Note from Crutchfield: We've confirmed that the HD750/1 amps currently in stock are not part of this recall from JL Audio. If you bought an HD750/1 amp after July 2008, please check with JL Audio to see if your amp needs to be sent back for repair.
JL Audio's HD Series amplifiers offer high performance from an ultra-compact chassis. These Class D amplifiers use less power, take up less space, and generate less heat than traditional amp designs — you can even stack them up to create a sweet-looking installation.
HD Series amplifiers reproduce your music with exceptional accuracy, so you'll hear high-fidelity sound even under the most demanding conditions. JL Audio uses Single Cycle Control™ technology to eliminate the excessive signal distortion that's plagued Class D amplifiers in the past. Differential-balanced inputs eliminate noise before it hits the preamp stage, and allow you to connect the amp to just about any in-dash stereo. You'll hear clear, true, studio-quality audio, exactly what you expect from JL Audio.
The HD750/1 class D mono amplifier pushes 750 watts RMS to your sub, from a 2" tall chassis that's about the size of a sheet of computer paper. The regulated power supply allows this amp to deliver its rated power to a wide range of impedances (1.5 to 4 ohms), even when voltage levels drop during heavy use. Removable power and speaker plugs make it easy to pop this amp out if you need the space in your cargo area.
You can use JL Audio's optional stack kit to mount one HD Series amp on top of another, so you can maximum power from minimum space. JL's wired remote allows you to control your HD amp's volume from your front seat.
You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.
Have this amp powering my 12w7-AE. This thing pounds. Has a very small footprint. It was able to fit under neath my rear captain chairs in my 2007 tahoe so it is hidden very well. Very well worth the money.
JL is a brand for the listener's listener. If you get a new amp/sub setup and the excitement is eclipsed the need to improve it. Or, you always find a nagging clarity or punch deficite, then this is an amp (and product line) to consider. You will spend more money with JL, but you will get more production as well. It's always more expensive to go cheap and then end up biting it than it is to just get it in the first place. Again... Depending on your ear. I was weary of the new HD technology as the raw power of the slash series mono blocks has been my standard for power for a little no time now. The 750/1 delivers in spaydes. It's a perfect marriage with my 10w7 and delivers clean and strong. I had a very rare malfunction issue and was concerned as I called customer service because a lot of retailers will get out of returns once you install the unit. The gentleman on the phone was extremely helpful, talked me through a couple of test scenarios, agreed there was a malfunction and imeadiately sent out a replacement and return shipping labels! I have never seen anything malfunction with JL, so I don't hold this against them, but the benefits of buying through Crutchfield boom louder than my sub!
Pros: Small, lightweight, strong power handling, push-plug connectors in the rear for a clean finish.
Cons: Hard to take the push-plug connectors out if you want to adjust anything.
Sweet, clean power!!! Pushing a J L Audio 10" AE sealed box sub. I hope it does not blow out the glass in my hatchback. P.S. Performs much better if you use 2 guage power & ground. J L suggests min 4 guage, but the power plugs will accept up too 2 guage. The meter does not lie. This puppy loves power, don't starve it.
Pros: Wonderful, size is great, purchased stacking deck and it helped me save some room in my hatshback trunk
WOW! I'm driving one 10'' JL W3v3 with this amp and it sounds amazing. Its small size made it easy to tuck under the seat and being so efficient, it barley gets warm. Using the optional wired remote is very handy, as my head unit does not have a quick access to sub level control. You can just feel the quality in this unit when you turn and switch the controls. Smooth dials and solid "clicks" from the switches.
Pros: Sounds amazing, Very fine tune able, Efficient, Optional wired remote, Adjustment controls on the front and power/speaker inputs in the back make for a clean install look. High quality!
Pushes 3 10w3's with no problems. I am completely happy
I purchased this amp after my other one was on it's last leg after 12 years of service. The reason I purchased JL Audio because the 10 inch W-7 I purchased 2 years prior. The JL Audio products really impressed me. This amp was physically smaller and wattage wise was less but this thing had no problem pushing that beast of a sub. Now I downsized my sub (long story) and went with the JL Audio CP108LG W-7V3 (8in. in a ported enclosure). After talking to the technicians I properly calibrated this monster amp for the smaller subwoofer. Please follow the manual on properly setting this amp with whatever subwoofer you may own. If you don't know, ask someone with experience with the JL Audio product experience.
