Compact design applies to internal components too.

JL Audio's XD600/1v2 amp packs a wallop far beyond what you'd expect from something so small. This amp plays bass with true fidelity and impressive impact, without straining your car's electrical system. A cast alloy heatsink and an advanced cooling system keep this amp at optimal temperature, eliminating thermal shut-downs so your music keeps going strong without interruption.

The XD600/1v2 mono amp delivers up to 600 watts RMS to your subwoofer, and its low-pass filter features a choice of slopes for better control over the character of your bass. A subsonic filter allows you to tighten up your system's kick and gets rid of any inaudible, low-frequency information that could detract from your sub's performance.

Works with almost any vehicle's system

"Differential-balanced" inputs keep the signals clear of outside noise, and allow you to connect this amp to just about any in-dash stereo, even a factory radio. The speaker-level inputs feature two auto turn-on modes so you can readily incorporate this amp into a factory system — no need for RCA connections or a remote turn-on lead. An optional wired remote lets you tweak the volume of your sub from the front seat.

More details on the JL Audio XD600/1v2

Features

XDv2 Series: The JL Audio XDv2 amplifiers feature big audio performance from a small footprint. With advanced NexD switching technologies, the XDv2 amps exceed 80% efficiency, running cooler than most other amplifiers. The Advanced Thermal Rollback System gives you increased reliability and better audio performance by virtually eliminating thermal shut-down. Because the XDv2 amps employ smaller cast alloy heat sinks, they can be installed in smaller spaces. XDv2 amplifiers feature a black powder-coat finish with a brushed aluminum cover for the controls.

Monoblock Class-D Subwoofer Amplifier: The XD600/1v2 is a Class-D monoblock amplifier, designed specifically for driving subwoofers. It has two positive and two negative speaker output connections to make it easier to connect multiple subwoofers. The terminals are wired in parallel internally. The amplifier is stable down to 2 ohms.

Amplifier Rating: The XD600/1v2 is rated at 400 Watts RMS x 1 channel at 4-ohms (20 Hz to 20 kHz), Signal-to-Noise Ratio of >87 dB, 1% THD, @14.4 Volts. At 3 ohms, the rated power is 500 Watts RMS, and at 2 ohms, it outputs 600 Watts RMS.

Advanced Rollback Protection: The XDv2-Series amplifiers employ advanced thermal and low-impedance protection to virtually eliminate annoying amplifier shut-down events. Should any XDv2-Series amplifier ever overheat, its intelligent, unregulated power supply reacts by limiting available peak voltage until the amplifier returns to a safe temperature range. Likewise, if an impedance lower than optimal for the amplifier is present at the outputs, the XDv2 amplifier will roll back peak voltage to protect itself without shutting down.

Differential-Balanced Inputs: The XD600/1v2 features differential-balanced input architecture to effectively control noise and ensure compatibility with a wide variety of source units, including many OEM systems. Without resorting to line output converters, you can directly connect most OEM source units to the amplifier without creating any noise or compatibility issues. Unlike conventional single-ended inputs, the differential-balanced design does not connect one side of the audio signal to chassis ground. This eliminates any voltage sensitivity between one input terminal and ground and greatly reduces the incidence of alternator whine in a typical car audio installation.

Note: You will need a Speaker Wire to RCA adapter (sold separately) to connect this amplifier to your head unit via speaker level.

Protection Circuitry With Status Indicator Lights: There is a single multi-color LED on the top panel of the amplifier to indicate the amplifier's operating status.

  • Flashing Green: When the LED is flashing green, the amplifier is powering up and audio output is muted.
  • Constant Green: This LED lights green to indicate that the amplifier is turned on and operating normally.
  • Constant Red: This Red LED lights to indicate that the amplifier has exceeded its safe operating temperature, putting the amplifier into a self-protection mode, which reduces the power output of the amplifier. The red light will shut off and the amplifier will return to normal, full-power operating mode if the heat sink temperature drops back to a safe level.
  • Constant Amber (Yellow): The Amber (Yellow) LED light indicates that an over-current condition has occurred and is accompanied by a muting of the amplifier's output. Over-current condition can be caused by a speaker impedance lower than the optimum load impedance range for the amplifier or a short-circuit in the speaker wiring.
  • LED Off: The only condition that will shut down an undamaged XD600/1v2 completely is if battery voltage or remote turn-on voltage drops below 10-volts. The amplifier will turn back on when voltage climbs back above 11-volts.

Cooling System: The outer shell of the JL Audio amplifier is designed to remove heat from the amplifier circuitry. For optimum cooling performance, this outer shell should be exposed to as large a volume of air as possible.  Enclosing the amplifier in a small, poorly ventilated chamber can lead to excessive heat build-up and degraded performance.

