way more than I paid for it! Highly recommended!!!
Pros: Inexpensive, High quality, Very compact, Great sound
Cons: None, buy one!
The sub provided the deep, clear tone without breaking the windows and rattling the vehicle. The tone is distinct and percise. I am extremely happy with the purchase.
The sub does have great sound for the small size. I installed one sub running 200 watts RMS. It wasn't enough, although I did not give it much time to break in. I added a second and it isn't bad. The mid bass is loud, the lows are there but not as loud. The punch bass sounds good but still sounds small ( I know it's only an 8").
I bought the subs on sale so I am pleased with the purchase.
Disclaimer: I am used to having a lot of bass in my cars, 12" or larger subs. If you are adding a sub for the first time this will be plenty. Just remember if you are putting this in the trunk of a car it won't be as loud. In a truck or open cabin vehicle it will be better. They won't set off car alarms but with 2 they can definitely be heard outside of the vehicle.
I installed these in a 2014 F150 Super-crew.
Pros: Small, easy install and good for some bass.
Cons: None really, again I am used to a lot of bass so I may be unfair in some of my 4 star ratings.
I installed the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 in place of my old Sound Ordinance 8" powered sub. Man I can't believe the difference in performance! This JL Audio micro-sub rocks! Very impressed with the overall package, installed under the rear seat of my 2005 Silverado crew cab. Powered the sub with the Alpine MRV-500 amp. I would recommend this setup to anyone looking for awesome bass with limited interior space!!! Thank you Crutchfield and JL Audio.
Pros: Excellent performance for its size.
Ok i bought this product, and i installed. A jl 250/1 that later on i found out that is a 4 ohms and this speaker is a 2 ohms. So its not what i expected
Had very limited space under the rear seats of my 2013 F150 Super Crew, so bought this slim sub' as it seemed to be reasonably priced and had excellent reviews. Wow, this thing really booms. I drive it off a Sound Ordnance M-1500 and it gives bass you can feel as well as hear. Really impressed.
Pros: Impressive, deep bass from a relatively small enclosure
Amazing little sub.... Installed in my ford transit behind the rear bench seat and passengers wonder in amazement when the real lows drop. Play anything by disclosure and you'll hear where I am coming from!!
Pros: Impressive lows from a tiny little sub that can be installed pretty much anywhere
Excellent little speaker that fits behind the seat.
Pros: Sounds great and built very good
Cons: The spare tire tools screw is a little bit in the way . But the speaker still fits.
I recently purchased this JL setup because I wasn't satisfied with my shallow 10" Pioneer TS-SW2501S2 mounted in the sealed downfiring enclosure that Pioneer makes for this sub. The shallow Pioneer just couldn't reproduce the lower frequencies without some distortion. This 8" JL does much better than the 10" Pioneer. You'd probably get even better low-end with a real 10" or 12" sub with proper enclosure, but if you are low on space, or just want a simple pre-loaded setup, this thing would be hard to beat. I'm throwing 200 watts RMS at it from a Fosgate P300x1 and it sounds awesome. It will fit under the rear seat of a 2014 Tundra Double Cab, but you need to position it further up below the seat because the rear of the seat bottom has a hard support that will dent the grill when you put down the seat. I think it would be fine under the seat if you remove the grill, but I've left mine on and just position the enclosure so that the seat will go down. The enclosure is not sticking out at all from under the seat either. I'm seriously tempted to upgrade my wiring to 4 guage and throw a second one of these in my rig.
My only suggestion for improvement would be a 2 ohm version or dual voice coil version for more wiring and amp options. Also, a little on the expensive side. If this setup was priced at $200, I would give it 5 stars for value.
Pros: Size Build Quality Sound Quality Power Handling Low-end frequency response is great for such a small package
Cons: A little expensive Only available in 4 ohm version single voice coil
I wanted to add a sound system to my 2000 4runner that I rarely drive. I decided to pick the JL 8 in sub after reading all the positive reviews on it. I wanted something that did not take up too much space. After getting my old Fosgate amp hooked up to it, this sub sounded awesome. I was amazed how such a tiny sub could sound this good. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a small sub that won't take up barely any space.
Pros: Compact size, loud, clean sound.
5 stars all around!!! I was looking for something that I could tuck under the back seat of my 1997 Mitsubishi Delica van and that would provide the low end needed for a lot electronic music - deep house, bass music, grime, drum and bass, you name it. And man, does this thing deliver!! It hides perfectly in the back yet can fill the whole van with clean, powerful bass that you can feel inside your chest. How JL managed to get an 8" sub to do this I still don't know! I'm powering my whole system with the JL HD 700/5 amp which sends 180 RMS to the sub and 75W to the 4 other speakers and the system is more than loud enough while maintaining perfect clarity. My front components are the Kenwood XR-1800P which feature a 7" oversized speaker for mid bass and excellent tweeters while in the back I have a pair of JVC 6x9's. The amp runs all of this and hides nicely under the front passenger seat carpet. All in all this combo seems to have built the perfect setup for a great and balanced sound system that can really pound when needed too ( YAAA!! :D ) but also maintain great audio fidelity. If you're debating on this, JUST GET IT!! Lastly, I also picked up the JL Audio HD-RLC remote bass control and had it run to right below my deck for easy bass adjustment. The adjuster really should come with it though but still worth the extra money as you can then really dial in the low end and turn in down to talk to people in the back without having to go into your menus, etc. Have FUN!!
i changed my vehicle from a Toyota 4 Runner to a 2011 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab. In the 4 Runner I had a MTX- 3 12's box which was great. Obviously did not have the room in the truck. The JL fits on its own underneath the back bench seat and produces fantastic sound and bass. As always the Crutchfield team was highly professional, informative, and courteous. I just wish they had outlets through the country for installation.
