My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

Perfect with my JL W0v2. Installed in a Ford Escape and the bass is plentiful. Amp is small
enough to fit underneath most seats. 'The included bass knob makes quick adjustments
Some cons:
The adjustment dials weren't perfectly aligned but still work. Wish the inputs were signal
sensing. And why not Class D? Nonetheless, good value & quality.

I'm using speaker level inputs and the amp sounds good. With an aftermarket reciever,
this amp will sound great!

came as a package deal

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This amp came as a package deal with a 10"JL woofer They are both on the low end of price, the lowest end of JL I believe. When I first Put the sealed box together wired the amp and installed it all in my F-150 club cab I was ticked. It sounded as if I did nothing. I first thought the amp was not on, it was. I checked to see if the wires came off the speakers, they didn't. Then I looked at all the knobs they came from the factory all the way down. I turned up all three and it came to life. I listen to all types of music and anything I played sounded so much better. My Kenwood goes up to 30 or 35 but I highest setting I go is 26 and it pushes my woofer quite well. Now I am chasing some rattles in my cabin. You cant get a positive without a negative. The amp stays extremely cool I was expecting it to get hot but it's not. I do recommend it to anyone the price is good and JL is a good brand.

Before I installed the amp and sub. I put in Boston Acoustics SC85 5x7 front and rear with a JVC 100watt amp its sound so much better with the sub hooked up but the amp gets hot this is my guess why I got it free with the pair of speakers I got. I gave this four stars because this is all I have used to me it is a great package for the money you cant beat it.

Very Nice

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose this amp based on research. I am running a single JL 10W1v2 with this amp in a Dodge RAM. I have limited space and the box I have the sub mounted in has .69 CuFt of air space. All I can say is that this combo sounds better than I could have expected. The single 10" sub hits hard and this amp has plenty of power to drive it. I felt the amp after a 30 min drive with the volume as loud as I can comfortably stand it and it was barely warm. I am 100% satisfied with this amp's ability to push my sub.

I am in my 30's so I am not looking for competition sound levels but I can say that this combo does shake my mirrors. The sub I am using is 4 Ohms so the amp runs at 175 watts. This was the recommended safe wattage listed by JL so I didn't see the need to get anything more powerful.

I am also running an Alpine CDA-105 for a head unit.

Mono Subwoofer Amplifier: The JL Audio J2 250.1 is a class A/B monoblock subwoofer amplifier rated at 175 watts RMS x 1 into a 4Ω load, 210 watts RMS x 1 into a 3Ω load, and 250 watts RMS x 1 into a 2Ω load.

Status Indicator Lights: There are two lights on the left side of the amplifier:

  • Power: green LED indicates the amplifier is turned on and operating normally
  • Protect: red LED indicates the amplifier has exceeded its safe operating temperature or detected a short in the speaker outputs

Active Crossover: The low-pass crossover is continuously variable from 60 Hz to 240 Hz and cannot be bypassed. The crossover slope is 12 dB/octave.

Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit is adjustable from 0 to +9 dB. The boost frequency is fixed at 45 Hz.

Remote Level Control: The 14' cable attached to the included Remote Level Control plugs into the 3.5mm jack on the left side of the amp. When the module is connected, you can control the subwoofer volume from the driver's seat. The remote is designed to mount under the dash and measures:

  • Width: 2.513"
  • Height: 1.026"
  • Depth: 1.656" (2.325" including cable and knob)

Power and Ground: The Power and Ground connections accept 4 to 8 gauge wire; JL Audio recommends 8 gauge as the minimum size. The set-screw terminals are tightened/loosened using the included 3mm Allen wrench.

Remote Turn-On: The remote terminal will accept 10 to 18 gauge wire. The set-screw terminal is tightened/loosened using the included 2mm Allen wrench.

Speaker Outputs: The two speaker terminals are internally wired in parallel for easy connection of two subwoofers (2Ω minimum when using one sub, 4Ω minimum when using two subs). The set-screw terminals are tightened/loosened using the included 2.5mm Allen wrench and will accept 8 to 16 gauge speaker wire.

Preamp Inputs: The amplifier features one set of RCA line level inputs. The input sensitivity is adjustable from 200mV to 4V RMS.

Note: When using a single RCA input, JL Audio recommends using a Y adapter to feed a signal to both RCA jacks.

Speaker Inputs: When connecting the amp to a head unit without line level outputs, use the included speaker level input harness. In this case the input sensitivity is adjustable from 630mV to 20.5V RMS.

Preamp Outputs: There is a pair of preamp outputs so you can send audio to another amplifier in your system. The preamp output is not affected by the crossover or bass boost circuits.
