Product Research

Features

Overview: The ACP108LG-W3v3 MicroSub+ is a compact powered subwoofer, useful in vehicles with limited space. The ported enclosure is loaded with one 8W3v3-0.40 8" low impedance subwoofer (0.4Ω) and a 250 watt RMS class-D amplifier. The amp uses JL Audio's exclusive DCD amplifier technology, combining direct power conversion (no conventional switching power supply) with an ultra-high current output section. The result is an efficient design (91-94%) with very little heat generated.

Enclosure Design: The enclosure features MDF (medium-density fiberboard), constructed using CNC woodworking equipment, and covered with high-grade automotive carpeting. The driver is protected by a black steel-mesh grille. The port and amplifier panel are both on the same side of the enclosure.

Flared Port: The enclosure has a side-firing flared slot-port. The flared slot-port design minimizes turbulence and improves fidelity. The port is approximately 1-3/8" x 4" at the opening.

Power/Ground Plug: The power, ground, and remote turn-on wires attach to a removable terminal block; easily unplugged so the subwoofer can be removed when you need more storage space. Each terminal is a screw clamp that will accept up to 8 gauge wire (minimum 8 gauge power and ground recommend).

Audio Inputs: The amplifier section will accept either a line level (RCA) or speaker level signal. A 12" speaker level input harness is included.

Remote Level Control: An optional RBC-1 wired Remote Bass Control (item number 136RBC1, sold separately) allows bass level adjustment from the front of your vehicle.

Controls:

  • Input Sensitivity: rotary control; variable from 70 mV to 1.4 V for the RCA inputs and 280 mV to 5.4 V for the speaker level inputs
  • Turn-On Mode: three position switch:
    • REM: amp turns on when +12 volts DC is applied to the remote terminal
    • DC: the amp turns on when a DC offset voltage is detected on the speaker level inputs
    • Signal: the amp turns on when an audio signal is detected on the speaker level inputs, turns off after 30 seconds without an input signal
  • Crossover: rotary control; the crossover point is continuously variable from 50 Hz to 200 Hz; the slope is 12 dB/octave and the low-pass crossover is always engaged
  • Polarity: two position switch; allows you to reverse the phase of the subwoofer (0°, 180°)

Protection Circuit: The amp is equipped with thermal protection circuit; it will shut down if it overheats.

Dimensions:

  • Width: 18-1/2" (18-3/4" including wiring)
  • Height: 11-1/8"
  • Depth: 5-1/8" (6-5/8" including grille)

Q
Will this fit behind the rear seat on 2022 F150 Supercrew ?
rick  Oct 14, 2022
1 answer
A
Unfortunately, we only have measurements for the space behind the seats of the regular cab and supercab. At this time we do not have measurements for the supercrew. The measurements for this enclosure are 18-1/2"W x 11-1/8"H x 5-1/8"D. We recommend checking these measurements against the available space in your truck. If you need further help with this project, please reach out to our advisors via chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

I have a 2020 Ford Edge. Will this fit under the front seat? Can't Install in rear of car. I haul items for work that use all my backseat and cargo area.

Don't know used in Jeep jk 2 door. If you can make it fit buy it. It kicks @&#.
gerard  Sep 02, 2021
A
My guess is that it will be too large for the area under a carseat. We asked about this when we had it installed, but the recommendation was that this would not be a good idea.

Q
Will these work in HD hard saddle?
nat  Nov 01, 2019
1 answer
A
This wont fit in a saddle bag and wont fit in the pizza box if you have one, because its too long where the pizza box is square. The saddle bag wont be wide enough and the back wall that goes down the fender is at too much of a slant. There are some solid lid subs Ive seen tho..

Q
Will this amp power my speakers in my car as well?
mikeyg  Mar 30, 2019
3 answers
A
No, it only powers the sub in the enclosure.
michael  Apr 08, 2019
A
No
john  Apr 08, 2019
A
I'm just an informed hack, but the literature on powered sub woofers tell me that the theory behind a powered (having a separate, dedicated amplification component) speaker is to fully power the subwoofer therefore allowing the head amp or integrated amplifier to fully support the associated system with "power" with little to no stress or demand when the bass part of the music calls for it. So, no, it is not designed to do that.
john  Apr 08, 2019
Q
Does anyone know what's the lowest frequency it can play?
frank  Oct 20, 2018
1 answer
A
I have not used a sound generator to test my subwoofer and I don't really do that with my home system either. At home I have very good results imho with a REL subwoofer. I'm hearing Johnny Cash very clearly on lower notes ang that's consistent with my home system that I've spent a lot of time tweaking. The music doesn't "boom" and has a good "soundstage" for my tastes. I'd guess at around 40 Hz. It is still pretty clean. I hope that helps. I have an average "inhanced" system that came stock with my 2014 Prius, not a high end electronics setup, so it works well in my situation.
john  Oct 20, 2018
Q
I noticed all the reviews installed this on their TRUCKS and are very happy. Does someone install this on a CAR inside the TRUNK? If so how was the sound? Someone told me bass is lacking if this is install in the trunk of a car.
gerald  Jun 16, 2018
1 answer
A
It's still provides great performance from a trunk installation. It offers great wattage (250 RMS) and the ported enclosure for excellent efficiency. Q
Im torn between this 8 inch ported and the 10 inch sealed. Why did you buy this instead of the 10 inch?
gerald  Jun 10, 2018
1 answer
A
I searched forums extensively for the same answer. There was little difference between the two. I've owned the 8" for a while now and it (the 8") is, so far, everything I hoped it would be. Fills my car (2014 Prius) with complete, full range fidelity. I don't need to rock my neighbors at or along my journey but it does.

A
It was a better fit under the back seat of my truck.
lou  Jun 19, 2018
A
I was torn as well.. However, I was limited on Space. While the dimensions are similar, I needed the smaller of the two. Plus the elimination of an external amp and finding a place for it. I am very happy with the sound output on this one. Everyone asks if I have a 10 in the back.
james  Jun 12, 2018
A
8's pounds like 10's and in a small package.
charles s  Jun 10, 2018
A
I only went with the 8 inch due to the space limitations I had in my F150 crew cab. If you've ever had a 10 or 12 and go with the 8, you will miss the lows that even a 10 can produce. The 8 is great for the size, but I miss what I got from a much cheaper sealed Kenwood 10. Although I don't regret my purchase, I hope to get a JL 12 in the near future.
alfred  Jun 10, 2018
A
Because it was the only one I saw available. I didn't realize you had a 10 inch one available too at the time of purchase
andres  Jun 10, 2018
A
When I was shopping for a subwoofer I never even looked at the 10 inch one. I went to a local audio place and heard this one and it sounded better than the two 12-inch Subs it was next to. The sound is amazing and it fits in tight spaces really well.
stephen  Jun 10, 2018
A
I bought the 8" because of space constraints. I wanted something that would fit under my rear seat and not stick out. It hits hard enough for me. I have it tuned down most of the time. It's a great sub. It hits as hard as a low end 10" sub and still fits nicely under my rear seat of my f-150 super crew. Can't go wrong either way. If you have the space go with the 10". I'm happy with the 8" though.