First let me say this subwoofer sounds fantastic when run with the right amplifier. It produces some astonishingly accurate (for a ported) and low notes with authority. Be very care though on what you choose to power it with. I originally powered this with an old Alpine MRP M-200 mono amplifier with 150 watts RMS and it sounded amazing on that amplifier. I put that amplifier on my wife's sealed 10" JL Audio BassWedge for her, which also sounds amazing (accurate and tight). I had trouble finding a mono amplifier that was 200 watts RMS and listened to some bad advice where I was told that it's ok to overpower a subwoofer a little bit.
Since the JL Audio 8W3V3-4 woofer is rated between 75-250 watts RMS I bought a Pioneer GM D8601 Mono amplifier with 300 watts RMS because it looked good and was on sale and hey "its ok to overpower it a little". When I installed this amplifier I had nothing but trouble trying to tune it to my system. I followed the proper procedures for setting the gain too. The bass was either there or it was too much. It was very difficult to get a happy medium. The bass was also sloppy/ muddy and the lows were over powering and the upper bass missing. I kept thinking I did something wrong and the placement of the sub was bad. Then I found a 20 year old class AB 2 channel Alpine 3548 in my closet, which when bridged was rated 160 watts RMS into 4 ohms. Well let me tell you when I installed this amplifier in place of the Pioneer I was astonished at the differen
Pros: Huge powerful clean sound from this subwoofer when paired up with the right amplifier. Almost as accuate as a JL Audio sealed enclsure subwoofer.
Cons: Still a ported subwoofer as good as it is my wife's cheaper sealed JL Audio CS110-WXv2 is a little more accurate.
This blew me away once I had it dialed in - big thanks to crutchfield tech support for helping me troubleshoot, by the way. Installed in a Scion xD with a kenwood 350 watt 5 channel amp. I have had 2 vehicles in the past with much bigger, more power hungry sub set ups, and this easily beats them both. It might be the confined harmonics of a small hatchback, but we do have to turn it down to keep it from being heard outside the car. While dialing in the system I had to close the garage doors to keep the neighbors from walking up my drive, wondering what the racket was. It's an amazing speaker that helps bring out the full spectrum of sound, and even with it mounted in the cargo area it feels like no significant space was lost. Color me amazed.
Pros: Great Sound, small enclosure, easy to install, looks good.
I had this sub installed in a 2011 F-150. The rear seat in my vehicle doesn't accommodate many dual sub setups due to the odd rear seat supports so I went with this single sub hoping for the best. I have been pleasantly surprised! If you give this baby the recommended power, you won't be disappointed. Very pleased customer!
Pros: Great sound. Small enclosure. Reasonable price for what you get.
An 8" sub? No way.
I purchased this sub to go under the rear seat of my 2013 Toyota Tundra double cab. The dimensions were a perfect fit. However, I was somewhat skeptical of the punch it would deliver based on its size. I paired this with the JL 500/1 mono amplifier and had them installed. I am running through the factory head unit so the definition do some sounds isn't exactly where I want it but this little guy is incredible. It delivers more punch than I anticipated or even need for that matter. It is very clear and powerful enough to rattle the rear view mirror. It is easily removable if you need and it stores quite nicely under the passenger fold up seat. This thing is more than I thought I was going to get and if you are looking for an absurd amount of bass than this isn't for you. If you want to have a great sounding system that is portable and fits in trucks, get this thing.
Pros: Big sound, clear sound, portable, stores under rear truck perfectly, JL quality, Built in the USA
Wow! I knew this little thing had a good reputation, but I wasn't expecting what I got. I have a very limited amount of space in my F250, so this was pretty much my only choice without going totally custom. I'm glad it was, because this thing puts out some serious thump. It's not going to rattle all the windows in the neighborhood, but for pure accuracy and sound quality, you can't go wrong!
Pros: Clean, hard hitting bass. Small and well constructed package.
Cons: None that I've found so far
Looks can be deceiving! I've had a few 8" subs in sealed enclosures that were larger than this box and they don't even compare to the output of the JL CP108LG-w3v3. This unit is very musical and never sounds too boomy. It goes low - good output down to 30Hz or so (in my car) before it starts significantly tailing off. The best part is the size. I was able to install this under the rear floor of my 2012 Subaru Outback with some modification to the foam tray under the floor. It's totally hidden and I still have my cargo space. Sounds more like a 10" in a larger enclosure!
Pros: Small size allows for creative (hidden) installations. Keep your cargo space! Price is great for the quality/design of the enclosure. You can't replicate this for less money. Output is great and sound quality is excellent.
Cons: For what it is, I can't think of any cons. This product is a home run.
Sounds excellent given this is just a single 8" woofer. I still cannot believe the sound coming from this. Paired this with a JX250 and the sound is just perfect.