Pros: physically smaller (more flexible on installs) and power
I just purchased this amp to power my 12'' JL W7AE3. I was previously using a Kicker KX1200.1 @ 750RMS with 3 Ohms.
The Kicker was just not doing justice to my W7.
The Kicker could power it and was LOUD but you could tell there was not complete clarity in the sound.
The moment I turned the system on I was listening to the same song I have heard everyday for the past 6 months, and I was hearing notes that the Kicker could just not reproduce while producing the low bass notes. This thing hits WAY harder than the Kicker did.
If you have a JL sub do it the service of getting the JL amp to power it, you won't be disappointed.
If you are looking for a good amp that will provide an excellent signal go with this JL.
Pros: Great Signal Clarity
Cons: Haven't found one yet
This product is amazing. Well worth the money to me, i have it hooked up to my 15" alpine type r dvc 4 ohm sub. This combo is just beautiful, the sound quality is crystal clear. my favorite feature of this amp is how much power it draws on my system. Having a small car like i do i need all the power i can get. With this amp it draws so much less power than any other amp i have owned. I am able to run it on just battery power alone for a good 30 mins. Which is just amazing to me since i was only able to run my old amp for 5 minutes on my battery, and it was less than half of the power of this. It is so compact that you would be able to stick it under your seat no problem. I did a ton of research on this amp before i bought it and had trouble finding real reviews. So here is mine, i love my 750. I plan on buying another so i can stack it. Not yet though, one 15 is enough for my corolla:)
Pros: small, draws less power than class a/b amp, nice design, cool features, great sound quality.
Cons: i wish the detachable wire plugs were a bit easier to remove when needed. maybe just a little button to release it. Instead you have to wiggle it out pretty agressively. But that is the only con that i know of
I just upgraded my old JL Audio amps that was the 1000/1 to power 1 12w7 and a 300/4 to power 2 pairs of 6 1/2 Infinity 3 way speakers, now I have a HD 750/1 powering my 12w7 and the 600/4 powering the 4 Infinities anSlash amps do!!!
I currently have this pushing one 10" JL W7 and its astonishing. My only gripe with this amp was that it lasted 10 months before getting the alternating red/green light. Had my car checked out to be sure it wasnt a voltage or wiring issue. So if those two things check through it meant the amp died and needed to be serviced. At least JL offers an outstanding warranty. My only concern now is the replacment I get goes boom after the warranty is gone. Wish me luck!
You will NOT be disappointed with this!!! . I currently have this amp hooked up to a set of JL Audio 12W3V3's subs in a ported box and the sound is complete BLISS!! Not to mention the absolute power this thing produces is amazing!! It seriously pounds out a full 750 RMS as JL promises unlike cheaper stuff that massively over-rates their specifications!! I drive an 03 Mitsubishi Galant with everything stock incliding the alternator(85 amp output). The only thing I upgraded was the battery to a higher reserve capacity so that this power-house of an amp could run with ease. My lights dim just a little a night,..and I do mean just a little!! If you plan to install yourself, just make sure that you run 4 gauge power and ground wire...It is very IMPORTANT!! Don't go buy some cheap amp kit to hook up to a powerful amp like this!! Besides, this amp will mute the sub outputs to protect itself if the power requirements are not met. Also, it wouldn't hurt to add an a additional 4 guage ground wire from your battery to the chassis under the hood. Then you will be all set to enjoy...TRUST ME!!
This JL Audio HD amplifier has enough power to play most subwoofer combos/ impedances and sound great in the process... This amp also is a great choice when you want to keep it out of sight from people walking by your vehicle- its slim size allows you to mount it easily under most seats or in places where other amps could overheat... But do not let its size fool you, I've owned other amps that claimed to produce 750W RMS but this JL product does (at least) that very honestly... However if you are looking for raw, forceful power to drive power hungry subwoofers at 2 ohms, you should really look at the JL AUDIO 500/1v2 OR 1000/1v2 amplifiers Crutchfield sells online... They are more geared for prolonged or competiton use with SPL subs... This HD amp is a great choice however if sound quality is more up your alley, because its quality really IS hard to match. Also, you can never go wrong buying the Remote bass level knob... it's something you want to purchase with any large amp really- great convenience and control.