Controls

Control Panel Cover: The XD600/1v2 features a brushed aluminum Control Panel Security Cover which protects and hides the amplifier's controls. When installed, the cover ensures that the amplifier's settings are not accidentally changed while creating a clean aesthetic look for the amplifier and your installation. The control panel security cover is pre-installed at the factory and must be temporarily removed to access the amplifier's controls. The security cover is secured by two 2.5mm hex-head screws.

Simplified Gain Setting: This XDv2 Series amplifier makes setting the gain level of the amp via the input sensitivity control very simple. All you need isa digital AC voltmeter and a test CD (both sold separately)with a sine-wave test-tone recorded at 0 dB reference level in the frequency range to be amplified for that set of channels (50 Hz for subwoofers).

Flexible Input Section And Active Crossover Network: The XD600/1v2 amplifier provides a flexible input section and a comprehensive crossover network to fine tune your system effectively and accurately:

  • Infrasonic Filter: The amp features an Infrasonic Filter, sometimes referred to as a Subsonic Filter, which conserves amplifier power and protects subwoofers by filtering out unwanted, inaudible sub-bass frequencies. This 24 dB/octave, 30 Hz Infrasonic Filter can be turned on or off by way of a two-way switch.
  • Low-pass filter: You can switch between the 12dB/octave Butterworth or 24dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley crossovers, or bypass the low-pass filter if you have an external active crossover in the system.
  • Filter Frequency: The filter frequency can be selected using the rotary control. The control has forty detented positions for selecting the precise frequency you desire. There are markings at 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, 200Hz, and 500Hz, plus there is a chart in the Owner's Manual with the exact cutoff frequency for each detent.

Turn-on Options: The Turn-on Mode Switch lets you choose the method for turning the amplifier on and off:

  • +12V Remote Turn-on Lead: The preferred method for turning the amplifier on and off is by running a turn-on lead from the source unit and connecting it to the Remote terminal. When +12V is present at the terminal, the amplifier will turn on. When the +12V is turned off, the amplifier will shut off. The set screw connector on the Remote terminal will accept 18 AWG to 12 AWG wire.
  • DC Offset-Sensing: The amplifier will turn on and off when the presence of a very small DC signal (or offset) is detected on the amp's RCA left channel input. The amplifier will turn off when this DC Offset is no longer present. This method is designed for high-level (speaker-level) input signals, not for low-level (line-level) signals.
  • Signal-Sensing: The amplifier will turn on and off by detecting the presence of a full-range audio signal at the left-channel input. The amp will turn off approximately 30 seconds after the audio signal is no longer detected. This method is designed for use with high-level (speaker-level) input signals and not for low-level (preamp level) signals.
Note: When the DC Offset or Signal Sensing turn-on methods are being used, the amp's Remote terminal can be used as a remote turn-on output for other amplifiers or accessories in the system.
Connections

Power/Ground/Turn-On Terminals: This JL Audio XDv2 amplifier features set screw clamp terminals for the power, ground, and remote turn-on connections. A 2.5mm hex-wrench is supplied for tightening or loosening the set screws.

  • Power and Ground: The amplifier's set screw clamp Power and Ground connections are designed to accept 4 AWG power wire.
  • Remote Turn-On: The amplifier's set screw clamp turn-on lead will accept 18 to 12 AWG wire.
Note: The Amplifier is not equipped with a fuse. An external 50-amp AFS, AGU, or MAXI fuse must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 50-amps, the original should be replaced with a 50-amp fuse.

Speaker Output Terminals: The JL Audio XD600/1v2 features four set screw clamp speaker terminals for an easy parallel subwoofer connection. The terminals will accept 16 to 8 AWG speaker wire.

Preamp Inputs: The amplifier features one set of differential-balanced RCA jack inputs with an Input Voltage switch. For preamp level signals, the switch should be set to LOW. For speaker level signals, the switch should be set to HIGH. The rotary Input Sensitivity gain control can be set the amp to the specific signal source that is feeding it. The amplifier's input voltage range is 200mV-2V (LOW) and 800mV-8V (HIGH).

Preamp Outputs: The XD600/1v2 incorporates a buffered pass-through preamp output section, so that additional amplifiers can be easily added to the system. The preamp output signal is not affected by the amp's Low-Pass Filter. If the Input Voltage switch is in the LOW position, the level of the Preouts matches the input signal strength. When the Input Voltage switch is in the HIGH position, the level of the input signal is attenuated -12dB to produce a line-level signal at the Preouts.

Remote Level Control: The amplifier features a standard RJ-14 telephone connector for adding the optional wired HD-RLC Remote Level Control (sold separately). The Remote Level Control lets you control the volume of the XD600/1v2 from the driver's seat.