Don't be fooled by the size, this little sub rocks . I have mine in the trunk of a 2013 accord powered with about 300 watts. Its not going to be heard down the street, but the bass it produces is plenty for my taste
Pros: small, tight punchy bass
This thing is amazing! I was looking to replace a Sound Ordnance powered sub that quit working after 2 weeks of use, and what a way to go. I have it in a 2011 F150 Supercrew and for it's size you can't do any better. It is powered by a JL120 mono amp which is a good combination. I have it paired with Boston Acoustics SE85s in the doors that are powered by a Boston Acoustics GTA504 amp. I left the factory head unit in because I didn't want to loose the sync system, and all I can say is..... WOW!!!!!! The bass is very tight and fills the room without all of the window and molding shaking that annoys everyone around you. I was hoping to fit it behind the rear seat but it is a little too deep so under the back seat it goes. If you aren't sure about this sub I say do it! One purchase I have never regretted. A bit pricy but worth every penny.
Pros: Huge sound from a small box. Great build quality. The embroidery is a nice touch.
Bought this sub to replace an older JL Audio 12W1 in a ported box to reclaim some trunk space in the back of my Honda CR-V. Obviously it's not nearly as loud as a 12" woofer, but still plenty punchy and the slot port built into the box really helps accentuate the lows. Surprisingly clear, low bass for an 8" woofer running off of a 250/1. Build quality is standard JL- top notch. The box is very well made and the terminals are dead simple to use and provide a clean contact patch with the wire. Even though it seems a little expensive for what it is, I'm very happy with my purchase.
Pros: Solid, well-made box; easy to connect; clear, quality sound; fits underneath the picnic table in a Honda CR-V
Cons: A little pricey
I've read a lot reviews about this sub but it was primarily used in trucks. Since I own a car, I was hesitant about buying this. The main reason I purchased this is because I wanted my trunk space back that the JL Audio 10 in. W-7 enclosure took up. Now it's no W-7 but for an 8 inch sub it thumps. My JL Audio HD 750/1 (used for the W-7) is overkill for this sub but after talking to the technician it's been calibrated properly for this sub. For car applications, I suggest if you own a car with folding back seats, open them up so you can hear the sub without turning up the volume and risk blowing it.
Pros: size and sound
Cons: a little pricey but it is a JL Audio product which is a good thing.
I have an alpine m500 pushing it. It's in the trunk of a Mustang Convertible The bass doesn't come through real well with the top down. I was hoping for a little more. It starts clipping pretty easily from the amp. I may not have it dialed in properly. A lot of people talked about how hard this hit, but maybe mine hasn't broken in yet or amp not adjusted the best.
Pros: Great size for a convertible. It was easy to connected.
Cons: Hope it will start hitting harder soon.
I had to leave a review on this guy, i just installed this sub being powered from jl500 amp and al i can say is really??? this thing sounds unbelievable, absolutly crazy, so clean and with great bass, in fact my buddy came over and has 2 12 kickers in his trunk and even he was almost laughing when i showed him the sub and the size of this beast, one of these is more then enough to power my truck!
Pros: would of never thought how clean this things sounds
Cons: i had to wait 5 days to get it delivered,..lol
Like many others here, I purchased this sub after reading the rave reviews posted on this sight. It seems that most have installed this in crew cab trucks and cars, but I stuck mine in a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I haven't installed a sub system for a few years and missed it. I'm not into earth shattering bass, but still wanted something with cojones. I hooked this up with a JL Audio 250W Amp, and the sound is excellent. To round out the system are some JL 6"x9"s and and basic 6"s in the front off a Kenwood receiver. Not a single person has believed me that the sound is coming from one 8" sub. I can't imagine being happier with this system, which in total cost less than a $1k. In one word, filthy!
I own a 92 Chevy Silverado Single Cab, and really do not have alot of room for subs, so I had been researching the best fit. After lot of thought and looking, I settled on these subs. I ended up installing a pair of them on a Kenwood 400w amp, and it blew me away the quality of sound. These 2 8 inch subs provide more than plenty of bass in the truck, and they will rattle your brains without a lot of noise outside of the truck. Have a small vehicle and limited space? Perfect choice!
Pros: Great sound, Easy to install, Quality built
Cons: None that I can come up with
The other reviews made me buy this product and I'm glad that I did! It really does give you a lot of bass for it's size. I thought it would fit under the back seat of my 2004 F-150 extra cab, but it didn't and I had to get a seat lift kit to fit my amp under the middle and the JL box under the driver's side. Both are now well hidden and the JL stealthbox sounds great. This box is perfect if you want great sound inside without getting pulled over by the police for the sound outside! It's a little on the expensive side, but I'm confident in the quality and the fact that it will last. There's not much out there that will fit under a back seat and sound this good!
Pros: Quality, Sound
This little sub fits great in my Nissan Frontier extra-cab. Since I rarely have more than 1-2 passengers, I removed the rear jump-seat behind the driver's seat and put the JL sub in it's place. It fits neatly on the shelf where the seat used to be and occupies about the same amount of space. This allows me to still utilize as much of the extra-cab as possible for my stuff while filling out the low frequencies in my music that I wanted from a sub. It sounds great and hits plenty hard for me in the small truck cab. I would highly recommend this sub!