I have this pushing a 10w7 in a sealed box w/ a LP x-over point of 80hz at 12db/octave w/ the infrasonic filter off (suggested infrasonic filter setting in the w7 manual for a sealed box)
i know i've yet to fully tap into the potential of the hd750/10w7 combo but so far i'm very impressed, now i need to upgrade my front stage w/ either alpine typeX pro or polk sr6500.

Monoblock Full-Range Class-D Amplifier: The JL Audio HD750/1 is a very powerful and compact monoblock (single channel), full-range amplifier utilizing patented Single Cycle Control Class D technology. This technology delivers reference grade sonic performance while requiring far less current from the vehicle's electrical system than a conventional amplifier. Unlike most monoblock amplifiers, the HD750/1 is a full-range design so it can be used as a subwoofer amplifier or as a very powerful full-range or satellite amplifier using a second 750/1 to form a stereo pair.
Amplifier Rating: The JL Audio HD750/1 Class D monoblock, full-range amplifier is rated at 750 Watts RMS x 1-channel in 1.5 to 4-ohm at 20 to 20kHz with a signal-to-noise-ratio of 111 dB and a total harmonic distortion of 0.03% while receiving 11 to14.5 Volts.
High-Fidelity Class D (HD) With Single-Cycle Control: The JL Audio HD750/1 utilizes patented Single Cycle Control Class D technology for all channels. This technology delivers reference-grade sonic performance while requiring far less current from the vehicle's electrical systems than a conventional amplifier. Single Cycle Control is a unique approach to controlling a full-range Class D amplifier. By tracking the audio signal, comparing it to the real PWM waveform and then correcting it in each and every cycle (over 400,000 times per second), a multitude of distortion-causing mechanisms can be tightly controlled to enable pristine amplification. While there are certainly less expensive ways to make a full-range switching amplifier, no other Class D control system works faster or more accurately than Single Cycle Control.
Compact/Efficient Design: The JL Audio Class D amplifier on average is 13% smaller overall and over 1/2-inch shorter in height than most class AB amplifiers. The HD750/1 features outstanding overall efficiency (80% at 1/2 rated power) which allows for huge power from a tiny chassis and is easy on your vehicle's charging system, drawing 60% less current than a class AB design of equal power.
R.I.P.S. (Regulated, Intelligent Power Supply): R.I.P.S. stands for "Regulated, Intelligent Power Supply" and is a central feature of the JL Audio HD amplifier. The JL Audio R.I.P.S. System ensures consistent power delivery over a wide range of battery voltages and load impedances. This technology provides optimum power at any impedance level between 1.5 ohm to 4 ohm per channel and at any vehicle voltage level between 11V and 14.5V.
RealSink Heat Management With Rollback Protection: This JL Audio amplifier employs an advanced type of heat management, called RealSink. This features takes advantage of convection and radiation effects to remove heat from the amplifier circuitry. For optimum cool performance, the vertical heat sinks located at the sides of the amplifier should be exposed to as large a volume of air as possible. If a JL Audio HD amplifier should ever reach an unsafe temperature, its unique Advanced Rollback Protection circuit also adjusts power until the amplifier cools down, without ever shutting your music down.
Differential-Balanced Inputs: The JL Audio amplifier features differential-balanced input architecture to effectively control noise and ensure compatibility with a wide variety of source units, including many OEM systems. Without resorting to line output converters, you can directly connect most OEM source units to the JL Audio amplifier without creating any noise or compatibility issues. Unlike conventional single-ended inputs, the differential-balanced design does not connect one side of the audio signal to chassis ground. This eliminates any voltage sensitivity between one input terminal and ground and greatly reduces the incidence of alternator whine in a typical car audio installation. The JL Audio HD amplifier provides range switching on each of its inputs via the "Input Voltage" switch. This permits connection to a wide range of source voltages while retaining excellent sensitivity setting precision.
Note: You will need a speaker wire to RCA adaptor (136XDCLR2S, sold separately) to connect this amplifier to your headunit via speaker-level.