Q
Can i run two 12W6v3-D4W6v3 Series 12 with amp ? Or. Can you guys recommends which amp is best option for 2 subs W6. Thank ls
aj gill  Feb 26, 2024
1 answer
A
The 12" JL Audio W6 with dual 4-ohm voice coils can handle 600-watts RMS, AJ. For the best performance with two you will need a larger amplifier. You'll need to wire them in a parallel/series configuration to show 4-ohms impedance at your amp. The JL Audio HD1200/1 below would provide 600-watts RMS to each speaker when driving a 4-ohm load with its regulated output! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_136HD1200/JL-Audio-HD-Series-HD1200-1.html

Q
Would the JL audio xd600/1v2 amp run 2 JL 12w0v3 subs?
rylan  Dec 11, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Rylan. Thank you for your question. The W0's are 4 ohm, and would be wired to 2 at the amp. Each sub is rated for 300 watts, and the XD600/1v2 puts out 600 watts at 2 ohms. Its a perfect match.

Q
How many watts per channel?
georgewballhair  Oct 04, 2022
1 answer
A
Great question, and that depends on which impedance load on your sub or subs combination you have, either 2ohms or 4 ohms total John. Into a 4 ohm load you will see 400 watts mono, and into a 2 ohm load you will see 600 watts mono. This amp has dual speaker outs, but they are for convenience in connecting multiple subs, as a mono amp this amp only has one output channel. I hope this helps!

Q
In using a "fuse tap" to turn the amp on instead of the remote connection from the head unit. What size fuse should be used at the tap when a 30A ATO is being tapped into?
luke  Jun 15, 2021
1 answer
A
Fuse taps require one fuse to be the original size on the circuit and the new accessory part to have a fuse less than the original; in this case, less than 30A to otherwise the current draw could overwhelm the original circuit and blow its fuse.

Yes I have 2 12 inch jl audio subs and I can only have the amp 3/4 the way turned up. Great amp tho
brandon  Mar 10, 2021
A
The amp is rated 400 watts @4ohms, the sub you are using is 4ohms. If your gains are set at a proper level I would trust it personally.
gary  Mar 10, 2021
A
Not at all. The truth is you don't want to use an amp at 100% capacity. Can you blow the sub by turning it up too much? Sure. But equally you can destroy your sub by clipping the signal maxing out the amp or signal. Having more than enough power gives you headroom or the ability for the amp to handle any music with ease. I've had amps paired watt to watt, when cranking it, I found it more disappointing. Take a look at distortion and when amps are pushed too hard. Having excess "juice" or power won't hurt anything. Just keep the gain down. Result is audible and I think you'll enjoy it.

I have two xd600/1v2 amps each running one kenwood single 4-ohm 12" subwoofer in a truck box under the rear seat of my Silverado. Didn't tell much difference when I went from one amp to two. Is that because the resistance doubled now that the subs are not wired in parallel? What's the best configuration and tuning for me? New to this please help.

Will I need an additional battery for this amp in a Hyundai Genesis coupe that has a stock 150 amp alternator?
chuck  Oct 08, 2019

A
Works fine with the stock 210Amp alternator in my M235i.
robert  Oct 23, 2019
A
It depends on how many amplifiers you are running if you are just running this for a sub woofer and nothing else. It would run fine off the single battery. Now if you run multiple amplifiers then you can see how they run off the stock battery and alternator and upgrade as needed

Q
If using JL Audio XD-CLRAIC2-SW to connect high level inputs to the amp, do i need to use both Left and Right speakers to connect on the amps L and R? Or will one suffice? Either the left or a right speaker input?
servando  Sep 24, 2019
2 answers
A
Marc nailed it! The XD600/1v2 amplifier's input section automatically sums stereo signals to mono for the internal amplifier section making it so you don't need to use both RCA inputs.
jason  Oct 12, 2019 (Staff)
A
You need to connect both R/L to have stereo sound. All music from the 70s to today's recording are recorded with stereo L/R to include base. You would only get half the sound if you did just one channel depending on the recording. An example would be if they did the main singer on the left channel and the backup singers on the right channel, you would hear only one or the other. You can get away with your suggested option with base. If you using it for base you can bridge it with just one high level input or if you just don't care about stereo sound you can use it the same way for your front/back speakers with one high level input. One input is for bridged mode. Don't expect one line in and two lines out. So one channel in and one channel out. Hope that makes sense
marc  Oct 11, 2019
Q
If connecting to RCA inputs from an LC2i do I put input voltage switch on high or low? I think its high because the LC2i puts out 9-13V and the amp guide says high is 800mV to 8V.

A
Mine is on high. Right or wrong, I don't know, but I'm sure when I set it up 2 years ago I did the research to justify setting it to high. I'm using this amp and the LC2i with Kicker CompRT 43CWRT102 10" Dual 2-ohm Component Subwoofer. Good luck!