Pros: Compact, well built, and sounds great.
I have a 1998 BMW M3 which I use for my business. After the factory speakers went out I replaced them with Polks Audio MM5251 for the front and MM 691 for the rears. Running them from the factory amp was a disgrace to the Polk Audio brand. My installer told be I would blow the speakers if I had too much bass coming out. So I decided to get a JL Audio XD 700/5 five channel amp and bypass the factory amp. I needed a good sub. But I wanted it in the cabin not in the trunk. My installer recommended the Kicker Hideaway, but I did some research and decided to go with the JL Audio 8 inch Microsub, especially since it was ported. It delivers more than enough bass and then some to shake my rear view mirror. I also have the remote bass controller for the amp, I highly recommend this so you can adjust the bass quickly without messing with the head unit when you are driving. Anyway this sub is too big to fit under the seat, and I don't think I wanted one under the seat if it was going to cause vibrations to the passenger. It fits perfectly right in front of my rear seat, in the footwell area without any straps. It takes a little space from that area, but someone can still sit there and the rear seat is rarely used in my car anyway. And since I have a black interior it blends in. This sub delivers tight bass and it is more than I need- exactly what I wanted. I high recommend this setup!! I would put this setup in any car. Most importantly I highly recommend this Microsub!!
Pros: Compact, easy install, nice tight bass, excellent sound, stealth
Cons: Too big to mount under some seats, slightly expensive but worth it.
At first the price can initmidate you because there are boxes with 2 10"s that are close in price. I was looking for a speaker that would not consume my whole trunk space. This sub is able to produce great bass (everyone who hears it cannot believe it is one 8" sub). The size is very small so it does not consume a lot of space either. I can say that although I am very happy with it, if you want to be the person who has bass so intense it shacks the mirrors of the car behind you, this may not do it for you. If you are looking for great bass that shakes your own mirrors, and not consume your whole trunk, this will deliver the results you are looking for.
I recommend to get a amp that when bridged runs at 4ohm so it matches the sub. I bought a Rockford Fostgate that when bridged was 200watts at 4ohm and it is awesome!
Pros: small size, amount of bass, look
Cons: Cannot think of any
i have a rav4 with a hidden recessed trunk space that i wanted to put a sub in. its not a large area so this fit the bill perfectly. i had reservations about it being only 8" but with the great reviews i felt i should give it a try. boy am i really glad i did.
i am powering it with the jl audio 700/5 amp and the pioneer 8400 dvd headunit. the amp provides more than enough power and the sub has a great clean sound. the only reason i give "sound quality" a 4 instead of five is because it can't quite reproduce certain low notes in the music i listen to like a larger sub can, but honestly 90% of the time i don't notice or care. the sub is pretty amazing and fills out the sound perfectly. it allowed me to not only keep my install totally stealth, but its so small that i even have half of the hidden trunk space left to store items when i need too.
great job jl audio!
Pros: small size, clean sound, quality build
I agree with the reviews of everyone else on this product. I just got finished installing a new Alpine head unit, and Alpine components speakers which are powered by a 4 channel Alpine amp. I powered this 8" sub with a 300 watt Alpine mono amp and it rocks. I formally had this same amp powering two 10" speakers and the sound quality from the 8" is amazing. No need for two of them. This entire system went into my 2008 crew cab Chevy Duramax, with the sub easily fitting underneath the rear bench seat. For the person wanting a well rounded system, I would definitely buy this subwoofer. You can't beat it for its performance, size and cost.
Pros: Very compact and affordable
Cons: None that I can think of
I had some doubts when my Crutchfield salesman mentioned the bass this 8 Inch JL Subwoofer could produce in my 2012 Audi Avant Wagon...boy was I wrong, never though an 8 Inch Sub enclosure could sound this good and clean.
Pros: Ease of installation and compactness
Not exactly what I was looking for. I own a 2006 BMW 330i 4DR sedan and I was hoping to save space in my trunk. I read a few reviews from this site, and people were making claims that this unit hit as hard as two 10's. Not even close! I guess this is a "truck" cab style of box, so of course it is gonna sound loud, but BMW's sound proof there trunks (which I did not know), so this little box isn't gonna cut it. Thank goodness for the 60 day return policy. So now I ordered the JL Audio CS110-WXv2, should be here any day now. I'll let you guys know how it sounds.
Pros: Build quality, nice look.
Cons: Not an in the trunk type subwoofer.
I bought this JL subwoofer to replace a great sounding JBL single 12" sub. I get the same deep low base from this 8" and it's a third the size of the JBL. Very good build quality and easy hookup. I especially like the embroidered "made in America" stitched into the covering. Great sub at a good price.
Pros: Nice eye candy. Quality construction. Easy hookup. A great opportunity to by US made quality.
Cons: Use good judgement when selecting the right size sub for your application. I have a small vehicle and this JL sub really fills the bill.