Protection Circuitry With Status Indicator Lights: There is a single multi-color LED on the control panel of the amplifier to indicate the amplifier's operating status.
Note: There is only one condition that will shut down the HD750/1 completely and that is if the battery voltage of your vehicle drops below 10 volts.
Mounting Options: The HD750/1 has two mounting option to choose from during installation.
Control Panel Cover: The HD750/1 features a Control Panel Security Cover which protects and hides the amplifier's controls. When installed, the cover ensures that the amplifier's settings are not accidentally changed while creating a clean aesthetic look for the amplifier and your installation. The control panel security cover is pre-installed at the factory and must be temporarily removed for access the amplifier's controls. The security cover is secured by a single 2.5mm hex-head screw.
Simplified Gain Setting: The amplifier's R.I.P.S. feature also allows for easy gain setup. Because the amplifier will always deliver the same amount of power within its operational range of impedances and supply voltages, the maximum, unclipped output is very predictable. This makes setting the gain level of the amplifier via the input sensitivity control very simple. All you need is Digital AC Voltmeter (142TK12V, sold separately) and a Test CD Disc (503CD104, sold separately) with a sine-wave test-tone recorded at 0 dB reference level in the frequency range to be amplified for that set of channels (50 Hz for subwoofer channels, 1 kHz for a midrange application).
Flexible Input Section And Active Crossover Network: The JL Audio HD amplifier provides a flexible input section and a comprehensive crossover network to fine tune your system effectively and accurately. The variable filter design employed in the JL Audio HD amplifier crossover sections allow you to seamlessly switch slopes, easily change filter frequencies and address what frequencies the preamp outputs will pass. The HD750/1 offers the following independent crossover adjustments behind a removal cover plate.
Output Polarity Control: Depending on the distance relationship of the mid-bass speakers and the subwoofers in your system, it can be desirable to reverse the polarity of the subwoofer system in order to produce a better transition between subwoofer and midbass speaker output. The amplifier's Output Polarity switch allows you to quickly perform this polarity inversion.
Power/Ground/Turn-On Plug: The amplifier features a Power/Ground/Turn-On plug which detaches from the amplifier to make connecting your power, ground, and remote turn-on lead wires more convenient. Once your connections are made the Power/Ground/Turn-On connector simply plugs into the amplifier.
Note: The Amplifier is not equipped with a fuse. An external 60-amp AFS, AGU, or MAXI fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If a wiring kit is used which includes a fuse with a value other than 60-amps, the original should be replaced with a 60-amp fuse
Speaker Output Plugs: The amplifier features one Speaker Output plug which detaches from the amplifier for easier speaker wire connection. Once your speaker wires are connected to these plugs, they simply push into the amplifier. The Speaker Output plug features four set-screw terminals for an easy parallel subwoofer connection. The HD750/1 amplifier's four set-screw speaker terminals found on the Speaker Output plug will accept 16 to 8 AWG speaker wire. A 2.0mm hex-wrench is supplied for making connections.
Preamp Inputs: The amplifier features one set of differential-balanced RCA jack inputs. The amplifier features a dedicated Input Sensitivity gain control for these inputs. These controls are designed to match the input sensitivity of the HD750/1 to the specific signal source that is feeding it. The amplifier's input level can be set to Low (200mV-2V RMS) when connecting the amplifier to a low-level preamp signal or set to High (800mV-8V RMS) when connecting the amplifier to a high-level speaker signal.
Preamp Outputs: The HD750/1 incorporates a pass-through preamp output sections, so that additional amplifiers can easily be connected to the same signal(s) feeding the HD750/1. These preamp output signals are buffered to prevent noise and are always preamp level, regardless of the level of signals feeding the HD750/1's inputs.
Remote Level Control: The amplifier features a standard telephone connector for adding an optional wired remote level control. With the addition of the optional wired Remote Level Control (136HDRLC, sold separately), you can control the volume of the HD750/1 form the front of your vehicle. This is useful for subwoofer level control. If desired, multiple HD amplifiers can be controlled from a single HD-RLC controller using a simple phone line splitter and multiple phone cables (all sold separately).
Note: All inputs and outputs are located on the rear side of the amplifier to make installation of the amplifier simple and neat.