I just had this box put in my truck yesterday and I felt more than obligated to write a review on every website I could find that sold this box. I have a 2012 F150 FX4 SuperCrew. This truck came with everything EXCEPT bass in the speakers. First off everyone knows that JL Audio makes amazing products. The box itself is as small as it gets which makes everyone skeptical on its performance which is expected. When they brought my truck around I heard the bass and was impressed but when I stepped inside to leave... I had to turn the bass down ALL the way because it was so loud. All the reviews, people said they thought they had a pair of 10's or 12's in their truck and I 100% believe them! I have had two 10" kickers in a ported box before and this hits just as hard! It fits under my seat perfectly and you can't even see it! This thing is amazing!
Pros: Perfect size, AMAZING sound, and more bass than anyone would need!
Cons: No Cons!
When I got this in the mail I didn't expect it to be so tiny. After hooking this up to the MTX TD500.1D running 300 watts RMS, all I can say is "wow". I can't believe this is only an 8" subwoofer. It hits the lows superbly. I can't wait for it to be broken in so I can really see what this can handle.
Pros: Loud clean bass, small size makes it perfect for my 2008 2 door wrangler.
Cons: A bit pricey but well worth it.
This sub unit is unbelievable,I've had it for ove a year now and just got it installed this past saturday. Along with the jvc-av50 deck-infinity kappa 2-way 6x9's-infinity kappa 6.75's-infinity kappa 5 channel amp. All in a 2008 Nissan Frontier crew cab. It took my sub a few hours to break in but afther that all i can say is WOW!!!!!! this sub sounds like two brand name 10's and for it to keep up with the kappas it has to be one heck of a sub. By the way the sub is only getting 200 watts.
Pros: Just an all out great subwoofer system
Cons: none at all
Like anyone else shopping for a car subwoofer, I came across this unit and was impressed by the reviews, but I still had limited expectations given that it's "merely" a single 8" driver. Over the course of my life I've probably had 12 different subwoofers (home, auto and boat) ranging in sizes between 8" and 15" of various designs (sealed, ported, bandpass, passive radiator, etc.) and of various brands (Fosgate, KEF, Bazooka, JL, Polk, Focal, Klipsh to name a few). I installed this subwoofer last week under the passenger seat of my car, and powered it with an Alpine MRX-M50, a Mono Sub amp rated at 300W RMS @4ohms.
All I can say is that I was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED at the sound of this thing. Forget everything you previously thought about driver size; this will put 12" subs to shame. This subwoofer is tight, crisp, and hits extremely hard. It doesn't suffer from the sloppiness that you hear in larger diameter drivers, and when you give it more, it just soaks up the power. The crispness remains, no matter how much power you give it. The accuracy and transitions are razor edged, even when it's hitting hard enough to render your rear view mirror useless. Yes.. it's that good. Believe all of the 5 star reviews; they're no accident; you won't be disappointed in this sub, regardless of your expectations. .
Pros: Simply amazing sound. Crisp, tight, hard-hitting. Seems to handle as much power as you can give it with no loss of crispness.
Like others here, I read all the reviews of folks who have already bought this sub and there wasn't a bad review to be found. I purchased this sub and got the free shipping, so it wasn't a rush to get it here. Now that I've heard it in my truck I wish I had got it here sooner, this little sub rocks! I received it via UPS just as I was about to give up waiting on them and leave the office for the day. I went right out to my truck and stripped off the ends of the wires (already bridged on the rear chanel of my Alpine MPR F300 amp) and hooked it up. I fired up my Kenwood DDX419 head unit and the second that little 8" started thumpin' out the bass I got a big ol' grin on my face! It's just incredible how much bass this little speaker box kicks out! Believe ALL the good reviews you read about this speaker/box combo, it's gotta be heard to truly appreciate the quality. You will be as pumped about this setup as the rest of us are.
Pros: Huge sound from a compact setup! Fits great right under the rear seat in my ext cab Silverado!
Cons: A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for...............and more!
I started with one of these powered by a JL 360/2 amp and was already impressed at what kind of sound I was getting from a single 8" sub. It played deeper than a Fosgate P3 10" that I had at the same time. I decided to get a second and throw it in and all I can say in unreal. The sound and bass performance is absolutely perfect. I have an extended cab Isuzu Homre and need to still be able to use my jump seats. These slip right in under the jump seats so I give up no space and pick up unbelievable bass. Everyone that has heard it so far has been blown away that I have 8" subs. Perfect sound but will get intense as the volume increases. I could not ask for more from a set of 8's. Perfect for somebody looking for strong, deep bass but limited on space or not wanting to give up much.
Pros: Very compact size, huge sound, hits very deep bass notes, sound quality, 2 year warranty
I will admit I was a little skeptical about this purchase. When I first glanced at this small package all I could think was No-Way! This little monster has my Nissan Titan Crew Cab humming. I sounds great! If i didn't know ant better i would think that I had some 10's in the back this little package truly delivers.
Pros: This baby is small, compact, and a real value! This woofer reproduces sound in a way you wouldn't believe!
I recently got the CP108LG-W3v3 for my 2008 BMW 5-series. I picked this one up mainly because of the size. BMW trunks are extremely sealed and you either have to get something huge or cut a hole through the ski pass to hear bass back there. However with this unit it's small enough I can have it sitting right behind the driver's seat (since I don't have people riding with me very often). It is freaking perfect. The build quality is insane, this thing is solid. The sound quality is even better. I had an 8 inch bazooka in my old car and it didn't sound anything near this. The bass from this thing is so clean and clear. I have it being powered by a JL audio sub amp and have the bass control know which is very handy. I can turn it up for some really bumping tracks or I can turn it down to get that perfect mix. Def a huge bang for the buck. Get this now if your considering it.
Pros: Build Quality, Sound Quality, Looks, EVERYTHING
Yep, I bought one after reading all the good reviews and felt compelled to add my own experiences.
I bought this sub to round out a completely new system for my '07 4Runner. This sub hides perfectly under the "double deck" in the cargo area and leaves enough room for a second sub and a large amp. I paired this sub with the Sound Ordinance mono amp (210 watts RMS @ 4ohms) and have the gain set at its maximum setting. This sub handles all the power the amp has thrown its way. My head unit is a Kenwood Excelon and the internal crossover is set at 80hz on a 6db/octave slope. When I crank the volume as loud as I dare my hair vibrates as my ears are treated to deep, rich and tight bass. My music library includes Country, Blues, Southern Rock, Smooth Jazz, Disco, and Funk all on CD. This sub satisfies the demands made by any track my mood chooses and has brought a mischievous smile to the passengers riding with me. No one ever believes that it is an 8 inch sub and when they see it they instantly want one of their own.
In conclusion, one of these subs satisfies my needs and two of these subs should be overkill for any sensible person with a 4Runner sized vehicle. Don't be afraid of powering this sub closer to its maximum rated RMS it loves the power and rewards you in return.
Pros: Will not wake up the neighbors. Delivers clean sound. Hides very well.
Cons: Arrived a day later than promised. The rear door of my 4Runner rattles enough that I will need to install Dynamat. Can be found for up to 50 dollars less elsewhere.
This is a small 8 inch subwoofer that thought it was a 12 inch subwoofer. Quality is what you are getting by purchaseing this product. I combined it with a JX 250/1 mono amp from JL and it sounds great. My ears hurt after upgradeing the factory speakers to kikers models DS. Nice and Classy the way I like it. I got this way cheaper through a insider deal at cruthcfield. So I am very happy with what I paid and recieved!
Pros: This product was good because it fit behind my set in my single cab chevrolet s10. It has amazing sound for such a small box and subwoofer. Worth the money if you want to enhance your listening experience. Quality product for a decent price!
Cons: Not for showing off outside of vehicle because it is built for superior sound inside!
I am amazed at what this 8" sub can do. JL did a great job on this one. I could have fit a little bigger box behind my seat so I just wish they had a 10" version. No regrets with this purchase.
Pros: Great little sub for the size and cost.
Cons: I wish there was a 10" version of this sub.
I just received this unit from Crutchfield today. Got it installed and couldn't wait to try it out. "small sub, small box, it can't sound that impressive, my friend said as I did the last connections. I was skeptical too. I read many reviews about this before paying that much for this package. It had so many 5 star ratings it wasn't funny. Figured it had to be decent. Wanted something small for my 2011 F150 crew cab so I'd still have storage under the seat. Adjusted the amp up and turned it on..........Wow!!!! Impressive!! I was looking for that "factory car sub" sound and got much much more!!!! I've had ported boxes with a 10" sub that hit this hard. It's not competition bass, but would be perfect for someone building a clarity system that needs just enough bass. Well worth the money!!! My friend will be ordering one soon!! Thanks Crutchfield!!
OMG!!! i was using a cousins punch p2 while i waited for this sub to come, i just barely started to get into this audio thing and hear jl was DA BOMB! so i ordered this thing. okay.. while i was waiting i was scared it wasnt enough just one sub and went on craigslist trying to find another 8w3 along with a double 8" enclosure. i failed and this thing arrived today i got it set like 10 icnhes away from the trunk firing in a civic 00 and man this sound so so much better than the p2 the bass is tight and it is not like the p2 the bass sounds clean! i just cant explain it cause im new to this but you wont be disappointed, i didnt want my trunk shaking i wanted nice bass that would help my music and it did. btw im powering this with a 500/1 jl set to about 45-50%
It sounds great, just like everyone else has said! However, be aware of a few discrepancies in the photos and product description:
- Mine included a mesh grill, not shown in any of the photos. The grill is removable, but you will need to remove the trim ring in order to get it to come off.
- The ENCLOSURE is only 5.125 inches deep, but the top mount trim ring and the grill add another 1.5 inch or so to the overall depth.
- Mine also has "JL AUDIO" in 2 inch high embroidered letters on the top (speaker) face of the enclosure. This may or may not matter to you, but if you are doing a stealth installation, it may be a problem.
I have installed mine in the cargo tray in the back of a 2010 Prius. With the grill removed, the factory cargo floor panel can even be closed for a completely hidden installation. (Crutchfield doesn't recommend adding amps to the Prius, but I'm using a Class-D and I'm not trying to win any SPL competitions.)
Wow can this sub kick, powered by a Alpine 5 channel amp pushing 300watts for the sub. Main reason for picking this sub was the size installed in a 2008 Toyota Tundra double cab and did not want to lose the under seat storage. JL's Stealthbox would have worked aswell just a little more than what I was willing to spend. JL Audio's Flatwedge worked perfectly, great sound, small package, Crutchfield support what else can you ask for. Installed under drivers rear seat with a little bit of cutting of the under seat storage and not losing much space at all!
I bought this sub for my 2011 CR-V. It does not take up much room in the cargo area and puts out alot of bass, enough to vibrate the rearview mirror on somes songs. Using test tones, bass frequencies down to 30hz can be reproduced. I am powering it with 200watts from the bridged output of a JL Audio 4-channel amp.
Great product. I highly recommend it for sound and price. The sound from only an 8 inch driver is deeper and tighter than I was expecting from a ported enclosure. I'm glad I went with a small profile box designed for quality sound. It removed my worries about a custom enclosure not delivering the sound quality I wanted or taking up space I needed.. It fits in a small space in my 370z about 24 inches from my ear, and I still have enough room for my golf clubs.
Also, the Crutchfield customer service was excellent. The first unit arrived damaged in the overnight shipping. They got a new one out again overnight along wtih an easy return process for the damaged unit.
Love it in my 2003 crewcab duramax. Hits hard enough to shake interior mirror and back window quite a bit. Fits nicely under seat of rear drivers side. Seat wont fold quite flat but sounds great there. Removed flap behind seat and tried it there first, a little tight but I wasn't happy with it there. Put new Jvc nav head unit in,still using the rest of the original Bose system. Boston Acoustic gta 802 amp with optional remote, perfect upgrade. Rocks my truck. Nice deep bass!
I was very sceptical with purchasing this sub because of its VERY small size. Do not let the size fool you one bit this little thing is simply amazing it gets very low and hits very tight for a ported enclosure. I almost never write reviews for the products i buy but i decided to for this because i was just blown away by it. I have mine behind the seat of a 2011 Chevy Silverado reg cab and it fits great. If you are on the fence about this sub BUY IT if you are anything like me you will be amazed!
I wanted something to fit under the rear seat of 05 ext cab f150. Knowing crutchfield's great service I just ordered it not knowing how it would fit. Let me say imo there is no better option out there for a quality sub box for my truck. Fit was perfect and still plenty of room under seat for other necessities. The quality of the box is evident throughout its construction and the sound is exactly what I wanted. Thanks crutchfield and JL audio for excellent products and service.
After reading a million reviews before buying a sub i felt inspired to come back and write my own. I put this 8 in my scion tc which has a small trunk and limited space. I have a pretty basic phoenix gold 300 watt amp running it and I've got to say the output is amazing for such a small speaker. Still pretty punchy and accurate for a ported inclosure and its honestly loud. I had to turn it down immediately after getting it installed because it was overpowering. For a hatchback or small space I'd def. recommend this sub you wont be disappointed.
I have been looking at this subwoofer for about 2 years now. It was one of the very first ones I took a look at. Instead of just spending the money on it, went through 3 other pairs of subwoofers where I was left unsatisfied with every pair.
I finally decided that this is the sound I had been looking for all along!
It fills out the low end so well. I have it right behind my seat, and the bass it produces is tight and clean.
The main reason I am placing this review is because I always continued to check the reviews, looking for a reason to buy this subwoofer over other ones. I finally just did it. It was worth every single penny, and I couldn't be more satisfied.
This is the first car subwoofer I've ever owned so I don't have anything to compare it to but it does exactly what it's meant to do, gives music plenty of bass and takes the load off the regular speakers so they can focus on the mids and highs. Mine is driven by the Alpine PDX-5, which gets it's signal from my Kenwood KDC-HD545U which gets it's music from my iPod Touch through the USB connection.
I have a big collection of jazz and smooth jazz. It's not the hardest hitting music out there bass wise but the subwoofer helps the whole system sound very clear throughout the entire recorded frequency range. When my little bro puts on his techno music the subwoofer really comes alive and you can really feel the bass.
Perhaps all subwoofers have this issue, but when it's near 0 degrees (Fahrenheit) at night the subwoofer is too stiff to do much of anything until the interior of the car warms up. I'm glad I have a hatchback so the heat can get to where the subwoofer is, having it in the trunk of a regular car might be a bit of a problem when it's that cold out. I suppose you could crank up your system and force the subwoofer to start working but I'm not willing to try that.
I love how small this subwoofer is. I have it in the back of my hatchback off to the side firing up towads the rear window. There's still plenty of room to load up on groceries or gear for a camping trip.
If you're looking for sound quality in a small package, you can't go wrong with the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3.
I don't usually take the time, but this little bugger impressed me. I was about to buy the 10" Rockfort for behind the seat of my truck when the salesman (I happen to live close to one of the only stores) told me the 8" JL would hit harder and be cleaner, so I took his word. WOW This sub is tight!!! I am going to buy a second one to fill out the rest of the space. It is pricey, but options are limited for something so small with so much kick.
This 8" sub is a great overall value for the price. It hits extremely hard for a 8" driver. The overall construction of the box is what you would expect from JL. I highly recommend this product to someone looking for big sound in a little package. This is a great addition to any sound system.
I am thrilled with this little sub. The enclosure/driver combination is perfect. It delivers very tight bass with astonishing kick. It will do anything except announce your presence at a stop light from a block away (at least I don't think it will; it might but I wouldn't want to be in the car to find out).
Mine is paired with an Apline PDX-5, which is another killer device, in a 2008 Geekmobile (Prius).
I bought this sub for my 2009 Ford Escape. Although I had room for something much bigger, I chose this sub because I could completely conceal it with some modification to my cargo area. I would've been happy if it simply filled out the low end of my music, but it does much more than that. This little guy hits HARD. My friends can't believe it's an 8-inch. It sounds more like a 12! I'm running it off a Pioneer head unit and an Alpine mono amp rated 300 watts at 4 ohms. I've listened to all kinds of music through it, from rock to rap to classical, and it handles them all with a little tweaking. If you want to, you'll have no trouble making your mirrors vibrate and feeling the soundwaves in your back. No, it won't make your teeth rattle and your eyes water like a thousand-watt dual 15-inch setup. But if that's your goal, why are you researching a compact sub anyway?
Okay, If you have read all the other reviews and still have doubt, I'm here to tell
that I did too. I was wrong. I bought this little guy for my 07 Silverado Reg. cab
pickup. It fits perfectly behind the passenger seat and it sounds WAY bigger
than it is. My friend got in and thought it was a 12". NOPE! I'm not even
running it through a JL amp. I went with a Sound Ordnance amp which puts
210 Watts to the sub, which is plenty! You will not be sorry if you buy this, but,
as mentioned before, it won't wake up the neighbors.
This little sub can put out some good sounding bass. Don't expect heart pounding bass, but for a single 8, I am very impressed with this sub, and because it is JL Audio, you are getting excellent sound quality and the best performance out of their 8W3 subwoofer.
I am running a Kicker 5 channel amp, feeding the sub about 250 watts RMS and they really sound great! In the past, I have had 2 12's and in my previous vehicle, 2-10s (JL Audio 10W3s) and must say that I am VERY impressed with this single 8. The sound quality is truly amazing, and this sounds good with any kind of music. I listen mostly to hip/hop, rock, and some rap and electronica.
You will not be disappointed with this sub. I may order another one since I could fit 2 under the rear seat of my 07 Toy Tundra double cab.
Have one of these under the rear seat of my 2009 F-150 Supercrew and it fits perfectly and takes up only a small amount of space. It's powered by a JL G6600 on channels 5&6. The bass from this 8 inch sub is absolutely incredible. It put the factory sub to shame, and while it may not create the deep earth shattering bass of a 12 inch sub, it's punchy and accurate and has the ability to discover the low end because it is ported. And I bet it would keep up with any 10 inch sub out there of the same price or less. It flawlessly keeps up with any music I throw at it, and it's still in its break in phase. A wonderful sub with a price that cannot be beat.
There was no place for me to hide a sub woofer in my car, but I wanted really good sound. This proved to be a wonderful choice-I can easily disconnect it if needed, it matches my interior perfectly and it produces great sound-could not be without it.
I installed this woofer in a 1989 Honda Accord DX Coupe. I was very impressed with its performance. I cant wait to see how it sounds after I tune the entire
system. I plan to purchase another one for my convertible. If you have limited space and want nice bottom, look no further. This 8" box gets the job done. It is truly a great buy.
Just got this 8 inch enclosed sub today to replace a 12" Rockford Fosgate enclosed single sub setup that I just bought that just couldn't perform to the level I was looking for. I can honestly say this thing hits just as hard as the 12 inch rockford and it has super clean bass like as expected from JL Audio. I would love to of bought 2 10's in a enclosed setup but my 09 tacoma dbl cab can only fit very small speakers behind the back seats. Im a total audiophile when it comes to home entertainment and car audio and I can promise anyone who gets this sub that you will absolutely love it. Whether you are jamming low end bass or you want that tight responsive bass this little guy has you covered. Highly recommended!!! 5 stars !!!!
This was my first JL, and it won't be my last. I've got the g2250 JL amp powering it, and it just plain pounds. I have it in my Jeep Liberty, and it sounds amazing. My buddy has 2 12" subs, that don't hit as hard as this little 8". The cool part is that it takes up no trunk space. When people hear it, I have to prove to them that it is only an 8" sub. It's well worth the money. I highly recomend this sub.
I am very surprised on how deep this sub gets. I was looking to find a sub that would fill in some low end and I got much more than I thought. I have the gain set at half way and my bass boost +2 out of 6 total. This thing shakes my rearview mirrow and I can really feel it in my seat. I have it in my trunk of my Ford Fusion and it sounds great. This isn't the sub for someone who wants to wake up the neighbors, but if they want great sound to fill in their music, with a great brand like JL Audio, you can't go wrong.
I paired the sub up with a JL Audio G2250 amplifier.
Wow. I used to be a bass-head in high school, and 11 years later, I find myself more into SOUND QUALITY. I am limited in space as I have a truck with an extra cab. I chose this sub because of the JL brand name and I wanted PRECISE and ACCURATE lows. Well I got that with this sub and a lot more. Just for the heck of it, I turned it up LOUD, and THIS THING HITS!!! Very hard to belive the sound comming out of an 8"!!! If you are looking for quality- you got that with the JL brand. If you want bass you will be suprised as I was with this little powerhouse.
I listened to this box and was very impressed, it sounds much larger than a 8 inch speaker.
I had to walk over and actually make sure that was the box playing, and a woman came in while it was playing and said that is what i need.
Put it in a 2005 Ford Ranger and sounds great and not all that big for small spaces.
